Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah would be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. The Messiah would embody both the power and the presence of the God of Israel, and would bring about the fulfilment of God’s promise to David. This appealed to Israel’s desire for a deliverer who would bring national greatness and release them from their enemies. But in stark contrast to this, Isaiah prophesied that the Messiah was going to serve and suffer. Today we will look into this incredible suffering Messiah.
