Well, she carved out a place in history fighting for change. Gloria Steinem was a feminist trailblazer, a leader of the women's movement in the US. Today, the campaigner was remembered across the globe following her death, aged 92. For more than half a century, Gloria Steinem was one of the faces of feminism. We are the women that our parents warned us about. A journalist turned activist in the 60s. She wrote about taboo topics like contraception, famously going undercover to expose the working conditions of playboy bunnies. A human being, a woman, a feminist, and an American in that order. In 1972, she co-founded Ms. Magazine. The pages spoke about abortion, domestic violence, sexual harassment. There is no woman in the country who we are not trying to reach. Steinem never stopped pushing for social change. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013.
From Barack Obama today, generations of women are walking a little taller and aiming a little higher because of what she fought for and achieved. Megan, the Duchess of Sussex said privately, she was even better than you would imagine, loving our children with her whole heart, counseling me during hard times, and from Oprah, what a life, what a legacy, what a difference she made. Her life re-told on TV and in film. Your glory Steinem, I am. The trial blazer died peacefully in her New York home overnight, aged 92, a fighter to the very end. Maybe I made a difference, a little bit of a difference. Jacqueline Robson, seven news.
