Welcome back to Challenges of Faith Radio Program. I'm Gary McCann. Thank you for joining. Here on episode 3405, don't be tricked and lawsuits are the topics for today. Did you see a QR code parked somewhere and you were tempted to scan it? Well, don't scan it yet according to the Federal Trade Commission's staff. They said it ever tried to pay for parking and discovered you need to scan a QR code to pay. It seems like a convenient way to pay but it turns out scammers like using QR codes too. People have reported scammers covering up legitimate QR codes on parking meters with a QR code of their own. So if you scan that scammy QR code, it could take you to a fake site designed to steal your money, your personal information or both.

So the question becomes how can you protect yourself from these scams? You know, the individuals, the fraudsters, the tricksters, the schemers? Well, you can inspect a URL link because many QR readers preview the link they'll send to you. And you want to make sure there are no spelling mistakes or switch letters in the link before you click. Protect your phone. Update your phone's operating system. You know the OSN apps to help prevent scammy links from turning into a hack. And if you happen to have an Apple phone, reach out to Apple's support. Update your phone or iPad. Need some help from the Android? Well, check and update your Android version. New strong passwords for your account. Protect your online accounts with strong passwords with multi-factor authentication. Think about it. You think you've already been scammed because there was a bad QR code? Well, don't interact with the scammer.

If you reach out to someone through the website, you think it's fake. They may try to get money with sensitive information out of you. Go ahead and change your password. If you enter credential like your user name or password immediately change them. Wherever you use the same password or other accounts. And you want to take a look at the transactions. Check the credit card and bank statements to spot transactions. And maybe you didn't make. And then while you're doing all that, go and report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov. And while we're only, did you hear that Amazon shoppers just reached a $309 million settlement over its return policy? If you return an item to Amazon, you may be old part of it. Think about it. Apple class action claims that iCloud Private Relay Exposer users, IP addresses. Did you know that? Did you hear about it? Say what?

Remember now, Apple's iCloud Private Relay is supposed to hide your IP address. Well, a lawsuit claims it disposed users anyway. Did you know about it? And Cholulug, class action alleged, hot sauce falsely marketed as original recipe. There accused a market and it's hot sauce as original recipe when it allegedly is not. So if you bought it, you want to see what the lawsuit is all about. And then you have American Express credit reporting lawsuit. It alleges that the bank reported the subtle debt. American Express allegedly reported the subtle debt as still old, potentially damaging credit schools. If you settled a debt with American Express, your report may be wrong. Did you hear that top class action that put out the Lori Wait, did you pay for a security deposit alternative?

On a turn to a security department. The public should not cost you anymore. And if a user required to use a security deposit alternative product from Oblico, sure deposit, deposit IQ, or a similar company, you may be able to pursue a compensation through a security deposit lawsuit. And the question you may have is what is the security deposit alternative class action lawsuit investigation about? Well, since you asked, attorneys are investigating whether renters received clear and accurate information about the lawsuit. The investigation includes allegations that renters paid non-refundable fees instead of a traditional security deposit, they're also examining whether the company's offering these products used practices that violated the consumer protection laws. The investigation includes allegations that renters paid non-refundable fees instead of a traditional security deposit, that they could potentially recover.

Some landlords required renters to use these products or did not offer a meaningful choice. Marketing materials did not clearly explain the total cost of the product or the limited benefit provided to renters. Renters did not receive the same protection as state laws generally provide for traditional security deposits. You had some renters paid more overall with charge for both a traditional security deposit and an alternative product. The additional products or services were bundled with the security deposit alternative without clear disclosure. And then renters had limited opportunities to review challenge or resolve charges. So if you've used the security deposit alternative whether it shows it or you landlord required it, you may qualify to take legal action. You did know that, don't you?
