Many of us have been conditioned to believe governments are a net good for society. But at the same time, people are constantly complaining that governments accomplish little and tend to attract the wort of our fellow citizens. The question that often follows is, Why? A big part of the problem is rooted in the bureaucracy itself. Today we use a speech given by Tom Woods to examine the nature of bureaucracy and how its incentive structure is very different than the free market.
