Lindsay Clancy’s Trial Turned Into a Judgment of Who Else?

Look past the verdict watch and the Lindsay Clancy case has become something much stranger.

We are judging the jurors for failing to agree. We are judging Patrick Clancy for how he grieves, where he lives, whom he married and why he forgave Lindsay. And we are judging prosecutors for pursuing a first-degree murder case that Kevin Reddington says never included a plea offer.

Tony Brueski takes all of it apart.

The jury heard psychiatric professionals reach fundamentally different conclusions about Clancy’s criminal responsibility. Patrick became a target of unsupported theories despite no public evidence implicating him. And the justice system now faces the difference between punishment, treatment and protection.

Three children are dead. Nothing about that changes.

But if every person surrounding the tragedy must also satisfy an angry audience, we may be asking the wrong people to prove themselves.
