4:03And you start to look at what you're going to do with those draft picks. Plus the Raiders have the most money in free agency. And if I go back to last year, the team that had the most money in free agency went to the Super Bowl, the New England Patriots. And they certainly felt like they were a couple of years ahead of schedule. But spending money, and what were they coming off of four win season. So it can be done. And you had a second year quarterback in Drake Mag. Seahawks spent the fourth most in free agency last year. He won the Super Bowl. Let's see. Pull question. 5:03Yeah. It is confusing as hell. Or you're like, well, why don't they just cut them right now? Well, it's actually better if you wait till March 15th. Why? Well, because then you got a reason why. What? Crazy. I'm still trying to figure out that second apron. You know, it's like, all right. I missed the first apron. Now it's the second. Does football have aprons? Or is it NBA? Is it just that? Right? Just has a hard salary cap and who has more of a soft? Who doesn't have one at all? My favorite is legal tampering. Why call it tampering if you're allowed to do it? But I don't know. This kind of an oxymoron. What did I call you, Todd? That's not very nice. No, it's not. I think voters are giving themselves a little too much credit. That should be like 73% no very little about how this all works. By the way, I did hear from somebody you used to be on the selection committee for March Madness. He said, you're giving us way too much credit if you think we manipulated matchups in the NCAA tournament. And I didn't respond to it. I'm responding to him now.

6:04But I have to believe that some of those matchups made for TV matchups didn't just happen accidentally. I refuse to believe that. And I'm talking to you, my source who used to be on the committee. Yes, Foley. It's almost like a two-part process. The NCAA tournament committee. I decided the seeding of a team and the next step is to place the team in a region and against possible opponents. So when you get a Texas Tech Indiana, they've decided their seeds and said, oh, we can make it so they play each other. Of course they do that. It's a TV show. Yeah, my source said, the matchups aren't manipulated. You're giving far too much credit to the committee. I love being accused of it, though. Okay. I still believe that they do that. I would do that. You know, if you're in March Madness, you know, got to keep winning. So why not make it entertaining matchups that you have a former coach with his team.

7:08Maybe a player who transferred. Those are fun things. Zach and Knoxville. Hey, Zach, what's on your mind today? All right, D.P. Thanks for taking my call. Best in work of the weekend. Best was just seeing all of those mid-major conference championships. It's just always good to see people playing hard defense with something on the line. And work of the weekend was Yukon losing the market. And I just wanted to ask you, do you think J.J. McCarty deserves a second chance? I know he only had 10 starts, but you look at a San Donald or Geno Smith, ended up with the Jets and Baker Mayfield with the Browns. He went to a very good spot with a very good coach. Do you think that he's a Reclamation Projects or would you move on? No. Well, I'd like to know how they feel because maybe they see something. Well, I'm sure they see things that, you know, we don't see.

8:08I only see the games. But I was never a big J.J. McCarty fan. That was one of those, hey, he's going to, if he proves me wrong, I'll admit it. But I just, I didn't see it in college. It felt like he had a fastball, but he didn't have off speed. And they didn't really rely on him to win games very often, which kind of struck me. But I would give him another year at his age with that contract, still under contract. But I, I wouldn't give him another year after this one. If I don't see, you know, remarkably higher numbers consistency, he's going to stay healthy as well. But that coach and that wide receiver feels like you could accidentally throw 25 touchdowns. 9:08Good, good. Hey, quick, best of the worst of the weekend. Best is resident Virginia Cavalier fan here, sneakily finishing the season 27 and 4 and 15 and 3 in the ACC. First year coach Ryan Odom did a phenomenal job this year of building a team with only one returning scholarship player. I never even played much. So Kudos to the Cavaliers. Hope to see them make a good run in the ACC and NCAA tournament, but the worst of a weekend. Dan, I'm not sure if you're familiar with the resume of one Jeremy Spears with Michigan State. Over the weekend against Michigan, that is, I believe, third or fourth groin kick of the year. I don't know how the big 10 doesn't suspend it for at least a game, maybe even the entire tournament. Guy's got about seven dirty plays, seven technicals this year and even worse Matt. Tom is a continuing to defend this tag. I'm just discussing as no place in college basketball. Well, he did coach dream on green at Michigan State.

10:10I have seen some of the highlights in, you know, their suspect as far as like, okay. It's not Grayson Allen, but it's close. Yeah, Paul. It's really easy to not kick someone in the groin. So when it happens in a game, it's probably on purpose. And if you see it, he did a little like backwards donkey kick towards the guy's groin. Yeah. What's like Grayson Allen, it takes a little effort to try to trip somebody. It doesn't, it doesn't happen. Like after like the third or fourth time, you know, then we realize it's not a coincidence. I got to take my son up to Portland yesterday for the, for his first NBA game.

11:12Got to see the trailblazers win, 1-31-111. So he was outing in Holland. Like I've never seen before. I think they made a, made a fan for life. Good. Well, thank you for the phone call. Oh, just, just to see the hair, the player introductions, the hair. Awesome. And it was all the tears and it was good for those kids. Anyways, how about the badges beating Purdue on senior day? One there, Paul. And I don't really have a worse, but Rashan Gary, it was time. Good luck, Dallas. Yeah, what happened to Purdue in the second half of the season? Because they were number one there for a little while. That's a veteran team, I believe. But it feels like they kind of fell off in the second half of the season. We had a listener bring up the L.A. Marathon and it was a photo finish in the L.A. Marathon.

12:17But then we find out if you did 18 of the 26 miles, you got a medal. Now, Seton has completed the New York City Marathon. How would you feel, Seton, if people who were running in the marathon after 18 miles got a medal? That is like what you got, but you finished it. I'd be pissed. I'd be super pissed. But 18, between 18 and 26 miles is a massive world of pain that you have to power through to cross the line to get that stupid medal that you're like, hell yeah, I did it. I got the medal. Yes, Paul. So the backstory is the day or two before the race, the organizing body said that the runners will have an additional choice on race day due to the heat. It's going to be a little hotter than normal as high in the low 80s. So if you get to mile 18, you could stop and still get credit for finishing the race. And your medal will look exactly the same as the 26.2 medal.

13:19For this one race only, not necessarily going forward. I can't do a participation medal. Once you get the race really starts at 18 miles, everybody talks about you hit the wall. It's brutal. It's brutal. Between 18 and 26 miles, for some people, it's probably really easy. But for me, it felt like every single muscle on my body was being pulled off one by one. It was horrible. It was like the worst thing. But you're like, dammit, I made it this far. You have to keep going. You have to finish. Just get the damn finisher's medal, you know? Yeah, Paul. And the other thing, 10 years from now, when you hold up your medal or attack your house, ran the L.A. Marathon. If you have the medal, people assumed whatever marathon you finish. Is that right, Satan? Yeah, of course. Yeah, they're not going to follow up and say, did you run on 26 miles? Yes, Todd. That's why if anything, you just get a sticker that says, like, I voted today, you get like, I ran part of the marathon. If you feel like you have to give people something at the 18 mile.

14:21Yeah, just like a bumper sticker. Yeah, like you still, you get your bib or whatever that little number that you have. Like, there you go. That's your, all right, you were in it. That's your, you were in it, medal. You know, look, I had a number. See, I did it. Oh, where's your medal? Oh, I didn't finish. That's the way it's supposed to go. If you finish, then you get one of those medals. Yes. Yes. And then, then wrap me an aluminum foil or whatever happens when you get to the finish line. Did you get wrapped in that, whatever that? I did. As soon as you cross the finishing line, they, like, sort of puts you right. You do that wrap and then somebody hands you a medal and then they go right there here. Stand right here. They take a quick picture of you. You're like, oh, my God. And then they just move you right along. Yeah. And it's not pretty at the finish line because my, my wife ran the New York City Marathon twice. And I just remember, she was running with somebody that I knew and that somebody that I knew got to the finish line and threw up right in front of us.

15:23And then proceeded to get on a plane and fly. Didn't even, didn't shower. Went to the airport, got on a plane and had to fly a couple hours to get back home. That's where you're, you know, you're walking down the aisle and you're going, let me see. I'm in a 14 C. Ooh. Wow. That person doesn't look like they've showered. In fact, they're wrapped in some kind of aluminum foil. Yes, Marvin. Watching the sense of accomplishment that people feel when they finish because I've worked the couple in New York City Marathons. And it's like, I, I don't want to drive 26 miles. You ran 26 miles. It's so impressive just watching every day people run four or five hours to make it to the finish line. Well, we went to the 18 mile mark one year when my wife ran it and we were at a bar. And we came out and cheer, cheer her on for, you know, like nine seconds and then went back in and had a couple more beers and met her at the finish line. Yeah, Paul.

16:23Wait, Dan, you said you watched from a bar at the 18 mile mark. You should get credit for watching an entire race because you made it to the 18 mile mark. Todd in Indiana. Hi, Todd. What's on your mind? Hey, thanks, guys. Thanks for bringing up this subject. I put on a lot of races, we time a lot of races. You'd be shocked at the people that email us the day after saying, I couldn't make it. But could you please send me my signature medal because I paid for it. So you are 100% right. Running 18 miles is not running 26. And just a little off topic, but what you were just saying, one of my jobs for my kids when we started this was to get people the timing chips off their ankles when they finished. I got a call from my daughter from college, Woodier, excuse me. And she said, thank you for making me do that. You know, I said, why? Why? Shit. I can see the look in someone's eye when they're going to throw up a pile away. And I apparently, she was at a bar and one of her friends was a welcome recipient of some nest.

I'm trying to figure out what he doesn't do at the ripe old age of 22.

22:40I think he's starting to figure it out. I think what I've been most impressed with, especially this year, he is embracing how teams are playing him because the knock, especially the first year, be physical with him. Get a bun drum, kind of move them around. And I think because of last year, his season was shortened because of the blood clots. We didn't get a huge sample size of games. But I think he went back to the lab this off season. We saw all his travels with the monks and different places trying to figure out the meaning of life and the game of basketball to him. And he's come back with a sense of purpose of matching other teams physicality. Again, he's still not the biggest guys, but he's embracing how these teams are playing him. And if you just case and point the last three games, he went against the Detroit Pistons,

23:40a very physical team, the LA Clippers who have a number of players who like to play physical. And even last night with the Houston Rockets, they have a starting lineup of 6667, 6969, and 7 feet with Kevin Durant. And they try to get a bun drum. They try to be physical with him. He embraces that now and almost uses it against them. And you're right. And I was trying to think, and I was trying to put myself in the shoes of fans, of players that it is an experience when you watch and play, Dan. And I'm thinking like MJ was like that because you didn't know what you were going to see with MJ on the court. I put Stephen Curry in that because of his ability to shoot the basketball. To me, Whitney is a must see experience because you truly do not know what you are going to see. And what you do see and witness, it's like, I don't think I've seen a human being do that.

24:46But what I'm also seeing is somebody who cares. If you saw him in the All-Star game, you saw him in the Olympics, even the comeback game against the Clippers where he got emotional. He truly cares about the outcome of the game. And I find that really rare, and certainly at the age of, you know, I brought up 22. Isn't it refreshing? All right. We get so jaded nowadays because of some of these big contracts and load management, guys not wanting to play. Here's a guy who, again, he'll listen to the trainers and the doctors for this verse. But he wants to be out there every minute and he wants to be out there competing. And I just wonder if our American-born players and some of the elite players are getting tired of the talk that Victor Wimbenjama saved the All-Star game,

25:46which he did. He set the tone in that first game, how hard he came out and played. And I wonder if our American-born players are looking at this saying, you know what? That should be us. That's how we should be playing. And you have this freshman setting the tone. And I'm not the only one setting that he saved the All-Star game. But a lot of people are saying that because of how he approached it. And it's just refreshing to see that he competes so hard in just his third season. And he just sets a precedent. I'll give you anybody in the league for the next five years. Who you taking? Oh, I would take him because of what he does at both ends of the floor. Anybody close? Kate Cunningham would be in there. I think Cooper Flag will have his moments. Again, Cooper is only what? 1920. But for the next five years, right now he's the face.

26:49And he's a very humble kid. But yet, how he approaches the game is very thoughtful. He's very methodical in terms of prep for a game, prep for his body. The only thing that will be a not going forward will be the injury part. And right now, he's with the perfect organization because they basically avoided load management. Back to the great pop of bitch and Tim Duncan, Manu Genobi, Tony Parker, days. So he's with the perfect organization in terms of saving his body going forward. And you know what? Protecting him for himself. Because he again, he wants to be out there every minute competing at a high level. Speaking of being out there, Jason Tatum comes back. It's not like they eased him into the lineup. He was in the lineup. And I love watching this team. And now Tatum back, I think they're the team to beat in the east. I agree. I agree with him.

27:49And especially with the recent slide of the Detroit Pistons. I think they've lost their last three. I still think Detroit will win the east. But I think Boston is in the perfect situation because now you have a long runway for Jason Tatum to get into basketball shape. Almost a month until the season is over. And then the first, the first and second rounds, that's another two to three weeks. So they almost has two months, two full months to get in basketball shape. This past game on Saturday in Cleveland, he played 27 minutes. This is a guy that's been off for 10 months within a Kelly's injury, a Kelly's tear. And he comes back and he played 27 minutes on the road. I thought they were going to play him in even smaller increments. But it just lets me know that he was, he's been back for a while. Because for him to come back and play at this level and play those minutes, impactful minutes. It means he's been practicing and lifting and whatever else he's been doing, it's been absolutely remarkable.

28:57And it's going to be a fun game tomorrow because two great defensive teams, Boston and the Spurs. And it'll be interesting because he will be tested. Him, Brown, Pritchard, they will all be tested on the wings because the Spurs play a very physical style as well defensively. This should be a very fun and entertaining game. Michael Jordan says he doesn't get involved in the goat debate. The latest interview that Mike Trico did with him. You talked about it on the broadcast. Why would Mike get involved in the goat debate? Because we're his minions. That's our jobs to serve the key. Yeah, but he doesn't have to say anything. He doesn't have to say a word. That's our job. Our job, look at the scoreboard and go like this. All you need to do is hold up this. And that's it. This six finals, MDPs. Look, I didn't play against everyone. That's ever played.

29:57I never played like he said against Oscar, Jerry West and all that. But I do know what it does feel like to go against him. Kobe, LeBron from one season. And I love all those guys. It's hard to, he will never win if he interjects himself, puts himself in that place. Again, that's our place. That's our job. Yours and eyes. Because from you, your eye test. You've been around a long time. You've seen a lot of basketball. I played against a lot of great players. The magic, the Larrys, the Michaels. I played against them all. So I kind of get it. But again, that's not our job to do that. And that's not his job to do that. Yeah. You know, it's weird when I get asked this question. Because look, you can build up a resume for LeBron and you go, what he did to do it for over 20 years and, you know, consistency.

30:58But you see Kobe. And it's, and it's weird how I think Kobe got kind of, well, I think we lost you, Redd. Oh, yeah. Start bringing up Jordan. Oh, here we go. Yeah. Todd will see if he can get Redd's back on there. I'm just glad that Mike Tariqo, you know, Mike hadn't been that busy the last, you know, six weeks. I'm glad that he got to do something where all Redd's is back. Where's our, our eyes guys. Yeah. Got to sit down with Jordan again for another interview. But, you know, Kobe's the one that, like, if I'm you and you say, okay, you got to face LeBron, Mike, Kobe. Like Kobe is Mike. I mean, it's, LeBron's a different, different animal out there. But like, style wise, Kobe is, is Mike, because he, he patterns himself after. I think we get caught up when we talk about the goat situation

31:58and the goat debate. To me, the best player of the three is MJ. Kobe is a clone in a better version. Like, he's Mike on steroids. Better jump shooter. To me, the fundamentals were better, because he perfected them to be like the master, MJ. If you're talking about careers, the best career out of all three of those, in my opinion, is LeBron, because of the longevity and what he has done, eight straight finals. But you, you, you put emphasis on career and rightfully so career versus as a player. Yeah. There's a difference. So, I mean, LeBron has had the best career out of anyone for him to continue to play like this at this level, this late in his career. But if we're going stack for stack, player to me, MJ, Kobe, and then LeBron.

33:05Oh, in that order. To me, in that order, just because, look, I only had one year versus LeBron, my last year, his rookie year. I got tattooed by MJ. I got tattooed by Kobe at a high level. I, you know, facing Kobe in the finals. So, there's a body of work between Kobe and I that I can, you know, I have a sample size against. It's interesting when I watch defenders on guys who are supposed to score. And how you don't let it affect you. But I don't know how you don't. Like, if you're guarding Kobe on the wing and everybody's watching, and all of a sudden, he blows by you and, you know, dunks, like, how do you not take that personally? Well, you never wanted to show emotions when you were playing those two guys. And I tried as much as possible not to, because I tried to put pressure on them at the other end as well, because I'm blowing by them as well.

34:07You know, I, I tried to put as much pressure and make them work as hard as they possibly were making me work to try to tire them out. Both of those players, Kobe, Mike, they were superior athletes and fantastic shape, which is very difficult to do. So, you know, you, I heard you earlier talking about the LA marathon and, you know, right in the 26 miles all that. I tried to make it a marathon versus those guys and make it a track meet and constantly keep them in motion to try and tire them down. It's beating so much more because you say to yourself, can I win four games? When you get to the finals, that's what you say. I've got to win four games. When we went down to a going back home and we won game three, we're like, you're saying three wins. You would do anything to win three games. That's how desperate you get. That's the thinking you have to have. I know people ought to be politically correct, but you are counting down to 16 wins once you get to the NBA playoffs and once you get to the finals, you just say, how can I win four games before that other team? Would you give up part of your pinky finger on your left hand?

38:14Friendship? Yeah. Do you understand? Oh, man. Yes. Oh, my left hand? Yeah. Oh, I still contributing. Yeah. Give me the ball. Give me the ball. Nine and a half fingers, Miller. Yeah. Just give me the ball. Yes. Yes, I would. To me, the reason why I feel this way, people, and I want to explain this to them, if I had never been so close for so many years, so many conference finals versus the mix, feeling when you're that close, when it's eight down to four, losing to the Lakers and the finals, needing four wins. When you're that close and you can taste it and see the finish line, but you can't get to the finish line, that's why I feel this way, these things. If I had been, like, first second round, and always, you know, going out, I had, I was never close to the finish line,

39:16so who cares? But when you're close and you can see the finish, I felt like that came in runner. That was in first place, and the American winner was right, that's how you feel when you get to the semi-finals. Can I get to that finish line first? Marvin, last week, said, if he was the Buffalo Bills, he'd rather not get to the Super Bowl and lose. He'd rather lose earlier in the playoffs. I want to be on the biggest stage, Marvin, because you want the world seen you, you want to compete at the highest level against the best players, and if that's the World Series, the Super Bowl, the NBA finals, the Stanley Cup, the Olympics, for some of these runners and track athletes, you want to compete against the best. And that year, we went to the finals with Larry Legend as our coach. We felt we were the best team in the East.

40:17We knew the Lakers were the best team in the West. We wanted that smoke, and we knew it was going to be an uphill battle. But they hadn't won in a long time. So both of us were coming in. We knew they had a pedigree. They were the Lakers. But the Lakers hadn't won yet. That was their first championship. And we had never won. So we felt we were on equal footing. So that's why we felt we had a shot. And I like that Kobe stole your move, your step back jump shot. We filmed a real real world episode. He and I, we check on the real world cast in a game of two on eight. And before we started filming, before the other crew showed up, we played one on one Kobe and I. And hey, show me this. Show me this move. You know, he was like picking my brain. I love how you do this. You know, I saw you do this against MJ.

41:17And I was like, being a big brother. Yeah. Yeah. This is what I did. You do the step back. Be sure you create space. And when he, when he closes, one more dribble and then you're like, it's like, okay, I got it. That fool was writing it down. And you and those moves against me in the finals. I'm like, ain't this something. Ain't this something smart dude. Smart Kobe. Rest God rest. I know you were looking down on this interview right now. Smiling. Then yeah, I ran it. I got you.
