Eps 396 - Can Ideas Based in Liberty Reach People?

I've often said the liberty or freedom is a popular idea. People do not have to be convinced of it. But this comes with a caveat. What about people who think they're free? Most people who live in America today, in the context of states around the globe, are relatively free. However, most people don't tend to give it much more thought than that. So the question is, "How much freer would we be if we didn't have a central bank, or government that continuously reduces our standard of living to flex its military muscles for the purposes of maintaining an empire that will eventually collapse?" This is, of course, is the unseen. The state tells us that we need it to protect our property or our safety from criminals. But anybody that has ever had something stolen knows that what you often get from the state is, "Do you have insurance?" They have no intention of recovering your property. so what do we need the state for? They can't even exercise their monopoly on the use of force to recover stolen property. Keith Knight's book is brilliant at pointing out these little details.
