From Lester, this is your March 12 update. Raymond Goodfield, a 53-year-old man from Luffborough, once lived on the streets after years of battling depression and heavy drinking. He had been fit and active in his younger days, playing football and hitting the gym, but things spiraled until he ended up homeless and just out of the hospital with leg issues. Now, he sober and rebuilding his life, all thanks to free-weekly outdoor gym sessions. These sessions happen every Tuesday at Southfield's Park and stem from a research project run by Luffborough University. Recently, Charne Woodboro Council added new equipment, making it easier for everyone to join in. Goodfield was pointed toward food banks and support when someone invited him to try the classes. For Goodfield, the gym has been a game-changer. He struggled at first with being around people, feeling shy and withdrawn, but the kind group and instructors helped him open up. Many new folks built his confidence and tackled his mental health struggles head on. The program partners with active Charne Wood, the local council and fusion lifestyle to help
residents get moving, especially those basing barriers. Like homelessness or disabilities, trained leaders guide workouts on equipment designed for balance and rehab, drawing in beginners.
