And the Florida Gators have put out their updated rosters and for the first time ever we have specific designations positionally, right. You've got corner, you've got D line, you've got inside linebacker, you've got jack, which is a new one, you've got kicker, you've got long snapper offensive line, you've got punter quarter back running back safety star, which is a new one tied on wide receiver.

And we're going to start by talking about star because it is important and it's maybe the one where there were more questions surrounding it, right. Jack, we kind of know we're getting at star we've been told for basically this whole time that Florida is going to teach multiple people how to play star like they want to teach the entire secondary how to play star so that even if it's not just these three guys that are listed as star. Everyone knows how to do it and that is probably the best way to find out who might actually be best get your best trio out there if you will of outside corners and star. But star is basically your slot corner, a lot of teams use it as a slot corner or a corner safety hybrid right that's how Florida has used it for quite some time now that's how NFL teams are really starting to use it as well where. There's a significance there is that you have to as as one man you have to be able to defend a I don't know 510 190 pound slot receiver right one man you got to defend that right in front of.

190 by the way really big for a slot receiver but for a 510 slot receiver 510 170 we'll say slot receiver if there's a wide receiver one that comes into the interior you got to guard him as well if there's a tight end that you're matched up with that's your responsibility as well. You might have the running back right but also guess what you need to defend the run and oh also by the way you're going to sometimes need to rush the passer you're asked to do everything it's the hardest position outside of course. The position outside of quarterback in my opinion I think it's damn near impossible play I've told the story before I played corner. I played safety I was an amazing either but I think I was you know decent enough for the level of football that I was playing. I went to nickel which we did not call star but I went to nickel and got my ass kicked so throw that one out there right. It's a top position play it's really difficult because you need to be able to do everything and Florida has as three guys listed that frankly are very different sizes right.

Kanye Clark's 510 179 Dylan perter 6 foot 181 and Elijah Owens is 6208 I will say it's just from a pure pure looking at the number standpoint Dylan perter probably going to need to gain weight before he's really getting in there. 6 feet 181 is pretty lean to be going up against some of these tight ends and to be defending the run there alright. Kanye Clark is is also 179 so basically 180 but he's 510 and that matters right you look at you look at Kanye Clark's build and he looks like someone that should be playing the nickel he does. I will say this for those of you who do not remember we do not follow swapsickle.sepsi.com we've been doing scouting reports of the entire transport class. We're mostly done with it we got like Mike Mays Evan Sheepgo we got a few others to do Bailey Stockton but we did the Kanye Clark one and with Kanye Clark I said like I thought his film at outside corner was much better than his film in the nickel. I said I don't think he's his star in the SEC.

We'll see if he is right I would gladly be wrong something about him you just want a root form. But I would gladly be wrong there but I think that he really struggled with miss tackles and I thought that he really struggled with fitting the run there. And you got to be able to do that especially in the SEC they're going to run it actually if you need if you struggle fitting the run. We got whiteboard time here. Frankly because I'm a nerd and I like doing the whiteboard so I kind of look for reasons to do it you'll see on tomorrow's episode of a lot of computers. But so right here we have the star spot obviously and if you need help signaling it. It's the one that looks like a star and that's how you do it if you're not watching you're not missing a time. You're going to be lined up you're going to be lined up usually generally in most defenses on the strong side of the formation or the field boundary side you're going to be on the field side. If that's the case if field is just strength for you and so you're going to be lined up on the field side that's usually going to be opposite the jack. Okay, which is obviously the spot that we're going to talk about next but usually the star is going to be lined up on the opposite side of the jack.

Part of that is because the jacks can be crashing down you got to have that run fit on the edge too and they kind of do play. A little bit in tandem really that you guys both have that edge run responsibility. That's you if it's a run to the far jack side star you're probably going to have that fit on the backside for the cutoff. Same if it's a wide run to the star side jack you're probably going to have that fit to cut off the back to handle the cut back it's going to be your responsibility stars incredibly difficult spot to play. It is not something that should be just overlooked right I know a lot of people go oh yeah well you know slot's not the most important thing slot is arguably the most important thing. If offenses come out and bunch sets gets who's rushing the passer that star is coming down that's how they attack them now. That's where this can Kanye Clark work out at star absolutely will he be the starter I think so I do I mean we did this earlier today where I said like I've had my criticisms of him.

I will have my criticisms of everybody I don't care it's it's evaluation right it's evaluation it's analyzing the people players things sort of this. So I will have my criticisms and my questions I still think he's going to be your starting nickel and I still think he's going to be the guy that that needs to be the answer there. I think he's a better answer than Elijah Owens or Dylan Perter again I've been very open my preference would be DJ Coleman there. I can do is a deep safety with Bryce Thornton that be it Bryce Thornton in the boundary can do is the field and DJ Coleman as your star I think it gives you perfect versatility to do anything you want. I'm not a coach I'm ready to watch criticize and get yelled at by you guys for criticizing we're going to talk about the jack spot when you get back with locked on getters. This is Mazda's moving the game forward for those who show there's more to the score than what's on the screen right. I'm not going with a player.

Nene I'm going with Todd Golden because I think that what Todd Golden did against Arkansas with the argument against John Calapari. With the challenge when it you want it you didn't need the challenge anything everybody knew what was going on but I'm convinced he did it just to fire up the crowd. That your players will resonate with the personality of your coach right. I'm good with it then right that's that extra fire that's that great that's that I never quit. Mazda put that same passion to every model highlights make the real what it's to get there makes it count there's more to a Mazda because there's more to you. And the Florida Gators with that updated roster now have the jack spot listed right and there there's more names at jack than there are it's all right at Jack you've got in numerical order. Jaden woods the guy that everybody expects to be a big time impact player there right he is going to be your starting jack he's probably going to be your leading past russure and I say probably because he should be your leading past russure but things can go weird right. AJ Ford refreshment who if you watch this morning's episode where I tried to predict what the depth chart would look like he was jack number two for us and he was I think he's again I don't know how to put it I think I think he's a difference making past russure I do.

Also by the way he's listed a 6 4 250 which I do believe with Florida listing it with it being listed on rivals and 24 7 not so much. Florida listening I do believe it's 6 4 250 that's good frame. You have then tight as Bullard who is in his 30 year with Florida. Legacy walk on kid that juice right so he's got then you have cofee sorry who came in from UMass. Is someone that I think a lot of people are hoping for more from in in year two now because he was he transferred in under the Napier staff. I'm not trying to be a jerk about it but when he was I forgot if it was when he was targeted or after we committed but we talked about the film and and I needed to see it then I was like look like I get it he had some some good games against SEC talent he played against them I get that but I don't know I kind of got to see it sometimes and that's that's that's kind of where I'm at with it like I just sometimes.

You just got to see it and so we'll see with that but I do think there's a there's a decent chance he's going to be either Jack two or Jack three right. I think we all know the top three and we jaden woods at one and then number two and three are going to be cage a forward cofee sorry in some order. Then you have Eric Seeger and you have Charles Emmanuel the third who are both also on the team and both probably won't be playing much right. Eric Seeger is a red shirt junior that walked on last year. And Charles Emmanuel third's been here for he's entering your three now I will also say the unfortunate truth. That cage a forward is getting a stock down from me because he's wearing number 14. And I don't love number 14 for net pressure right just to just be frank I don't love the number 14 for net pressure but this Jack position you're usually going to be the weak side or boundary defensive end. Defensive edge rusher right I'm just to say edge defensive end outside linebacker I don't care if you're standing up or if you're hands that are.

But Jack was a spot that and star were both spots that were kind of popularized by Nick saven and. In terms of becoming legitimate like this is what we want and need kind of popularized there so. Pretty good decision and. With Florida this year hopefully the Jack is going to be much more of a past rushing spot than we saw under the round Roberts David ran the tree. I don't know why I said David ran like I always just say Ron Roberts David ran the tree but it's really Ron Roberts started it a bunch of people help. Make it better. And there's that. But Jaden Woods is someone that should take the next big step. Should be a dude should be a hooper but and I know a lot of people are probably mad that I'm like not head over heels for what he brings to the table but he brings it the physical makeup of being amazing right like he does that's a. Physical makeup there to be a lead. And he's someone that we know is putting in work to get better constantly.

But frankly last year he wasn't super productive. And the film was was good not great great for a freshman sure like people like that hang up of me going for he was great for a freshman. But it's like that I don't care that you're great for a freshman I care if you're great. I don't care if you're near one or your four if you're great you're great I don't care about you being great for a freshman it can be really promising right. Maybe he develops it but you still got to develop even a great for a freshman you still got to develop. You're not playing against an off freshman team you're playing against guys that are that are fourth fourth fifth year. I mean at this point with eligibility you're playing against guys that are eighth year seniors. I don't care if you're good for a freshman I care if you're good. And Jaden Woods was good not great. This year hopefully will be great should have better coaching all throughout like strength conditioning edge should should all be improved so. Hopefully. Right hopefully the Jack is a spot that has has pop potential in 2026 right with woods forward and sorry.

Woods be expected to be good if Ford or a sorry pop off that's pop potential right there for the Florida Gators star Jack interesting spots can't wait to see what happens with them.
