New studies suggest that teens are not getting the sleep that they need and the usual suspect screen time is not the only culprit. Our medical correspondent, Dr. Darian Sutton, is here to break it all down. I've got a teen at home and I guess we're understanding some of that behavior has reasons behind it. What are the researchers find? Some concerning findings and it's so important to understand. Stephanie and I were talking about this before the show started. Is it normal for teens to sleep in and the study shows that you probably should let them sleep in because this national survey that looks at over 120,000 students following them for close to 15 years found that eight out of 10

18:45teenagers are not getting adequate sleep, even more concerning one out of five, 23% are getting five hours or less. And as a physician, I have to tell you that this has medical consequences beyond just feeling tired when we don't sleep, especially when we're teenagers, that increases the disruption of hormones like serotonin and dopamine, increasing the risk of not only anxiety and depression, but also increasing the risk of obesity, diabetes and even high blood pressure. You know, I'm still hanging on what you said, let them sleep, you know, shout out to my parents because they did not let me sleep. So all the parents out there, not just of teens, but younger children. What should they know? What recommendations do you have? Well, in terms of the causes, you know, when we look at phones because I know that that's a hot topic, teens are holding them, everyone's holding them. And you wonder if that screen time is increasing the risk when you look at those studies, which were also done in the same time period. It was found that specifically using your phone was associated with later bed times and also using your phone in bed. I think almost everyone is guilty of this or linked to worse quality sleep. Now, again, why is that so important? Hormones like insulin, grellin, which makes us more hungry as well as again,

19:49serotonin and dopamine can negatively affect us. And as far as how much sleep we need, it's more than you'd expect. For high school students, eight to 10 younger ages, nine to 12 babies and toddlers up to 17 hours. Now, that includes naps, of course, but it's really about making sure you're paying attention. And I think of all of these things that we can do, these studies show that focusing on that 60 minutes before your bedtime is really key here. That hour before bed is so important to adjust your brain, not just for kids, but also for adults. And let's stick with teens. Our teen gets plenty of sleep. We always try to stick with that eight to 10 hours, no phone for him. But for those parents that are concerned that their teen isn't getting enough sleep, that they're getting five or less hours, what are the signs that they're at a real health risk? Yeah, there's some red flags that you want to pay attention to. Some of them are not as easy to distinguish. For example, irritability. I know when I was a teenager, it was my baseline. So it's hard to distinguish between what is normal and what isn't. But if you're glad you came around, I figured it out. Yeah. But if you, if you notice falling grades, falling asleep in class or even symptoms

20:50of hopelessness and also physical symptoms, if your child or teenager is complaining of frequent headaches, if you're noticing that their weight is going up abnormally and during their checkups or if their blood pressure even is increasing, those are signs that you need to seek out assistance and get a formal evaluation by a pediatrician. Yeah. And it makes sense. They need this sleep. They're still developing. Their brains are still developing. So important for growth, thank you, doctor, as always. 22:57Welcome back. Haley Bieber is revealing new details about her pregnancy. The wife of Popstar Justin Bieber is talking on a podcast about the genetic condition that she says has made her pregnancy high-risk. Lera Spencer has those details. Haley Bieber opening up about a genetic condition she was born with that could have put her at a higher risk for miscarriage. The 29-year-old who gave birth to baby boy Jack Blues with husband Justin Bieber in August of 2025, revealing on the GMD podcast, which is co-hosted by her OBGYN, Dr. Tais Ali Abadi, that she was born with a moderate uterine septum. So I had like a septum in my uterus and Dr. Haley kept saying, well, we need to look at this and keep an eye on it before you get pregnant because it could potentially be an issue I don't really know. We got to see I might have to give you like a small surgery for it, not sure. And I was like, okay, well, I'm not thinking about getting pregnant right now. So we'll just, we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

23:58And then I magically got pregnant. A uterine septum is an abnormality where the uterus is partially divided by a wall of tissue. It affects about 2% of women of reproductive age and is associated with miscarriages, preterm birth and other complications. And the worst part, many women, are asymptomatic. Yours was moderate and so the risk for her was about maybe 25 to 40% risk of miscarriage. And a 10 to 20% risk of preterm delivery. Which I think was like our bigger scare. Scare because we realized like as the baby was growing like the septum, it was, you know, expanding. Everything was opening and doing what it needed to do. You can have many risks associated with it. And that's why it's important to diagnose these things early before your patients get pregnant. I think it should be mandatory for all women to have a pelvic ultrasound, at least at the least before they start trying for pregnancy.

25:02And Bieber has been really outspoken about this and open about many of her health battles, including having a mini stroke when she was just 25 and the small hole in her heart that she was born with that didn't close. Baby Jack, though, is turning to this summer stuff. Jack Blue, right? Love that name. Yes. All right, let's shift to spring. Are we ready for spring? Oh, yeah. That's been right. We've been ready. So my famous trademark potting party, it happens four times a day, 11, 12, 30, three, 30, and five p.m. and this year, we actually are doing an interactive hands-on in total floral class, where we teach you basic principles. But there's also container gardening class, where of course, we were talking about this, where they learn how to do beautiful container gardens and make and take that home with them, right? It's so good. And I know you great, everybody. So they come in wanting good grades. We do great. I roast them every year and they just come back for more and bring their whole family so their family can get better. It's time for me to get roasted and graded, so we need me through it. Let's see what we're doing. We're going to start by actually getting some of these stems in. So what you're doing here is basically what we call hiding the mechanics.

27:05So go all the way around ginger and just kind of like just stick them in there, okay? And get it, because there's not, there's not one way. It's obviously subjective. Exactly. So yeah, there are a few flowers, like let's say if you were to put in high ascents or daffodils with other flowers, they release a type of sap that actually clogs up the stem for certain flowers. Okay. So you actually have to prep them in a certain way where you literally can soak them overnight

28:07or some and they will do better with certain flowers. So that's a really great question. Beautiful. Okay. Now let me see. Huh? Okay, I've seen better, but that's okay. Now let's add something. I'm a veggie girl. Not a flower. Oh, you're going to be a flower girl after this year. We already talked about it.
