大象是世界上最大的陸生哺乳動物，但數量卻越來越少，根據聯合國國際自然保護聯盟調查，野生非洲大象群族從2006年開始還剩下50.8萬頭，至2015年僅剩41.5萬頭，數量大幅減損了約20%，而亞洲象的數量也在極速下降中。
