7News Just In — Ferrari's controversial electric Luce arrives in Australia. Machine-transcribed; use the interactive transcript above to jump the player to any line.
A Ferrari's most polarising car, a very expensive, all-electric model has arrived in Australia. Seven years is among the first to see the Radical 5-C to EV up close before it hits our roads late next year. For a company that's been close to a century, perfecting the roar of its engines, this is a reinvention of the wheel, the luchay. Luchay in Catalan means light. No combustion engine in its place, luxurious boot space. A silent Ferrari that's causing plenty of noise online. People absolutely hate it. One of its chief designers is Australian Mark Newson. There wasn't a single thing that we didn't design. At the risk of isolating its blood-red traditionalists, it's targeting a new greener audience. We like to say different Ferrari for different Ferraristi, but also different Ferrari for different moments. The first Ferrari to accommodate five passengers while retaining the quality of a supercar,
more than a thousand horsepower driving it to zero to one hundred in two and a half seconds. Battery range 540 kilometres. As soon as it was technically possible to place the order, the order was placed. The first global customer, as part of a charity auction, paid $56 million. The silence extends well beyond the 12 motors. The first whispers of the luchay began back in 2022, and Australia's silent investors won't be hitting the road until the end of next year. At $991,446 and blessed by the Pope, let there be luchay. Tomseiker, 7 news.
