Family Tensions from Following Jesus by Richard Templin Hancock. Matthew 1034-39 Don't think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn't come to send peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man at odds against his father and a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's foes will be those of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn't worthy of me. He who doesn't take his cross and follow after me isn't worthy of me. He who seeks his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. Consider this. Following Jesus has a price tag, tension on earth now and guaranteed bliss in heaven. Following Jesus can cause division in families. Family members who do not understand your decision
to follow Jesus could consider you odd, though you are not. Following Jesus could cause members of your family to become your foe. Following Jesus means taking up the cross of discipleship, the cross of self-denial and possible affliction. Following Jesus means you will find the true meaning for your life. Is it worth it? Yes. Jesus said in Matthew 1929, everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my namesake will receive 100 times and will inherit eternal life. That's it for this podcast. Follow Jesus radio is here 24 hours a day to encourage you to have faith in Jesus Christ and follow him daily. Remember Jesus loves you and is just a prayer away.
