Joey was a little down this year. He didn't, uh, he didn't break the record. He just, you know, one heavily. We saw a huge upset last night, dog. Uh, you, you get upset, Joey Chestnut. Oh, right. I'm the UMass and yes. I don't know that I would ever describe Joey Chestnut as, Joey Chestnut is the competitive easing. What Rutgers is to college football? Probably not. No, but just more of the spread. Yeah. It's about right. Uh, okay. So look, one of the big stories in college football is the Baton Rouge judge allows those two players to play for LSU. He rules in their favor. Stunning. And the SEC immediately turns around and sues LSU.

3:06And Lane Kiffin, right? Yes. So a couple of things about this. One is, of course, this is absurd. But at this point, effort, let him play. There is an undercurrent from the SEC and talk that it could lead to a movement to kick LSU out of the southeastern conference. That the SEC might take it to that extreme. I suspect that that's only idle talk. Probably. However, I would love to hear that there's a meeting of SEC athletic directors and presidents to talk about a future without LSU. Is there a school that has three of their head coaches as polarizing as LSU when you have Lane Kiffin, Will Wade and Kim Mulkey, the Youngins basketball coach. Yep. Who's out there? I mean, I don't know that she's, I don't know if she bends rules or do you think that, but she's out there. Exactly. Uh, I'll just say, I'll answer the question this way.

4:10No. Yeah. There's not, there's not a school like that. But I will tell you what's going to happen. This is my prediction. The honor amongst thieves code in college athletics starts to go out the window with Lane Kiffin. He better not have any exposure at all and have his house in order. True. Because I think for the most part, coaches have suspicions about rules being broken, but they don't say anything. Well, that was my boss problem. He, you know, I'm on his people off. Right. And then people started digging and there were things to find. Yes. I, I don't want to impune Lane Kiffin, but people are going to start digging and going after him. And it's not just the NCAA. It's going to be other coaches. It's going to be other athletic departments. It's going to be media members. When you are the way Lane Kiffin is, it's going to lead to the

5:17honor amongst thieves code to be broken. And coaches are going to call up and whether or not the NCAA has an E.T. anymore has gotten discussed. They kind of do. But they have to have hard evidence and be able to prove things because everything, everything gets resolved and court these days. You are right. But in a weird, sick way, I'm glad this Lane Kiffin thing is, is happening. Because in all of our lives, you know, television shows, movies, sports, you want to have a villain. And Lane Kiffin is the villain of college football right now. And if LSUs play in somebody and, you know, I'm going to watch this game or another, I'll watch LSUs. I hope the villain loses. Because it used to be, you put on LSU just to see, you know, two goal posts and the five yards. The five yard, every five yards are said, you know, the five yard line, the 10 yard line, the 15. Now Tiger Eye in the middle of the field is sick. Right. Look, and now you put on LSUs,

6:20you want to see Lane Kiffin lose. And by the way, except for Coach O, I mean, their head coaches, you know, Brian Kelly was not exactly well loved and either was less miles, if you think about it. No. Well, I will, and you know, who's loving this? Absolutely loving this. This entire timeline, the sitting over there in the corner in a boardroom rubbing their hands or executives at ABC. Because they've got LSU Clemson Saturday night. Oh, absolutely. And the ratings are going to be off the charts, off the charts. And, and, you know, it's a storyline for college football. And you're right. Huge villain. And before he's coached a game, I suspect there are LSU fans, maybe not all of them. And maybe not a huge percentage, but I can almost guarantee there are some that are saying, is this even worth it? Yeah, I know. Because these two players that were at Ole Miss, then went to the NFL and came back and looked the case can be made. I've talked about this a lot.

7:25I feel bad timing is bad. The NCAA brought this upon themselves by announcing the five for five thing after players were drafted. They should have done it well beforehand. So everybody could be prepared and everybody knows, but they kind of blew that. And some of these kids kind of got screwed. If you were four years done and went pro because you didn't think you could come back and then found out later you could. You're like, wait, I wouldn't have left. And then you get cut and wife's not fair too. You get. But the ones who get cut or screwed the most that I feel bad for are the ones who lose. I don't think they lose their scholarship, but they lose their place on their team because you brought some guy who couldn't make the NFL back. Sure. I mean, that's absurd. You mentioned being a parent of that kid. Yeah, it's suck. Yeah. It would absolutely suck. But I'm like screw it. Let him have his guys. This is a one year store, right? And people won't be able to sue to come back in the future in theory because everybody knows the rules. Right. It's five for five that you have five years of eligibility full stop. But so much, so much of what happens in

8:31sports now happens because of lawsuits or fear of lawsuits. Right. Well, the NCAA's problem is man, they were like you mass up into yesterday. They lose every lawsuit. That's their problem. At the NCAA, either they have bad lawyers or just bad cases, the landscape would be a lot different. But nobody's afraid to sue the NCAA because they know they'll win. They're winning the cases again. So morning, a lot. Now the SEC, I can almost guarantee that the SEC is going to get an injunction. And then these players over under our number of games they'd play, I'd put it at like two and a half. But but Lane is rocking the boat. But we saw it with Harbaugh with satellite camps. And I will tell you they put yourself in the bull's eye and people are going to come at Lane. They're going to come at Lane. And I can almost guarantee that during this season, we're going to hear something about Lane Kiffin or LSU that came from somebody in the

His motivations are so obvious. And yeah, right? It's all about money. Yep. The whole world. And college football has sacrificed so much for short term financial gain. 11:46It's easier for us right now because the big 10 and the big 10 institutions have said we're not going to bring back players in the NFL. But that may change for college basketball. Especially if LSU wins this case, college basketball, see a flood of players come back. If LSU wins, if this ruling stands, yeah. But, you know, and there are other schools that are highly ranked that are better than North Carolina. I think. All right. So the big 10 and Tony Petiti went on the Andy and Ari show on on three and said the big 10 is willing to require teams to play 10 games against power conference opponents. A scheduling concession, the SEC is demanded. And they would that if it delivers the SEC support for a 2014 playoff. Yes. So there's two things about this. If you have to play one non conference game against the

13:52power for team. Yeah. It sounds great in theory. But I think what you're going to get is most of the really good programs will be burning up the phones to the really bad programs. The most popular person in college athletics might become the athletic director at Wake Forest. Yeah. Because. Or in your home in Miami in Ohio State and Michigan and Notre Dame. I'll be calling another name. I guess has that scheduling agreement with the ACC. They're all going to be calling up Wake Forest and they're all going to be calling up Kansas. They're going to be calling up schools of that ilk. You know what they should do. They can make money off it. They get it sponsored. They should have like a lottery or like, you know, all right. Michigan. Here you go. We thought of the wheel goes around Kansas. Well, and that would be pretty cool. If they took the scheduling of those games out of the hands of the schools. Yeah. I would have no issue with that.

14:55It'd be great. You know you're getting a home game or a road game. You just don't know against too. Right. That would be fantastic. You have like the road game on one wheel and the home team on the other. That way every other year, you change the dynamic. Yeah. I mean, I guess you would, if you're in a pool of teams that are all home one year and then all road the next, you'll never play any of those teams. Right. But still, they might not be able to make that work with the numbers, but, but, but, but, it could be a game show. But I don't know anyone who wants a 2014 playoff. I do Tony Petiti. That's it. Well, let's start with what a 2014 playoff. What are some of the consequences of a 2014 playoff? You probably will not have a conference championship game. Which I don't think anybody would lose sleep all night. No, I think the SEC wouldn't a certain way, because it's because of the tradition there, but they're sorry. It's like the big east tournament and the ACC tournament in basketball, even though they don't really mean that much, they're still

16:00important. And the big 10 to a lesser extent because they were the, they were later later to that party. Um, so you have no conference championship. Ball, some of the ball games would be meaningless, which they kind of are. Yeah, that doesn't matter. Yeah. But here's what does matter. Every year, more likely than not, when you get to the end, there are cut, there are rivalry games with real meaning. You will be taking meaning away from Alabama, Auburn and Michigan or Ohio State. Those games will become less important if both teams are 10 and two and there's a 2014 playoff, or 10 and one or nine and two or whatever, because they're going to get in. But do you you're going to be putting more meaning on Kansas, Kansas, state and Cal Stanford? But do you think, let's say hypothetically Michigan, Ohio State, whatever, they gain their both 11 and one, whatever it is, 10 and two, whatever. I realize that. You told me that even though they both know

17:10they're going to be in the playoff, it's going to be, they're going to have like sit out guys. I don't know if they're going to have sit out guys, but it won't mean as much. And you are taking more meaning away from rivalry weekend. That's one. Two is don't be fooled by this. Tony Petiti was a TV executive. Oh yeah. He's running the big 10. Right now on a 12 team playoff, there are 11 playoff games. There are 11 playoff games. None of which are on Fox. Fox is the big 10's television partner. Right. If you go to 24 teams, that means there are 12 more playoff games added that are up for bid. Tony Petiti is doing Fox's work here. Their TV partner to try and get Fox writes to post season game. Not not wink wink. Yeah, probably. And this is what why are we doing this? Why are we doing this? We are doing it so that Fox is happy. Are we doing it? So Tony Petiti can

18:18can tout record earnings. I mean, at some point, the people in the game, the coaches have to step in and say enough. This 12 team playoff has been very popular. Very popular. And the only reason to expand it, there's not a screaming reason to expand another thing greed. Of course. And I know greed drives a lot of decisions, but this feels to me like, I feel like the big 10 is trying to do the heavy lifting for its TV partner. They are. There's no doubt about it. And I would love to see what would happen if like Netflix or Amazon Prime said, you know what Fox, take your money away. This is we're going to give to the big 10. And I'm going to dwarf that because that's what they do. And look, you know what I expect here to because this is how everything's decided these days, this is going to end up in court. The 2014 playoff, there will be a judge ruling on it at some point.

19:22And at the NCAA is involved in the court case, they'll lose. Usually that's the case. But bottom line is this is that that's how you follow the money. You follow the money to Fox wanting playoff games. 248, 539, 97, 97. Now, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the masses want this. But I don't have one person in my sphere saying, I hope they expand the playoff again. Me neither. I don't know anybody. I mean, if anything, I know a lot of people that would rather decrease from 12. This is just more evidence of the people, the suits that make these decisions that say like, like, for example, like, they expansion the playoffs like you guys are talking about no no fan asked for this, but they're going to probably end up giving it to us anyways. Roger Goodell and the international teams and the games, no fan. They didn't ask any fans of the one because no fans say, hey, we should play in Munich. No, no one says that, but they're giving it or forcing it to on us because

21:25a couple of different ways to look at it. One, what college further playoff system has done is made all of the mid-level goals irrelevant. Nobody watches, nobody cares. What you're doing by expanding it to 2014 is taking those goals like it was used to be the music city pool, get 10,000 people. All of a sudden it's going to be a televised game part of the playoff system. Now you get 50,000 people in there. So all these secondary goals become real meaningful goals. And so now, you know, there's a whole other revenue streamer, a whole little level of interest. And at the same time, you know, we've seen March Madness expand and what happened with that? Did it did nothing more than increase viewership? Same thing with one of the playoffs system. So I can see a Big 10 perspective. If you're a Michigan fan or a house state fan, Penn State, the whole group, I don't want to lose my, you know, my normal rivalries. I don't want to lose the end of the year in course of the games. However, all the residents, many, many other teams in the country are being like, hey, I get in. I get a chance to play in part of a pack house and meaningful goal. Pat, what if I told you, bowl ratings went up last season?

22:29But did they go up in the little bowls? Or did they only go up in the playoffs? Bowl season average, bowl season average just under 3 million viewers for the season, which was up 14%. The Florida citrus sports that put on the cheese at bowl was a big winner. Pop Tarts Bowl, also a big winner, the tax later gator bowl, not the playoff games, the bowls. Okay. So you think all the bowls, I don't know if I can do it across across the board. Bowl viewership was up 14%. But that's a part of that's because now you can battle on these games. 100% true. But he says nobody cares. Well, actually, and he actually said nobody's watching more people were watching year to year. So how many more will watch if those come the first level? Let me back up. I want to back up though, Pat, you brought up some points that were all valid and almost all of them were financial until you got to. There's a bunch of teams that would wanted to expand because they have a chance to get in. And that might be true. Okay, you might have a lot of mid-level college programs that say, okay, I might be able to get in now at 8 and 4.

23:33If I'm wake forest, right? But I don't know that that's a good reason for everyone to be in favor. Because most of the teams, the country's not clamoring for more wake forest. Correct. Most of the teams that will get in the last team, they're not going to win the national championship. That's the thing with basketball. I mean, there's 64 teams. I mean, how many have a legitimate chance to win? Maybe 20? Maybe. That's I'm being liberal. Early. I don't maybe think eight. And now, you know, expanding now from 64 to 66 to 68 with an extra playing game, which to me is who cares anyway. And that doesn't bother me because those teams usually have no shot anyway. Because it's not about competition anymore. At one point, the purity of the game and why you played and started all this was you wanted to find out who's the best at whatever sport, whatever it is, right? That has gone out the window. And it's now it's entertainment. I hate to tell people that but straight up it's entertainment. It's how do I get more people to watch? How does

24:33someone ever ties in time? All that stuff. And if they continue and we're part of the problem, the public, because Doug, you put it, you bring up the ratings. If we continue to watch and they continue to go up and they see that whether it's gambling or whatever it is, they're not going to stop. Why would they stop? It's a cash cow. Right. It's all money. It's everything in this entertainment. It's entertainment. It's money. It's not about what's fair. What's right? Oh, find out who the best team is. No, it's about finding out, getting storylines and getting people to watch. I think the college football needs to be very careful because college football taps into, can what do you say about college football fans? Y'all are crazy. And in that craziness is driven a lot by tradition. Yeah. And if you're homogenizing it and turning it into a mini NFL, I think it kills a very important part of the game. But hopefully cooler heads prevail and they don't expand the plan. Yeah. It would make no sense. And in Pat for dollars and since we asked for collars, we got one. Yeah. One. Yeah. Okay. 25:40had West Bloomfield open up their home season with a win over Troy 3321. I've been doing the public address announcing as you know, at West Bloomfield High School, it's my community service for a long time. Since I believe Ron Bellamy's first year as the head coach at West Bloomfield, I think it's 2000. Great. Great. And we have a lot of cool people there, help with the scoreboards and all that kind of stuff. So yesterday, I'm not going to mention anyone's name. Okay. Because we're going to protect the guilty, not even the innocent. The game's going on where we're winning pretty easily at this time. And all of a sudden somebody walks in the depressed box and starts screaming at me. Stony, this place is dead. Get some music going. This I've never been to a high school game before where the crowd is so dead. What's going on here? You know, where's the band? I think you were a DJ. I said, I said, excuse me. I don't control the music. I just

26:42try to announce who has the ball, who makes the tackle. And it was the end of it, basically, because I don't know how he even got in there because the person is usually somebody there who doesn't let people in the press box. Anyway, and then at the end of the game, I told the athletic director and the principal about what happened. And they were like, you got to be kidding me. So, you know, so and then I saw this person and we were discussing it again. And he was getting a little heated again about it. And then I said, well, talk to them. So he's talking to the principal and the athletic director goes, you know, Troy had their pet band. What we have a band, I said, wait a second, our band was there. We have a very small band. You know, Troy is a renowned band. I mean, Jamie's daughter does the flag stuff that they didn't do it on the road games, but whatever. And it was just like, you got to be kidding me. Now, maybe he and Bide before the game. I have no idea. Because from all to everybody tells me, and I've I've met

27:44this person before. This is kind of unique for his personality. But man, well, I've just got me saying, thinking parents for high school sports. Oh, God. Just come on. Have you two, four, eight, five, three, nine, ninety seven, ninety seven. What's your worst encounter with high school parents in sports? Oh, God. I feel like so I'm just entering my kids are really young. They haven't really gotten into competitive sports or anything like that yet. And Doug, you've been through it. Stony. You've been through it. I find, and it's not just sports. I know we're going to focus on sports here, but I find in general when there's issues with the kid or whatever, it's not the kid. It's the parents. It's like almost always the parents. I just look to the parents and go, yep, that makes sense now. Like, why are you know, like, relax? Right? Like, I can't believe they came into the press. But he was sitting in the stands and got motivated to go find the press box. The door walk in. Yeah. You got more music. And in fact, the band was told by the

28:49officials to stop playing right before the snap count. You know, right. They didn't want to play in there. Yeah. And it was, look, it was a late start. It's a holiday week. And it wasn't a huge crowd, but you know, but he was comfortable about it. Yes. What's that? It's crazy. And he thought you, yeah, Mr. Mr. Nonconfrontation. And you are, and he was a follow up. Yeah. Wow. Well, I don't like making generalizations. Right. But the craziest parents are hockey parents. Oh, really? Well, I'm through my experience. Okay. Yeah. hockey parents can get very, very emotional. And I'm a big believer of the following credo. Parents from opposing teams should only say the following things to one another. Good luck

29:53and good game. That is it. Nothing else should be allowed. That's a great point. Nothing else should be allowed. And what when I hear parents from teams interacting, I'm like, oh god. But I will say another consistent behavior that drives me crazy is people complaining about the officiating and yelling at refs at high school games. It's hard to find refs these days. Oh, I know. They're not getting rich doing it. And I will put a teal like this. Your kids stinks and the rough stinks. Everybody's out there for a reason. If you start thinking about the quality of officiating at the NBA NFL level, then you got the next wave of officials that are like working a college level. Right. When you start getting down to the high school level,

30:58guys who have jobs, men and women who have jobs that then are showing up on a Friday night, not getting rich doing it. Some of them are, I mean, I don't want to say volunteering. Right. But I hear some of the things I hear parents yell at officials and umpires. This is why you can't get them. You know, it's also horrible when I've experienced this high school basketball games where the parents just bitch if the coach is about playing time and, you know, what offense are they running? And in basketball, it's worse because you're so close. The coach is everybody can hear football. You know, you can bitch all you want and the coach will never hear it pretty much. Well, those are the consistent behaviors that I have seen. But I have never heard. I'm today, years old. The first time I've heard of somebody yelling at the PA announcer to play more music. Yeah. I do. I wish you would have. I wish you would have played

So, I'm excited to see it, man, and it keeps people in college, you know, I wanted the college players to get paid, but you know, now I think it's gone a little bit too far. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, you think expanding the playoff will keep players in college? I think, I think the 2014, I think because of 2014, when it gets to 2014, it's just stopped there. And it's just stopped being at top 25 and just a top 24 and college of the day and capital 24 and you got 24 schools then. So, you got enough for the lower tier schools that want to try to make it to get into the dance to make it.
