1:01So today, we're going to talk about AI, expectations, and stereotypes. The emergence of AI has given people an out. And in some ways, it causes a short circuit in critical thinking. It has huge impacts for politics, philosophy, and morals. One of the big problems is that the mere existence of generative AI interplays with a well-known psychological phenomenon and creates an escape valve. Most people at some point have heard the term cognitive dissonance. That's where people, unknowingly or subconsciously, hold fundamentally conflicting beliefs or perceptions. When these conflicts become noticed, the person will try to resolve the inconsistencies. This also interplays with confirmation bias, where a person rejects the information that doesn't match a closely held belief. The mere existence of generative AI

2:04provides a ready way to dismiss new information. Every so often, somebody shows up in the comments who is absolutely convinced that I'm AI. And it's not just because I have a relatively dry presentation style and don't yell at you and scream the world is ending. There's more to it. They're almost, though not always, conservative. They latch on to any perceived inconsistency as evidence that what they're seeing isn't real. My favorite is somebody who saw the patch on my hat upside down and became convinced that it was a generative glitch, rather than a well-known years-long bit. So why does this happen? I'm a blonde-haired blue-eyed white woman with lots of kids who lives in the rural south, has a ranch, and is a veteran. Conservative echo chambers believe that by default,

3:05this means I should automatically be somebody who owns a Trump flag. When my views come out, the fact that I'm not a blue-haired childless cat lady living in the Pacific Northwest causes discomfort. It doesn't fit their mold. They can reject their belief of what constitutes their in-group, or they can reject what they're seeing. Since Trumpism is not based on any actual principle, but rather obedience to Trump and his whims, the in-group identity is critical. They have to be able to say they're the people that represent the veterans and the mothers and rural people. Therefore, those who show that isn't exactly the case have to be dismissed. The easiest way to do that is to convince themselves that I may I. She has too many flannel shirts. Her hair changed. The hat patch is flipped. Wain till they see one with an entirely different patch.

4:07Yes, a Southern woman with too many clothes who changes her hair often is a complete anomaly that can only be explained by gender-dive AI. The danger of this is how easy it becomes to reject new information based on the that person is a bot escape valve. It places people in a situation where they can far more easily remain embedded in an echo chamber that is actively hurting them because those who might be able to reach them and disrupt the echo chamber are dismissed because they're AI. It's important to remember that Trumpism is not support of veterans or mothers or rural America. It's support of the wealthy. It's sending our forces into an unnecessary war without adequate planning, putting them in range without adequate protection. And then, after those losses, saying the war is small potatoes while oil companies make record profits.

5:10It's cutting snap, Medicaid, and other programs that mothers rely on so the wealthiest can have tax cuts. It's enforcing terrorists that devastate rural communities. So eventually, the working class will pay all the taxes through terrorists. And the ultra-wealthy can pay no income tax and give nothing back to the country that gave them so much.
