Gold Medal For Quin Village Tidy Towns

0:00There's great pride in Quinn this week as the village celebrates a major milestone winning a gold medal in the Tidey Towns competition. The award, of course, recognizes years of dedication from volunteers and community members who have worked tirelessly to keep the village looking its best. And indeed, Clara performed really well. It was great for Clara in terms of the Tidey Towns competition with the likes of Claire Castle, Balivon, Ennis, and Newmarketham Ferguson and Kilrush, also winning goals as well. And online, we have the new chair of Quinn Tidey Towns Pat O'Brien to talk about what the achievement means for the community and how they hope to build on their gold standard in the years ahead. Good morning Pat and congratulations. Good morning, weather's up to a good morning, but we're driving on. Yes, we're a great chair. We've got the gold this year, our first time achieving it. The last couple years, we've got silver last year and we have bronze last year before. But we have a great committee. We've super people at the helmet at the moment and I'm carrying on my jokes.

1:00It's from Gabrielle, Hannah, the chairperson before me who did terrific walk around the village as you degree of committee. And we've had some great committees down to the years as well. So it's a gold medal, it's a culmination of other committees and hard work that's come on for years. And what I was trying to achieve and keep our village looking well and to the lot more of our dollars in just keeping the village tidy, there's a lot of involved by diversity as well. So we're looking off to have a good team and place to drive it on. Yeah. And clearly you've been learning and improving as the years go on because as you've mentioned, you've gone from bronze to silver to gold. And me, I'm curious as to what improvements or changes you've made that have seen you upgraded to gold this year. Is it more focus on biodiversity and sustainability or just increase efforts in ensuring there isn't a pick a later on the ground? Well, it's a bit of all of those really. Like we have one person there, I must give recognition to his GM's authority.

2:00He's the work that he does. He's working for Clear County Council. He's an absolutely brilliant worker. Anytime you pass to the village, you would see GM's, he's always working. And he's terrific. He does a great job, so I couldn't enough of himself about GM's. But this year I suppose sustainability and biodiversity have come into play a lot more than what you were in over the years. So we have a couple of very people involved in leaders there. But at least companies are leading biodiversity. And she does terrific work. And she's able to assist with the Alice and Dean is ahead of our sustainability. And we've been both of them that they do fabulous work to do. And the brilliant source out there and get projects going as well. And we've either crowded in our secretary and I got an interview. She's a brilliant editor. She keeps keeping the organisers. And she's anything that comes out of any brand of projects she does on the ball. And she keeps me in my towards anyway. She doesn't fall there a couple of times a week to me. And I'm ready for this meeting and that meeting.

3:02When we're going to end this and when we're going to end there. Well, you know what? That's what you need. You don't want complacency to set in and look. You've achieved gold. But I guess now the goal going forward. Pat is to maintain the high standards you've reached. In to that end, have you new projects or plans in the pipeline to further enhance the village. And are you always on the lookout for for people who want to get involved with Quintidey Towns? Yeah, we have even this week in coming now. It's a busy weekend for us. We have two projects going on this weekend. Like we have a furniture upcycling that's on in the hall. The community centre on Saturday. That's on all day. And this is our second time doing that. It was great success at that time. Which means bringing an old furniture that's kind of a bit shabby and bring your back to life really. It could be standing it down and repainting. And the bull crowd doing that again. That was this year. That's one of the things that's on Saturday. And then we have a terrific lady there. Leanne Hughes and our partner. It was a camaraderie who do.

4:04And foraging and. Why are they can they show you? What's it? What's edible? What plants are edible? And are not edible around around Quintidself. So that's also happening now on Saturday. And then they will make their when they have their. Plants and stuff. They'll be making a green pistol. So that's going on Saturday. From I think half 11 11 to half 12. But I think. So Leanne and the way she have delivery of these courses is absolutely brilliant. She's tough test at delivering courses and workshops. And she makes you very interested for everybody. And people enjoy going to them. Yeah, it sounds like you've got you've great people with interesting ideas. And as you say, keeping everyone on their toes. So that standards don't slip. And I it sounds positive in terms of maintaining your gold level standards going forward. Pass as you say, look, the weather not great, but it certainly won't dampen anyone. Anyone, anyone's spirit in Quint given what you've just achieved. So look, congratulations again. And we look forward to having you on again to find out what new initiatives are happening.
