Thanks for being with us. Hey, my pleasure. What do you get on Tuesday, I think? 248-539-9797. Brian's on a cell in his neck. So, Brian? Hey, wow, I haven't heard you guys in 15 years on the radio. I live in Texas, but now y'all are on serious radio. It's great to hear you guys. Great. Yep, thank you. All right, so, yeah, really Michigan State, you know, Michigan State alone, so I love the football team, but there has been one podcast, one media outlet that has really given any credit to this roster's talent. So, just looking at the schedule, I don't really see anything more than four wins. I think they, I think they squeak out tonight. They beat Eastern. I think they split Nebraska in a Northwestern. Because of last night's Massachusetts, one of the Rutgers, I'll say they beat Rutgers right before wins. That's a Halloween game, too. MSU, or EMU Toledo Rutgers, and what was, who are they split in Northwestern Nebraska? I think, yeah, they'll split one of those, too.
Okay. What do you think of Fitzgerald? I think, well, he puts out great motivation videos on Twitter. So that's great to see. Yeah, so sure. He has a lot of structure. I think it's, I think it's good to have an adult in the room. I think it's a lot of unfortunate as in coaching four years, three as in a player's list on a bringover, but I think it's a good hire. And who knows, maybe in a couple of years, but he hasn't recruited so long in this new world. So it's hard to tell. Brian, thank you for the phone call. Thank you for listening. It's amazing because there's, you know, are you familiar? I was familiar with that. Aero Smith has an album, my famous album called Toys in the Attic. Yeah. I think college football in this state should be called adults in the room. Well, definitely necessary. Yes, for both. Shempoch or Hall. Yes. Toadette. Seven biggest what ifs in sports since the start of the 21st century. Bro Bible put this out. Stoney, you sent this over and want to talk about it. And just specifically for Detroit. This century.
The what ifs since the year 2000. What's a top your list? I got three here. Okay. Okay. What if Matthew Stafford did not want to be traded? What do you think happens? What do you think the lions are? I mean, I think he's a better quarterback than Jared Goff, but the ramifications of the trade would the talent be the same. You know, how would he have, you know, gotten along with Dan Campbell? I assume fine. You know, that type of thing. How would they've been able to build without all the draft picks? Right. Be interesting. Yeah, because they spun, they start spinning those draft picks, caching them in for even more. And so at the end of that, they ended up that led to the great draft that was the Jameer Gibbs, Jack Campbell, Brian Branch, Sam Laporta. Yeah, I'm actually glad they made the trade.
Fine. All right. What else you got? What if Jim Lealon put Phil Kokeh in instead of Joaquin Benoit? And then when they gave up the Grand Slam? Big, big, big Poppy. So when I, when I hear tigers of that era reflect, that was what they felt like as a team that should have wanted all. Yes, that's the one. Lealon even says that was his best team. And what's interesting, he doesn't look at that game as the killer in that series. He says, we know we won the first game anyway. So it was one one. It was the first game in Camarro where they thoroughly under one nothing. Napoli hit a home run. He goes, that's the game. Yeah. They killed us. There was a pitch right before the Grand Slam. I mean, a Schurser pitch that in this era of pitch review, I think it led to Schurser having to throw a bunch more pitches and get pulled out of the game. Took himself, obviously. That if it was a called strike, which in this area with the automated system, might have had a different outcome. Didn't it wasn't there play a Jose Glacier's bot to the play too?
Yes. I'm telling you, that's the one that bothered me out of that whole thing was that. And because that was why he was there. Yeah, I mean, what if we had a wizard? What if we had ABS? What if a Glacier didn't put you that ball? There's a whole bunch of what ifs from that stupid game. My final one is stupid game. My final one is just as easy and maybe too obvious. What if the pistons won the Wimby lottery? That to me is the biggest. Well, that would have been nice. So twice, there are two credible reports. I got a couple here. Two credible reports that the pistons had a deal worked out for Kobe Bryant. One was when he was young. Although, I guess it was a Grand Hill. Was that before 2000? Yeah, Grand Hill was. Never mind. The second one was 2007. With Rip. With Brian Winhorse reported, it was Rip, Tachon, and a bunch of first round picks for Kobe. That apparently the Lakers had agreed to the terms and Phil Jackson talked them out of it. That was Winhorse reporting.
What if Kobe had gotten traded to Detroit? You know what? Maybe that was the one where Kobe exercises, no trade clause. The first one might have been Phil Jackson. The other one is, what if that flag hadn't got picked up on the passing or clearance call on the Dallas. Because that was a good Lions team. Yes. That was a really good Lions team. Another one with the pistons was, I believe, I'm pretty sure I'm correct on this. They had a trade with Philly for Iverson. Not then, I mean, early on when I and Iverson's career. But Matt Geiger somehow had this trade kicker in his contract. That if he didn't agree to a trade, he was part of the deal and the whole thing fell apart because of Matt Freakin Geiger. Really? Yeah. I got to tell you, the more I think about this topic, the more I realize this is a classic stony topic that is,
you end up like going through draft picks. I'm not on the line. You end up crippling yourself in pain because you start thinking about, now I'm going, what if Kendall Vildor had picked off that pass? What if Josh Reynolds hadn't dropped the fourth down pass? That's the one for me, for the Lions, for this era is the Josh Reynolds. But somebody says, everybody picks on Josh Reynolds and rightfully so. But nobody seems to remember Gibbs. Jamir Gibbs, the Fumble. When that was, Gibbs was a goff. It was in exchange. But there's like in that game, there's that. There's later Reynolds dropped the third and 10 crossing pattern. That would have been a first down result. It resulted in a punt. Two passes. The most, if you look at the most painful part of that game, though, the thing that is just inexplainable is that Kendall Vildor's got an interception. But not only does he not catch the ball, he doesn't even force it in completion. It goes through his hands, hits his face mask, pops up in the air and is caught for a touchdown.
But if I'm a mistake and he or somebody else was going to be caught for a defensive penalty on that play anyway, I think so, Stony. But I think they said they were going to pick up the flag. Like it wasn't like from what I remember. But that's because that's why if you wanted to debate that, it's the Josh Reynolds drop. And the thing about this that trumps every other sport is the Lions were going to the Super Bowl. And for a lot of us, that is, they're not even winning it. Just going there to say that phrase. It's unthinkable. You don't, you dream of this. People were booking literally at halftime tickets. Flight. Tobagus. It's, thanks for bringing this topic up. This is the epit-Stony has it once. Yes, this is Stony brings up the most painful topics. You didn't have to, you know, lose it. Now I know why. I guess you're the guy yelled at you yesterday. You know, we should have done instead of this topic. We should have played music. Play some loud music. Tony and McComb are 971.
Hello, Tony. The biggest what if for me is you still had that good lion team. But what if it's Aaron Donald on that roster instead of Eric Ebron? Aaron Donald, Max Tassou on that defense. And who knows how good that, that was a great lion, a good lion defense that year. And that draft pick is the one that will haunt us for a very long time in my opinion. Yeah, I don't think they were going to at the time because I don't want to go back to all the drafts because that's my pet peeve. As you know, I love that stuff. But I believe that was the draft with the next pick wasn't like either Taylor LeWan or Odell Beckham Jr. They went to two picks before. Yeah, Aaron Donald won even after that. It was, I just looked it up. Lions took Eric Ebron. Presented by T-Mobile, the official wireless partner of Odyssey Sports.
