Iditarod Musher Scratches Due to Personal Reasons

Rookie I Didarad Mushar, Jay Fautcher, from New Hampshire, scratched from the race Tuesday at 6.30 a.m. at the rainy past checkpoint. She made the call for personal reasons, with all 15 dogs in her team reported in good health. Earlier at the Finger Lake checkpoint, Fouche described tough conditions on the trail. Her team hit a tree that damaged the sled, and strong winds knocked down markers, making navigation tricky. She said the rough section wore out her dogs in equipment. This marks Fautcher's third attempt at the I Didarad. In 2022, a truck hit her team in Willow before the start, killing one dog and injuring three others. She withdrew the next year, while dealing with post-traumatic stress from that incident. Fouche has solid experience in other mid-distance races across North America, like the Can-Am Crown, up to 100, and Bear Grease. I Didarad officials praised her determination in sportsmanship this year.
