Hour 4: Lane Kiffin vs. College Football.

0:00So there is the court date is today, right? Is that the judge is going to rule today, whether or not these kids can play in two days. So now there's another layer. I don't know if this was filed within that hearing, but apparently the SEC is now filing a lawsuit against LSU and Lane Kiffin saying they deliberately coordinated a campaign campaign to recruit professional athletes. I mean, there's no doubt that's what they're doing. That's what they're doing. Yeah. That's mean, and they're being forward about that. It's not like they're so this, I mean, this story is sort of hanging over college football right now, but it's really hanging over LSU. Andy Staples reported on the Yahoo podcast, the college football inquire that there were people at LSU. I think it was Andy Staples, of them did on that podcast. People at LSU that don't want these football players to be

1:03able to come back and play. They shouldn't. They don't that this is, this isn't LSU versus everybody. This is starting to look like Lane Kiffin versus everybody, including perhaps, perhaps people at his own institution. We're saying administrators, ADs, the system, ADs, the president and the ADN, Lane Kiffin are named as defendants. They've filed a lawsuit in US District Court for the Northern District of Alabama against LSU. Whereas the hearing today is in Baton Rouge. It's so absurd. I don't get the grounds for lawsuit. I get trying to argue against it, but that's the problem with all this. The grounds for which lawsuit? The SEC? This is specifically the SEC filing against LSU. It's not like they're hiding that that's what they're trying to do. That's what they're trying to do. But I also don't understand why an athlete can go back and sue the NCAA just because they won another year. You play in the NCAA, you should abide by those rules. So the only argument that I think can be

2:04made is they've changed the rule this off season in a big mess up by the NCAA. They did it during the off season, the five for five rule. Had they done it before last year's eligibility had expired for the fourth year seniors, they would have then had the choice. Do I go to the league or I take my fifth year? Because of their timing, which was like after everybody had gone pro, they come back and say, now you can play five years. And some of those guys are like, why didn't know that? I would have gone back. And it makes sense. Some of them though, once you get to a camp and you collect the check, it feels like you're technically now a professional football player. But but you're technically a professional football player. It's different if you haven't expounded all your eligibility. And I guess the fifth year is different right because you've always had that. Right. You have guys transfer and take their fifth year. We've seen that for years. So yes, I do agree on that. But do you agree after this point? After moving forward, we just cannot do this

And when you can when you can, I mean, when you combine their basketball program, LSU really stands for Louisiana Sleeves University. We'll wait. Oh my god. And that's what you kind of expect to and hope to see out of price underwood in Ann Arbor. And for that matter, unless you're a male avoidive at Michigan State, yes. You know, is hey, though that last year can serve to set you up for success this year. You get valuable experience. You get more comfortable. Farve to Rogers to Jordan Love and Jordan Love did not have the season last year that I think a lot of people thought he would. He did just get ranked ahead of Jared Goff in that ESPN list of top quarterbacks or top players. Hey, drives me nuts. I mean, almost 40, 600 yards, you know, passing for Jared Goff, 34 touchdowns. And they're like, no, he's the third best in the division. Yep. I know. I know because he can't move. By the way, uh, just enamored with quarterbacks who have mobility. Somebody, whoa, it's, it is definitely a pet peeve of yours. It kind of has become that. Yeah. Somebody asked what books I read. The two books I, the one I finished was The Boys of Winner, which is a story about the 1980 US Olympic hockey team, the book. And I discovered to watch the documentary on it. Yes. Great.

8:27This book though, dispeled some myths. Do you know that like a half of the US Olympic hockey team were actually pros? They played like in Europe. No, they were playing minor league hockey. They were minor leagueers. In fact, one of the kids had played on the 76 Olympic team. I think Bush Schneider played on the 76 Olympic team and the 80 Olympic team because he never graduated. They weren't taking NHLers, but they were taking minor leagueers, which is something I did not know. They weren't all college kids. The other thing I didn't know was that the truth was the Russians weren't playing as well leading up to this game. Everybody remembers the game against the United States, but the Russian coaching staff knew that they were starting to slip before the game. They played, they played the United States and the game man got killed in the Russians one 10 to three. And everybody thought they were as good as, but the Russian coaches had growing concerns that they

9:29weren't playing as well. And we're vulnerable to something like what happened happening. And the other book I'm reading right now I haven't finished yet is Gambler's secret life of risk, which is a book by a guy named Billy Walters who's a career gambler. My brother-in-law's reading that book. I was with him up in North. Did he get to the Michelson part yet? I'm reading the Michelson part. This guy's gotten that far yet. Yeah, the Michelson part is interesting. It's just funny. I mean, the book starts with him saying I wouldn't be in prison right now if Phil had only told the truth. And I'm like, whoa. And then 200 pages later you get to that story. Wow. Yeah, this guy was, do you enjoy, because you listen to podcasts? Do you do audiobooks at all? I haven't in a while. I did for a bit though. I think I'd fall asleep unless it was such a commanding voice. I don't know why, but I'm never appealing. Well, then don't listen to an audiobook while you're driving. Well, I'll advise to you. What else would you listen to an audio? Well, when you're driving, but if you have problems staying away listening to an audio

But he told me some great stories about the 80 Olympics. And he told me that her books added him. He was playing minor league in Northern Quebec and Brooks knew new of them. The reason why he was added as the last player over Tim Horton, and up to him, Tim Herring was a great goal score scored 53 goals. That was a kid from Minnesota. Yeah, Minnesota. Yeah, 53 goals he scores set a school record at that time period. But he's her books added Welles because he was such a fluent skater. He needed somebody to be able to skate with a famous KLM line and Welles could do it. Yeah, he got him in there as a shutdown player. Yeah, he played it bowling green first, though, right? Correct. I had no idea. I found I found Bush Knighter's career. He played on the 76 Olympic team and then played four years of minor league hockey between the 76 and the 80 games. But absolutely. Yeah, it's a good book. No internet. Nobody's going to track them. And these guys, you know, herb Brooks knew everything. That's why Brooks basically had his team picked before the triaths even started. He only did that just to to appease the gods of hockey, but he already had his team picked. You don't pay him for what he's done. You pay him for what you think he's going to do next. Right. And can he develop that little outside shot that you need? Yeah. So just so people know, Amen, Thompson average 18.3 a game last year. Assar Thompson averaged 9.9. Right. Assar is, you know, they're different players. But what one brother got shouldn't really impact with the other brother got. But it's going to be expensive to keep a star. He's a valuable asset to this team. Um, as far as Dern's concern, if Dern would accept that, I'd probably give it to him. It's well below the max. Right. And there was a time there where it looked like he was going to

20:02get the max. And there was a time that looked like he was worthy of getting, if not the max, something close to it. Then the playoffs happened, right? Yeah. Five at 36 is such a bargain compared to the max that it might be a very team friendly contract as we work our way through. The way like Dylan Larkin Dylan Larkin, you see what you want about him? What he's getting paid now is a 30 goal score is peanuts compared to what 30 goal scores got me off season. Yeah. Everybody should want Dylan Larkin back with the Redlings because for his production, what you're paying is, is great value. And I got a feeling it's going to be the same thing true with Dern over the course of the next five years. And that quite frankly, the savings that they're going to get to allow him to do some other things. I think I would take that if he, if the holdup is during that's one thing, I hope the holdup isn't the pistons. And he said that's what he thought the offer was. Yeah. Listening to some people that are very knowledgeable on this thing, the belief is even if the judge in Batal Rouge rules in favor of Lane, that it won't last.
