Fire Reveals

Jesus said to his disciples, Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. He wasn't condemning them, he was just revealing the truth. To Peter, he said, Could you not even muster one hour of strength in yourself? Do you remember your boast? Do you remember saying you would go with me wherever I go? Jesus was showing them they didn't have the resources they thought they had to finish the journey. We believe we do when we're at peace and when bread is on the table, but the fire reveals what theology cannot. When we enter the fire, what is of us will not stand. God must lead every one of us to this place where self-effort and reliance ends. Only then can divine strength begin. Stop trusting your resolve today and turn to Jesus as your only source of strength today. It's time to pray.
