2:01Open big a tree to turn on me. No, I never thought the leper's would eat my face. I love that song. I've been listening to that. Was that COVID? What did you come up with this? Yeah. I first wrote the song in 2023. It's based on a viral tweet by a writer by the name of Adrian Bought from 2015. So it's been in the zeitgeist for a very long time. But there was a story about a black Republican who got jumped at a Trump rally. Oh, yes. I remember.

3:01And I was like, I need to write a song about this. And I wrote the song. It went super viral. And now I've done it a bajillion times with a choir with a mariachi band. I just did it in Creole with a comedian, Jesse Wu. And it's really taken on a life of its own. We hear it in Creole. How does that go? I'm from Louisiana. I cannot sing it. I brought in reinforcements since I knew she could speak Creole. There was a Haitian restaurant owner in South Florida who we dedicated that one too. So by the way, you are gorgeous. So beautiful. So wonderful. You are a beautiful lady. So let's talk about that because it is true. The leopard will always eat your face. And some of these young folks don't know what that means. And I'm not going to talk about some people I know because they may be on my team. But what does that mean? I said, you cozy up to something like a leopard or a tiger or some wild animal thinking that

4:02if you're nice to them, that they aren't going to eat your face. And eventually they always do. Eventually the racists are going to eat your face. Yeah. Aina picked me only works for so long. Go on. Oh, I was going to say being a pick me only works for so long. And ultimately trying to align yourself with bigots eventually goes south. You know, the very classic poem they came for. Then suddenly they came for me. Like this is a tale as old as time. And it's unfortunate that the lesson has to be learned. But I'm thankful that the song resonates with people and can give them a little smile in the midst of like some terrible stuff happening. Every time there's some news about someone like maybe a Brandon Tatum Tater. I call it. Or Am I low? Am I all you anopolis? It never fails and they get upset like if he was upset with somebody, somebody wouldn't come on his show or I forget him and.

5:03Well, and Brandon, Brandon Tatum was upset because I call it Tater. Let's call it Tater. Tater. I remember he was he was boo-hoo and over Charlie Kirk and then they didn't even invite him to the memorial. That's it. And it's like, sir, I'm not surprised. They didn't invite you. They don't like us, including you. Do you mean he don't like us? Is that what you're saying? I'm saying that the they don't like us, they don't like us, including him. Yes, yeah. The turning point crew. Yeah. And I wonder if the lesson is never really ever learned from these folks. No. And what's unfortunate is when they do learn the lessons, suddenly they want sympathy and they want to be welcomed with open arms. And I think ultimately the lesson of the Leopard's meme and the reason that I have the lyrics we bonded over Brigitry, but they weren't supposed to turn on me, is the idea that you

6:04were okay with their bigotry when it was directed at other people. And it's you can't teach people empathy, but ultimately we should care about the greater good of all folks even when it doesn't directly impact us. The Leopard-E Tim Scott's face. Oh, Tim, yeah, didn't he lose his reelection? No, no, no. He never got any appointment or any balance Trump didn't pick him for Vice President any of that. He chose JD Van, someone who called, by the way, who called Trump a version of Hitler, not like, and Nazi. Yes. Well, and JD Van's another one, right? Like his wife is Indian, he has biracial children. And his supporters have said a number of hateful things about his wife and his children, which I don't believe is right. But it is supremely ironic that a man who campaigns on racist agendas demonizing immigrants and undocumented immigrants as well, is married to a person of color.

7:06And his family has been subjected to those same racist insults, but he doesn't seem to care. And honestly, my heart goes out to his children because I can't imagine what it's like to have a parent of that caliber. Well, I find that the iteration that I find the newest are Indian Americans. Indian Americans who cozy up or change their names so that they can sound wider. Oh, we have a few of those. Yeah, all of a sudden realize like, no, like Vivek Wama Swami when Ann culture was like, no, I cannot vote for you because you're Indian. Oh, or when he got kicked out of Doge immediately. He helped to set it up and then they said, okay, goodbye, Indian man. Yeah, I mean, look, unfortunately, anti-blackness is a global phenomenon. And there are many people of color who think that they are going to be the model minority and that just by hating on black people or hating on queer people or hating on trans people, that it somehow ingratiates them to white supremacists.

8:09And ultimately, you know why? You never going to be white. And as soon as they don't need you anymore as a useful idiot, they will dispose of you. Who is number one at the top of the leopard thing? Who's your number? Oh, what are you going to be a top five? You know what, you're top five. How about you top five? I mean, I'm going to say Herman Cain. I think is probably like the biggest, the biggest one. You know, I'm also put there, you know, we had Diamond and Silk, plastic and zirconia. I don't know which one, you know, we lost, but we did lose one of them. And they, you know, the other sister came out and said that the Trump administration owed them money. And again, they were useful idiots until they were then disposed of. I would say Amarosa is another one. You know, she turned around and was like, Trump was racist. Yeah, girl, we knew. And you still worked for him. I don't, why are you telling us about it now? And then most recently, I'm going to say Milo.

9:10I think that he's a, I got so many requests for that one. I did like a dance remix for that one. And, you know, the thing about that one that is so troubling is there are so many black and brown people sitting in detention centers right now. Citizens of the US, people who were here legally on asylum, people who were attempting to get their legal status in order. And Milo was in detention for one day. And they sent his ass home and he wants us to feel bad for him. And I absolutely do not. You read my mind because I was thinking that the, the newest version is, the newest member of the leopard eating someone's face is Milo. Yeah. And I saw him on another magasupport. Yeah, that supporting streaming host show. Yes. And he was crying about the brutality of it, the inhumanity of it.

10:13The 24 hours that you spent and got a plane ticket home while other people get sent to places they've never been to. Before or there without food and water and places to go to the bathroom. I mean, I have no sympathy for him. Well, he said he was talking about his mental health and just I was like, did you not, what about all the people you see? On the videos. And that I've seen close up from covering it. A people there and also seen close up for them arresting me, right? For no reason. Yes. He did not see that the people's due process rights being violated dragged across the snow shot by. Yes. He didn't see the inhumanity and the brutality of that and all of a sudden when he was on. He chaired it on and he has regularly talked about, you know, pushing this racist conspiracy theory, the race, the replacement theory that white people are being replaced by people of color.

11:13And he has championed ICE and he has said that people need to be rounded up and deported if they're not here legally. And so again, you're absolutely right. He made it all about himself. He's not the first person to be deported. And by comparison, he got a very easy ticket home when most people, especially black and brown people, do not get treated with the same care. Yeah. I was I was like all of these people who say this. I had someone on the other day, at least he's trying who left the MAGA movement. He started a, you know, leaving MAGA's movement. And I said to him, it wasn't, you know, it wasn't the John McCain. It's not a war hero that Mexicans are rapists that, you know, making fun of a New York Times reporter. It wasn't grab him by it was in grab him by the private parts by the private parts are someone had blood coming out of her. Wherever, like that wasn't the thing that got you to like you went through all of this and now you suddenly realized that that's a problem.

12:19Mine. He said he he explained to me. And I don't think he he got it, but in a roundabout way, I had to keep asking him the same question, you know, numerous times. And he said, I felt that in my country that I was afraid of being treated as a second class citizen in my country. And I said, there it is. Right. It was it was the racism. Yes, of course, always, always. And I will say, Don, that's a big part of why whenever people say to me, like, all the leopard song is unproductive. And we need to embrace people who realize for me, I'm like, once you show me who you are, I believe you. And I'm not going to give you a cookie for doing the bare minimum and acknowledging what we've been seeing happening in front of us for over a decade. Right. Like we have seen some horrific things and displays of racism and sexism and, you know, homophobia and transphobia and Islamophobia. The phobia is from here to Timbuktu.

13:20And if you only care because it affects you, you are not someone I want to be in community with. I'm never going to feel safe around you. And I don't think it means that you are automatically. I'm glad to hear that this guy is potentially doing work to help deprogram Maga, but I need to see receipts. You know, just saying, just saying like Trump is bad is really not enough for me. Who are you voting for? Who are you getting registered to vote? Who are you helping to deprogram? Where are you donating your time and your funds to help repair the harm that you caused? Yeah. I agree with you 100%. I want to see the receipts and I told him to keep in touch. Let's see what you do. Great. Because go ahead. Oh, I was going to just say like that's something I really appreciate about you, Don. I think you do a really great job of holding space for people that you disagree with and starting a conversation with them that lets them come to the table. I can't do that work. So thenfully you do that work because me, I'm not going to be as kind,

14:23but I think that you're doing really brilliant work and that's why I wanted to be on the show so bad. God, it's hard. Well, yeah, you want to be honest. I was actually honored that you wanted to be on the show. I had no idea. Someone reached out and said, did you see Francesca wants to be on the show and I said, no, I didn't. Oh, yeah. We made it because I played your song before because you know, we were late. You know, we knew. Oh, my God. Yeah, no, I'm a long time fan and I'm in this new phase of life where I'm asking for things that I want. And I went multiple routes. We have it. We share agents. I don't know if you know that, but we're at the same agency. And so I emailed some people. I was sent to DMs. I said, let me just get on the reds and say, who knows Don? I'm trying to get on the show. Thank you. I'm really, really honored. I do think one thing that I think you missed. And I say, but so number one is Milo, but my number two would have been the Cubans in Florida. I will vote for Donald Trump.

15:24Oh, my God. I will vote for Donald Trump. Donald Trump. As a Floridian, that one really hurts me. It really, really does, but there are a number of Cubans who, you know, while they are white Cubans, you're not white enough. You're not white enough. And again, it is heartbreaking, especially like that. Oh, you can't tell them that. Oh, yeah. Well, you can't tell them that. No, you can't. But it's the truth. That's like some of the Dominicans. I know why. I'm doing the Dominican. I know Dominican. I know black. I know black. I know black. I know black. I'm Dominican. I know black. I know black. I'm Cuban. OK. Right. Right. Right. And again, it is unfortunate that it takes it happening to them in order to care. And my hope is that people will wake up before it's too late, because ultimately, we do need people to mobilize and work together. But I'm also of the mind, especially as a marginalized person, as a black queer woman.

16:27It's not my job to educate my oppressors. It's not my job to hold their hands. If they want to do that work, there's tons of resources available. And I encourage them to do it. The new leopard's rendition. Look, you're having, this has political consequences. And a good or bad for people depending on what side you're on. There's a new leopard's rendition that sparked the Maga-Cattle Rancher's angle. Yes. So what is that? Where did that come from? And what is that doing? Oh, I mean, so many, I get tagged all of the time. I often say that brand is very strong. There were a number of cattle ranchers on TikTok really begging the general public to shop from them directly, as Donald Trump was removing some of the tariffs on beef imports. And because we are seeing the skyrocketing prices around the country, and a lot of these farmers were taking to TikTok to say,

17:28common shop from us directly. And when the audience said, well, who did you vote for? Suddenly, it was, it doesn't matter who I voted for. We're all in this together high school musical six. Why would you blame this on me because of who I voted for? I don't care if you're black or purple. Yeah, yeah, exactly. It turns into, now let's combayah again, leopards, plain and simple, that they are seeing the consequences of their vote, and they don't want to be held accountable. And ultimately, we are all going to suffer. But when it comes to the song, it's like a small moment of relief, where it's like, oh, now y'all are getting it. And the idea that y'all were making TikToks and asking us for help, talk to your man. Talk to the man, y'all voted for. I'm with you on that one. I am with you. And because it does matter who you voted for, that's a person who put you in this position. And if you put you in this position, you're not whining. You didn't think about the other people that he put into positions

18:31before it happened to you. I'm with you 100% on that. I'm also with you on this, which is one reason as well, that I have you come on. I'm wondering, like, all the shows and people that you have been profiled on and whatever, it says, you said that you've been, you've had coverage on Anderson Cooper on MTV's, the code it on. And I'm like, why does she want on the nightly news with Larry Wilmer? I'm like, why does she want to come on this little show? You know, here's the thing. Here's a truth, Don. I have been really inspired by your pivot to social media. I've been a content creator for 20 years now. I started making YouTube videos in 2006. I now work as a social strategist. I work as a creative director at an agency. The internet can be a really powerful place for all of its negativity and seeing the way that you've been treated over the course of your career, just for speaking truth to power. And how you've made this turn to social media. It's been very inspiring. You did such great work during the, you know,

19:32interviewing people ahead of the election. Some really groundbreaking stuff. And, you know, I think it's really inspiring and really cool. And in my ethos, so seeing you support my song and my content, really made me feel seen and appreciated. And I wanted a chance to be able to tell you face to screen that I appreciate your work. Oh, thank you. That means the world to me. Don't make me cry now. I'll cry if you look at me. You'll be writing a song about the leverage eating my tears. But also the reason that I was, the question I was getting to is that you wanted to talk about social media and using the internet, which you just did a little bit for real conversations around identity and politics heading into the midterms. Is that your next mission? One thousand percent. I mean, I've always been somebody that has talked about the ways that we can have important conversations via the internet. I created a show for MTV called MTV Decoded. Ahead of every election, I always try to make sure to get people registered to vote and encourage people to talk to their friends,

20:34their families, their neighbors. And especially as we're going into this current midterm election, there is a lot at stake. And I think we are really seeing an incredible mobilization around the DSA candidates. Mom Donnie has really activated a lot of young people in a way. We haven't seen a long time. And it's really exciting. And I want to do what I can with my platform to encourage people to keep that energy going to not get complacent. We've had those really great wins during the primaries, but we haven't crossed the finish line. And I want us to go all the way. Hey, man, sister. I'm with you. I'm with you, Chesa-Kalee. Oh my god. That's your big mission. This is still very surreal, honestly, that I'm talking to you. I think I'm doing a great job of playing it cool, but I'm a little outside my body right now. Oh, stop it.
