A proud heart can stare at 99% grace and still complain about the 1% flaw.
0:10
Imagine a beautiful white canvas with a black spot in the middle.
0:17
There will be some people who will look at that and say,
0:20
YAHC, there's an ugly black spot in the middle.
0:27
Once upon a time, we had someone in my spiritual community who saw himself as a born critic.
0:33
It seemed like he believed that this was a divine call to tear people down.
0:40
Believe me, it was so draining to talk to him.
0:43
After every prayer meeting, he'd talk to anyone who'd care to listen about how lousy the leaders were.
0:50
There are a bunch of hypocrites or how lousy the music was or how lousy the talk was.
0:57
And without any evidence, he'd say the community funds are being misused.
1:02
In reality, people like him also don't like themselves.
1:09
But they sometimes hide it behind their outward arrogance and anger.
1:14
Instead of stepping back to admire the vast expanse of white,
1:19
the grace, the miracle, the good, their pride zeroes in on the tiny dot and they scream,
1:27
YAHC, there's an ugly black spot.
1:31
A proud heart refuses to celebrate the good and becomes obsessed with finding a flaw.
1:41
And that connects our powerful gospel in Luke 11.
1:45
Jesus delivers a man from bondage, a miracle happens right in front of everyone.
1:51
But instead of rejoicing, some people twist it and say,
1:55
he's doing this by the power of the devil.
1:58
These people saw freedom.
2:00
They called it darkness.
2:03
They labeled it evil.
2:06
That is what pride does.
2:09
A hardened heart starts mislabeling God's work.
2:15
A hardened heart cannot celebrate.
2:17
It cannot be grateful.
2:19
It must find a flaw.
2:23
It must poison the room.
2:25
And here's the danger.
2:27
When you keep calling light dark,
2:29
you gradually lose your ability to recognize light.
2:35
So what is the cure?
2:39
Humility steps back and says, Lord, thank you for the 99% white.
2:46
Humility says, before I criticize, I will pray.
2:51
Humility says, I will be part of the solution,
2:55
not a professional problem finder.
2:58
Friend, discernment is very, very good.
3:01
Synicism is a sickness.
3:04
Correction can be very holy,
3:07
but accusation without love is from the devil.
3:12
So today, let's ask God to heal our eyes and our heart,
3:19
because grateful people see grace everywhere
3:22
and proud people see flaws everywhere.
3:26
Here's my big question.
3:28
Answer in the comments below.
3:30
Tell me, what's one area
3:33
in your life where you've been focusing
3:37
on the black dot instead of the white canvas?
3:41
Is it your family, is it your work, your church, ministry,
3:45
yourself, even yourself?
3:46
Yes, all you think about are your flaws.
3:49
And yes, what's the one thing
3:51
that you can thank God for today in that specific area?
3:55
My friends, if this message blesses you

4:36
Lord, forgive me for the times I would focus on what is lacking,
4:41
the flaws, instead of first of all saying thank you
4:46
for all the blessing and all the grace and all the mercy
4:50
and all the favor that you have shown upon me.
4:52
Give me a grateful heart that sees what you're doing
4:57
that recognizes grace.
4:59
Lord, make me a builder, not a destroyer.
5:05
I'm claiming this in Jesus' mighty name.
