About this episode
In this illustrated children's book by Cynthia Rylant, a young boy named Henry and his large dog Mudge take in a shabby stray cat that wanders onto their doorstep. Although the feline is scruffy, the family grows fond of it as it develops a maternal bond with Mudge, teaching the dog manners and sharing his toys. The family eventually displays lost-and-found posters around town, which leads a policeman to claim his beloved pet, originally named Dave. While Henry and Mudge are heartbroken to see their new friend leave, the officer sends a gift of dog treats and a badge to show his gratitude.
