And the Dodgers are really in a battle with the Atlanta Braves.

5:11And that is the top priority right now. Can you avoid the wild card round? Can you finish with one of the top two seats in the national league? And the Dodgers are doing everything in their power in this series. It feels like to get the job done. Even though they're not playing their best version of Dodger baseball, at least since the all star break, but you get a win tonight. They win six to five against the Washington Nationals. If you look at where the Dodgers stand in the division, you're already in a good spot. You're going to win the division. No doubt about that. The Dodgers right now have 10 and a half games on the Arizona Diamondbacks, sitting at 85 and 57. But the most important thing is where they stand in the league. The Dodgers are two and a half games back to Milwaukee Brewers for the best record in the National League. But they are now a game up of the Atlanta Braves.

6:12And they need to be a game up, half game up. They need to finish on top of the Braves. They can't finish up the same record. The Dodgers have the same records. The Braves will get that number two seed because the Braves took the season series. The Dodgers also are right there in the hunt. They have the same record as the Tampa Bay race. So if they go on a run and Milwaukee starts losing some games, they could finish with the best record in Major League Baseball after it's all said and done. The Dodgers don't have the best run differential though anymore. Plus 150 run differential. That is behind the Milwaukee Brewers at 172. But let's talk about tonight's game. Let's hear from some of the stars of tonight's game. And then we're going to talk about Bobby Miller who is called up. So that's really exciting stuff. Bobby Miller called up. We'll get to the Otani news. But let's start with tonight's action. The Dodgers win six to five over the Nationals.

7:15Tommy Edmond was fantastic. He made a terrific defensive play in the outfield, robbing the Nationals of extra bases. And then in the seventh inning, he gets the big swing. The Dodgers trailing 42. And then he gets a three run home run. That puts the Dodgers of five to four. And Tommy Edmond, Tommy Tanks has absolutely answered the bell. He stepped up with Shohei Otoni out in 49 over his last five games. And he's just so incredibly important because no, Tommy, no Muncie rushing really not the same guy. No Andy Pahes. He was on the field moving around today. It was Tommy Edmond that really just stepped up in the very biggest way possible. And you got to really feel excited about what it means moving forward for him. Because look, we know that Shohei Otoni is a major creature of habit that he would

8:15want to probably go back to that lead off spot. But for the Dodgers to have another hitter, a guy that has slugging there as we saw tonight, but also with the approach of getting on base, bat to ball, stealing bases. I mean, Tommy Edmond, if this was 1999, like he would be a perfect lead off hitter, right? Because that's what you look for. And he just did everything. I mean, it's just great catches the center field wall, robbed the nets of a Homer. Towsker, Nandes came through again to an RBI single in the first inning. So he's had a very strong homestanding tonight. Tommy Edmond gets one hit, but that one hit ends up being that three run home run. The bullpen, they really survived tonight, Alex Vesion, Evan Phillips. You handle the middle innings after Tyler Glass now went six plus gave up four runs on six hits had eight strikeouts on three walks will break down his outing.

9:16But the star of the game is Tommy Edmond. He's the guy that has been the engine. Tommy Tanks has been the engine of this Dodgers offense with Shohei Otoni out. And I think when you're making that list of players that you feel good about right now, I mean, there was a moment in this one where you saw some really good at bats from Mookie bets and you're starting to see Mookie bets have more success with velocity too. There was a pitch 99 in or half. He's turning on it. He ends up on the game being another Dodgers hitter that is continue to grow. I mean, with where they're currently at two for four night for Mookie, he scores a run. And it was Edmond at the top going one for four. If you look at the box scored, Teo goes one for four hundred fiducius one for through the big RBI. Fiducius is really good for this team. He really absolutely has in that role. Got his fifth RBI since come back. How about Alex Freeland?

10:17It's some really good at bats from him tonight. He had two walks. He goes one for two, scored a run. Got his first hit since being called up had been really struggling early on. A lot of warning track power. Some lazy flyouts are really good to see him have some success in them. He get her Nandes. He goes one for four. The Dodgers three for eight with runners in scoring position in this one. But moving for you, look at that list. Who's trending up? Who's trending down trending up? Tommy Edmond in a big way. Mookie bets in a very big way. Mookie last couple of weeks is looking like Mookie bets of old as far as just harder contact. Better A B's. Things are starting to get right. Hits are falling. He's trending up. Kyle Tucker went over three with a walk in two twenty five. Still really hasn't found it. But Teo trending up. So Edmond up, Mookie up, Teo up.

11:17I think Will Smith is being back as a good thing. Went over once night with a strikeout. Keeke getting a hit. Shrending up to a degree. Freddie I think is holding even. I think the fact that he got his first home run since the fourth of July, a couple games ago is a sign that it's trending up. So really outside of Kyle Tucker, guys are stepping up. Mookie Edmond. They're good signs. Towsca and Anna is good signs. So that's definitely somebody feel encouraged by, but the right at the top. It to me, we love about Tommy Edmond. It's just not just the offense, right? Teo's got to get doubles in home runs and big base hits to have value for this team. Tommy Edmond can give you goal, glove, caliber plus defense at second base and plus defense and center field. And then you add what he's been doing with the offense. It's very, very valuable. So let's hear from Tommy Edmond from inside that Dodgers clubhouse and he's really starting

12:18to pick it up and giving everything that he has to this Dodgers offense as they tried to hold off the Atlanta Braves and really have a strong finish to the season. Is light up when you see that slider kind of rolling to the top of his own? Yeah, I wasn't able to swing at the first one that he hung and then I just made sure I wasn't going to miss a second one. We have a guy who was like tap that, how much you kind of trying to look for a mistake and how much you're just trying to make sure you're not overeager. Was that bad? Yeah, you know, I'm just kind of trying to get him up because I know his outpitch is a slider down. So I'm just doing my best to be ready for that pitch but also not be chasing it down. And he hung that one obviously. That's some success. I'm a big off road cause couple days and through any thing you're looking to different when you're out the plate. You know, not really. Regardless, I'm just trying to get on base, have good productive at bats. Grind out some A-B's and if slug comes, it's not something I'm necessarily trying to

13:20do but you know, just more trying to get on base than anything. Would go, would leaves with you tonight when you leave the park. Is it the catch or the home room? I'm just excited we got the win. You know, good heart-fought win. A lot of intense moments in that game. We got a lot of big moments from a lot of guys and you know, just anything we can do to win ball games and you know, it's especially important to this part of the year. On the catch, are you, as you're tracking it, are you pretty sure you're going to be able to get to it? Yeah, I feel like I had a really good beat on the ball off the bat. You know, I just wasn't sure if it was going to get over and once I saw it kind of start to die, you know, I could shot at it. And you know, unfortunately, I was able to make the play. Is there an awareness when you go into this series that the National Bowl fit is like their biggest problem? Yeah, you're kind of just aware of the team's weaknesses and strengths. You know, they're able to put up a lot of runs and you know, our pitching staff has done a really good job of limiting that. They just have a lot of good hitters, a lot of good at bats. And you know, against their starters today, especially, you know, he's a really good

14:23pitcher. He's probably the best pitcher. And so, you know, we're kind of just trying to do our best to grind him out. We had a really good first inning. I think we obviously scored two runs and had like 30 pitches and then he kind of showed us down for five. But, you know, to be able to get to their bowl pen, I mean, that's where we were able to really score runs. How much pride are you taking in your merciless to be? Yeah, you know, a lot, you know, that's definitely something that makes me valuable to the team. Especially as we get to kind of later parts of the year when some guys get banged up, obviously losing Andy was a huge loss. So, you know, I kind of take pride in being able to, you know, fill that role a little bit. I'm definitely not completely feeling the role that Andy left behind, but, you know, just trying to do my best. 17:33Let's talk about Tyler Glass now tonight. I mean, vital line. Six and a third Zinnings. Four runs on six hits. Eight strikeouts and three walks. You threw well enough to give it up. Four runs on six hits. Eight strikeouts and three walks. You threw well enough to give this Dodgers offense an opportunity to come back and get that big hit. We know how much they rely on slug and home runs. And look, tonight was a night where you didn't get a lead starting pitching, but you got solid ish. Give you a chance to win starting pitching. And if you can combine that with slug in a big home run and especially a three run shot, you're going to give yourself an opportunity to win. I think the look of the good, where was the eight strikeouts? Eight strikeouts and he settled down after the fourth inning. He retired the nationals in order in the sixth and that was still enough for him to come back out there in the seventh. So he's still stretching out. He's still getting his legs underneath him. The bad was and we've seen this with even Terry scubal and some other, I mean, Yamato

18:37really until late last time to go hit into the sixth and snow was really good. Scubal and glass now giving up a run early and giving up runs early. The Nats got to him. He got single of stolen base yet a sack fly. That proves to run there in the second and the fourth inning is started to get away with him a little bit when they scored those three runs and that inning in total, that's when glass now can get into some trouble. When you see the pitch count go up and just kind of just getting that first guy on. I mean, we saw that there. The lead off single, couple batters later, he was close to getting out of it. Then we singled to right then cruise double to left. He gave two runs on three hits. I think the stuff, though, the way it's playing, it still is, is, is electrifying when he's right. The biggest you just putting too many runners on him in three walks in six hits.

19:38That's the biggest you just too many runners run base and it worked his way around. That's why they ultimately scored four runs despite of having really good swing and miss strikeout stuff. The most important thing though, this is the first home start since coming back from the injured list. So getting through six and a third settings, I still was encouraged by it and his recent outing against the tiger just looking at it. He gave up a run on two hits. That was a difference. The hits were down had the six strikeouts. The command was better. So I still think that the Dodgers can absolutely get by without show, hey, Otony starting games for them or opening games for them. If he gets healthy, fine. If they feel like the knee can hold up, okay, I could see a piggyback start with Otony and glass down. We know they're top three starters are going to be Tarek Schuble, who by the way did some look up at his numbers. I'm kind of tough on Schuble for sure, but the truth is, I was talking my guy Klein over on the X and he called me out because he was like, hey, you know, I said the thing

20:39about the Ron tomatoes, how he's basically like one of those 98% Ron tomato certified fresh movies that has all this hype and then you watch and like, did we see the same movie because they really hit like that for me. He has given up a lot of hits. His hits per nine is definitely higher than it's been throughout his career and 35 hits, 34 innings of work, something in that range. Just too many hits for Tarek Schuble, but if you look at the FIP, if you look at the war numbers, since the trade, he really has been a top three pitcher at Major League Baseball. It's just we have such high expectations for him. And I think too, just comparing to what we saw for Mag Sherser in 2021, we really put this team on his back. It feels like we're going to be due for a start like that at some point in a run like that. So for me, it's not necessarily Haiti on Tarek Schuble as much as, hey, we know what this guy is capable of. And I think that he can pitch as well as any pitcher in Major League Baseball.

21:40I think he's right there with Jacob Mizorowski and Paul Schienz definitely hasn't had the year that he had last year. But I mean, if it's the best version of the Schienz, I think that he's still in the mix for best pitcher. And I think that Schuble is absolutely in the conversation for best pitchers at Major League Baseball. We just haven't seen that version of him. And look, that's just not me saying that Dave Roberts said the exact same thing two days ago that they feel like he hasn't pitched his best and that that's on the way. With Tyler Glass, I'll put another good start. It really was. I mean, you're going to see starts like this as you work your way back. So I was encouraged by it. I'm still a big believer in Tyler Glass. Now he had a 169 E all ray for the Dodgers and the post season last year. So very, very, very encouraged to just have a healthy version of glass. Now back, that's the most important thing is that he feels fresh and healthy for the remainder of the season. And I feel like they timed this thing up very, very well. But let's hear from Tyler Glass down from inside that Dodgers clubhouse as he broke down

22:41his starting and kind of really told us what he liked what he didn't like. Tyler, when you look at just this outing, you're able to get through six footwork. Did you find that maybe early is a bit of a grind kind of easing into this one tonight? Yeah, I think today from the jump, the timing was just weird. It's not a lot of put away stuff. Nothing really felt sharp. It got a little better towards the end. It's still kind of just like a struggle all game. Yeah, how do you find to kind of working through games like this, whether it's making, trying to make an in-game adjustments or just things like that? Yeah, I think it's just trying to execute the game plan. Trying to stay aggressive and not try to like finesse anything. I think for the most part today, like when I'm having trouble locating, I feel like I just need to kind of not make it nasty here, but like not just leave pitches out there over to hit. But yeah, like I said, I got a little better as it went on. I think the sixth inning was my best one. Yeah. Was it one of those things where it's kind of a matter of just working with what you have on this day?

23:44That's something that you need to go for any more kind of pressure. Yeah, I think early on, like trying to make adjustments and do some things I normally do to get back on track and it just nests and nothing was really like clicking today, so I think it just doesn't matter of just go out and compete as well as you can. But you think I'm that catched only made up for all? It's pretty crazy. Yeah, that was, I thought that was a homer and then he came up with it, but yeah, it was one of the crazy catches I've ever seen. It was awesome. Thank you. Thank you. Here's Tyler Glass now right there and he said himself he felt like those first couple of innings were a grind. It took him a second to settle into it, but I was very encouraged by the fact that he finished his start strong. And he's someone that knows his stuff and how to have it play from a velocity standpoint, the mix, the slider, the curve ball, the fastball Tyler glass. Now is it's it's so refreshing to get a dude like that back to this rotation. The fact that he's a sure fire legitimate ace like I mean,

24:46we're like a couple years ago to a Walker dealer or hoping that he comes back from the injury and look, no one loves butane more than me, but he was just different, a different picture after he had that second Tommy John surgery. That's not the case with something like a Tyler glass now like glass now is a legitimate. Tom tier ace, I think that right now when he's on is as good as he's been throughout any point in his career. So I think more fans and people around baseball should be excited about Tyler glass now, but it feels like more of the focus is on Blake Stell and and Terry scuba but glass now is a dog man. He really truly is. Let's hear from Dave Roberts who he had to say we come back. We'll give out our grades for Tyler glass now give me your MV three. Three most important players that led to this win and we're going to talk about Tanner scots appearance and a little blunder by Freddie Freeman that almost cost the Dodgers the game, but here was Dave Roberts after the win. He's just such a he's a heck of a ball player.

25:56You know you can put him anymore on the diamond, makes plays defensively, tastes good at bats. He is has the knack for the big hit and he's playing his tail off and obviously when you don't have show he in there to put Tommy in there and really still be productive. It's great. I think he did a nice job. I think in Detroit he was really on and today like you said it was a little bit of a grind and the Nats they do a good job of putting the ball in play and taking competitive at bats and you know there were some balls that found out feel grass but I think that for him he just didn't quit and we tried to get him through that last hitter just one hit in the seventh inning but I give him a lot of credit for even not having his best stuff to you know really put it in a position of winning game. One of the things about him is he is mentally so strong,

26:58mentally that helps him to get the rest. He is mentally strong. I think that that's something that he's really really honed in on over the last year and a half and I just what people talk about his stuff and you know he should be one of the you know top pitchers in baseball and I think that's something he believes and so right now he's healthy he's on a good run right now so it's fun to see him take the baseball every five six days. I do I do you know and even the last couple teams they're just they're offensive man they score runs and it's just good to see our offense come to life and get timely hits, take a lot of walks, create stress and get some big hits and so yeah it's time to go and I think our guys understand that. It's the uplifting effect of a catch like that at the wall. Yeah I think Tyler thought it was

28:01gone and he's just just a grind of a player you know and I think that just kind of that was a big run that would have been a big run you know and creating traffic and so he just plays all facets of the game so it was a big boost to all of us you know the defense is always a boost. He did take some swings and I think right now honestly I'm gonna see how he comes in tomorrow but it was good to see that yeah during the game all game I think he was hitting it. I don't know what intensity but the hitting coaches said that he was swinging with some intent so we'll see how he feels tomorrow. He did not report pain during it. Dalton so he was doing some early early throwing today and just kind of I don't know kind of flared up the elbow flared up so I think you know what we'll kind of put a pin in and throwing for now he'll get some imaging tomorrow or tonight

29:05but I still believe that you know hitting is on the table we'll just see how it feels tomorrow. It possibly I think depending on how the scan comes back. Max do you expect this to look effective for me on tonight or could he be on tonight? I don't know you know he didn't do anything today so obviously unavailable so we'll see how he comes in tomorrow. I will start tomorrow. Yep thanks guys. All right so I'm really gonna update it there from Dave Roberts the first one being about Shohei Ohtani saying that he took swings today at Dodger Stadium before and throughout the games that's I really didn't see him there and they're gonna wait to see how he feels tomorrow. We'll see what Dave Roberts has to say before the game. Look I mean you're playing the nationals. You've already won every game this series. I don't see any harm with keeping Shohei out for another game.

30:08I think this rest is gonna do him well. If you guys have been watching this show I've been pushing for this all season. Look I look I said this is gonna happen and this is not something I'm proud of. I just felt like I asked Shohei Ohtani at the beginning of the year. What was the biggest difference between the fastball velocity now in last couple of years before before he got the injury and he told me it's lower body and the read the lower body is why the fastball velocity was up because of the torque and just using those legs and that's why I always feared that after he suffered the knee injury that the emphasis on the lower body from the pitching side would lead to this so I'm not happy about this. I hate this. I mean it's like we need to argue with your wife right like technically the scoreboard says you won but no everyone lost right like I want to see Shohei Ohtani back out they're helping this offense but the fact that he was hitting today we'll see if they shut him down from pitching all together I think that the danger there could possibly be

31:09if anything were to happen to any of these starting pictures the elite ones that they expect to use in the postseason Yamamoto snow glass now and Terrick Scooble well then you look at who else could step in and pitch a pivotal game that's really not options as far as I mean as Gavin Stone could maybe throw for you and that's a possibility it's a big ask but as far as proven explosive starters those are the guys and if you don't pitch Shohei at all then you lose any type of ramp up it's not like he just rolled a bit and throw 75 to 100 pitches at this point that's already a stretch at this point you're just maybe hoping to get one to three innings tops and maybe that builds up throughout the postseason but that's a positive that he didn't feel any pain he didn't report any pain after these workouts and after these batting sessions so that's definitely a positive many mentioned dull and rushing the fact that he had a setback felt something in the elbow look shut dull and rushing down shut dull and rushing down I mean if he doesn't look right at the play to

32:13begin with but he's not going to be throwing as Dave Roberts said it's like he had had any legitimate Myrley at bats I mean what's the harm in in giving James tips of third look even heck when the Myrley season ends call post-weight Apollo is a left handed bat if that's all it's going to be is a left handed bat off the bench I think if dull and rushing can't be healthy you're just kind of delaying the inevitable when it comes to maybe possibly needing surgery but we'll see what happens with that and then he mentioned max Muncie was sick so there was that but those are some of the injury updates on that front and then the move that was made today was about about Bobby Miller so Bobby Miller is back with the Dodgers we're going to break down what it all means next here on Dodgers dug out live but first a match is from our friends over at Mountain Dew there are home runs and then there are blasts this year when a home run is blasted over 420 feet

39:42past you know when you're going through some injuries you tend to change your arm angle a little bit to try to find something that's comfortable but you know it took a while this year to get healthy but you know I'm glad about the steps that I made to get healthy and the throw feels really good right now and I feel like I don't have to think about anything mechanically in a while yeah definitely the healthiest in a while you know when you're playing every single day you're working out every single day it's hard to feel 100% every single day so you just got to learn to deal with that and play through some soreness here and there but yeah like I said when you're out there and adrenaline takes over you're not going to feel much yeah a little bit you know I've had a lot of success here and I've also failed a lot here as well

40:44so you know I've I've dealt with both but you know the mindset this year is just don't be afraid to go out there and fail I've been here plenty of times I've done really good games here and I've thrown some really bad games here so at the end of the day just can't go out there and be afraid to fail you know at the highest level you know I think I've gotten to that point where I'm just going to go out there and not be scared to fail and see what happens as pitching in relay change the way you fit at all like you're in this year starting when you were starting oh yes and no I feel like my stuff has played out a little bit better um but just being a tack mode all the time is really just a mindset out there try to get ahead of every single header not get in a ton of 302 out counts um just try to get the the header out as fast as you can and always be in a tack mode so you can be available the next day I've actually lost weight since spring training I've lost probably around like 12 pounds since spring training I think it was me just not eating as much or eating a little bit better conditioning

41:51a little bit more so yeah physically I feel better I wouldn't say I feel a lot stronger but I'm definitely in better shape a little bit you know I think that's why I had a little bit of some of my injuries this year in the beginning leading in the spring training was I think I might have gone a little bit too hard in the offseason lift it a little bit too heavy of weights um say that that could have been the thing it could not have been I'm not sure but I'm just glad I'm here and healthy thank you thank you appreciate there we go Bobby Miller so he mentions the back being the biggest issue and just overcoming that look I love the attitude the fact that he's out there saying he's had some good games with the Dodgers some bad games he's really I think just open books I like I'm rooting for the guy really am see guys what up let's go Bobby we gotta do the improve bazooka what is up yeah by the way that catch my Tommy I mean fifth inning leaping back

43:59the Dodgers have had a very favorable schedule down the stretch after the all-star break it was the 23rd most difficult schedule and that's a good thing right 20 the lower the better and the braves in the brewers both had top five most difficult schedules down the stretch so you want to capitalize on that you want to capitalize on that and and hope that you finish strong even look the best record baseball still in the table for a team that has faced all this criticism but our guys will be backed about DMACC what are your real expectations for Bobby Miller I would say my real expectations are oh man I want to be encouraged right but I mean if you can go out there give up two runs or less I think you would feel pretty good about that I mean I we got to see how he looks at a pretty solid rehab situation we have to see what he looks like if the Dodgers were to commit to him as a reliever at the big league level until we see that it it's really unknown but
