Howie Roseman was on the WIP Morning Show today. And they asked him and he said something that I felt like it spoke to me.

5:07And I don't, yeah, howie's obviously great GM does a great job. But I don't usually hear Howie say something that speaks to me. And they asked him about the conclusion that Coach Seireani came to about needing a change on offense and their decision to hire Sean Manion. And here's what Howie said. Yeah, we needed to change. He understood that we needed to change, obviously, where we were last year. Not the standard that we're trying to set here. I've said it before, that San Francisco home playoff loss. There's not many games in the time that I've been here that were more disappointing than that loss. And the opportunity we had with the home playoff game in front of our fans. And so I think it started with him. I know it started with him. And when we went out and we were looking for a vision. I want you to think of two possessions.

9:13One from the Eagles and one from the other team. I would rather score a touchdown and turn it over on the next possession, then go three and out and then have the other team also go three and out. Because in my version of it, we score seven at the very worst we give up seven, but we might even give up three and we might give up zero. So we are plus and in Elliott's version and potentially a lot of last year coach Sireani's version is zero zero zero zero zero zero. So I am giving and I did say this yesterday and I will say it until the cows come home. If we take last year's Jalen Hurts year, I think what was he? 25 and 6? Is something like that? Good numbers. For every touchdown he throws, he gets to throw another interception. I don't care. Ten more touchdowns, you get to throw ten more interceptions. Fifteen more touchdowns, fifteen more interceptions. I want the fear, I want you to get comfortable with turning the football over as long as they score more points. Because what does how he say? There it is.

10:14Are you get comfortable with it, Ike? Well, protecting the football is also well, but what's the number one thing? We want to score more points. Come on, Ike. Trust the defense. Let's turn over. You turn the ball over here and there, whatever. So I'm caught in between. Yes. Because even I want him to be a little more, a little less risk of verse. Right. Even I can say that, but, but not reckless. No, not reckless. Maybe a little reckless. Yes, reckless is bread far. Like, yes. You just throw the ball up. It's almost like those two guys are playing the same sport. I'm not worried about Jalen being more like bread far. I actually wouldn't mind Jalen being more like Brock Pertie. I really wouldn't. I wouldn't mind if this offense is more efficient. I like to say the thing with turnovers is what always gets presented to me is we have

11:15a good defense. Why do you want to wear it? But my point always is that's why I'm not so worried about turning the ball over. As long as, now, it can't be 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. It can't be the same amount of touchdowns. But if we're going to generate more offense for every touchdown we score, I'm okay giving the ball away for every touchdown we score because I know the other teammates score and touchdown all those possessions. There may be half, maybe they get a field goal here and there that the number say it averages out to about three per interception. That's why it's so just uncomfortable. Tell Jalen to throw more in her. I'm less, no, we're not going to tell him to throw more in his assumptions. I'm less concerned. In the game, it's more about when the turnovers happen. That's really what it's about. I think you can overcome a turnover in the first quarter. He throwing interception hell Nick false throwing interception in the Super Bowl. Right. Jalen threw the interception in the first ball. And this year's Super Bowl, you're right.

12:16I forgot about that. And still one damn near 30 points, 40 points wherever it was. So yeah, I'm good with that with that aspect of it. You get an ad red zone. You get late in the game. I just think he's going to he's I think his instincts will revert him back to who he naturally is, which is protecting the football. We just got to getting to go early in the game where he can take some of those chases. 215 592 94 90 for you. Okay. With Jalen throwing more interceptions this year as long as they score more points for everyone one one ratio. That's where I'm fine with as long as we build on last year. I was something you said there that I thought is really important. You said late in the game, you want him to be, you know, the smart Jalen, the Jalen we know. But it's worth noting that late in the game, I think Jalen probably lets it fly when they need to score points more than he usually does. And they're good at end of games. I think Jalen actually thrives throwing the football when he knows they need to score.

13:18Right. Yes. And I think there's a certain fear is the wrong word. I mean, Mars is down the field in that 49ers game. He did. Yeah, Mars is down the field. And I think I think part of it, again, I think fear is the wrong word. I don't think he's afraid of turnovers. But I do think they, he pounds it into his own head or coach Ciri Annie pounds it into his head. Don't turn it over, don't turn it over, don't turn it over. And finally, when he's in a situation where he can't worry about a turnover, all the sudden the offense moves down the field at a way that they have trouble doing earlier in the game. And I think it is because he is less worried about giving the team the ball. But you know, like I do, those turnovers come and if it starts causing them games, the reaction to that is not going to be what at least he was aggressive and he threw the football. Sure. Yeah. But that's for sure. I mean, he has not the reaction. You need the positive along with the negative, I think. And you know, one thing, Elliott and I argued about yesterday was he said, well, if they had turned it over one less time in that charger's game, they would have won the game.

14:19And I said, how many times they'd turn it over? Elliott said five. Okay. Well, if they'd scored five more touchdowns, would they have won the game even with the five turnovers? And the answer is yes. Yes. So look, it has to work where he has to become more successful throwing the ball and he has to throw for the more touchdowns too. But I'm okay with turnovers. I'm glad that how he said it. I wonder if internally that is a because how he's a, how he's a numbers guy, right? If he looks at it like, look, you know, we need to score more points. And I think Nick Sireani and Elliott is right has won a lot of games doing it the way that they're doing it. But I think there's a way they can do it and do it better. And I think I think that is part of it. So two on five, five, nine, two, ninety, four, ninety four, are you all right with more interceptions if it means more touchdown? So then we go to the Phillies. We have a fight. It is a big Phillies game today. I'm a monster Phillies game, not just because they can sweep the diamond backs, which is a big deal because they're one of the teams they're fighting with for that wild card spot. I think the Phillies are actually in the number one wild card spot as of this morning.

15:22But the bigger deal is 16 and four because when they were bad, I had a meltdown and I said I hated everything about the Phillies. Hated them, hated them. Still can't believe that. That meltdown didn't go viral. I know. Well, that's the one thing we decided not to clip. And it's actually probably good because what I said was because I think you said they went five or no, you'll be back in. Yeah. I said, no, I said, they got to rip off 16 of the next 20 and they answered by winning nine in a row and they have gone 15 and two so far. 15 and two. So with a win today, they win the 16th and they get it. And here's what I have on my shoulders. On one shoulder, I have a devil. And on the other shoulder, I have an angel. And the devil's telling me, wheelers back. Sanchez is back. Painter figured it out. Nola figured it out. They're patient. Look at the season prices have and they're playing station to station baseball. This is the team. They're getting hot at the right time. And then I have the angel and the other shoulder saying, spike, you've been here before.

16:26We've all been here before. And you know that no matter how hot the bats are, no matter how much these guys figure it out, no matter how great the pitching is, is that these guys are going to make some dumb decision. One of these games are going to throw it to the wrong base. They're going to run to the wrong base or something like that and they're going to disappoint you. So I want to listen to the devil on the shoulder, telling me to believe in the Phillies. But then I realize that's the devil. And on the other shoulder, the angel is really trying to lead me to the promised land, which is to stay guarded. Now I know if they win today, I'm going to have to believe in them, but I have to tell you I still feel a little nervous about it. You sure you don't have these spirits mixed? No, no, no, it is the devil telling me to believe. That's the dangerous part. That will tell you to believe. Yes. Yes. Are you like off the 21 and seven, I think in August, the Bryce is hitting at an MVP level. Like where are you? I'm worried about. Are we using it all up now? Well, that's the jack.

17:26That's the picking to it. That's the only thing I'm worried about is are we using all of it up now? Can they carry this another month? August was outstanding. Best record in baseball in August. Can they carry it for another two months? They just threw September and carried this hot streak, this new way of playing into October. That's the only thing. I think this team has it, man. Oh, you're listening to the devil. The devil's doing this. You can't see me, but I think they have it, man. I think they have it. They do. You think this is the year? I do, man. I do. They have the juice. They do, man. I look, they got the pitching. I know if Sanchez and Willer gets it and Sanchez looks like he's back now. Yes, yes. He looks like he's back. We'll have one good start. It's only one, but looked a lot more like Zach Wheelland. So yeah, and I think the hitting, I don't want the hitting.

18:27I think it's the hitting is something that they don't have to deviate from. But they always do. Yeah. Well, swarver is going to be swarver. Yes. Swarver is going to be swarver. What are you about? Bryce doesn't seem like he's swinging for the fences. No. Like he's just putting a ball in play wherever it is. I think he only have four or five home runs in August. That's not bad. I mean, four or five home runs over six months. That's 25 or 30 home runs. That's where it right where he's at. But he has been, and I will give Bryce credit here in that I always want him to be more of a leader, right? And he's not a speaking leader. He's a set by example. He's a leader by example. And every time he goes to take that extra base in a dumb spot, I think that's bad leadership. But if you want the entire team to sort of buy into this more patient approach, where starters out, he's done an excellent job of that. Ever since they traded for a rise. I mean, he has, he's walked, I mean, I think his on base percentage in August was 500, which is insane. You know, here's the other thing. You got the bottom of the line up, that middle part, the the starts, the bones.

19:32Those guys are now starting to have, they got all to such a slow start. For now, the averages start to average out and they're in the hot streak. Now, can you get Mars going a little bit? Mars going a little bit. JT has sown some power and seemed like he's got his legs under him. I love what he said the other day that it's that time of the year. It's that time of the year. I love that he talked about catching the braves. Yeah. We're not going to catch the braves without me in the lineup. Yeah. You know, I thought that that's good. And I love the, see now they have that care in front of them. You see him bringing up catching the braves says to me, they want this division. They obviously could use the, the games at home. So they want that. But I love the fact they're not saying, aren't we not worried about catching the braves? We're just worried about us playing good baseball and we're trying to continue that. We know you're doing that, but having that carrot in front of you, I think is a great motivating factor for this team. And they know those seven games against the braves are coming up. Yes.

20:32They know it. They know that those games at those seven and we could go five and two in those seven. You may swing this whole thing in your favor and you can be in first place afterwards. Well, and they have two things to play for now. They have the division, but they also have if they, it most likely they play the Cubs in that first round. So if they are the, the better wild card team, all three games are here at CBP. Right. And if the Cubs are, then all three games are at regularly. And they call the Cubs. Well, yes, yes. Right. They're ahead of the Cubs, but they're right there. Yep. And even if the division, because I agree with you, I think one of the things that fill these need is they need to play through the end of the year. And I think even if it's not the braves, even if the division becomes there, that goal of finishing ahead of the Cubs, that way they get the wild card games at home is important. Yes, sir. Two, one, five, five, nine, two, ninety four, ninety four, Cory and Columbus, you're on WIP. What's up, Cory? My God. What's up? What's up, dude? What's up, see? Well, well, well, welcome back. Yes, sir. Hey, man, look, so let me talk to you for a second.

21:34So, so spike on the whole point thing. I think you and Elliott will be funny. I think you guys both kind of agree on the same thing, but you're just describing it differently, right? I think everybody would agree and want to team to score more points. If you say you don't think the team, you gotta be a fool or idiot if you don't want to team to score more points, right? But I think, I think what Elliott is trying to say different from what you're trying to say is that you're trying to say I'm willing to like, if he wants to go, you know, ball to the wall to score points, that's what I want, that's what these other teams do. I think Elliott is approach is like, yeah, if we can score points in this conservative way or the way that we do it, I just don't want us to be out there reckless with the football and hopes of scoring more points. You know, I think that's like what the differentiating factor is when it comes to the more points argument. But I get what how he's coming from to like, oh, to office, we want to do this, we want

22:37to do that. But I think like where the like the reluctancy comes from like with Elliott and even like some of us fans and even probably, I can say maybe even you and I, like the EGWIS has had so much success over the past couple of years. And I know last year, it office didn't work 2024. It was like, you know, historic runoff since, but I think the way we're viewing it is like you're trying to jump on a trend saying like, oh, we're trying to score more points, do this, do this. But that hasn't been your way of success. And it's like when you do that and you're not successful, now you can't just start playing blame how we and whoever, oh, is this guy's fault, is that guy's fault? And Nick Serionion hurts the way that they were doing it. I get it might not have been flashy. It might not have been, you know, 30, 40 points of game, 25, whatever. But it was getting you super balls, two super balls, playoff, you know, appearances. If this doesn't and we're turning the ball over, but let's say we average and, you know,

23:38we score 26 points of game, but we, we wrestled with the football, you know, but just a new offense. You want the answer for that because I'm saying right now, I mean, it hurts us throwing 35 touchdowns and 14 in the section, we going to be cool with that, right? But if he throwing 25 touchdowns, 26 touchdowns and 14 in the section, I don't know if we going to be cool with that. Yeah. I agree, but that's on, that goes to, and I don't mean to turn this into a jail in conversation, but just goes into the belief in whether he can get better at what they want him to get better at because that's what would happen if he gets better at it. If he doesn't get better at it, then we'll get the same offensive production with more turnovers and that, that remains to be seen. We can all guess as to how successful he's going to be doing this, but it's all guessing, it's all educated guessing. We all have our guesses. But what I would say to your thing about how they've won before and I hate to make this comparison because he was ultimately a failure here, but Chip Kelly got to the league and

24:39he had this thing that he did that worked in the beginning, everything figured it out, and he couldn't adjust. He didn't adjust and he didn't have a counter and then all of a sudden the league figured it out, all of a sudden this flashy offense wasn't flashy anymore. And I think to, now we have been to suit two super rules and one one and that's different than Chip, but I think the, the, the, the rule remains the same in that if, if defenses are adjusting to you, and this is what Sireoni said in that article last week in Yahoo, is that defenses were adjusting to us and they were stopping what we were doing so we needed other stuff. So I just think this offense needs to continue to evolve and I think being, being worried that it's not going to be as successful as the thing was before, I can tell you that thing before was, we can point to 24, but we can also point to 25, which is more recent than 24 and the truth is probably somewhere in between, but I do think they need to change. I don't think they continue to do it the way they did it. Right. And that's why I said I think that the argument on both sides is the same kind of like,

25:41it's like, like I said, we all, everybody want to score more points, but like, I think more like my reluctance to see comes from the even each one of points, like how are you, you going out here like, oh, we got to do this. This is the offense we want to run. If this guy can't do this, he has to evolve his game. I know what he came and said that, you know, this is not a maker, I make a, I know he said all that, but it's like the vibe though action speak louder than words. That's what you said, but action speak louder than words. And we see what you trying to push out there. So it's like, okay, so you're saying that you're willing to just put all your eggs in a shamanian basket. That's like putting all your eggs in chip Kelly basket instead of putting your eggs in the Andy Reed, Mignade basket. That's it. If you want to go back to that because it's like shamania had no success. Like Andy Reed and Mignade with the way they doing it. I know obviously I'm just using the comparison like it ran his course, but it was still successful to an extent. Sure. I think I have one year. Yep. Yep. Yeah. I look at it this way, Corey and Spike.

26:42I know we focus a lot on Jaylen. He's the quarterback. Obviously we focus on him. But if I'm just looking at the all fence in general, scoring more points, I can get more touchdowns from Saquon, right? You can get more touchdowns running the football. I look back at our quarterbacks that we've had. And most quarterbacks that we've had play here, even when they had the great years, good years have thrown around 2526 touchdowns. I don't think Donovan, I think five through 31, one year to the T.O. Year in O4. What? Vic throwing is almost MVP year. I think 22 or 23. Really? That's it. Paul's had the 27. Paul's had 27 and two. Yeah. However many games that was 13 games. Yeah. And wins had the one year he had. But other than that, most of the quarterbacks have been in that mid 20 range with the touchdowns. The reason why the points have been higher is because the running game has also been a big factor in that and scoring. Sure. Thank you for the call, Corey. Something that happened, 2 Pock related, while you were gone, is the conviction of the gentleman who said that he orchestrated. Yeah, it was been bragging on podcasts for the last eight years. Yes. He instructed his nephew Orlando Anderson to shoot 2 Pock. I think it was pretty much an open, everybody kind of new. I got a new yes. Yes, certainly that Orlando Anderson pulled a trigger. But then since KVD has been saying that he orchestrated it. Yes, I'm a proffer where he couldn't be charged. Yes. He kept going on and on about it and put it in a damn book. That's how they came back and got it. Yes. And it's kind of funny, the defense was he was just saying like, he was just, you know, big talk. He didn't really have to. He didn't really have it. Yeah, he did. Yes, he did. He weighed too many details. Yes, so I guess he's going to appeal it.

32:56He blans to appeal it, but he could get life in prison. And Orlando Anderson, I think, was killed in 98. Yeah. Yeah, it has been a while. And there are some, if you're interested in a lot of breakdowns and all the connections to, you know, to shug and to diddy and all that kind of stuff that happened. Yeah, dude, I, yeah, I followed that case years ago. Yeah, I just wondered like they just don't want to arrest the person who murdered two partners. Like you have all this evidence and this guy is still out here talking. So I guess what had happened was KVD in it, in a, when he was talking to police, he said it, but in that conversation, nothing that he said was admissible. So he said what happens. But then he again, he just, just bragged about it. Yes. They got him. Good lesson to you. If you commit a crime, maybe don't brag about it on podcast. That's probably a don't put it in your book. I tell him to pick me out and outfit that he would wear. How about that? I buy it and I come, how do you think I would look in the Jalen style? What? You need, you need, you need, you gotta have the Jalen sweatshirt. Was it say Hertz so good? Love Hertz? Love Hertz, that's it. Love Hertz, gotta have that on. Yeah, yep, yep. Yeah. Everything he tells me to buy, I would buy. Yeah, I come in doing it. Wow. That would be, can you imagine Jalen shows up? There's no kid, there's no friend.

36:01It's just me. You think he, you think he, you think he knows you? I don't think so. Did he mess up Elliott's name on purpose? So I don't, did you, did you hear it? I just heard it, yes. I don't think he messed it up on purpose. So look, every time Elliott's on the show, I'm going to say he messed it up on purpose. But I think I truly, and I won't admit this to Elliott, he only brought up two names. Yes, he knows both guys. And the fact now, he did say Elliott short whatever his name is. That is inescapable. The audio is inescapable. Yep, I already did. But if I were Elliott, I would take it as a, like a, a badge of honor. Badge of honor. Yes. That he mentioned him. Yes. But he did get the name wrong. He did. He got through the name and then he realized he couldn't remember the last name. The last part of it. Whatever, whatever. Yes, it's short. Whatever his name is. Of course he knows who Elliott is. Yeah.

37:02He only got given grades out. Yes. On Jalen every practice. There's no way Jalen has an insane at least one of the grades. Exactly. Yeah. I don't think Jalen is obsessive. I don't think he's AJ. I don't think he's obsessively staring at Twitter or whatever. But the guy's been grading him for just five years now. But we have five years now. Yeah. When you start the math, the math I use is this seven to seven, right? The touchdown passes seven. I'm not going to get two into the dork numbers. But there is a stat called EPA, which is expected points for everything that happens on the field.

38:02EPA basically says for every interception, you subtract two or three points, two to three points, depending on the team, the defense, the situation. So if I'm saying one touchdown, that is plus seven, one interception, that is minus three, that is plus four in those two things. That's why I want it. Before we get to leading off, there was another Rich Paul continues to do podcasts with Max Callerman. And you remember, we had talked about one where what was the JoL thing he talked about? There was some JoL thing that was not a positive JoL thing. And it was mostly Max Callerman talking about it, but it was Rich Paul sitting there for it. So here is another one that came out this week. M.B.D. When he was on the Olympic team, not like he said, I thought this was super interesting. That was talking about when the best players get together, everyone's got the cars and the watches and the money, the way they really have the way they can compete and impress each other is by who works the hardest. And that was not M.B.D. at all.

39:04It was the opposite for M.B.D. according to Scal what he was hearing. Isn't that a problem for the Sixers or does LeBron get on and does LeBron help fix that? No, I've heard nothing but great things about JoL. Well, this summer I heard he's in the best shape he's been in, he's been healthy all summer. So what Scal is saying, normally, yeah, that is the case. I've been around a ton of USA teams. So yeah, but I don't think so in this case. So Rich Paul does say everything he's heard this summer is that JoL is, my issue is like even engaging in the conversation I think is trouble. The public conversation about just letting Max Kellerman and really everything Max Kellerman said is everything we've always heard in any of these pods is everything we've always heard. But just engaging in that conversation LeBron's agent is doing that and I know you'll say

40:10well, he's Max, he's agent two and he's Knurse's agent two, but they weren't having all of these conversations. It didn't matter as much when before LeBron was here and I just, I think about it this way, if I'm JoL and beat and I'm listening to that podcast and I'm saying, come on. Okay, what are you talking about? Yeah, yeah, and you know, it's it's not that. Did he try to say that DC wasn't working out with the guys in the Olympics? That he was saying Max Kellerman said that Brian Scalibrini said that the book on JoL in that Olympic run is that JoL was not working very hard. Now at the time JoL was hurting, I don't know, but I just think the whole conversation, like these conversations, conversations about his work ethic and questioning this and questioning that, Rich Paul is going to continue to do these podcasts, but all I know is, is that LeBron was on the Lakers, Rich Paul was busy on his podcast trying to get Austin Reeves traded, who was on the Lakers. And I just think this team needs with all of the compromise that is needed between everyone,

41:12they just need everything pulling in the same direction. And as LeBron, there's going to be so much nonsense, they can't control, they can't control national TV shows, they can't control us, they can't control podcasts, they can't control reporters. What they can't control is what they say and do and what their agents say and do. And this, I don't know how it helps anything. Maybe it doesn't hurt anything at the moment, but it just sort of a window into what could be. And I would say unless you're speaking positively about Joel and Pete and the great, you're thinking about how many advantages will there's line up half over their opponents. Like you should already put things in the atmosphere that are positive. LeBron hasn't even stepped in the locker room yet with these guys. And here we got you two sitting here, breaking down the face of the franchise and talking about whether or not he works hard and John Aparno from Scalibron and he said it, the Olympics was two years ago whenever that was.

42:14And now you're talking about this in a subtle way of putting that out there about Joel and Pete. I don't see the benefit in doing that. I just don't see how you do that. You wouldn't do that with Maxi. Right. You know what I'm saying? Like you wouldn't do that with Maxi. So why are you guys sitting around, sitting around on a podcast, discussing LeBron's new teammates in this manner? I don't hear you discussing whether Nick Nurses on the hot seat and that is a good question. Right. Nick Nurses has won one playoff series since it's been two playoff series since it's been here. Hasn't been passed a second round just like everybody else. Every other coach at this point would be like you have the best, you have the best roster, plenty of people saying best roster in the NBA. You should, you know, and if it was, if they were 15 and 13, everybody would be talking about firing that coach. So I don't hear you having that conversation. Right. I just don't get it. And, you know, Rich Paul thing he slick with this because I know him in Maxi, he got to get before his podcast. Yeah. This is what we're going to talk about.

43:15Is this any other way? Rich Paul isn't sitting there just called off guard by stuff Maxi. Whoa. What are you talking about, Joe? And it's recorded. So if he wasn't comfortable with anything that Max brought up, they could have just called it, you know, so. Yeah. Yeah. I'm man. Yeah. Yeah. Why does Rich Paul need a podcast?
