Lets do the hard thing

About this episode

Send us Fan Mail

For my final Marketing Espresso episode of 2026, I’m looking beyond marketing trends and tactics and coming back to something much more important: the foundations.

AI has made it incredibly easy to outsource writing, research, problem-solving and even strategic thinking. But I think we need to ask what we’re losing when we continually choose the easiest option.

In this episode, I explore why doing the harder work can actually make us better marketers and business owners, and why AI should support our thinking rather than replace it.

I also tackle some of the marketing questions people are actively searching for, including automation, digital marketing strategy, email open rates, CRM software and choosing the right social media agency.

Key Takeaways

Your marketing strategy should go beyond digital tactics and consider the entire customer journey.

Use automation where it genuinely improves efficiency, but keep human connection at important customer touchpoints.

Better email marketing starts with sending more useful, relevant content.

A CRM is only valuable if the data going into it is clean, consistent and useful.

Different marketing specialists solve different problems. Know whether you need a strategist, social media specialist, SEO expert or another channel specialist.

Action to Take

Look at your marketing and ask:

Where am I using AI to save time, and where am I using it to avoid thinking?

Protect the work that requires your creativity, judgement and understanding of your customers.
