We do begin here with that breaking news overnight. The deal to end the government shutdown, the Senate approving a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security, including paychecks for TSA officers. Senior political correspondent Rachel Scott is at the White House with more Rachel. What's the latest? Well, wait, after 42 days of gridlock here in Washington, and after seeing so much chaos at airports across the nation, this is now a critical step toward

1:03ending this partial government shutdown. The Senate passing this bill overnight. So what is in this deal? It funds most of the Department of Homeland Security, but it excludes additional funding for ICE and parts of border protection. Now Democrats have refused to fund those key divisions until Republicans agree to forms that they want to see, including making sure that ICE agents can no longer wear face masks and also requiring them to wear body cameras. They got none of those policy proposals in this actual deal. Of course, they were under immense pressure to strike a deal as we've been seeing. Those long lines at airports across the country, so many TSA workers going without pay, many calling out sick, some quitting their jobs all together. But now this partial government shutdown should be coming to an end, hopefully, within a matter of days with. So Rachel, what comes next here and how quickly could these TSA agents start getting paid? Yeah, it's not a light switch with. So the Senate has passed this bill and now heads over to the House, and then it's going to have to be signed by the

2:04president. But of course, so many TSA workers have quit their job during this partial government shutdown. So many also calling out sick, so many lawmakers worried about the overall impact that this could have. But once the partial government shutdown is over, we should see airports start to return back to normal quite quickly with. Okay, Rachel, hopefully this is the beginning of some improvement to come very soon. Yes, indeed. And we're going to go now to the latest on that situation with the TSA lines at airports around the country. Senior National Correspondent, Steve O'Sonsami is tracking it all from Atlanta. And Steve, I have to say I was through JFK yesterday, total chaos there. But everyone working did a tremendous job. It's nice to see you in Atlanta. Absolutely, you know, we need to thank all of these TSA workers who have been working for free. Good afternoon to you, Rebecca. I want to tell you that, you know, we're seeing the pattern today that we've seen every day this week. This mad crush here at the World's Busiest Airport here in Atlanta that starts at around 5.30 a.m. ends around 7.30. Then it looks

3:06like it does behind me right now, where a wait that was an hour to two hours just to get to the front of the line. Now you can get through security at the World's Busiest Airport in just a few minutes. Some of the longest lines that we've seen are in Houston at Houston Intercontinental Airport, where there are lines that are stretching for hours and they're having an energy convention and two college basketball games that are bringing a lot of people to the city in Houston, New Orleans and Atlanta around four out of every 10 TSA workers without paychecks aren't coming to work. The New York City airports, Baltimore and Philadelphia aren't that far behind. The lines in Houston are so long that they're asking TSA workers from Dallas to head down to Houston to help them out. And those ICE agents that we've been talking about all week who the president sent to the airports who many passengers who've been going through the airports have been seeing walk around. Some of those ICE agents have now been trained and we are seeing them here at this airport, for example,

4:07checking IDs and helping move people through baggage checks. I mean, it's just incredible that TSA agents from Dallas are now heading into Houston that just gives you a sense of the scope of the situation our thanks to Steve Olson. Thank you, Steve. And now we turn to March Madness and the first four teams advancing to the men's elite eight will rive is here with last night's action on the court. Well, I'm so glad I don't have a bracket because it would have been busted. Everybody's in flames except for one kids in Pittsburgh who I'm going to get to in just a second. But we did have some great games last night. We're halfway to the men's elite eight four games last night. One of them was a thriller. Two seed Purdue holding off 11 seed Texas tray, Kaufman, Ren. You see him there tipping in the winner in the final seconds. The unbelievable move there. You got to follow up the shot. Get the rebound with 1.2 seconds left. There you go. Elsewhere number one seed Arizona dominated Arkansas. Illinois knocking off last years runner up Houston. And then how about Iowa? They're nine seed and they

5:11came out on top in the corn versus crop. Go down against Nebraska. Iowa is into its first elite eight and 39 years. The shout out to coach Ben McCollum. He was coaching division too. Just a couple years ago, he wins everywhere that he goes. And we've got some banger men's games on the slate tonight. St. John's against Duke. Michigan State Yukon. Those are the highlights. The winners of those games will play each other. And then the women's tournament sweet 16 begins today momentarily on ESPN. We've got Notre Dame Vanderbilt starting us off all the way to Duke LSU in the night cap. A great slate there on ESPN. And someone who will be paying attention to the women's games is the eighth grader from Pittsburgh. He currently has a perfect women's bracket. Is the only officially recognized perfect bracket out of 41 million men's and women's brackets created the best part is he admittedly doesn't know much of anything about basketball. Just released research finds that staying active through middle age could cut a woman's risk of an early death in half and our chief medical correspondent Dr. Teran Arula is here with more. It's great to see you as always and this is really something this research is saying you got to get out there and have exercise in your life. It's especially in midlife. Yes. This was an Australian study of about 11,000 women. They started following them around the age of 45. They followed them for 20 years and over that time frame they surveyed them about nine times about how often they met the recommendation of 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous physical activity. They found that those women who were most consistent

8:19with meeting the recommendation reduced their risk of dying early by about 50%. Wow. They also saw that pattern when it came to cardiovascular death and cancer death but it wasn't significant but they did see that signal and similarly they leaned a little bit more information they said about whether these benefits start if you start exercising later around 55, 60 or 65. So we don't have that information but very interesting findings. It is very interesting. What types of activity are we talking about? What do you recommend? So they kind of break it down. In this study they looked at moderate to vigorous and so moderate they defined as a brisk walk, a light cycle, light swim, maybe a little bit of an easy dance class, even social tennis. Vigorous was more like running, competitive sports, aerobics and then maybe more advanced or hardcore cycling or swimming. In general they talked about 150 minutes a week of moderate to vigorous. What we recommend at least as cardiologist is 150 minutes a week of moderate or 75 minutes a week of vigorous cardio aerobic activity. I think one question that a lot of people have, if they haven't been

9:20active most of their lives, is it too late to start and really where do you begin? It is never too late and so even though this study had a question mark around what are the benefits of you start later there's other research that does show benefits to starting later in life in terms of health and so I always tell my patients it's never too early and it's never too late to start with something you love to do that you feel comfortable with and then build up from there. Yeah and you got to imagine there's the physical but there's mental benefits as well that also pay off. Take the first step but sometimes tricky too. Completely. That's right. That's why you got to find something like to do that you're going to stick with. Or find a partner. Or find a partner. It's motivating you. Or a like you. We're back at Dance Class is my thing. In an effort to reduce screen time, more and more people are trying what's being called nothing-maxing to give their brains a little bit of rest. And we'll gans us here with the details on that I love this idea. I'm a pro. It's the concept new, maybe only to the tick-chop generation. Three years, Italians have referred to it as indulge part miente. It's a phrase and a philosophy that means the sweetness of doing nothing. But of course, we Americans do it a little differently in our own way. We've got the show about nothing Seinfeld as our model. Are you going to take a nap? No. It's a concept Seinfeld first introduced us to 30 years ago. They're just going to sit there staring at the back of the seat. But what drove Julia Lewy-Dreyfus crazy then? It's it. I can't take it.

18:48Is now trending to the max on social media. It's called nothing-maxing. Content creators making the deliberate decision to unplug, giving their brain time to do absolutely nothing. Day like one, two, and three. For the first like 30 minutes, my mind is like racing. I'm thinking about everything that I need to do. But honestly, on day four, five, and six, it started to get easier. There comes a point, probably I'll say in like 20, 30 minutes in, and you kind of feel a lot of your muscles. Let go. Searches on TikTok for how to enjoy being busy doing nothing, spiking more than a thousand percent this week, joining the latest in a line of maxing trends from fiber-maxing. But this is for my tried and true fiber girls. To sleep-maxing. Watch how much your sleep quality just skyrockets. Even yogurt-maxing. Yogurt is not a phase. It's a lifestyle. But what is maxing anyway? Most simply, it means maximizing. To go all in on a lifestyle or activity.

19:51But nothing-maxing, which has also been dubbed modern meditation, is a trend that experts agree can be quite healthy, helping reduce depression symptoms, cutting the risk of heart attack and stroke, and training your brain to be less reactive under pressure. Your thoughts are clear. You're leaving space to have that clarity. So you saw a little bit of it in the piece there. I gave nothing-maxing a try for myself. I actually found an empty dressing room here in the building, put 15 minutes on the clock. When I first sat down, I was maybe stewing about a work situation. But when the timer went off, I was in a much more manageable, emotional spot proof that the more time I put between a stimulus and my response, the better. An expert say that a practice like this one helps people new to nothing-maxing feel less stressed and less anxious. What about some of the seated positions you're in there? I have four. 25:57The Hoover Dam, Becky, this shot is so cool with you standing in the middle of it. I mean, Rebecca, this is just a marvel of modern engineering. And there's so much history behind the Hoover Dam that I knew nothing about. But it is a testament to Nevada's people and its place in the West. Rising 726 feet over the Nevada and Arizona border, a cultural icon cemented in Hollywood films like Superman, Transformers, and who could forget this moment in Vegas vacation? No, there's no door that falls out of the side of the face of the dam. This is the Hoover Dam. With the Colorado River's catastrophic and unpredictable flooding in the 1900s, Americans in the Southwest needed help.

26:58So in 1921, Herbert Hoover proposed a dam. Fast forward nearly a decade later, and construction begins, bringing 21,000 men to the area outside of Las Vegas to build this now-American icon. Hoover Dam symbolizes, really symbolizes America's pride and strength. Each state had supplied materials to the dam construction from their specific state. This is like America's dam. With it, a light in the Great Depression. The impact that the dam has for day-to-day life is it's really about that water, first and foremost, is allowing us to deliver water to over 20 million people for that use in about a million acres of farmland. Matter of fact, about 80% of winter vegetables come from irrigation from the Colorado River for all of the United States. The amount of concrete in this colossal structure is enough for a two-lane road stretching from Seattle all the way to Miami. 90 years later, the Hoover Dam remains an engineering marvel, trying four million tourists a year.

27:58We're about 300 feet underwater of the lake. GMA's cameras invited behind the scenes where only a few have ever been. Right now, about 3,000 cubic feet per second of water is flowing underneath my feet down to the generators. And there's about 905 gallon buckets worth of water passing under my feet every second. Right now, heading towards our generator since generate power. That water flowing into this room full of turbines to spin the shafts for power. It's spinning what's called a rotor, and on the ends of the rotor are a bunch of magnets. It's taller than me. Those magnets spin past a copper bar and that's what generates electricity. That rotor weighs about a million pounds and it's spinning at 180 RPMs. So the power's going into the grid. It's a California Nevada and Arizona power customers. It's about enough power for 300 to 350,000 homes a year.

28:58Crazy fact about this dam. At the base, it's 660 feet wide. That's two football fields of solid concrete. We did have to go all the way down and into the innards there just to use the bathroom. I mean, it does have some inner workings there, but it's incredible. It tapers up at the top, 700 feet up. It tapers up to still, only 45 feet wide. Guys, the scope of the engineering, this project, it really is an incredible testament to human innovation and what this country is capable of. It certainly is back. Thank you for taking us inside. For nearly 40 years, their prestigious Disney Legend Award has been given to a select few who've made an indelible mark on the Walt Disney Company. This is the company's highest honor. And on Thursday, Ryan C. Cress revealed the 2026 honorees, which include ESPN anchor Chris Burman, producer Jerry Brookheimer, actress Susan Egan, animator Eric Goldberg, actress and half the way, Imagineeer Kim Erwin, actor Duane Johnson, musician The Jonas Brothers, songwriter and actor Lynn Manuel Miranda, actor Alan Tudyk, and of course, the man at the Walt Disney helm for more than two decades, former CEO and chairman Bob Eiger. This award, a storybook ending for Bob's journey at Disney, his final chapter closing last week if he handed over to CEO Rain the just tomorrow.

31:00Thank you for the trust you placed in me, for the memories we created together, and for allowing me the honor of serving. It has meant more to me than I can say. You found a give it up for Bob Eiger. Bob's illustrious career began right here at ABC News more than five decades ago. I started at this company as a studio supervisor, working on shows like AM America, which is the precursor to Good Morning America, and ABC Sports, and a lot of other things, never expecting that I would end up having the opportunity to run one of the greatest companies in the world. A visionary at his core, Bob helped the company sort a new height, welcoming Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox to the Disney family. No, family, we're done the most years.
