Juneau School Board Chooses Local Principal as Next Superintendent

The Juno School Board has picked Sean Arnold as the district's next superintendent. He's the only finalist who's already working in the district, serving as principal at Thunder Mountain Middle School. Arnold joined the Juno District in 2021. Before that, he led schools as superintendent in Valdez and Nome and worked as an administrator in the Madanuskas to seat in a burrow district. Before President Brittany Cione Haywood praised Arnold's deep knowledge of local schools. She said his experience will help build trust and support for students and staff across the board. The other finalists were Carly Simon, a former University of Alaska Southeast dean with past superintendent roles in Florida and Kevin Shipley. Current Texas superintendent who previously worked in Alaska schools. Contract talks with Arnold start soon, with a possible start date of July 1st. The superintendent Frank Hauser wraps up three years on the job, June 30th.
