1:00Welcome to the March 6th, 2026 edition of the Jetsa Noon podcast. I'm Cam Poitris, alongside my co-host Jim Toepere broadcast live every single weekday on 680 C.J.O.B from downtown Winnipeg, where we talk everything to do. And about the Winnipeg Jets. And it's free for all Friday. That just so happens to fall on the biggest day on the NHL calendar outside of the playoffs. Of course, NHL trade deadline date with the clock ticking towards the deadline. And Jim and I react to all the moves around the league. And what they could mean for Winnipeg, including that mammoth deal that sent Logan Stanley and Luke Shen to the Sabers for forward prospect Isaac Rosen, defenseman Jacob Bryson, and Buffalo's second round pick in 2027, as well as a conditional fourth round pick in 2026. What do you think of the hall? Are you excited to see what Rosen can do? He has 25 goals and 43 points in 37 games for the AHL's Rochester Americans. Not bad. Now, that all happened after a resounding win by the Winnipeg Jets over the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1.

We have to play playoff hockey, and that's usually everybody stepping up and playing a role, and maybe sometimes it's, you know, doing some things that are, you know, like you said, different guys are stepping up and doing things at key times, and that's what it takes. If we're going to, you know, we're trying to make a run at this, and that's only we can do it. We just have one line going and, you know, four or five others, and it has to be everybody for us to have success. 3:04because we are dismantled the lightning. Yes, they did. They did. Took him to the wood shed. Yeah, because I was on record, and I will repeat how I felt after the Chicago. I felt after the Chicago minute, please, Tampa. How I felt after the Chicago game, I was not happy, um, fell a lot better last night about how the team played. It took advantage of, uh, mistakes that Tampa made, um, but the Jets were the better team. Yeah, they were. And I, I'm glad you pointed that out. I thought Tampa wasn't at their optimal, but they were still pretty good, but they were a little sloppy, a little careless, and the Jets took advantage. We said with this eight game homestand started, and we used the gym carry code from Dumb and Dumber. So you're saying there's a chance. So you're saying there's a chance. Yeah. I'm going to make two points, because the Tampa and the Colorado's are the ones that I don't think anybody gives them a chance against, sorry, that was me. And then, um, I was just trying to totally screw with your thought that you were trying to make. It's locked. How have you done? Did you, if you've been able to go through it?

4:05So like I said, the price of wheat means that the whole grain sales, well, when the barley harvest comes in, what was I saying? Was I talking about that seven samurai when the right, they're worried about, they already lost their rights harvest. They had to make sure they got the barley. If you can't stand the heat, the fork in the road will be the wind in your face. What is it? Something like that. Yeah. Um, but because I think Tampa and Colorado are the ominous ones. Yeah. Now, you cannot have a letdown against Vancouver. You have got to beat the Vancouver canucks. Uh, yes. Uh, yes. You know what else stands out to me that no one's talking about, cause it's really dead line of anything else. They went to overtime twice in California. They get two overtime goals. They're five points back. Are you saying that then they beat Vancouver on Saturday? There's a chance. There's three points. So you're saying that the, uh, I'm just, the window is opened. The window is opening. I'm, here's what I'm saying. I know a lot of people don't want them to win anymore games.

5:05I know a lot of people want them to pick in the top three. I don't think if they get in the playoffs, they're built to go far anyway. So I'm not holding out hope for that either way. You never know. But for, for a team that, I mean, this whole tank idea for the, I'm sorry. That's loser mentality. You're a loser. Let's be bad. Let's play poorly. Let's get another pick that might in three years help us. It, sorry to be offensive. It's free for all Friday though. Yeah. You got to think about it. Yeah. You think of what company you're working at right now and they say, Hey, our stock price is a little too high. Can you make sure our product doesn't fit right? So we can maybe lower the, you know, whatever. Anyway, I'm being ridiculous. But this is fascinating because you do not want the whole feeling of that 11 game losing streak going on at the most important time of the year. Well, if they're going to make a push here, Jim, I mean, the reality of it is is they, they have to make the playoffs because if they finish just outside of the playoffs, regardless

6:08of it's a tank mentality, I never for a tank mentality, but that's a worst case scenario for this team. Yeah. And it made, okay, so if you're not going to make the playoffs optimally, you're best to be in the top five draft pick, but you can't have an organization that's dealt that way. And if you look at how they played last night in the comments in the post game, they're not giving up, which I think if you're a fan, albeit you want to first overall pick, I get that. You don't want them to have given up. Say Tampa pounds of eight one last night. Are you happy to be a Jets fan? You don't want them to give up. That's what I mean. So, I mean, it's different if they fight hard, play hard and they lose four, three last night, don't get any points. I get that some Jets fan, but it just, I've never had the mentality and maybe it's because I've been on a lot of losing teams at the lowest level of teams. I'm not trying to compare myself anything to anything near professional, but I've been on such losing teams throughout my life that I, the whole idea that you just go and just,

7:09well, this is bad that they won. That is the last thing you want in your organization. I'll tell you this, Kim, it's a cancer when that sets in. This hour is brought to my wash method Buffalo when they actually did it. When they rested five or six healthy guys and brought up a ton of NHH, AHLers, and then they ended up with the second overall pick and didn't get Conor McDavid. How bad the, ask that question. How bad that set back the sabers? Well, now they have a chance to make the playoffs finally after all those years. 8:12For those of us who have been jet spans in 79, we're kind of sick of the mushy middle. I am torn watching a game against tap a bay cheering on the just every goal realizing it's hurting our chances of ever climbing out of the middle. But at any rate, that's not even why I called I called about the big trade. Can I just tell you I'm not in love with the mushy middle? Sure. You just said, you know, you've got to keep winning and you'd rather finish just outside the playoffs as long as you're trying. That's the worst thing that can happen to us. So why don't why aren't you happy with the win last time? Why don't they give up? That's what you want to see for the next 20 games as a team that comes out there, turns over a ton of pox. And also, are you buying a ticket to watch it if they give up? I can't afford to take it if they're Stanley Cup contenders. That's a different issue altogether. Okay. I've been to two games this year. Both tickets were given to me. I used to be a season ticket holder for eight years. Well, that's a different issue, Jim. The trade.

9:13So, and I know, speaking of Jim, I know you don't like Stanley, but here's a guy. I'm sorry, dude. Excuse me. I don't want to keep interrupting you. Do you listen to the show? I listen to the promo where you openly mock him, referring to him as the next Scott Neater Mire. I don't know if they do that just to just so you don't listen to the show because I've been defending Logan Stanley since the day he was drafted. I'm out so of eye, but always sounds like you're being a little sarcastic when you do it. When? When have I sounded sarcastic, other than that promo where I made a joke? Well, I guess I hear the promo all the time. I only hear you show a couple of Jeff Jeff keep it. Go ahead. Go ahead. What do you want to say? We're not. What are we going to do? We're going to replace the toughness. We didn't deal and I thought we're in trouble. Now we lose. No, Shen had to go, but the only thing he can do is fight and you got Stanley. So that leaves Adam Warrie is the only guy on the team who could throw a punch. Well, I mean, this isn't 1975, but we still need toughness, especially if we want to be

10:16in the playoffs. Well, I mean, the whole narrative of this whole year, Jeff, has been that they're just too slow, right? And I understand. I don't think the door is totally closed on Logan Stanley coming back. I mean, he hasn't set a contract as of this moment with the Buffalo Sabers. He's going to become a UFA data this year. I don't think that the door is totally closed on him coming back to Winnipeg. He wanted to stay here. I don't think that that's an option, but let's talk about the trade. Okay. I like the right winger we're getting. Yeah. And also, thank you very much to Danielle Bain with TSN for sending out the pronounce. Sir, Esauk, Roseyn, I think I'm saying that right now. So he's coming in. This is a guy over 43, he has 43 points over 37 games and 25 goals in the A.H.L. But what I've been reading about him, he still has to work on his defensive side of the game. But listen, he's producing unlike some of the other prospects that Winnipeg Jets have in the A, Esauk, Roseyn, he is, he's actually putting up numbers over a point per game in

11:19the A.H.L. He's shown not bad in the National Hockey League, but in a young skilled top six for the Buffalo Sabers, there's just not, there's not space for him and he's a top six player. He's going to come into this team and I, I, we might see him tomorrow against it. Would you be surprised if we saw him tomorrow against him? I think it's going to come into that. And I think the key part of the trade is that there's not a guy in the moose like him. So there's not a guy in the moose who's producing 45 points and 37 games. There's not even, not even amongst the veterans. Okay. So you have him coming in. That's, and also you bring in Jacob Bryson, he's coming in. He's going to sort of shore up the depth because you're losing two veterans. You bring in another guy who's played, you know, almost 300 games in the National Hockey League. You also get the second and the fourth round pick that you traded away to get Luke Shen. So this, this trade as far as I'm concerned, takes a lot of boxes for the Winnipeg Jets. I think you keep that window open to resign and bring back Logan Stanley, depending on how things, how things occur, maybe Philly Hainela comes back and he looks awesome.

12:20And you're saying, let's have him on the, have him on the bottom here, but you might decide to keep him as well. You've basically rented Shen. You got back what you paid for him. So basically rented Shen for a year and a half. You've basically recouped your first round pick that's NHL ready as opposed to an actual pick in the Rosen kid. Yeah. Cause he's a former first round pick who's now apparently ready. And also this is why you got another pick. And this is what the Winnipeg Jets need to do. They have a guy that has, that doesn't, you know, he's still at an entry level deal. He's not, he doesn't have any trade protection and he's a bit of a risk to come in here and play in the top six. This is exactly what the Winnipeg Jets need to do. And I, I, I don't think you can poke holes on this. I think this was a great, I think this was a great trade for the Jets and I think it fills a lot of the, what they need. I think it's a good trade. What it does though is show what they have to go after as far as creations and signing and so on. Yeah. And a little bit of size and a little bit of a trucky one. But this is just the beginning, right? Like to get what they got for what they gave up to expiring contracts and I, I don't think

13:24they're going to sign Stanley in the office season because I think if they, if they were willing to pay or Stanley was willing to take what they were, the numbers they were talking, he wouldn't have been traded. But he clearly wasn't. He needs to make some money. Well, yeah, he's 27 years old and he's made no money and he's, he's barely got a resume other than this year. Yeah. True. Cash in now. So I understand why they ask us high in the Jets. Obviously, they want to meet it. Thanks for the call, Jeff. Appreciate it. I like it. Thanks. Yeah, have a good one. Let's go to Rain all day. 14:24were much quicker out of our zone. The guys played with more speed. Why? Yes. Stanley and Shen were not there. When you watch Shen, my god, he had a hard time skating getting to that puck and making that outlet pass in our zone. Same thing with Stanley. Yeah. Okay. Had a breakout year. Okay. Fine. Is it going to happen next year? Not sure. But that's what I noticed last night is the young speed back there. The outlet passes were crisp. They were to the man on the blade and out. And that's the difference. You know, you know what? I'll take it one step further, Reynolds is, and Scott, are you going to mention this in the pregame show? So they had seven days to practice. And they practiced on the six on five. They go down to California and they get two six on five goals. They practiced their exits. And we talked about this prior to the Olympic break. There's no time to change a system. There's no time to work on the things that are planned.

15:24Because they're playing three and four games a week because the Olympic break and traveling. I think the way they exited last night was because they had a practice. They had seven practices before they came back and they worked on the things that they do well. And it looked like they did well last night. And even the other games in California, they had some let down. But they were up to nothing three one. They exited better. Like, this is the system, right? And they finally had time to work on it. Reynolds, thanks a lot. We got it. I'm going to give you a gig. Take 10 sacks. But then I got to let you go. Yeah. Well, I'll go 50, 50 on the practice time. I think a lot of it is Shannon's family. That's what I say. That's your opinion. Yeah. Much quicker. I think, I think, yeah, thanks, Randall, I think the jets, I, I think you're seeing some of the guys from the moose come in. Some of their younger prospects come in and they're providing some, some needed speed and some ability to move the puck that they were missing. I think it's, I think it's a factor. Definitely.
