Breakfast with Gary and Tim. It's all right. Hello everyone, welcome. It is the 15th day of September. It's great to have you with us and we can't wait to connect. As we always do here, I've fought over 390 in 2016. 1 through 17, 3 through 6, 7 through 6, 7 and 7 Edmund. Locked and loaded. A massive four or five days of sport that we've got to continue to unpack. Questions to that, notice the rambles are often running things. We are great friends at Cobber Estate and we's in the building.
Tim, the Whistwatch. I know I was supposed to. Good morning, Gary. Good morning everybody. And a belated happy birthday to you too. How did it all go on Sunday? Nice. Yes. You had a nice big day. Nice celebration. Yes, I cooked some steaks on the new webber. Oh. And I don't profess to be a great outdoor chef like you. But nailed them all. Did you? Yep. What was your technique? Well, I had some scotch fillets that I did but I also had this beautiful whole piece of eye fillet that I just see it on the webber. Then I seasoned it generously, wrapped it in some foil, put it in the oven and then took it out, took the foil off here in another couple of minutes and it came up or the blush, the blush, buttery. Sounds magnificent. How many people's were your thoughts? Sweet with the rosemary and butter. A little bit of copper, a little bit of mist. A little bit of copper, a little bit of copper. The copper must have run out too, Brentos. It wouldn't mind a package. There was no, in the end there was a dozen or more.
Right. Age brackets up and down. Ah, from little tiny little kiddies. How old were the little kiddies? Not the youngest would have been too. Oh, was there no meat for them? No. There's a couple of balloons. A couple of balloons. Just a few balloons. Well, you kept them occupied for about three hours. With your balloon trick. Blow the balloon up and let it go. It's up in the sky. That was a win at two hours. It doesn't take much, does it? It doesn't take much. It doesn't take much at all. So, did you have a nice weekend? At a very nice weekend. It's over in Perth. Oh, here about this. So, that was a long, long trip. We left Thursday morning, got back Saturday lunchtime for a game of foodie. But worth it. That's a big trip. How did they receive you over there? Because you've been very, very critical of free man over the last six months. You know I haven't. But they seem to think I've been... What happened to you? No, no lady at the New Asians gave me some pretty upfront feedback. Thought I'd be on the free, on the Fraud Office. What did she say? I said, I'd travel over to the goddamn joint. Went and stayed there for two days and embedded myself there.
Why are you an ambassador for? Adopted Josh Tracy before he knew who he was. Picked the perfume, read, picked the eyes out of him. Anyway. No, that was great. Perth was great. I love going over there. It's just too far. Yeah, my spires over there said that you weren't necessarily happy with your room over there. Did you have to change a couple of times? What was up with... What was up with the first one? Loud fridge? Why don't you travel with noise cancels or something? Didn't even unpack my bag on that one. I just walked in and went and went and went and went to another nice room and was quiet. And stayed, slept that night, went out and for a walk and came back. And there was something out there that was like some sort of construction work. So, I'd have to move again. So, hang on. This is the same hotel. You moved three times. Three rooms. Right. How do you reckon you'll be received next time you go back in? No, big tick. Right. Massive tick. Did you get right to review? Because the guy who came in, the mullmate, the Teco, Gary Lyne, my favorite player.
Did you demon hand? I said, I'm very nice here. It's fun, Starr. I just got an issue with the fridge. He said, wait, I just went too loud. Right, if that's the case. I fixed it. Or was that the second room or the third room? That was the first. Right. And then you like the three beers. The verde. Goldilocks, you know. The virgin need to, this is some free advice for Perth Virgin on the way home on Saturday morning. Seven o'clock flight. So, it was in there at six to go into the queue to go through the security. Massive line at the door. Fortunately, I was at my virgin memberships and I went up the other side. Oh, you bypassed everybody? They had one screening door open. Yeah, not good enough. At one time. Not good enough. There's 60 people and people trying to get flight. So, and then they're trying to say, well, and fair and ugly, let those people in. And then the baggage just carousel just got loaded and loaded and loaded. I said, what's going on?
I said, Brooklyn. What? I said, what? I said, how come you, there was three other people at the, sitting in front of their monitor, just looking at staring at someone. I said, what have you got the breakfast? Right. That's what you mean. They're all breakfast. Breakfast. Yeah, they're all breakfast. I said, what about the 60 people trying to get through and catch it? He said, breakfast. There'll be a wanted poster up over there in Perth. No one will want to do this with you. You've complained about the hotel. I've been complained. You've complained about the news agent. Not even complained about the news agent. Now you've complained about their airport. You're only the idea today. I'm complaining about damn Strater. I complained about that airport. That was the size for business. I went with the hotel. With the hotel. With the hotel. With the hotel, did you put the jiffies on? Did you walk around bare feet or not? I did. Right. No, I would. I did. You know that you got to do that when you go to hotel. Did Nikki want to put you through some sort of a sheep? Something like that before you came back into the house when you got back into the middle.
I made a real mistake when they have put my suitcase on the bed. That mighty house that we got burned down. No, he didn't invite me to his birthday. In fact, he ghosts me on his birthday. I saw him a nice text message in the morning with a lovely couple of emojis, which he'd never seen before. I sent you back a message. And then I asked him what he was doing for the rest of the day because I'd gone and bought some extra bits and pieces. I was going to invite him over. I missed that one. I was... I was... I'm not upset about it. And I was happy with your family. And you were down. You were down the shore. I was in town. I thought you were down. No, no, that was all in town. Oh, okay. And the foot he was great. The foot he was... Oh, yeah. Oh, that game always. One game was great. That game was... That game, which you longed for. Yeah, the game was over in four and a half minutes. Yeah, that was... That was... But you were the game that you watched. Yeah, that was... That had a little bit of everything. It was... A little bit of everything. Urb. I was texting you when I was at the NFL game. Oh, how'd you go with that? I was great. It looked great on the TV.
It was unbelievable. Unbelieveable. Did you get experience? Did you get experience? No, I pushed ahead. I didn't see him in the spot that I was in. I met a lot of other people. I reached out to a good... Well, I had a good chat to... I had a good chat to reach it from Ty Power. Oh, he's talking about... He was a great man. He was a great fellow. And he was... Because I said, look, business... He had a big smile on his face. I said, well, that bit because of all the pardols. Business couldn't be... I said, don't... I'm not laughing. I'm not laughing about it. I joked then, but I shouldn't have given the circumstances. No, but... And he said, oh, you got no idea what's going on out there at the moment. I said, I do. There's pardols everywhere. And he said, yeah, we're very, very mindful of that. And we're helping people out as much as we possibly can at Ty Power because we believe that far too many people are coming back in here because of the damage to their tyres. Yeah. That's a disgraceful set of circumstances that came to a tragic head on the weekend. But just a note for you, because I know you don't use public transport.
I took the train into the MCG on Friday, Gary. And it is the most beautiful experience. You'll hop on the train. I beg your pardon. It is the most beautiful experience. Well, yeah, down in Trinidad. No, it's the most beautiful experience. Beautiful. It's not the way I've ever heard anyone describe our public vehicle. Well, listen to me. Listen to me. Okay, because the experience of going to a game, like so many people experience waking, waking up begins the moment you get to the station. You look around, everybody's got their gear on. There were people at the station I hopped on. They all had their NFL gear on. They hopped on the train. They're happy. You could hear the noise. You're different talking about it. And then post game, I came back on the train. I sat opposite a lovely couple, a husband and wife. They'd burnt to the game. I said the NFL fans, they said, no, this is the first game we've ever seen. Not different. See, different. Not the first game we've ever burnt. IFL fans, I bow for the bombers. First game they'd ever been to. No, I know that. And they said they were south of the world. Definitely be back again next year.
They said it was the most wonderful, beautiful experience that they've ever had. The train was a train. Clean. The train was magnificently clean. Is it on time? It was on time. Did you Mikey honor off? Yes, I did. I did you? I did. Who, do you got your Mikey card? Have you? Yes, I've got a Mikey card. I can show it to you if you want. I think I've got about 46 dollars still. Credit on my card. Everything was seamless getting into the ground, getting out of the ground. There wasn't, I went to buy some merch, not a stick of merch available there. Everything was sold out. They were cleaned out. Well, give us your experiences with the NFL and the game. As I said, it looked magnificent on the Teeve. Were you a little bit jealous when I kept sending you stuff and talking about it or not? A little bit. Because they looked unbelievable. It was a beautiful time. We are skydiving. It's been tacky a lot. I will say this though. If you don't mind me saying this. Go ahead. I think the sizzle's better than the sausage. The game, I would agree with that.
Our game, our game of NFL football, and we are boss, but I still believe it is the best game of football of any kind in the world. NFL football. And it's a long way in terms of a game. I think it's a long way ahead of the NFL game. But the experience, this was like the AFL Grand Final on steroids. Yeah. This game experienced it. They're built up. The sizzle. It was, yeah, but during that, not just that, during the game too. But the game's not, all the other stuff is what I'm talking about. The actual game is... Well, no, the game. No, I love the game. I love the game. But in terms of a game where you're going to be, you know, entertained from, you know, the opening to the end, there's a lot of downtime. There is a lot, a lot of downtime. But that downtime is filled. That's what they do. They fill it with entertainment. With sizzle. Yeah, exactly. But the sizzle was great. That's as I said, the sizzle has been in the sausage. I don't know that, and I want,
we need to start a campaign right now to get people when they go to the MCG. Oh, we try. But this year's Grand Final. We tried this. I want everybody to do what they did at the NFL game on Friday. And when the national anthem is played, sing it along with whoever it is that is performing the national anthem on the New York top of the old Yankee Patriotism. Hey, there's nothing. That is the part of the Yankee Patriotism that I actually love. Oh, how long have we been telling people to sing the national anthem at that game? And either Anzac Day or whenever it's around. Yeah, but you haven't got any traction. I know that. Well, I'm saying that we try and get traction between them and the traction. Well, let's see if we can't get some traction happening. Get four people singing. Now everyone's going there singing. Because from memory, the American national anthem was played. And it sounded like there were plenty of Americans there singing. So our people then went, oh, she's saved, don't we? We would have a great. That's exactly what happened.
That is precisely what happened. So maybe on Grand Final Day, we tried out the American anthem first and then we moved into the Australian anthem. American anthem at Grand Final Day. And then they sang horses. You know, the Darrell Braithwaite's. The whole crowd was singing that. And then Johnny Farnham, you're the voice. Oh, it's true. It was magnificent. Did they sing Neil Diamond? They were brought to Teeteraglass. Oh, the whole experience. And then Neil Diamond was, and I reckon, I don't know. I don't know how many people from America they said were at the game. I might have thought there was about a third of the crowd that actually traveled to Australia for the game. Do you think that? I reckon there might have been 30,000 odd Americans there on Friday.
Craig has pulled me up and said, guess how can you forget our great sizzle at our Grand Final? The halftime sprint. Yes. How would the halftime sprint stack up with what the Americans do? I don't want to discredit anybody. I think we can do better. I really think that we can do better. I hope that there are a lot of AFL people there on Friday. And they may have got some ideas about the way that needs to be executed. I beg the differ. I think said that. I don't think the AFL taken anything away from the US other than the fact that it was burning in a mighty big inconvenience for them. I tell you what, they've dodged a ball. They've dodged a major ball. There is no way known that they could have turned that around in 24 hours and had no AFL game there on Saturday without keeping the same turf in the ground. Yes. It's been replaced now. I don't know. They had a painted off. I don't know what they would have been able to do but it would have been an absolute shot fight.
We said the same, Mitchell. You got any concerns about playing on the MCD this week? He goes, not so much this week. In other words, how do we have to play the day after in Mottabana? I cannot see. I think they actually did sort of like a dummy run on it to see whether or not they would have been able to do it. And my male is that they realise that it couldn't have been done. It could not have been done in that time frame. Dennis is in Perth. He says I'm sounding precious. Just relaxed and just take a little bit of humor with the way it's intended. I know, person, not the end of the world. What you can see it from there? It's a long trip from my dad. Yes, it's relaxed. Thank you to upset. I love your city. I think it's a beautiful, beautiful place. I think you got put out. I think that you thought you'd done a lot of hard yards for the people of Perth over there. You're an ambassador for the new stadium. You're an ambassador for free, man. We get Mottabana with a lot of whistko's. I got a bunch of free man on me. You got over there. And they gave you the cold shoulder because you want to send one sentence critically
about the free mental doctors, which they've all hung onto. And they will forever too, but why they won't? They'll understand. It was fantastic. And what about this weekend, the game on Friday night up in Sydney, free mental and the Sydney swans will be a belter. And then, 515, the starting point for future grand finals. Let's make no mistake about that. 515, 25 degrees on Saturday for the hawks and the Brisbane Lions at the Mecca. What a day. That will be. What a day. Is Garri and Sydney and Millie sold out of the G. Garri and the front and center. I'm done Saturday, yeah. They'll be Saturday, twilight. Magnificent. They will add all the biggies, don't they, for the MCG games. It'll be beautiful. It'll be, you're going to go. That's one you nearly go along to. No, no, no, no. I'll be happy to sit that out and just watch it from the catch. All right, I've got a lot of time to start. I've just sent you text messages throughout, which you don't respond to anymore anymore. A couple of, I don't know. I don't know. You should listen to a couple of them
because they're very good text messages. I do. I don't know. You forgot to insert into the coverage. Well, in fact, I'll tell you what, when we come back, I'll get to ask you a serious question about whether or not Fox Football Commentary has been got out by the AFL. Okay. On the other side of the break. Breakfast with Garri and Sydney. The Rambler for Cobber Mustay. Australia's most awarded extra virgin olive oil. Rone, harvested and first cold pressed in Northern Victoria. Great to have you with us this morning. Text messages are flying. All of them good-natured, not the couple of ordinary, but that's fine. None of them are abusive because from now on, I might just call the abusive's out. Given what we saw on the weekend, we're there cowardly pig that texts that message or however you've got that message through to Jordan Dawson. These gutless cowards that sit in front of their keyboards. We, and we, and this is the best example. We can have great discussions via social media here. And you don't have to agree and you can be angry and you can be disappointed
and you can do whatever it is. But don't, if you tip over into some of the gutless cowardly abuse, and it has happened here previously, we've had to ban some people. That person's going to get his ride up, come up. Well, I think he already has. He's been named and shamed and he's been flushed out. He's been exposed. And that's exactly what you need to do with these cowards. Well, the only one who think that they can hide behind a keyboard. Sorry, sorry. There's only one way that they can't redeem himself. He should stand up in front of the media and just say, I am exactly what is wrong with this world in terms of social media. I accept that I've been an absolute pig. I've put myself out for everyone. I'm a Jordan Dawson. That is the only way otherwise, the unemployable, you're the end. That's the end here. Yep. No, I agree with that. I agree with that. And do you know that we all have an algorithm associated with our phone now, right?
So you can also listen in and I'm very tech savvy, as you know. So I actually have insight information from a good mate. I won't expose him, but his initials are EM. And he says that 98% of people when they're watching a live football event sit there with their mobile phone, which they were on Friday night. And I asked him for the reading on that. Those people that were sitting there with their mobile phone, and they saw the Dempsey non-goal decision. How many of those people thought that it was a goal? And he told me 98.5% of people sitting watching their TV is on Friday night saw that. And my question to you then, I needed to set it up properly because my question to you is, you and your members of the commentary team on Fox didn't go very hard on the fact that it was a goal. And I want to know why I have the AFL gotten to you and said to make sure that you are only very mild in your criticism of the umpires and the game.
No, and not so hard. So why didn't you not go hard? Well, once the soft course, mate, I thought it was very hard to overrule it. And I still think that's the case. It's not a bad overruling. And it's just saying that you thought it was a goal. And you didn't say that you thought it was a goal. Well, maybe, and you know that we're not in charge of the pictures that go to here, maybe the pictures that went to where a minute and a half after the first showing of it, and which I then looked at and thought, oh, that looks like a goal. Maybe we should have seen them at the time. Well, maybe we could have been. Who's in charge of that? Well, I don't, not us. I was watching the same pictures that you were watching up until that point when I inserted that other picture, which was even more conclusive. That's my point. But I had already established, as did 98.5% of the people watching it, they had the mobile phone by their side, they'd already established the fact that they thought it was a goal too. Throw it out there. How many people thought it wasn't a goal? See? No one. No one's responded. Not one person has responded and said that they didn't think it was a goal.
Yeah. It was as clear. It was as clear as it was kicking in danger. From George, it was kicking in danger. It was a big goal. That's what it was. It was unbelievable. That's a halor of a decision. And for the A-Fail to come out and say that they got it right. Come on, go. Well, going. This is what you're driving a witch between yourselves and all us other people out there who are lovers of the game. Yeah. Well, it's the A-Team. How many times has the A-Team got it wrong this year? You reckon. Do you think they should do what they do in cricket? And that is not make an unpowering decision at the time, either way. And then just allow the arc to decide based on the evidence that they have, whether or not the decision was right. Maybe. And I would like to know, I don't know. In fact, I do not know the answer to this. But are they encouraged to take the lesser if they're in any doubt? Or not? I don't know that to be true. I would think that that might be the case. That's right. Get rid of the soft call. Let's just get rid of that soft call. Now I'll be happy with that. I would be happy with that. Yeah, because there will be a, you know, it may happen this weekend.
It may happen next weekend or grand final weekend where a game is decided on something like this where by a lot of people watching the game believe that it was a mistake. I'm thinking of Christmas. Yeah, Jared's up in arms. Thank you 103. Yeah, well, I probably was moralising on the cowards in the keyboard. You might be one of them, maybe. But I stand by that and you'll never change my mind on that. If you think it's okay for that person to go after Jordan Dawson in that manner, then you're not really a part of our audience. I wouldn't have thought. Hey, for you question, why, and this came from our production team, not mine, why is everyone so, so much in such a rush to claim the underdog status? I think they're afraid to have any pressure on them that they contribute to in any way. It's a great point by Benji Boy. Why do you go? Actually had it written down to him. Oh, why? Anyway, go after yourself.
Why is, why is Justin Loving his son? Because he's a modern well-eared owner. This Fred to say, oh yeah, we're the underdog. We're clear underdogs. Why don't you say, no, no, we're on top of the ladder for a reason. Yeah, yeah. No, we were clearly the best team across the home and away series this year. We played the best football and I am absolutely and totally confident in our players going into this game that they're going to give an unbelievable account of themselves. Against the side that we'll be missing, you know, three, maybe four of their best, oh, five of their best starting 20. Yeah, I don't think you have to claim favoritism. No, you don't have to try and take the low ground. It's possible. Everyone's in a rush. Is Coxie taking it as well? He probably can. I haven't heard. I haven't heard him take it. I haven't heard Figgs or Sammy Mitchell take it. It's just, JL wants it. He clearly wants it. I don't think you need to come and say, oh, yeah, no, we're digit favorites for this. But don't go run under the, we're the underdogs because I don't think anyone's buying that.
No, one's buying that. No, and in fact, I think I'm buying this and I don't know whether you're buying it, but it will be an absolute stinker and a massive season failure if the three metal docus don't get into the at least, I'm not saying they have to win the grand final and the flag. But if they are not playing there on the last day in September, it is an absolute object failure. We're going to be, well, you make him big constatements and you may want to be a team English and Zach butters in the west of Bulldogs that not the footy world didn't take enough notice of. We're going to play that later. A sports update for Reem. Who's running hot with over 80 years of manufacturing hot water in Australia. It's got to be Reem. I'm getting into an argument with 103 who hasn't got a name, presuming that judge others 103, like you would know what went on. You have no idea, my friend. So I think anybody that might be out there supporting. I'm never going to attend. No, I'm going to send him off, I think. No, he got no idea what he's doing. I think there's a lot of people out there that engage in this same type of behavior as a non-immers
people and they then justify their own behaviors. And that's what's going on. They don't presume to know anything about anything 103. You wouldn't you would have no idea. Do you know champion data have got Isaac Haney as the top ranked player in the brand like this year. Bont is next. Ed Richards is next. Dacois is fourth and Max Gorn is fifth. Well, if that happens, you're in trouble. This is my bet, right? If Nick Dacois doesn't win the brand low, I am going to get a dozen Tomahorsk steaks from Butcher Club. I'm going to smother them with cover mist at Olive Oil. I'm going to strap them to my body. I'm going to walk through the lines and close the door. You're in trouble. You got your steak started out for the first time. I've started to get a little bit nervous. Because if you do make a big statement like that, you got to back it up. So Big Mick is saying your skating criticism on the keyboard was warranted,
but how is it any different? Well, I tell you, Mick, because everyone knows who I am, where I am, Mick and I stand by it. And if I go over the line, I'll get sat, Mick. That's the difference. And so I'm prepared to put my name to it and I'm prepared to put my career on the line. But also, Mick, I don't know if you know what the statement was that was said. I don't know that Gary has ever said anything that evil about anybody else. No, I do. I absolutely. I'm pretty sure he hasn't. So come on, Mick. Gee, we've got some argumentative people. No, we've got some salty people too. We'll argue back. Oh, I'll argue back and stand my ground. Sydney said to make yet to make any selections calls for the prelim against Frio. So on's a macaroni, I think you'll come back. I'm Marty. I don't think you'll come back. But they're both available. Meanwhile, so on's have turned to veteran Dane Rampy to cap them. The premiership pushed with Captain Kellermill's sideline by Indry. The Eagles expect Harley Reed to be good for the start of the preseason after the best and first winner underwent shoulder surgery. Brisbane spearhead Logan Morris is an almost certain start of the lines
in their prelim final against Hawthorne on Saturday. But Defender Noah Anzworth faces Nupyle battle to reclaim his spot in the side. Is that because he won't be fit or he will be fit but then they'll be a spot for him? No, fitness. He, they're desperate for Indry play given his record on the wizard. So hope that he gets up. But not sure. Max McLean, he's facing a lead start the 2027. Got a one matchband for striking in that last game. So he'll have a slower start. The expectation for reagent, no, all this is kicking up in that Jordan Butts has got to nominate the dogs this week. But the five year deal worth around 700 to 750 if you want. Well unpack a heap of that sort of stuff after 7 o'clock this morning because there are so many different tentacles that are now hanging off this whole Zack butters deal. And the expect, sorry, Calccia Deere has met with Collingwood in addition to Melbourne as he weighs up his future. He's going to get insights on. Yeah, yeah. I'll never chat about that. No formal offer from the pies yet, Jolongs in the mix as well. Matthew Boyd said to be named as Jolongs head of development in 2027
has been vacant since Josh Fraser departed for Carlton 12 months ago. What's his name? The, oh, how am I? The Collingwood player who was retired due to concussion. Nathan Murphy. Yeah, he was doing some development stuff. He's gone up to the Gold Coast Suns with Pendery or Red. The Suns? Yeah. There's that story around about Alex Teru, too, which we'll talk about a little bit more after 7 o'clock this morning because there's your hot on this. Yeah, no, there's some parts of this that don't sit comfortably with me. I'm about this. George Stevens, Jolong and Trent Minot, Franksson, would join winners of the JJ Listen trophy as the best and finished last night former S and midfielder Benny Hobbs now put out Melbourne actually received the most votes on the night but was ineligible due to suspension. I'm lucky. George Stevens will be playing in that BFL Grand Final. They Jolong take on the Hawke. Steve Smith says that Steve Smith the cricket. I see he's got no guarantee to play next year's Asher series.
In England, revealing he's focusing on playing T20 cricket to give himself the best chance of playing at the LH20 28 Olympics. And live EPL this morning between Leeds and Newcastle, you're not up to 76 minutes. Leeds have a four-nil lead. I'm going to go out in a very, very frial in here and so they'll probably win. Yeah, for the Pullman hotel, for premium accommodation, it was busy on the weekend as well with the big NFL game premium accommodation spectacular views within steps of the MCG and Melbourne's event precinct. A sports news update for Club Token 1. Australia's Premier Murray River Golfing Destination. Talk to the golf package team today. Stunning new clubhouse now open. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. Talk to me. Talk to me. I love wanting to know conversation starters. Life's never flat when you power every moment with a Sydney pal down. Sydney.com. Pop it running. It's preliminary final week. And they are two of the best games of footies. Footy each year because it's probably the light we say this a little times. The last chance for the genuine footy lover to get tickets and go and cheer for their team. It's basically fans of both sides that fill the MCG or the SEG. 90 plus of the MCG. Yeah. Yeah. And what about your Kubota tractor? Have you picked that up yet or not? I've done a very good deal with Joe. Of course. I've tried it in the big tractor. And a slasher that I just had that I wasn't using and I'm getting a smaller one.
You're getting a smaller slasher? Yeah. Well, because it's a smaller tractor. I know that but a small tractor could also a big slasher. Yeah. Probably that's true. Did you ask him about that? No, I didn't. I'm getting it. Because you don't know how to change the beer. Slasher commensurate with the size of a tractor. Hey, the Zack Buddies just deal went down. They went down on Saturday morning. You came in here and had this to say last week. I spoke to somebody about this yesterday and the conversation went around Tim English and whether or not. And this person said that Tim English and the Bulldogs had an attitude towards Tim English that changed based on the fact that Zack Buddies had said that if he was going to the Bulldogs, he would want Tim English to be there as the Ruckbench. And do you teach the attitude of the Bulldogs, whether or not they trade Tim English, changed on the back of that information from Zack Buddies?
Well, based on the person that I spoke to, yes, there had been a change of attitude around that. Further to that, I found out later because you were right on the dollars. Further to that, I got a call from a journalist out there who shall remain nameless. And he said, it all makes sense now. He said because the Bulldogs came hard at me when I suggested that Tim English may have been on the trade table and they were very, very upset and angry that I had that publicly. Well, I don't, again, I don't play in the space. I just listen to the likes of you and Sam Edmund. But it did appear that there was, well, you know, does he go, does he not? He's wise, going to go to the Gid. There was, and then all of a sudden this definitive narrative came out. We wouldn't trade him for three first round picks. And now it all makes sense. It does. And I've got a mulch of pat, probably. Well done to the Bulldogs for playing out.
Oh, right. And we said it last week. In fact, I think I said it. Maybe not you, but you agree with me. You can't pay too much for great. You can't. And you quite rightly said to me, off the others' morning, wise words, they were. You said, you said, you said, there'll be a new broadcast rights deal in five years time. They'll be more money in the game. And what he's getting paid today will look like peanuts in five years time. Ever listen. I inserted the word peanuts. You didn't say that. The salary cap was 1.25 million back in the late 80s. It was by the middle of the 2000s. It was up to 12 million by 2022. I'll COVID and then by 2027, it's up to 18.4 million. Yeah. And if you add the marketing on top of that, it's around 20 million next season. So you wait by 2036 when Zach, Zach, those deal runs out. Oh my lord. The 1.8 won't seem as big as it was. Mm hmm. Oh no. Is that a Zach butter's alarm?
Is that your new sound effect for when you drop a big bomb? No, but I did. People are rightfully calling me out. They're saying that early in the year, I did say that it was going to Jolong. And in fact, a month ago, Jolong thought they had him too. Just on that. I know it sounds like your retro feeding, but that is, that is, well, it all will be revealed in time. In the forms of time. Hopefully our men will reveal it to us. How this all played out. But I think the Jolong Fudicale were very, very, very confident. Don't you think this is great for the game, though, that Zach butter's decides that he's going to the book. And no disrespect to the Bulldogs, but they are one of the small Melbourne teams that he has chosen them above another team. Another big attempt. I think you're long a bit. No, what do you mean? That wouldn't have been great for the game if Jolong got him. No, not as great. No, not as great. That's my point. I think it's great that he's gone to the Western Bulldogs. And for the Western Bulldogs fans and the players they've got there currently,
capable of winning a flag that I can't say. I think it's great for the game that he's actually decided that he wants to go to the Western Bulldogs. No, I agree. And it's up to them now. Like, you know, he does take up a big percentage of their salary cap, maybe 11%, 12%, whatever it might be. But then it's up to them to be able to cobble together the rest of the team to be able to make themselves a premiership type team next season. Yeah. And, you know, with an ounce of luck, they're capable of doing that. And you manage your cap in such a way that you're front-end sum deals when you're having got the Superstars on your list. So you make sure that other players are getting more. And so Josh Kelly, Johnny Ralfe is reporting in the Harold Sun. That Josh Kelly's on $2 million this year. He didn't even play because his contract was back in. Because his million dollar deal contract was back ended and back ended and back ended. So look, it is a lot of money. It's a lot of money. It's a lot of money. And it is a big chunk of your salary cap. But that salary cap's going to continue to get bigger and bigger and bigger.
And whilst 1.8 million sounds, there's not that long ago that, you know, picket signed for 1.3 or 1.4 and we all went, what the hell? Well, not everyone. You know what I mean? So, and you do what you do. You've got to build. If you want to build the best house, then you keep paying and you're sorted out. And if you can't sort of out, you'll pay the price. And it's hard and tougher for some of these teams to assemble talent. And I think we've seen that with Sincura in recent times too. Like they went and paid a lot of money for deconing. Because they've missed out on a lot of other players. And to be competitive, you know that you've got to get as much talent into your club as you possibly can. They kept NAS on a $2 million a year deal, which is going to become the major talking point next season, where he's going to go beyond that. And don't forget for one second either. It is Ross Lyons last year of his contract, that's Sincura next year. And that whole conversation around, you know, Marshall going on whatever. What do you think Ross wants to do in his last year at Sincura, or the last year of his contract, that's Sincura?
When? Do you think he's coaching for the club's future? Or do you think he wants to win now? Well, he should be doing both. Well, you can do both. But I mean, what we've seen from Ross over the years, how competitive he is, I would think that he's trying... I would think that he wants to win a flag, like he wants to be a premiership coach before he goes out. So the other story, which is gathering traction everywhere. And again, I think Ralfey wrote this, or spoke about it last night, the backroom deals ban, AFL clubs warned against collusion ahead of the trade war. So, and then Tommy Morris on the agenda says, then went out and put together this deal that's got my head spinning. So I wait till Sam Edmund gets here, which concerns matching or not matching a potential deal. Right, so they get the compensation pick? Yeah, or they don't get the compensation pick, and what it looks like. And then now Todd Marshall's known to be thrown into the mix. And therefore, they take the compensation pick, and then they do a deal for Todd Marshall for pick 12 and a future first round. How do you reckon that washes? Well, I've got some strong thoughts on that. I know you have.
And we can talk... Why not, I disagree? I've got that after seven o'clock about that. You reckon that's fine? I'm aligning that with something else that's going on out there in the marketplace at the moment, which I find uneasy. I find it uneasy and... That looks terrible. An unpalatable, yes. Yeah, I agree with that. But you can have a kid out there who's in his second year of football, got another year on his contract to run. And we are just saying that it's okay that he's actually going and walking through other facilities, like he's tired kicking them to see whether or not that's where he wants to spend his next five years of his contract. Yeah. Well... That's unpalatable to the fans. There has to be... We're going to look after fans, Gary. That's what we have to look after in this game. Well, and the clubs are going to look after their young talent too. Hands off first year contracts. That's it. When you get drafted, you are drafted for two or three years. If you're an early pick, you get the three. That's it. You don't go on anywhere. You're tied to that club. And then it's incumbent upon the club to do the best job they possibly can to provide the environment
that says the kid doesn't want to go. If you're no good as a club, then by the end of the two or three year deal, then the kid will walk. And that's fair enough. But not halfway through. No, that's right. That is exactly right. And we need to... We need to have a... Let's have a good chat. We need to have a conversation. All right, let's do that after sitting. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. Tough, finals moments. Lover of strengths, built tough, grunt, nothing's tougher. Morning out of the middle today. Rock on the bus, steps back inside, gives it the call. Really from 55. He will. He can. He does. All matches don't allow it to all be the first intercepted captain since the last and he is doing it in style. All right, September to remember that one. You got to run yet or not? I think it's... Did you ever have a big September?
I think it's past. I think the 10-go weekends passed. With Nari a mention anyway. Not a single mention on this digging station that does 55 promos last week for nothing. It's like... The defiant on the producers was conspiring against me out there. I'll be talking to him when he gets home tonight. You're on the band list, I think. After seven, we'll go deeper on that. Alex, through stuff, it's stirred up a hornet's nest. And the trade stuff too. The trade stuff. The bulldozer. I've got Sam here. Potentially coming in as well. Is he coming in after seven? He comes in after eight. He'll fill us up with all that stuff. Done quite then. But we can talk about pre-linked finals. You can have a little look forward. Luke Jackson, Brady Grundy, on Friday night from a rucking point of view. Well, A it'll be pivotal to the outcome obviously. But those two bugs, Grundy over Jackson, who got that second Australian blazer all that stuff. Yep, then it's going to be match up. That is a great match up to look out for.
That one. But athletically, I don't think there's anyone athletically that can go with Jackson. Yeah, well, Grundy plays an athletic type of game. Yeah, good go. I don't know. He doesn't have the power. Like, he doesn't have the speed and the explosion off the mark that Jackson has. Stay with us. Been a super first hour by the Wispies on fire. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. The good oil for Cobbera mistake. Australia's most awarded extra virgin olive oil. Grown, harvested and first cold pressed in Northern Victoria. That's a great week. It is a great week of the footy year at the preliminary final week. And we've got two great preliminary finals. Friday night at the SCG, sell out already. So the swans take on the three mantle dockers and then on Saturday at about five, not about five, 15 at the mighty Homer football Hawthorne take on Brisbane who are attempting to do something that very, very few clubs have done.
And that is when three premierships on the bounce, having also lost. So for the fourth year in a row, they go in deep deep into another final series, which is quite extraordinary. It is, it is. Let's begin our discussion, though, with the proposal that was put up last night by Tom Morris. He's been talking about the fact that there's a deal effectively that hasn't been ticked off by the AFL yet. Let me just backtrack a little bit. So AFL are acutely aware of these potential backroom deals. And John Rales written this story in the held sound. The AFL will officially warn clubs about the penalties for collusion and secretly link trade deals that's put out in the Western Wood Rocks that haggling over a complex agreement. Excuse me. For Zach Barrow, as he goes on to quote, swanney, he said that any deals, swanney says any deal need to have fair value, although they will be rejected by the AFL and that they've sent letters to the clubs to that alluding to that. Okay, so their judgment on a fair deal will be...
Well, it's a bit... ...subjective. ...and spices, because we're still trying to... Exactly. So I'll put this to you because this is the deal that supposedly is in discussion at the moment between Port Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs. The Port Adelaide for Zach Barrow, as they take the compensation pick, which would be pick five, but they also do a deal... They don't match the bid. No, they don't match the bid. So they get the pick five, they get the compensation pick. And so therefore, they do another deal, which you'd have to say is associated with this deal. And that is they trade Marshall, who has an existing contract at Port Adelaide. Todd Marshall. So Todd Marshall for a pick 12 and a future first round pick, which they don't know where that future first round pick might land either by the way. So it may be that the Bulldogs go particularly well. It's next year's pick. They win the grandfile. And so it would be a late first round pick. That's right. So effectively... So if they lined up, if they lined up with pick 12 and say, let's just... They don't win the flag.
They finish in the top four. Let's say it's pick 16. 16 and 12 for Marshall. Do you think if anybody at the AFL sitting down, do you think that they would give that a tick? No deal. No deal why? Todd Marshall is not worth two first round picks. Sadly, he's been on the park. He's hardly been on the park for the last two years. And when he has been, he's been average. So would you say, would Gary Lyons say, not the AFL, would you say that that's collusion? Yep. And that's the manipulation of the deal. Yeah, so in the end. And therefore, you say it couldn't go ahead. No, that's right. So back you go, back you go to the drawing board and come back with a bit of deal or a more equitable deal. And again, can I just say this off the top? My head spins in this. I'm not good in this area. But on the surface of that, but it's so... That's all you need to do. Port out later getting pick five, pick 12, and a future first round pick. And they send Zack Murders and Todd Marshall to the Western Bulldogs.
Yeah, who wins? Oh, Western Bulldogs. So Petraca, for instance, Petraca, who went this time last year, he went for picks seven, pick eight, and their future pick, which turns out given they had a crappy year, there'd be picks six. He goes for, he's nearly 30. So, I don't know. Anyway, Todd Marshall's not worth two. But not every two round picks. Not every deal that's ever been done to you and I, or the rest of the football world, agree that it was a fair deal, or a right and proper deal. Now, this is a Jack Bos deal going way back. We're dealing along into that, getting Jack Bos, and the Golco sons were paying a part of his deal. So, I just want to get the salary off the books. And that's, I'm sure, that's what... That's the heart of this. It's to get Todd Marshall's money off. Port out later, those books, while they're in this stage of trying to regenerate and re- and go again. Well, this is a good point from Bodge out there, and Melton, too. Next year's pick, that first round pick might be pick 30 with Tazah coming into the competition.
So, you know, that becomes effectively a second round pick. Yeah, but it still... On today's value. Yes, but it's still a first round pick. Well, yes, but then you've got to look at it in detail. It's a second round pick. Yeah, if really. So, if it's pick 12 and a second round pick, would that move you a little bit more to the positive? No, because I'm not giving a first round pick for Todd Marshall in the first place. Which is pick, what is it, 12? What's that in? Okay, let's just try it out there. Text through, you can ring through any time you like. Do you believe that this is where the AFL, do you think the AFL would come down and not approve this deal? This particular deal... This may not be the deal that they ultimately construct, but this is what we're looking at right now. Yeah, I think that's a speculative deal. That goes across one of these deaths. Do you think it goes... Yes, or no, that's all you want to take through. Let's just get back to Alex Taroupe. So, I'm with you on this. I am, and you and I are both in the same opinion. If you are down the bottom of the ladder, or you get an early pick,
then you take a kid at pick one, or sorry, in the first round, they are then... They give a three-year contract. I think that should be non-negotiable off limits that player stays at that club for three years. And you as a club is incumbent upon you to be as good a club as you can be, develop the kid as well as you can, develop the relationship with the family, with whoever. So, by the end of that three years, halfway through the third year, there you go, I love this club, I want to stay here, let's sign for another five. Or by the end of that three years, the player is then entitled to go, look, I don't even feel comfortable. You haven't... I don't think you've coached me well, or developed me well. I think, yeah, facilities are subpar, your medical team's not work, whatever. At the end of that three years, he's entitled to go. Because I don't get the same way they go. So I think it is a big investment for the club. So Alex Teru to be touring another club, facilities, any second year as a first round pick.
I think that's got to be out, Lord. Yeah, it sits uncomfortably with me that they're able to do this. But did you have the same view about Horn, Francis, when he forced his way out of North Melbourne after one year? This episode is brought to you by TickTack. Lee Sup and Get Your Game On, because the TickTack lineup just got a new teammate. Dr. Pepper TickTack. This new double threat puts two of your favorite flavors into one box of mince. And when two iconic flavors come together, the result can only be iconic. Score big. Try Dr. Pepper TickTack today. Well, we're that strong on that. How about we are this? Probably not. I can't remember, but... So what was the circumstance within? He just didn't like the comic. We didn't want to be there. That was pretty much it. And they got two first round. I think we wouldn't have been as strong. I wouldn't have been, because they got two and three coming back the other way. Did they, which ended up being Sheasel and McCurcher? Yeah. I think it's different. You know, like Lockheed Neil,
I don't know that I didn't agree with the timing of Lockheed Neil touring, the Collingwood facility. But I think it's a bit different this situation when we're talking about a kid who has played nine-ing games at St. Kilda, has still got a year to run on his contract. And then he's... I'll cite flagrantly touring another team's facility. And they, the Gold Coast, are facilitating this tour of their facility. And probably other clubs now have the idea that maybe this kid is gettable. And the game accepts this. Now, I know this is not the NFL, but if this happened in the NFL, you, the player, would get an enormous fine. So too, would the club, who's trying to entice him, like it would be a massive fine. But for whatever reason, we don't care about this sort of stuff. But the, but the point of here is, the fan does. Like St. Kilda fans, we'll care about this because
what you have as a fan is the hope of the future and the optimism that you invest in your team, thinking that you are going to see some kid develop and become a star of your team one day. And this, and this kid to be able to do what he's doing, just is... It's a disgrace that we accept that this is the behavior that you can conduct. So the, if the NFL would have come out at the end of this trip here at all before the draft, and say, right, these are the rules. This is what's happening going on. You take a first round pick. He cannot leave your club for three years. In the story, whether he wants to go or whether you want to trade him. The J.A., the Horn Francis stuff in the end, it was a bit, well, an awful, quite happy to let him. Well, I'm trying to remember back. People will tell me differently, but it looked like a relationship had broken down from club and player, and the players were sort of half off him and wanting to go. And he wanted to go, and then they could get picked two and three, and they knew that she's on the kitchen. Whoever it was, the Salivan water. But we're, we're, we're a speculative of that.
Take all that off the table. So that's it. And, and, and, and 100%. We were enforcing to the point that if there is an approach made to one of these players in contract, whether it be for three years or two years, buy another club, whether it's direct, indirect or not, $500,000 fine and loss of first round pick. Yeah. Just go back. Bang. Yep. Yep. So then we're all clear. Yep. Alex Tarrou might not like being there. St. Kielner might be flushed over these lack of discipline. Whatever. He's there for three years. Work it out. Yep. Yep. And at the end of that period of time, at the end of the, of next year, towards the end of next year, if he still wants out of the club, then you can have those discussions. And look, I'm not stupid enough to not believe that, you know, managers are going to get on the phone and talk to football clubs and try and find out what market value, all that sort of stuff can happen. But I think it's completely different. They actually march into an opposition club and have a tour while you're currently contracted to another club. And you've got a whole one more, you've got a whole 12 months still to run on your contract.
Yeah. Now I'm with you on this. I'm with you on this. Let's Chris is in Bendigo. The lines are open. How are you Chris? Yeah, you're going to go. How are you mate? I'm good. Thank you. That's all right. Now, it's just interested to hear your in team's conversation about Marshall and Budders trade to Western board odds. You mentioned that there's no way Marshalls were two first round drafts. But then you also mentioned the Christian contract went last year for three first round drafts. It's Melbourne, which ultimately, you know, Hanse, I've got to be a really good deal for Melbourne. But then, like they're using the eye of the beholder. So if you get Budders and Marshall for three first round drafts, ultimately, you know, it is probably not quite as good as a deal for Port Adelaide is what Melbourne got. But if they're willing to spend it, then you know, it's ultimately what the market value for those two players is at the end of the day. I don't think there's any club, well, I might be wrong. I don't think there's any club in the competition
who other than the bulldogs who are caught up in this with the Port Adelaide footy club that would be paying or forking out two first rounders for Todd Marshall. And, you know, the Petraka comparison, his Petraka was a fourth-time best of fairs, was the Norseworth medalist and the Premiership Superstar who had the runs on the board. So whilst it was a, you know, it was a pretty hefty packet that they paid. It was completely just a flop. Yeah. And we've seen, and we had seen in the past, we've seen players and the salary be manipulated too, which would then trigger for that club a higher compensation pick than what would it be had it been, the contract had it been named in a different way. I'm sure that all that happened. And that all happened and the AFO ticked it off. Like there are, there are numerous examples of that happening in the past. Quicksawans joining us on AFO 360 tomorrow, right? So that will be absolutely opportune. Paul's in Rosanna, how are you, Paul? Hi Gary, hi Tim.
I'm over the moon with the Jack Battles' deal to Doggie's name. But I want you to, got to do with the AFO. If Paul and the dogs reach an agreement, that should be fine. The AFO will be coming like North Korea, just about out. That's their job, though, Paul. Their job is to cast an eye over all the deals and the transactions in the game. And if they believe there's manipulation of some kind, that's what they're saying. We're looking at this. If we believe that this doesn't stack up, and it's not what we would believe to be a fair trade, then it's going to raise our eyebrows. But you've got Jack Battles anyway, Paul. I don't think he's gone anywhere else. So that's pretty exciting stuff, isn't it? Absolutely. Good on you mate. So you welcome him, Sam Darcy back into the side. As a starting point next year, that's pretty damn exciting. You get butts. So they're going to have butts and butters in the same team. So you shore up your defense. So you get butts back there. They're same. You get Seymour back there. And then you've got the improvement of Scoob's boy,
James Adon. James Adon, who's become a very, very good defender. You got Dale still in the back. Dale's excellent. They're looking okay, aren't they? If they hold together. In a health sense. One to 16, I think they're looking absolutely fantastic. One to 16 might be good enough to actually cover what they may not have at the back end. But then you need some improvement from within, don't you? Mine just become a good player. Yeah, he's improved. I think the other boy, Sanders improves. Sanders has become a better player. Young Kennedy, he looks like he can play. Like Kennedy, yeah. Like he Kennedy looks like he can play too. Paying a nice picture. Hold on Craig, hold on Greg, hold on Sally. We'll be back after this. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. It's on. Great to have you with us. Prulumri final week, the build-up's going to be massive. And you are right where you need to be on Sien, which is a home of football. Does more football, Sien, and covers the game better than anyone else Tim? I had a, had caused to listen to a few things over the weekend.
And I am forever grateful that Sien is doing what they do. We do a Marvelous job. We do. Oh, not us. But no, no, the station. The station. The station does an amazing job, fireball, doing an amazing job as well. How did it go for? I tickle him, that's right. Just don't, this is a good point that's been raised by somebody here. And that is that, you know, maybe with Tarou, he looked at what happened during this trade period last year as a young player. And he saw two of his leaders in his team, Marshall wanting to get out. Yeah. And Ken Wilkie, or Kowalki also trying to get out of his football club too. What impressions does that leave on a young player, a young, impressionable player about what this game's all about? Well, I'm not sure, but he's manager. If he's getting his head turned by that, he's managing his decision to answer him. You can't worry about that. No, but he's manager. This is business. No, a good manager might do that, but this one is saying he's not a good manager. I'm saying that this manager has been out there shopping him about.
Now, maybe he did that to try and gauge his market value. And they were trying to get a longer-term deal with Sincilda, which Sincilda, and I think rightfully so, there's still the jury might be out on this kit. There might be other clubs that are prepared to swing and give him a very, very healthy five-year deal. But maybe Sincilda aren't at that point. Maybe they can't afford to. What a big deal. Maybe Sincilda also, they're looking at what they might have to pay on top of the two men that they paid him this year and next year, and what they might have to pay him going forward as to keeping him too. The manager also managed to leave. Leakilyer was... Well, the management company, yes, says it. Sentimenter perfect. And Leakily was on his way to Sincilda. On his way to Sincilda. On his way to Sincilda. Deal down, deal down, deal down, deal down. No deal. Would you have had the bracing bits? Well, I think he probably did on behalf of his player. He's then used a player like Alex Threw to get back at Sincilda. Where? I hope...
I think there's probably evidence that this has happened in the past. Gary, yes. Craig's in the CBD. Good morning, Craig. Yeah, good morning, fellas. Let's agree with Tim on this topic around players, looking at other clubs at this time of the year. Last year, Collingham was preparing for a pre-limp final. And Brody Myercheck has openly admitted that he was having trouble going into the club because he was really annoyed at the offer. Collingham would have put to them. You got Locky Neal, who's about playing a pre-limp final as well. It's been touring clubs. I just think that there's more than enough time in the off season for clubs and players to get together and to talk about what the opportunities are, rather than doing an in-season. Here we are. We've got pre-limp finals. The second most important, we're kind coming up. And we're talking about all these trades. It's just... It's just wrong. I just think that it's time to ban this stuff during the season, leave it to the off season. The AFL gets all its media off the back of it.
And do it all the end. It's not... I think Crub grew the Crub. You mean ban the touring. The touring part. They're never going to be able to stop the disconversations. The conversations can take place. But the physical touring of another facility, I grew the Crub. It's not a hard thing for the AFL to do. Just say, look, you are not able to tour another club's facility. Until you contract expires. Or until the season ends. Well, until the season ends, whichever comes first. Greg, is it when you say, how do I Greg? Greg, guys. I Greg. Yeah, Greg. Yeah, Greg, you're coming through. Loud and clear. What is it you'd like to say this morning? Ah, you know, the whole rustline thing in the way, coach is like Alex Terouj should have played the whole year. One of the first week of the gathering. Next week, we stay there, but that's OK. We play Adelaide. They go to a black name, Raleigh Philzal, but it's 6'421. The only bike we've got to get near him is the Viking. Like, why on God's earth would you have dropped him for that game?
Going forward to that, like, you know, King isn't playing that's fine. But play Alex Terouj with the centre half forward. Like, yeah, couple of really good games. You know, we can mark the ball. Camelie can't mark the ball. He just plays too many favorites. And that's like you're sticking with bikes like Butler, Henry. You know, Camelie, and even... Hey, Greg, can I just pick you up on one point? And that is that Alex Terouj, I don't know exactly how many games he missed this year through... I'd not say any into you. He's only played 19 and two years, but he missed a lot of footy this year through suspension as well. Yeah, and there's no, it doesn't make any sense in any world that Ross wouldn't be playing him for any other reason. And he thinks it's the best for the kid and the best for the footy club. If he thinks that he's going to help him win games, and he would be playing him, he's not going to play and roll. He'll fall. He's still got a lot of gaps in his game as a kid. He's raw. He says raw as an onion. As the butcher's club made, did he? He is.
But he's got... He's got all the things that made him such a sort of after talent as an under 18 kid, is the things that I think are going to make him become a very good footy player. But he's so raw. Yeah. He's loose in terms of the way he plays. Like he's not right inside your jumper. He's a drop off defender. He's an unbelievable spoiler. He'll jump at anything. He's courageous and tough, but he hasn't got the decision-making part of it all down pat because he's been suspended for the same thing a couple of times. So that's going to take a bit of time. Would you say that he's 50% of what Nat Catti has produced so far in his career? I thought you're going to say he's a 50% finished product. I think that's probably more accurate. Yeah, but he's still nowhere near Catti. No. And Catti's a kid too that he's developing, but he's shown a lot more than Alex Tarou. Yeah, and Alex's... They might be different kids, I don't know. He can't even... There's sort of the same thing about him. And he's a beautiful naivety.
He's a lovely kid. He's a lovely kid. He's a lovely him in this studio. And he's a terrific... Well, from what we could tell. But there's a naivety about what he's doing. So he might not have quite picked up the absolute nuances of AFL footage. And if you're a young kid, you're eight in a nine in. You've got to manage it. You're employing a manager. You are employing them to do your contract, but also you are being guided by the advice that they provide for you. Yeah. Are you not? Yeah, of course. Or like you've either got your parents are helping you, or your managers helping you, and the football club's probably trying to help you. Some kids do not have a problem with this kid. They love this kid. They love this kid. They love this kid's family. And they thought... And they thought they know exactly what he's doing? No. And they thought that he was completely an utterly happy at the football club until some calls were made yesterday. Yeah, so they don't quite know where he's headed. Well, they thought they did. Yeah, but they don't. Yeah, but my point is they thought they did. But now they're not quite so sure whether or not they do know...
No, not by an argumentative. As I can be with you at times, but there in May be the problem. What they think and the reality is would appear to be worlds apart. They think he's happy. They think he's settled. They think he loves the club. They've been told he loves the club. But he's not doing anything. And then on the other hand, they eventually find out that he loves the club that much he's touring the goalco, so... Yeah, but that goes to the point that that I think is being orchestrated by his management. Right. And he's taking advice from his management, which, you know, he's not unusual for young kids that are first stepping into our football to think that their manager knows better. And the manager's going to do the right thing by him. Sometimes management makes the wrong decision on behalf of kids. Let's get some 730 news headlines. We'll continue the discussion. I keep the messages coming through. Lines are open. Notice we'll get to you on the other side of this. The footy news for Ian Reed-Biron Vendor Advocates. Ian Reed-Vendor Advocates. Well, you're home, you're a better way. Go on, ring us. Hello, messages coming through that you... along the lines of... Now, I'm not necessarily agreeing with disagreeing, but along the lines of your report, you're so.
It's in Kyoto. That is when you have Kel Wilkie that wants out at one stage, you have Rao Marshall who wants out, you trade, you cap the jack steal against these wills. He goes on and has a really good year. His footy club, you bring in the big money player that doesn't quite play up to expectations, that's the environment that lends itself to this sort of thing. What do you say to that? Well, I think there could be an element of truth to all that. And on the evidence of players wanting out, then you'd think, okay, well, why aren't they happy? What's about that environment that they want to leave behind? You got players that went into their career, talking about the veterans, and you got players at the other end of the career, and then you've got some kid in the right at the beginning of his career, saying, well, this is my impression of the game. This is what I think the game is. It doesn't matter what you think, Gary, it doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't matter what I think about loyalty, not about loyalty, and you know, sticking to contracts and that type of thing. You're seeing this and you're thinking, oh, this is what the game is.
This is what the game is. Otis is in Jolonga, Otis. Morning, boys. How are you? Good, thanks. Good. Look, not the most pressing and important issue coming up, but I need you guys to put a call through to Steve Hawking and to Andrew Dylan, because Jolonga's 40 Club has gone through a historical change, a hundred and seventy-year-old club in 25 years ago, some of them went to the Jolonga, but where was it? Every single home game. Can we put it all out there somewhere, get thousands of Jolonga supporters to call up and vent their concerns? Jolonga is the Navy shorts, and every home game, there's no clashes, incumbent on other teams to change their strength if required, be it really or really earths, you guys are powerful. What can we do? Nothing, Otis. I'm afraid, because unfortunately, I'm respecting you.
I'm respecting that it's a big point and a big issue for you. So I hear you, but that's not the way the AFL works anymore. It's just that's not, you know, it used to be back in the day that the whisper, where the black knicks at home and the white knicks away. And that was the red. The red. A red. Fetching, they were. Now it's not set in stone anymore, and you just fall in the line with whatever, the AFL deemed to be the non-jumper clash. Can we talk about one other thing that... Respect that, Otis likes the Navy, and I have the white one. Yes, no, we both respect that. The other fallout, potential fallout from Zack Butter's decision, is Toby Green. So what element do you think was playing on the mind of Toby, that he would be playing alongside somebody like Zack Butter's at-chalong? Do you think this will force him to have a rethink about this? I'll give him my answer on the other side of the break. Might be there's more coin available for Toby. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. We should reform.
He came in the preliminary final, comes around at 20 stars, so just step right up to the plate and just starts whacking him out. He told you before anyone. The Timingley said, hey, they said the Timingley, you're staying because Toby, Zack, met Butter's one trip, and he stayed, and Zack Butter's came. I give you my flash. No, no, I'm true. Sometimes when the whist speaks, they look in the wrong spot. They go after these other younger newshounds, but during the whist speaks, listen. Can I ask you a good advice? Can I ask you a question? And then Karra gave you a mention last night, that's how... It's a interesting thing for Tim to say. More. It's the thoring. It's the first step of the thoring. Okay, let's move on. Do you think, do you think Jolong have placed enough value on a rockman over the last decade? No, I think they've wrestled with that decision as much as anything that has been in Chris Scott's time. Can I say, I went a bit of a deep dive yesterday.
You know, their last five years, their most credentialed rockman. Who do you think they're best... Stanley. Incorrect. Who do you think has been their best rockman in the last five years based on performance? Oh, what a sad Stanley. Hmm, who is it? Bluts off. Wow. And would you... No, these are the stats. That's what I'm saying. Oh, I don't like that. Well, don't jump back at me, because I'm actually telling you something. That's who statistically has been their number one rockman in five years. Now I'll put to you. He's not a rockman. No, he's not. They don't like it. No, I never went for it. He's not a rockman. And I reckon it has cost them... It's been to the benefit many times, but I think it's been to the negative on occasion too, because where they could have deployed him, because he's been so good at playing so many different positions. Hmm. And the fact that they haven't been able to necessarily play him and use him somewhere else, because he's been pinch hitting in the rock, but he's actually become as the last five years of statistics are, he's become their most performed rockman in their
in their team. Yeah, well, maybe they'll address it. It's a hard one, because they like Edwards, but he's not quite there and got it, not no disgrace. He was against Luke Jackson when Luke Jackson turned the tie to that match. Well, in the last eight minutes of that game, they won six clearances, free mantle, and Edwards gave away three kicks that resulted in goals. Two of those went to Jackson, and he was just in experience. Like, I'm not having a crack at the kid, but he just... Well, if they weren't muck it around with their rockman, they might have been able to get more games into him, and maybe you didn't make those to see. Well, that's all the things that are on the table that are probably there doing in their postseason analysis. So I've got a couple of interesting developments. Does Jolong now just cross out the butters on the contract and ride in the merit? Well, that's an interesting question, because I think he... I think other clubs would be entertaining the idea of maybe recruiting him.
Maybe he wasn't their number one priority, but do Adelaide now try, given their lack of debt? I'm asking about Jolong. Yeah, I'm throwing in Adelaide as another team. And I think Jolong may be... Oh, it's all you want to meet for your dad? Yeah, but he's older than butters. No, you cross out merit. You cross out butters. Right, merit, and you slash a couple of zeros. That's right. And you're not paying any money in a few years or so. In a few years. But in terms of what they're after, they want me to feel debt, they want ball users, they want some... No, it's all those things. Does that merit that Jolong would be... Is not as ferocious... He can be. Oh, he's not... He's not... Yeah, but he's not at the same level that Zach... No one is. I don't think anyone is ferocious as Zach matters. I think that... And is the second part of my interesting observation. If Toby wants... Is so badly wants to play with Zach butters, there's Toby go to the ball dogs. I don't see how the ball dogs could possibly be.
Toby, it's a job, right? It's a good one, yeah. It's a good one. Toby, Zach, and Rowan. Yeah, I know, but they've already got a couple of biggies there. And I don't know. What's the Sam Darcy situation in terms of his contract? He didn't do... Did he do a multi-year massive, massive deal or did they just sort of do a medium-style deal? Well, he didn't be. But not as... I don't think he... No, he's not the big big bee. I don't think he took the farm. Well, put it this way. If he comes out and kicks 85 goals this year, they've got a problem. He got... They're going to have the three highest paid points. I think he's locked away for a while though. In the game butters Darcy and Bontan Belly. I don't know if we'll find out about Sammy Darcy, but it is all good. It is all good. We're not picking up anything Gary's putting down. Thank you. He changed it. He changed it. Anyway, I think the merit and the wrong thing, I just... I would like to see that. Do you know something or do you just... Are you just flooding that as an idea? Oh, you do know something. No, I don't know. You should do. No, I know that look. No, I know that look. I know that look.
I don't. And you never, ever dip your toe into this area unless you've got information of... Of the 10% correct. Maybe Hawthorn should look at Merritt. Well, I think Hawthorn are being looking at Merritt for the best part of two years. So, well, that's still very much on. Sammy Darcy, Simon with the Western Bulldogs till the end of 2029, for your extension of this last contract. What sort of checks were we talking there? Like... Midrange. What's Midrange? Uh, Oricon, he would have been an 8-9. Oh, no. He wouldn't have gone. Pastored Mill. Surely. No. I don't think so. Oh, they have got a problem there. They've got to give him up to that stage. Hey, um... Tell me, Libattore, he's always going to be a good interview. Tell me, Libattore, and he's going on the podcast. I'm not sure who's podcasting is. I'll find out. I'll give the proper attribution. But they had this to say on the signing of Zack Buttons to the dogs. Zack Buttons. Going to the dogs. Where we boarded. Now, how good is that? Just for the club, obviously, we've seen departing legends. Oh, I don't know. They're going to get some young pups in there. Absolutely, Pumps. So, rats. I couldn't blame ours.
Literally scrimal. I'm sure we bottled this. Yeah. Yeah. Well, then we got it better now. Yeah, even better. It's been a long, lost that day. And then I'll get better. Yeah. Now they want I'll get Toby. Yeah. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. Let's go. All right, we're in a busy couple of hours. We've got Sammy Edmund coming in out of eight o'clock. So all of the news that's kicking around, he makes sense of the trade stuff better than we probably do. Well, though, we were pretty good this morning. No, he's great. No, he's great. No, he's great. He's great with the detail. And he's got plenty of it this morning to some background stuff that hasn't been aired yet. So, very nice looking forward to that. Very quick. On the Jolong Ruckman thing, the cat slid d'Arcy forward, walked to the line since then he's been a two-time premiership Ruckman, one of them against the cats. Yep. They've got a text from someone that's up there in a Brisbane territory. Just doing a bit of... Smoking a pipe style. Do you know who that person is or not? I don't. I want to ask you a question about the coaches in these contracts too and how there's only a six-month payout. Sammy Evan will be all over that. He's going to join us next.
Breakfast with Gary and Tim. The news with Sam Edmund for La Tosca Fresh Pasta bringing authentic Italian flavor and restaurant quality meals to busy family dinners at home. Hello there. Phil Marshall. Hello. Phil Marshall. Hello, Gary. Hello, Tim. Good to see you. Good morning, Sammy. How are you this morning? Good morning to you, bud. I can't get away from you. I walk into Fox now and there you are. May. Oh, and these. Simulka. I'm Roto. No, you and Jared and Kenny. Yes. I'm the Fox 40 Simulka. This is from the Lour. Is ubiquitous. That's what it is. Just a little hour of power. Podcast listener normally, but I want to text this morning. The Fox call on Friday night was one of the best I've ever heard. And was fitting with one of the best games I've ever seen too. This episode is brought to you by TickTack. Lee Sub and Get Your Game On because the TickTack lineup just got a new teammate. Dr Pepper TickTack. This new double threat puts two of your favorite flavors into one box of mince. And when two iconic flavors come together, the result can only be iconic.
Score big. Try Dr Pepper TickTack today. Ari, you, Dwayne and Hutto, we're in complete sync with the emotion of the game and the emotion of every Frio fan watching at home. Whatever happens from here, that win will live in free-manteau folklore and we have the call to match. Oh, thank you. It's amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I just had a running for the... That's nice. ...courer of the wing. Real nice. Well, we know Gary's been, you know, a member of the unofficial member of the Permanente for a while now. One A, I've been sick, but A, but the people... He pre-says an operator. The people in Perth were in the same opinion when I was over there. Well, certainly not the news I did. I went to. Oh, you got a bit, did you? I did, he did. What a harsh feedback. Yeah, 100%. Along what lines? Oh, you, she said this lovely, yeah, she was a very nice lady. She was having a bit of fun. Oh, you've been a bit hard on us. I said, I don't think I've been very, very... Tough love. Tough love, no. Anyway, where are we at? Hey, look, that Tom Morris report last night is 100% accurate.
I find this so interesting. Well, this is the framework anyway. The crux of what the dogs and the power have been working on behind the scenes, even before Zack Butters nominated them. And the willingness of the Bulldogs to work through this does go a long way, or did go a long way to securing Butters' commitment, because it showed him that there's good faith and a deal is likely to be struck between the two. Now, there'll be more to it. And you suspect being even a tad cynical whisp, there would be more maybe next trade period, too, perhaps, to some sort of sweetheart deal. So where are the AFL with this? Because there is always going to be seriously tested here. That's our question for you. Yeah, and broadly, there are concerns among clubs over what you would call lopsided deals, side deals, which they argue manipulate the free agency window. Now, Greg Swan said to the AG yesterday, we are onto it. Now, the clubs I was spoken to this morning say there has been no reminder. It is an annual reminder. Clubs put on notice that we're monitoring things. Now, they say they're going to be really monitoring this. It's an annual memo, but this is going to play out very publicly. Now, the AFL were already aware of this deal
before it became public. Proposed. Yes, today. Proposed deal. Yep. Orch Australia deal, if you like. And that would be the framework. No one's saying it's all of it, but that would be the spine of it. Now, the AFL were already aware of it. I'm told that largely split down the middle as to how they're receiving it. Andrew Dillon, the past, has told clubs he hates this sort of stuff. He's picked up the phone before. The CEO of the AFL. Now, what they're okay with a salary dump trade. And that's what the Todd Marshall exchange would be. It's a salary dump trade. Just explain that to people who may not be of fail with that description. Well, the best example in recent times and he gets brought up regularly is the Jack Boes move, Boes and Seven to Jalong. And Jalong take on the entirety of Jalong. Well, I think the entirety of Jack Boes is salary. So they got pitch seven and a player. And they will go do the selfie. Because the suns wanted the contract off their book. Correct. It's pick purchasing in a way. So the AFL are okay with that. They get that. They know that that exists. What they don't like is when the free agency window or any free agency deal is manipulated
and when they are linked. So if they do sit entirely separate and it's butters for five as per the compensation and it's Marshall for pick 12 and a future for. So in the AFL split down the middle on Todd Marshall being worth a first round and a future first. Yeah, because Todd Marshall's contract until 2020. What about Todd Marshall's output? Yeah, well, that's all it's subjective. But that's that they can't go to that subjective part of the deal. They've got to go by the contract and where he was ranked and rated at that time when the contract was drawn up. Can I just ask you? I don't think that's right. No, well, that's so. If what if he's had one kick in three years and they go, well, listen, I know he's not playing well. He played it a position. I know he's not a big contract before he got in. Gary can just a five round. Yeah, they're playing him at a position. Gary thought he's the only one kicking. He was doing exactly what he wanted him to do. He was playing as a Duke. Old Coast gave Jalong Jackboz. No, no, I'm with you. I'm agreeing. I'm just saying the scrutiny now has to be ramped up.
But letting that go through. Based on this though, who has the problem? Why don't you do it by the way? Does poor Adelaide have the problem here? No, I think it's a great deal for both clubs. No, no, but if the AFL said no, we don't agree with... Well, I think it's coming back. I'm authentically about the martial. That's all the rush for martial. Yeah, that's what Gary said. But if the AFL say no, you can't do this martial deal because we believe this whole thing has been manipulated. Poor Adelaide say they're not matching the butter's deal. They take the compensation. So poor Adelaide only walk away with pick five. Yeah, and that's poor Adelaide problem right now. That's a big problem for them. That's what I'm saying. That's their problem right now. Because they have said they won't match the deal or not. No, they have said consistently they will match the deal. Yeah, that's right. So at this point, they can still, if they would want to, they could still match the deal. It's all up for negotiation. I mean, no one's waiting to do anything at this day. But some people might think these whole things are done deals. Not a done deal. No, no, no, far from it. I mean, it is a good deal. This one I think for poor Adelaide because they've got their kids coming through.
Father son, Louis Salabec, the Academy kids, Emma's pilot as well. They're going to need top end picks to match those bids. So first round is for top Marshall is a great deal. That's him. Yeah, so that future first that won't be, it won't be a great pick. It's not going to be a great pick. Okay, so this will be the, okay, you say you're ticking off on it, right? I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that the scrutiny around this isn't as conclusive as what you're making it out to be. But let's use that then as the benchmark for ongoing deals that Todd Marshall's worth two first rounders. See how we go. Yeah, you won't get a deal now. Yeah, but Todd really, we were three and throw Nick Hattie. But not every deal, not every deal that's been done in the past has been what we would deem to be equal either. Like a lot of people believe that, you know, the Petracad deal was overs for Melbourne. Who? Couple people out there. I don't have to name all of you. The thing is as well is that it's a small incestuous sort of industry. So like Justin Reed was at the crows and is now at the AFA working in this space
set of football performance list management engagement. And Greg Swann, like these guys know all the tricks. Like when Joe Danna, who went and Esslyn and got band one compo, top 10 pick, the controversy came later because to get that top tier top band compensation, Brisbane had to offer him a heap of coin. And they did it in a three year contract. Everyone thought, gee, that's a lot of money in three years. What do you know a year later? Let's extend him out two years. So I mean, these guys who were all the straighting all those tricks and now sitting as the cops. In judgment of these games. Gamekeeper and the poacher. So in the end, you're just, we'll just get back to this butters, the Europe. In the end, the AFA would effectively be ticking off Zach butters for pick five. Correct. That's not washing. Well hang on, that's the system though. It's not washing. What do you mean it's not washing? No, it is the system though. That's the stocking goes for three and butters goes for one. Yeah, but this is the compensation. Well, the track was different. He was in contract still. They had to do a deal. I could point. Yeah. Yeah, that's the system. I don't think there's any argument over that. Or we would think that port would want more. But it's the Marshall element. So it's that it is being scrutinized at AFL House.
And then he go back over time. So Jeremy Cameron was the three first rampics and a future fourth. And in return, the cut's got Jeremy Cameron and two future second rampics. And then he go back probably irrelevant now. But back in time, Patrick Dangerfield was the other one. 928 and Dean Goerid didn't quite kick off of the dinner. Or I'll do no. So that's that. So that will play out big time over the next few weeks. Well, be interesting. 20 and 360 tomorrow night. Is he? Yes. We'll put him right in the hot seat. So no memo as yet, by the way, the clubs haven't received them. It's been reported. So who determines that in AFL House? All those guys who's been there? Yeah, Justin Reed, I suppose. Because they put a value on it. Yep. Well, they sit in judgment of every deal. But especially this one, they have to stand on their own merit is the terminology that the AFL use. That's why we've got you. I don't. And someone said, you've got a lack of understanding. I do. And I put my hand up because I find it all right. You're right to question it though. And the club's not a question. They spoke to a club on the way in here and they said, no, no, it's got to smell about it.
And the clubs, but when it ain't you, you go hard, don't you? When it's you, it's the walls fine. Well, Jolong, would they be anywhere behind the scenes here or not given a day missed out on butters? Criticising? Yeah. Oh, possibly. I don't know. I haven't spoken to the cats. I'm just asking for a Johnny from Eping. That's all. Oh, okay. Who'd want to know? The North Coaching Search, don't we? That's something Johnny from Eping would want to know. I read that haven't yet a, well, they're a symbol, but haven't, no, they haven't a symbol. No, Darren Crockett said they hadn't. He's on that panel. So it's steady issue goes here in no rush at all. Now the club has though, Gary, reached out and contacted a range of candidates. Right. So they're not sitting on their hands. No, no, these are the, what do we call them? Not even the coffee catch-ups, the preliminary phone calls. Now these have already been made to the senior group or the senior candidates, if you like. This is your Adam Simpson, John Longwise. And also the assistant coaching group, the new wave, including Jamie Graham, Enright, Pratt, Kelly, J. Are we all letting those names? You didn't mention Nathan Buckley is here. So Nathan Buckley is well-possibly.
I know that for certain, but he's definitely part of that senior group of course. So Simpson and Longwise are the very interesting elements for obvious reasons. And Adam has been open about giving it some real thought and doing his due diligence. So is Lord Smith still right next door to Arden Street? What now? Do you know? Lord Smith, do you know? Right next to Arden Street? Cos Simo's got, I'm just trying to work out. You go way too lateral here. Is that next for Bound? Well, you could drop the dogs off there for the day and then just pick them up at the end of the day. It's like a dog minding himself. That's a shelter. G'day, it's Simo here. Welcome to the coach's corner. It's an animal hospital on top. All right. So there was a thought the club might lean towards the first time. And in fact, some of those preliminary chats with the candidate, they said as much, but not sure the formal criteria is being set and put forth to these guys at this stage. So it might be a wide open process, all being worked through Gen Wat, Todd Viny, Andrew Swallow, Darren Crocker, we mentioned Nick Dowlings of Ice President and Steelside Bottoms, the former player.
So when they're making the calls, are they just garnering initial interest? Would you be interested, you know? Under what terms would you be interested? Like if they said, would you be interested? And they say, well, what would you expect me to go through the whole kit and caboodle? I think so. They say, yes, we do. And they go, well, not interested. I'm not in on these phone calls, but I think they're largely preliminary nature. Would you have an interest in us? Well, we've got an interest in you. What's the criteria? Well, we haven't quite set the full criteria yet. We'll be back in touch with you there. But sit tight, we're coming back. So I think they're the sort of conversations that take place at the moment. I'm not sure we've advanced from that either. So just on the contractual part of this, how many coaches out there would have these contracts whereby the club is only responsible for a six month payout or whatever? Is that a common contract in AFL coaching ranks now? I think so. It's not a standard contract though, is it? They're all up for negotiation. Some have full protection. Yes. Not many though. And others have the mandate.
Harshal. It really depends as well how reliant these clubs are on the AFL in terms of the annual distribution levels and such that come from league headquarters. So you tend to find... So the AFL dictate... You tend to find the more powerful clubs are in a position to full payout for the coaches that they would part ways with. But what about Nick? What would Matthew Nick's contract for? No, I don't know. I don't know what his protection clause or mechanism is. Just along me was really interesting as well, given he's a member of staff. But we're told that he does have full protection. So whatever that means. Speaking of Nick's, I mean, that Tim Silver's letter to members guaranteeing his position next year came just after that semifinal exit. He will be our senior coach in 2027. So an early question with that notice to you too. How do they jump another level? Is it talent? Is it development? Is it system after the break? Breakfast with Gary and Tim. The IMA trade-off. Questions without notice? For IMA, protecting tradies and builders for over 35 years.
Call 13 IMA to get covered today. Well, given we are talking about trades, you've traded the Kubota for a Kubota, what is it that you're actually getting for your big director? Actually, their partner is Kubota Orange. You're going to love Kubota's Orange October sales event. Great offers available until October 31st. Kubota loves tough off taking advantage of that. But he haven't been voted. I'm traded the big tractor for a smaller one. And a nice mulcher on the back. What are you getting though? A L-3800 HD-38 horsepower tractor. That sounds impressive. Is it a 4-in-1 buck? Just your tires, fitted with a loader, third function and a 4-in-1 buck. You got a 4-in-1? Yep, and a Cosmo bully mulcher. Good boy. Have you got a trailer with that? Because I wouldn't mind you dropping it off at night for a couple of weeks over the summer. You're going to end it. You've got to come and get it though. Filled he asked about the Adelaide Grows. How they going to get better? Yeah. So before I let you guys loose on this, Tim Silver's in a letter to member said, we believe in Matthew and Nick's.
We trust the program he leads. We remain aligned on air vision for the future. He will be our coach in 2027. So this stage is going into 2027 without an extension. So he will be coaching for his future next year. So talent, development or system. And I went back through. So the misses, now that a few hits last year. But the misses in a particular part of the ground that they've long prioritised. Mist on Zach Bailey. Mist on Tom Sparrow. Mist on Nazaire. Mist on Riley Sanders. Mist on Christian Petraca. And that's just off the top on my head. So they do they need an A-grade midfielder in the middle of the ground to take that next step. There's a reliance on Isaac Rankin. It would appear from an X-Paper 1. Just to balance it out. Hit on Dawson. Hit on Rankin. Yeah, we're going back away for Dawson. But yeah, hit on Rankin. Hit on other players coming. Alex Nealball. And I get all that. But they're after a game breaker in the middle of the ground. Clearly as Bailey, Nazaire and Petraca suggested. Do they come back for Nazaire next year?
And is that the only way they take the next step? Is the system needing development and refinement? Is it development in their youth? How do they get? It's all those things. How do they get that? No, it's all those things. And Gary can speak to this because he sort of spends a lot more time breaking down the way teams play than I do. But they were number 18 for Ford Hambles in the competition. So they clearly went down a different path to the way that a lot of other teams were playing in the competition. Gary. Yeah, they'll have to examine the way they go, whether they think it's modern footy, whether it's standing up in from a modern point of view. It protects playing the way they did. It protects their back half. It protects them defensively. They're vulnerable to full pressure. Correct. And press. And then, anyway, they've got a, I think they've got an overaliance clearly on Rankin and Dawson. And when they don't click, then they're in trouble. So Thilthorp didn't have the year that you would hope he would have had some back injury, back issues, which thought he was going to be a dominant foot.
I think Paul A's can be their key back. I think they're going to commit to Murray Wharall. I think they're back. Defensively, there is good as any team in the competition. It might be the dogs. Yeah, it might be the way they play. But they don't give up scores too often. But then you go and play against Brisbane. The last two times I've played against Brisbane, I've been absolutely split open. Smashed out of the center of bounce, so too, as much as anywhere. Yeah. So that's always been the issue that they, and Rankin going in and developing into the midfielder that he has helps, but they got, yeah, I like all the great teams. You got to have more than two. Yeah. Well, they can't, hasn't come on. They can't get in as for next year. Do they, you mentioned Zach Merritt who still wants out of essence and we believe it helps for sure. Would you, would you ask the question again if you're the Adelaide Christ? Yeah, 100%. Of course, Zach Merritt is a, he's as close to a fail safe in the market. Nice right now as any midfielder. I agree. So you might, yeah, four or five years of Zach Merritt is
going to be four or five years well spent. I still think it's one destination only for Zach, but I'm sure it is. I'm just be rolling here about what they need. Might be open to having a look at him. I just threw the cats up. Yeah. If I'm missing, I'm saying to Zach, okay, we, we, we will help facilitate where you want to go, but don't give us one option. No. We don't want one option because that's going to be too hard. You saw what happened last year. We couldn't get the deal done. Give us at least two options as to where you would be prepared to go. I mean, the counterpoint to that is they've had a four year to work it out. I think we'd be naive to think they have many discussions with all thought throughout the year. Essnen as well. I'm sure they'll, if it is only going to be all thought him, I'm sure they will get a deal done this time around. But we'll see what happens. What's most just so sure this time? Oh, just time. Order under the bridge. Now, I just think it happens. A history says most of the time it happens at the second time of asking with time to work it out. If it was all rushed and last minute, this time last year, it certainly won't be that this year. Toby Green, like this decision coming to a head really soon.
I think GWS resetting to a degree with Hogan and string around. Toby's been weighing up. What other players do too in his decision? We've heard that. But it's not going to gelong now and the effect that has on his decision is going to be interesting to hear in the fullness of time. English being targeted by GWS. Toby's discussed that as well as a factor in his decision. Which put that to bed. Yep. So if English stays but as is at the dogs, then what does he do? Toby Green. It's going to be, I think maybe the decision coming really soon on that front. What are you reckon? I can't call it. I'm not going to pretend to know what his answer is. I think he's been agonizing over it for so far be it for me to predict what's going to happen here. But just to be cool, just on Toby Green's numbers over the last four years too. So he as a general forward in 23, he was ranked the number one in 24, number 10 in 25, number six. And this season he's been ranked as a general forward number eight in the competition. That's a champion data ranking. So it's holding up like at some stage, he'll like everybody.
He'll go into decline because that's what happens to everybody. As they go deeper into their 30s. But right now he's actually as he's in the top 10 of general forwards in the competition. What do you think he's holding up? He's into the bargain. What do you think he's got any in Wisp and other two solos? Yeah, I reckon another I reckon another two I reckon three. And a fresh start would revert. Yeah, I think yeah, it's free. Yeah, probably, yeah, probably three. Probably three. Would the AFL give Gary's Kubota trade deal a tick? Would he get too many picks and shovels? No, Terry sort of salary done. It was a full on trade. Good for both parties. All right, I touched on this yesterday. The NFL, did you go to the NFL? Wispy did in the end. And yeah, I did. I think of the ring of steel. I thought it was magnificent. I thought it was absolutely magnificent. The way that that was orchestrated the weekend and it's something that the AFL should look very closely. You slipped in at number 20 in the AFL's. Look at me. Look at me.
What's that? Yeah, the AFL identities that went to the NFL. All right. Yeah, here I am. Here I am. Well, I wasn't looking. I'm just happy to be looking at them. It was an amazing event. I was. It was incredible the way they laid it on. But the reason I mentioned the ring of steel is the AFL. I've got no plans. Actually, Wispy to replicate that. That campus style perimeter fencing for this year's wine final. Too hard to implement now. The whole mantra is accessibility affordability. It's free. Yarra Park, the parade ends there. They want families to get along. They don't want that whole precinct just be confined to those who have a ticket to the game. They want 100,000 to go to the game, but they want another 50,000 to get around game day. The week in the lead up from Wednesday when it becomes a loss. Surely in this day and age with technology, whatever you can and mate, you can make it available to people in the lead up to the grand final. And then the added complexity is the MCC gates, the AFL members and the people just shepherd little wall around. Another wall around. Why are you trying to put impediments in front of all this? Why are you so combative?
I'm just simply telling you what the AFL have got to you too. I've got to get carried during the call. That's his tractor. That's his tractor, isn't it? That's upside. That's all I want to fans out there. This has got nothing to do with whether or not Zach goes to Hawthorne. I know they said just very salty. No, they say I am very salty. No, I'm not. I'm just looking at this from essence perspective and trying to get the best possible deal they can. That's all he ends up there and it's the best deal. Good luck to you and your repeated snide comments towards Jolong outwashing. No, that's not washing it either. Well apparently that's the case too. 830 News headline stay there for a couple of little questions without notice coming up. We've got questions, we've got the half hour free. So you can join in if you'd like. 4-390-1116 is the text number. A little round of questions without notice before Fieldy leaves us. The whisper is getting a lot of questions off the text here. Ask the whisp if port offers S and pick 4 and 5 for picks 1 and 19. What do you do it? Yes, I do that.
You take 4 and 5 and give up 1 and 19. Yep, I do that. Right. Because all, I don't know who you talk to Sammy but all the people I talk to about the top rated, you know, 5 to 10, or top 10 players, they all have a different order. Like there's no clear cut. Number one first pick for a team out there. There's no highly read out there in this draft. I think they say Dougie Cochrane's the clearest out there. Well, he might go to put his card in his tie. And Cody Walker might be too, but he's tied. Here's a cut little Zinger one's off the text for you. Off the temper. Carlton and Marty, where's that at? Ah, pursuit ongoing. We're offered a million dollars more over the life of the 5-year contract in Sydney. So that's why Joel and Marty can't come to a decision yet. But he's not going to get a game from this week, yeah? And what effect does that have? If he can't get his way back into this Sydney side, does that help? Carlton say at the moment there's a gap and the decision that he's sitting on. Carl should be a bit the same by the way too. The clubs that are at the table for him, Melbourne, Collin Wooden, Jolong, don't expect an answer for what it's worth while Melbourne,
up while Hawthorne or Lincoln. I know everyone else is unbiased, which is fair enough. I'll make it clear. You're pretty aware of that. You wouldn't go to Collin Wood ahead of Melbourne. What? Memory, mixed day, Hogan and Charlie West, already there. What I'm talking about opportunity. He plays, I would think he plays every week at Melbourne. Van Royen, Jefferson. And I know where the my check is going to come back and play. No, I tend to agree. You agree? I agree, but we're not proving to what the contract offers are. No, that's not the thing. I don't know any about the money or anything. Or the sell or the present. Yeah, B.L. Yeah, broadly, I agree with that. Is it really necessary for the AFL to crack down on the, quote unquote, loophole that Patrick Voss exploited at the weekend with the waiting in 30 seconds to take his start is run up. And then the Michael Holding style slow motion approach to take another. I'm glad you brought this up. I don't know how long I've been banging on a bit this,
but I will bring it up again. Loophole's like that need to be closed because on a grand final day, he will do that. Stop, turn around and kick at 15 meters backwards. And that loophole remains there. And you're able to do that for the last three minutes of a grand final. How would you close this loophole? If you elect to take the 30 seconds, you must have a legitimate shot at the end. He did. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm talking about the other opposite. Okay, but what about what he did specifically? Yeah, I don't think there's too many issues with that. Right. Like I'm in the end though. Yeah, well, that's a good point. No, they do need to clarify because he can't back to the ground in slow motion. He can't back to the wing and just wait till the 29 second mark and then start walking in for another third. What would you call it? The Cliffy Youngshuffle. Yeah, you do have to close it. Cliffy. The Cliffy. It's a good point. No, it's a... What do you say? What do you introduce then? What's that? What is it that you introduce? What have to be closed that? Close that. Play on. The umpile would have to be prepared to call.
Yeah. Play on. Close back with the original... You're using the four. Exaggerated run-up or instead of being 30 seconds before you start your approach, which is what they're learning now. Maybe it's just 35 seconds until you've got to kick the thing. No matter how long you're... You actually have to kick it. Yeah, and you have to kick a legit shot. Like a shot clock in the end. A legit shot of it. It has to be a kick. Why do we give everybody 30 seconds anywhere though? Why do we settle on 30 seconds? Because otherwise they're taking five minutes to have a breather. Yeah, but at some point, the umpile... At every other part of the ground, except when they're having a shot of goal, the umpile says move on. Okay, time's up. Why can't we have the same thing with kicking for goal? It's arbitrary. Some people will need the 30 seconds. No, no. Everyone gets... Like the umpile just decides what's enough time for you to gather yourself. What if you've been knocked over? Because we could have been knocked over. It's a hard game. It's not quite in the now. No, you take that into consideration. No, it's not arbitrary. 95% of guys lining up. They take their time, they look up at the clock and then they decide how long they're going
to take to... So if you're in the goal square... If you're in the goal square... If you're in the goal square... No, of course you shouldn't. Well, why not? That's what the rules is. No, but this is my point. It should... Too arbitrary. It shouldn't though. Oh, I feel you set us off. Nicely done, boy. I'll figure. Take the rest of this hour off. Damn pop coming in. Just be dated. We're back after this. New Marshall has set us off this morning with a shot clock. Eintingham and Heights. Can I, there, is there? Morning, Gary. Morning, Kim. That's the same call. Yeah, so the shot clock issue, I don't know if it's been mentioned, but my thought on it is too bold. One, you have to be on or inside the 50. Yep. Because I just think that's a nice easy way to delineate. You know, there's no question you either in the... Yeah, the man on the market is not in the 50 or his not. If he's not, you don't get 30 seconds. Secondly, 30 seconds, you have to keep by the 30 second mark, I reckon. Yep. Because that way, you don't get this starting to walk at 29 seconds and you do what Prank
and Pony does and just milk the system. Good, good. Sounds good. Pretty good. Do you want another one, Aisa? Got another one, yeah? No, no, that's one. I say that, you know, the Empire calls play on and it plays a close enough, I put a picture on it, you get 30 seconds to check it. That's where you should get. Nice. Well, that's a nice suggestion. A lot of suggestions coming through, so just stop the clock. The game would go forever. Yeah, forever. That would be the thing. That would be an out and out disaster. I go and putting it to you that the NFL game here on Friday was the greatest promotion of a city and of Australia ever in the history of promoting and marketing our country worldwide. I also put to you that push ahead Pete took four Advil and went to bed early on Friday night. Why? Because he was so disappointed Melbourne turned on such a great show. Correct. Well, have you got a counter view to that which I think you do have? What is it again? Your counter view is that the AFL should not have been letting the NFL in during the finals.
That's your counter view. No, well, my big picture as a sport. You saying that he went to bed a happy man. You're arguing and prosecuting your own case. I'm helping you. If you want an opinion, just have one. No, my big picture as a sports lover knows exactly how beneficial it was. But from an AFL, I'll be looking at a gallon, hang on a minute. They've worn it in here. They've pinched out all their... During finals. Right in the heart of our most important time of our season. They've kicked us off our ground. Well, they didn't kick us off, but you know what I mean? I reckon they'd be a bit. And that is why they are having conversations with the MCC right now about next year. No, right. Let's just see these up. Don't forget who pays the bills. That's what they're saying. Don't forget who pays the bills. This will become a bigger story, I think, as time marches on. And the other part to all this, I don't know whether you caught Roger Goodell, who is the boss of the... Did you ever caught Deva Beelie? No, I didn't. But he also made the point somewhere that what they're hoping to do to expand on this
is introduce flag football. Well, that was the other thing I said to you. Well, they're after the hearts of minds of the kiddies. And I reckon the odds kicker's community is going on in it. So now you're putting this massive game on in finals. And now you're going to take all their kids and Jen, flag football. I'm all for... I love it, right? I love the experience. I love going all that type of thing. But I just can't see where other codes around the world might invite something like this in, right in the middle of the most important time of their year. What I would say to that... Not that they invited them in, but they acquiesced to them coming here. I don't know if they'd much say in it. But I would say this, I'm confident enough and secure enough in our code to say no. We can continue to thrive. We will continue to thrive. We can coexist with flag football if that's what they want to play. I don't reckon the NFL is going to take over the world in Melbourne. That's what they're trying to do. Well, and that is why they're a magnificent organisation. And so they should. But we've got... What I'm saying is, you might be able to go into some other markets that don't have an indigenous game like ours
and have the impact in the future playing community, not here in Melbourne. The NFL will remain the number one game and we can coexist with one of the great world games. Do you know I left the game on Friday with somebody else's code, Jacket. Oh, I got... I got half of what happens when you don't take me. When I'm not with you, you're just like a dithering old man, you know. I got half way to the station. And I put my hand in the pocket of this jacket and I pulled out a pair of sunglasses that went one. Better than yours? No, no, no. It was taken the wrong code. What'd you do? I'd have taken back. Oh, you could go back. How'd it walk back in there? Did you get the train home? Yes, I did. It's repeat that for everyone that was maybe not least. Train travel is a great thing. It's a great train trip from... For a long time. No, for a long time. For which station did you leave? I parked at Brighton Beach Station. Ah, so the rough suburbs of Brighton, you got yourself parked there, yep. I found a car park there and I got off at Richmond station.
Clean? Clean. The car... I had to shout before I left. The train carriage? Yeah, the train travel is... Easy. It's... You don't need a mic here anymore. Yes you do. No, no. Well, what do you mean you don't need a mic? Ch-ch-ch-ch. Oh, you can download it on your phone. No. Credit card. On off. Ch-ch-ch-ch. Well, the mic he worked... Well, of course the mic you will work, but you can now credit card on and off. Are you supposed to flag... Are you supposed to swap it? You got 46 bucks left on your car. Are you supposed to swap it? Are you supposed to swap it on your way onto the... I've never done it. I've never done it. Because I... Yep, you got to swap it on. On, when you hop on. As you go through. On and off. I didn't do the on bit. I did the off bit. That's a disaster. There you go. Where was the last time you traveled on the train? 1984. Melbourne High School. That's a great way... That's a great way to meet people too. Yeah, and it's good to even now got the credit card that you can come on and off with.
Whether up date before bad, whether it's be prepared sign up for any SMS, outage alerts, all at citypower.com.au 15 degrees in Melbourne today. And thumbs up to, I believe, the sharpest sports cameraman in the world. He was at the US Open, right? He waited until the sideline clock showed 0.07 and then he took a cutaway shot at the same time of Pierce Brosnan sitting in the stands. Was it climbing? No, I don't think it was. Tell about that. You reckon he was... Great work. You reckon you sat there waiting and hoped that the tennis went past 12 o'clock? Yeah, well, beautiful still alive. His pier is still here. He's still in the house. He hasn't pierced off yet. Great work. Great work. Let's take a break. Let's take a break. We've had a very, very nice show and our audience has been superb and the temper text is just flying through.
Life's good. 25 degrees on Saturday here in Melbourne for Hawthorne and Brisbane. Yep. Up in Sydney to sell out. And the preliminary finals are going to be massive. So our game is in a ripping shape. We listened to what Tim Watson said last week because this really caught my ear. Breakfast with Gary and Tim. It's all right. I would not believe the conversation I've been having in this ad break. What did you say about the... This thing's flying. Oh no, we're locked in the studio. Looks like you've got three more hours of Gary and the Whistler. I've been the door. Ask a question about the mic gig. I can't wrong-pour. The question for you is if I've only swiped my card once, which somebody said means it off-swiped it on. Does that now assume... Does Mikey now assume that I've been on the train or I've been on public transports in Friday? That's a disaster because that train... Well, I haven't been on it for a while. It's run. You know they're made under bucks. That's how it works. It's a great system.
It is a great system. It works beautifully. Oh, does it? Yeah, no it does. It works beautifully. That's an interesting thing for Tim to say. Do you know, do you hang on, let me play that. Can you play that? Well, I didn't hear this last night. Could we listen to what Tim Watson said last week? Because this really caught my ear. You really caught Carrows here. We're to Gideboo. Oh yeah. We couldn't be closer. We could not be closer than what we carried. When this is like the first pipe. Over here when you ran into it, the coffee shop. Okay, you came back in as Gia, you were white. Just to move on, just before, Jerry, good morning to you. Hello, Tim. Hello, Gary. Don't pull people. It's his team that's rude. Somebody here thinks that people who went to the NFL game won't go again next year. This is only a very small sample size. The husband and wife that I sat alongside on the train on the way out had never been on NFL game before. They said they will be first in line next year to buy their ticket.
They enjoyed the afternoon so much. People who think they're talking for people who actually had the experience are just wrong. That's your own prejudice, which is fine. But everybody I've spoken to. You too. To a man, woman and child. I think it's the best sporting day they've just about ever had. They can't wait for it to happen again. As well as everyone else who had chronic fomo and again, we'll be going next year. Yes. So, it's all like to that crossbow. Don't worry about it. If it's not your thing, don't worry about it. Just leave us to enjoy it on our own. He's one of them too. Well, with our 100,000. That's one of the fans. That's one of the fans. Well, they're like that. Our good friend who we're texting with at the moment who's giving me a lesson in diplomatic relations showing the NFL and the AFL. I've only got one question for him. Did he go? He's talking about like it's better than the landing on the moon. Did he actually go that bloke or not? Well, this is NFL tortoise and invable customer and fan engagement lesson. Only fools ignore it, Gary, and not embrace it.
Was it that good a lesson that you went, that person? That's all I'm asking you. He's going next year. That's all you need to know. Well, you're coming up in your show, George. What should we do today? Look, Hodges, where the software top, leadership portfolio, knows the thing or two about preliminary finals and the teams involved. So, his two teams, Hawthorne and Brisbane are playing at the G. Are you amused by everybody fighting to be the underdogs this weekend? Yep. That was it. The Justin along the art. We are clear on the big underdogs. It's huge favorites, but that's OK. And Rampy came back and said, no, we are. I've got one question, yet. The siren sounds in the grand final. And let's say, Josh Tracy's got the ball. He's marked it at 30 metres out and there's 48 seconds to go. He goes back to the centre. Yeah. At 29 seconds, so therefore there's 19 seconds left on the clock. He then starts his approach and he hadn't kicked the footy before the siren goes. We just go out now. That's the way it's written. There's another one for Swony. I think you've got him tomorrow night.
Yes. You've got him and I've got him and we'll put that to him. Two round the clock all around the arc. Oh, yeah. It's going to be a long show. You're going to double-tune him. Who's playing the good cop who's playing the bad cop? Oh, that's to be determined. Oh, I'm playing the bad cop. Just in case you're one. Your top cast. We'll be back. Tomorrow morning, thanks everyone for being a part of it.
