Hey guys, welcome to today's podcast, today's episode, it's the basics that will make your life amazing. So the basics, I've talked about this before but not for ages, I was just contemplating, I just left the gym, I did sauna and ice bath and red light therapy and all this other shit that I do. And I feel amazing at the moment physically and mentally. Yes, that was a bit flat and then I was like why was I a bit flat and I go because why do I feel better today? And it's because today I did some meditation and journaling and things this morning that I don't normally do. Well what I should say is that I used to do all the time but I haven't done it as much lately. And then I'm like so I'm doing sauna ice bath training, gym, red light stuff all this other shit but then I'm like you, Simpleton, I haven't been doing the very simple 15 minutes a day meditation and some just question answer journaling or just some journaling or just write some free thoughts for a couple of pages every day.
And I was like are you more on the basics? Sleep, obviously, huge one. Sleep is the number one thing. Eat clean, exercise, meditate, journal and then podcasts, you know audiobooks. So I'm always listening to podcasts and audiobooks and educating myself just for interest of things. But I'm like just simple basics like meditation and journaling that I haven't been doing that make a huge difference. So I meditate for 15 minutes this morning when I wake up then I meditate for 15 minutes in the red light therapy bed and now I'm like holy shit I feel fucking amazing. And I'm like well you more on it's the basics you know it's the basics you know it's the simple things but it's the simple things that I often don't do because they feel too simple ironically. And that is the hilarity of the human condition is that the things that feel easy we often don't do. So I seem to have some block in my mind I think a lot of people do that spending 15 minutes meditating could have a huge impact because it just doesn't feel real.
Like is that right mate? So you can literally just sit for 15 minutes with headphones in, listen to someone talk and that can help reset your nervous system when you fight a fight and help you become a and yeah they can 100% it does. It's magical but I don't do it and I think it's because it's almost like life feels too easy and I don't trust easy things. And to me it's the simplicity of life and what happens in life that is so important to understand because the simple things often move the needle the most distance but for me I'm terrible at doing it. So then you start looking at things in your life and go why is that? I think I've said on the podcast a while ago about going to chat GPT and put in there what's my curse? See you RSE? Don't explain. I put mine in and said you don't trust ease as in you don't trust things that are easy and simple and I'm like correct. If it doesn't really kill me if it's not really hard then I don't think it has value which is stupid because everything I want in my life is I want my life to be easy and simple and I want it to be like peaceful.
I don't want the difficulty or whatever but then I create so the irony in it is hilarious because I put myself in this ridiculous place of just never being able to be satisfied unless things are really hard. Now I'm so much better at that that I used to be like infinitely better but still I do it. So for me these days it's all about going how do I make my life easier? How can I actually put myself into a place where I will be able to live my best version of myself whilst also being able to stay in a place of peace and ease? So what I do now compared to what I used to do is I absolutely try and look at the simple and less difficult way of doing things, whatever that might be. And it is amazing and it's the basics when I'm like my sleep I'm really really focused on trying to get at least seven hours if not more. The other night I took a sleeping, I didn't 48 hours faster my sleep I got four and a half hours sleep.
It was just terrible my body was just obviously in the final flight because of no food and I was like well that sucks. Next day I was like cool really need to get a really good decent sleep so I took a sleeping tablet which I really do. I only got 10 hours and 27 minutes uninterrupted sleep. I was like holy shit and I felt fucking amazing. So I focus hard on sleep I focus really well on nutrition like just really simple food. Mostly if it had eyes I eat it if it grew somewhere I ate it if it didn't I don't eat it. And yet I still eat potato chips and other shit and whatever because obviously I'm not a fanatic. But I predominantly try and eat food that's reasonably good for me. And all these things you can go into my Instagram profile, the Strung Life Project, go into my profile and there's a link in there for Life Basics. You can go and get a PDF download and explain the issue to you. But these are the things I find just so easy. Training, obviously meditating, journaling, mental rehab, simple stuff.
But why is it that we don't do the simple things? Because I think most people most of us think it should be things that are like huge things. It should be really difficult like the big whatever it is. I should have to do this, I'll get run a marathon and then I might be better. Well you don't have to, you probably just need to go walk for 40 minutes a day, 45 minutes a day everyday. Simple shit. You get such an amazing benefit out of sometimes that easier thing. And that to me is I think we make things far more complicated than we certainly need to. Make things far more complicated than is necessary for us to live an amazing life. And I'm just not sure why do we do that? For me, I know it's because I'm used to life being difficult. So I often I think subconsciously create more challenge and difficulty in my life because I think that's what it's supposed to be. But it doesn't make me happy. It absolutely makes me the opposite of happy because when things are hard, then I'm more stressed.
I have less peace. I have less enjoyment. My life overall is pretty peaceful and easy. And I have a very simple life in the sense of the things that bring me great joy. It's just hanging out with good people, being fit healthy. Like I don't need a lot of things in my life for me to be happy. And I've deliberately created my life in that way. But the simple things are the things that bring about the best outcome and the most enjoyment for me. The simple things is in, you know, just spending time with decent people. Like this, going for a walk, taking blades for a walk for 45 minutes in the afternoon, I'm really enjoy. Like just the shit that doesn't take any real effort. But to me, there are things that I tend to forget about when I'm looking for the big things that will move the needle and make me happier and make my life better. So focus on the really simple shit for you. Like, get off your phone an hour earlier and get an hour's extra sleep. Do that for a week and look how much better you feel. It's actually amazing to me how much better I feel when I do those things.
Sleep, nutrition, training, meditation, journaling, meditation rehab. And it feels too easy. And I often get stuck on it going, oh, I can't be that simple. I often get stuck on, wow, you know, I should be doing a whole lot more of different things. But the reality of the matter is, 100%. When I spend my life doing the things that are simple, doing the things that actually don't take a hell of a lot of effort, that is when I absolutely feel my best. That is when I'm at my most peaceful. I'm at my least stressed. I'm at my most productive. I have the most enjoyment. I get to have the best relationships. I have the best friendships. All of the fun stuff in my life gets better and better and better. When I'm in that environment, when I'm actually doing the simple things that are making my life more enjoyable. And the reason that I do that the way I do it is because I know the difference it makes. Sorry if that beeping is annoying. So to me, it's about living your life in the most simplistic and enjoyable way you possibly can. Keep pushing forward, keep doing the shit that's going to matter. Stop trying to find the magic pill or the million dollar idea that's going to change your life because it won't.
Consistent habits, consistent actions taken daily that will make your better person make you happier, make you more content. Will just make your life so much more enjoyable. Do it effectively. Do it simply but do it consistently. The other things that will make your life immensely better. Do those, see what difference it makes. Do it for three weeks. Let me know how you go. Talk to you tomorrow. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Always remember. If you want the results, you have to do the work.
