2:08a fun night ahead. You got the life, though. You're in Vegas. You're going to berries for dinner. You're signing autographs, kissing babies. So, man, you got it made. You've certainly got the life going here, but excited to talk some college hoops, some baseball for the first time on this show. Yeah. You know, at a very long time. So, an action-packed evening should be a lot of fun. It was weird today. Just waiting for these games to start. They always say it was Sunday night football, which is nonsense. Waiting all day for Sunday night. Nobody's waiting all day for Sunday football. We have plenty of football to watch on Sunday night, but this is one where you wake up and we're just used to games on it, new it, a bunch of games on, you know, regular season, and especially conference tournaments, NCAA tournaments. You got games on all the time. So, to wake up and, you know, new and Eastern, nothing on. You got a long wait till 6, 10 Eastern, but works out pretty well for our show. We get both these games in our window here starting with a battle in the big 10. So, we'll see here how it goes. And I'm sure you've got thoughts on these games as I do as well. Absolutely. And all these games are just getting in the way while we're out here at the desert. Yeah, we got to pay the pipe where we got to, we got to hustle a little bit here in Las Vegas.

3:12As we're looking at the game that's about to start at about seven minutes here, Will. It is Illinois and Iowa enough to chat about Illinois's defense, not being strong enough to, by the Ken Palm numbers to win this region in the South. They got by Houston the other night. And Houston could not score at all on this team was that more Illinois was that more Houston. We'll talk about that current betting line here at circus sports. It is Illinois is six and a half point favorite in this one. And the total 138 to half. We're seeing a late action coming in here on Illinois. Some places might be jumping up to seven depending on where you shop. Your thoughts on this one is Iowa, the Cinderella still kind of streaking for Iowa in this one against Illinois. Yeah, I would say if you like Iowa, you should be able to get the seven. If you like Illinois, you should be able to lay six and a half. And those are key numbers seven team might not foul. And six they might things like that. That third possession seven's a key number basketball,

4:13not just in football. I like Iowa. We're getting to the point of the season where there's only a handful of games. There's a lot of eyeballs on these numbers. There's a lot of attention. There's just we have we know a lot about these teams. This is not the middle of the December. And it's fairfield versus Merrimack. And we don't really know how good either teams are. And you can get a line that's off by a couple points. If you're sharpened up, if you're savvy enough and pay attention to the smart leagues, this is this is almost like the NFL where there's just eyes on these teams and these games and they're going to be about where they should be. That being said, I like Iowa here. I took the points. I think that, you know, give me that coach who's outstanding McCollum, a slow paced slow tempo team that can really grind the game to a half court style. And I hopefully shoot enough to keep them in it. Illinois's got some advantages. Illinois's got a lot of size, a lot of skill. They can shoot. They're big. I mean, they're really, really good as we saw the other night. They just demolished Houston and so much for home court advantage. They buried Houston in their own backyard, a couple miles from campus.

5:15But I'm banking on a close game here. They did play in the regular season. Illinois won the game. Sturts was not effective. We'll see how much of that carries over to today. So I do think Illinois probably wins the game. I just you're going to give me three possessions here with McCollum in this Iowa and their style. I'm going to be inclined to take it. I would imagine you have the same feeling here as an underdog better yourself. You are absolutely right. And we do see now here at the Circa. It has flicked over. Illinois is officially a seven point favorite here at Circa. I 130 at it. 138.5 is your total. And we saw this the other night with Iowa when they played another big 10 team Nebraska. How come Nebraska was only a two and a half point favorite to open? How come they got down to a one and a half point favorite by the time we got to game time. That was kind of telling right there. You see the four seed Nebraska. How come they were only a very short favorite over a conference foe. But now Illinois being like you said, a seven point favorite now. That matters here. So yeah, this is a spot where if you're going to give me the seven, I will take Iowa. But Illinois is far superior in terms of the numbers here. If you were looking

6:21to play this on the money line, you can see that it minus 350 for Illinois plus 290 for Iowa. If you were looking to parlay, is this Illinois money line something you would include in parlay, money line parlay today, especially with Arizona coming up later. I can certainly see the attraction for people to do that. Just say, you know what, there's two games. I want action on both of them. I'll just parlay the money line favorites. I don't have it in front of me, but I would imagine that that comes out to, let's see, a seven point favorite with what we have later with that's probably going to be, you know, around the same thing here when you're looking at like a five and a point, you're probably looking at like minus 110 minus 120, pretty fair proposition. So people are going to do that. I don't, I try to stay away from that stuff just because you know what, if you like them to win, just take them. You can trick yourself into that. We're now you got to win multiple bets, things like that. So I think Illinois wins the game, but I'm not going to money line parlay route, but I would imagine it's a good point you bring up. I would imagine it's popular. All these favorites have pretty much won in this tournament.

7:23You know, these are standalone games. It seems so so simple, so easy. All they have to do is the favorites win, and I cash my ticket, which it's been a good approach in this tournament at least. So I can understand that people wanting to do that, but I will just be taking the points with Iowa and rooting for a close game here. You mean you weren't one of those touts that was bragging over that 16 leg money line parlay. We saw Friday of the first round. Yeah, we saw those all over the place, 16 leg money lines. That was easy, wasn't it? Well, that was easy money. By the way, I punched that up Illinois, Arizona. It is minus 125 is your that's that's your if you want to lay the minus 125 with that money line parlay with Illinois and Arizona. That's the price you have to pay here. This one. Are you looking at the total here? Open 138.5. We've seen the public way on that we see 80 plus percent of money and tickets on the over here, but this total has not budget from 138 to half. I love the unders these tournaments. Would you be looking to play an under in this one? It would be under a pass, and it's not even about the Xs and O's. It's to me,

8:26it's about and you know, you talk to these players, former players, coaches, and it's a little counter intuitive. This is the pressure game. It's almost like the Super Bowl where that always comes out, slow starting, slow scoring. There's some nerves. There's a feeling out process. I think for the elite eight, that is in effect as much as anything. Now, of course, once you get to the final four, yeah, you want to make the championship game and you want to win the championship, obviously, but this is the game where there's the pressure of man. This is a trip to the final four. Once you get to the final four, I'm not saying there's no pressure, but I mean, you know how it goes, Brad, these coaches, when they retire, when they pass away, how many final fours you make, that goes on your grave. That is, you know, X and X, so and so coach retires. He made two final fours, so and so coach passed away. He made three final fours. Getting to the final four for these players, these coaches is huge. It's a big stepping stone. And I think for that reason, maybe a little nervous early, maybe you just, you know, squeeze the ball a little tight, slower pace, all of those things that lend itself to big game unders. I would look towards an under here, but not actually playing it, but it would certainly be under a pass for me.

9:30I play the dog. I'm playing the under. It is a non chalky, but chalkerson kind of gave for me. It's kind of what the scenario you were talking about. It's like a conference championship game in the NFL. They know you they don't say how many times you got to a conference championship game. How many times did you win your conference and make a Super Bowl? That's kind of what they talk about there for that one. So are there anything else? Are there any props? Is there anything else you're looking to play at? You're, you're definitely taking Iowa. I'm taking Iowa. I am also playing the under anything else you're looking at at this game. Before we get the tip off here, just a couple minutes. No, I think we covered it. And we are a couple minutes from tip. I'll ask you, do you give Iowa what kind of chance you give Iowa actually win the game? Boy, you sit there. We saw the plus two 90 on the money line here in this one. I think they have a better chance. The conference, both these teams being in the big 10. I think it takes, it gives Iowa just a little bit of advantage in this shot because there's the old edits. Well, you can't beat a team two three four times on a regular season. I've heard that all my life. It's the numbers don't wear that out at all. But the fact that you've seen Iowa take down Nebraska

10:34earlier this week. And now they get Illinois a team that they played earlier this year. Yeah, you do have a familiarity and it does help the underdog when you have that familiarity. So yeah, we've got a big show that gave us about the tip off as we're watching here. 14:52is week two. Look at the betting lines. Because week one, we've seen these games. And now we have something called overreaction theater. Because some people may be re-overreacting to very small sample sizes. But watching this basketball game right now, it is Iowa 12. Illinois 2 and we're only four and a half minutes in this game. Should we just pack it up now and say, let's just go cash or tickets and have a stake down at Barry's on Derek Stevens with this 12-2 margin. Because some people are saying the live betting line here. Illinois is still a one and a half point favorite total 139 and a half. What do we do here, Will? It's already a blowout. Yeah, what a start here for Iowa. A 10-point lead. They are shooting the ball very well. They're causing some turnovers, getting stops. When it was six, nothing I heard Kevin Harlan who was doing the game here for TBS say this is the largest tournament deficit for Illinois so far in this tournament. So a good start for Iowa. Obviously, it's early. You don't want to panic too

15:54much. But I mean, the market, I don't know if it's overreacting, but the market certainly has to react when you got a seven-point dog having a 10-point lead. Boy, if you took those points, you're in good shape early. Obviously, all the caveats of a long time, long way to go, a lot of game left, things happen, all of that. But certainly you're on the right side of it now if you have the dog. So we'll see here an important stretch for Illinois. Don't let this get to 15-18. What do we see in big comebacks? Michigan State was down. I think it was a 25-6-19-point yesterday and they tied the game that I think they eventually took the lead and then Yukon ends up winning it. So it's not quite as crazy as the NBA where you just get some wild swings and you basically just don't have to worry about it till the final five minutes. But a great start for Iowa. Let me ask you, is there anything you would bet right now? Would you jump in on Illinois and try to middle this or will you just say, you know what, I got a pretty good hand here with Iowa getting the points. I'll just let it ride for now. Oh, absolutely. You're getting value with Illinois right now if you're so inclined. But it's the kind of thing like you're at the Blackjack table. You got a 20. The dealer has a three

16:55right now. I don't know if I want to split my 20, but you don't have a 20 right now. We're still very early. This is only the first media time out and we're four and a half minutes in 12-2 Iowa. Our producer John Lund is saying, this was the easiest first to 10 bet in tournament history. About that, but it was close. Have you been playing first of 10s because I heard the roar back here when we had the first of 10s. A lot of dogs have been winning the first of 10s despite them cashing at the end of these games. Have you, have you, have you ever been so tempted by especially later in the tournament? Because I know a lot of people early love to play those first of 10s. I mean, I'll play him occasionally, but nothing, nothing seriously. You know, I heard the crack man Bill Crackenberger was on a numbers game with with gilags and are on Thursday. It's always a great, great hour, great second. He was talking about how he played a bunch of him. He was, I guess, I forget how it came about, but he was in the book and I think and everyone was cheering for the dog. Everyone was cheering for the dog and he realized, all right, everyone's playing the dog here. Maybe there's some value on the favorites. He talked to a couple of you know, guys that run sports books that said everyone plays the dogs. Everyone wants the plus price.

17:59So he found a lot of value on the favorites and he did really well. I think he won his first seven or eight and then the next day water finds its level and eventually, you know, these things kind of even out. So if you just think there's an angle, I'm just going to play all the dogs that I'm going to win or I'm going to play all the favorites. I'm going to win. These books are not that dumb. You know, eventually this stuff kind of evens out, but they're fun. They're instant gratification, especially if you're getting the plus price. I definitely see the appeal of them. The books are not that dumb. That's one of the best things I think any of us ever I've ever said on this show will. By the way, if you're looking to get futures right now, Illinois plus eight, 50 to win this, they were plus seven, 50 before this gave started. I checked it out. Iowa, they were 50 to one. Now they're 41. By the way, I was talking to Polly Howard yesterday. He was we're building about around here. He said that Iowa was a 52 to one shot just to make the final four before the state that this started. So yeah, some crazy closing line value. If you've had Iowa because they were they were a toss up in the first round against Clemson.

19:01Yeah, and that's one. I mean, I can't imagine who would have that, but I'm sure somebody out there had, whether you're an Iowa fan or a lumber, you just had a feeling and you can always say, well, it pays better to go money line, which you know, maybe it does, but people don't always do that. But if you had that 52 to one for them to make the final four, well, you're sitting right there where the game's basically a toss up now and you can just name your profit. You're in a hell of a position right now is Illinois. It looks like Mrs. A free throw. So we come out of the break. Here 1521 left in the first half. Davis at the line. He misses the first here. We'll see if he makes the second, but a great start for Iowa as the second free throw is good 12 to three. And we'll see here if Iowa, I mean, you figure they're going to cool off at some point, but a nine point lead. It's not insurmountable by any stretch, but it's not nothing either. You got to feel good about this start here with the dog. When Iowa took down Florida last week, was that something that you said, hmm, maybe I could get some value on this team just to make the final four because I would like to go back now because I don't have access to this at the moment to see

20:02where you could have gotten value just to make the final four, but would have still just like you said, there would have been no takers then either for the Iowa to make the final four when they had to go through either Nebraska and the winner of Houston, Illinois, which they're doing today, but Illinois now with a block shot. They're coming back the other way as we're about 515 into this game. Now live betting line here, little over five minutes in. It's a 12 to three score. Illinois creeping back up now to a three and a half point favorite total 138 and a half, as we're watching these line, trickle with every possession here. You're already getting a little bit extra value on Illinois than you had when we had the break of the action where they're down to a two and a half point favorite here. As we're watching a pile up, it looks like Illinois will keep the ball. So are there anything you're seeing because Iowa going to they do not have the height advantage on Illinois. That is a definite fact. If you look at just the size of these guys, they didn't have the Iowa has not had the advantage all the tournament log in search of height. Have you seen anything in this game that kind of dictates that?

21:02Yeah, and a lot of these guys came from D2 with McComb. A lot of them came from Drake. So there is some roster continuity with that similar to the, you know, the Signetti James Madison, Indiana crossover transfer where all right, there may be not the most talented guys in terms of blue chip five star guys, but there's, you know, continuity. There's familiar. There's the familiarity. There's the teamwork aspect of, you know, just bringing guys from one program to the next, but it looks like Illinois just doesn't look comfortable yet on offense. So Iowa playing very tight defense. It doesn't look like, you know, it's not like Illinois and we're doing the show and watching at the same time, but it doesn't look like, you know, Illinois is missing a bunch of easy looks or they're wide open. Everything looks pretty contested here as they do get an offensive rebound. You don't want too much of that if you're Iowa, you when you're the underdog and when you're anybody, but especially the underdog can't afford too many second chance points, second chance opportunities as they're going to get now a third opportunity here is they continue to get offensive rebound after offensive rebound and then finally stick one in and that's one that's a concern for Iowa. Yeah, you played good enough defense to get a miss shot couldn't get the rebound. You get another

22:05miss shot and another rebound eventually they're going to stick it in. So three offensive rebounds already for for Illinois two on that possession as Illinois two of eight from the field here. So they lead cut to seven here for the Hawkeyes and you break we brought up the high advantage right before that little episode with the with the rebound to the putbacks for Illinois and Illinois gets an and one here now it looks like. So now this score is 12 to seven with Illinois going to the line live betting line here Illinois now back up to a four and a half make that a five and a half point favorite one thirty nine and a half your total says here in the live the live streams it is 12 to nine here on the betting apps. Did you maybe factor in this game where it was Illinois 75 Iowa 69 back in January 11th was that any kind of thing that maybe you factored into head to capping this game because I don't think I had to took that into consideration at all to be honest with you. Looked at it went back and read some of the game reviews and that's you know that's the middle of NFL playoffs maybe people aren't paying as attention as

23:07much as boy that was uh you mentioned it and and one and it's bad enough you found sentence aligned but they missed a free throw and give up another second chance opportunity. So that's four points off of offensive rebound just in the last couple trips. So what was just uh what was what a nine ten point lead just moment to go now we're basically back to an even game a nice little surge from Illinois off of a bunch of offensive rebounds and that lead has been all but wiped away here for the Hawkeyes they just couldn't clean up the glass and that is something if you have the dog that's a concern as uh a three here rims out for uh for for Iowa I looked at it starts didn't play well I know Boswell guarded him I read some of the stories and uh there was rumors that there was a flu going through Iowa and some of the guys were eliminated in terms of the minute so I looked at it I didn't really I mean it's one game a few months ago I didn't put too much stock into it but it is something yeah you have to look at just in terms of like a data point and matchups things like that they just flashed the uh align I or seven seven oh run in the last three minutes uh just a little

24:09over three minutes here as uh Illinois now going to the line it is now twelve ten in Illinois back up to basically where they were pregame six and a half point favorite one thirty nine and a half total rebound so far in this game Illinois seven Iowa three so that should tell you a little something right now about those putbacks and even in the previous game when they played back in January Illinois won the rebounding battle thirty eight thirty one so that's nothing we've seen so far can tell us that Illinois has any kind of hope to keep up with Illinois on the boards here will yeah major concern here I mean it's a that's one thing you just can't afford to do you're good enough on defense to get a miss you gotta end the possession with a rebound because you're really it's part of the defense it doesn't it's not a stop until you get the board and if you're going to give this team who's very good very skilled on offense second third opportunities consistently uh it's it's not going to go well here so I always got to figure out a way to clean up the glass Iowa hits a three it is now fifteen eleven hot guys just under twelve minutes to go here in this one Illinois now

26:16and what you would be doing live betting style in this one yeah I got Iowa plus seven so don't feel the need to double down and take the points don't feel the need to go for a middle or anything I'd still probably take it if I had to bet it as Illinois kind of an unforced turnover there they just throw the ball out of bounds wasn't really contested just a bad pass a sloppy pass there so Iowa has survived the storm a little bit a quick nine point lead Illinois wiped it out within the blink of an eye but they've hit some tough shots Iowa has here to kind of extend the lead he had contested three another two on the other end the one concern a couple concerns for Iowa we mentioned the offensive rebounding and how Illinois has gotten second chance opportunities to get on the board here a bunch of times the other one would be is Iowa shoots another three and they drain it and it's back up to a seven point lead Brad I believe this is like four of six from three for Iowa from three which is hard to sustain meanwhile Illinois is 0 for three so boy you got one team shooting four of six 66 percent 67 percent from three the other team is 0 for three

27:21you're up seven so that's good but you got to figure at some point there if you're looking for a reason to bid Illinois that three point variance eventually you would think in theory swings back the other way and Illinois starts to make some and Iowa starts to miss them that's absolutely 100 percent good point but will I will be too far up by then for it to even to make a difference in the game because if they keep shooting like this for just a few minutes longer they're already up seven on a in a game we see Illinois now score so it's a five point game now we're under the 10 minute mark here in the first half five point margin Illinois three and a half point favorite now 141 and a half is your total 20 to 15 your current score here so yeah you talked about the three point shooting you were right four of six four Iowa and 0 for three for Illinois in this one as we're under the 10 minute mark now in this one is there anything maybe with this Illinois defense letting Iowa score all these points here because that's the one thing that we that kept a lot of people like you and me from taking Illinois to with this national championship yeah great offense
