2:02Hello, how are you, Don Lemon? It is good to be here with your audience. Thank you. The lemon has a lemon nation. Oh, honey, chow. Are they sweet? Are they tart? Oh, no. They're Myers lemons. They're sweet. But they can be tart. If you mess, you know, they're lemons lemons, or Myers lemons, whatever you want to call them. But here's what I want to ask you. I want to play something for you. And then I want to get the response. This is what happened in Washington a day after you guys are back. Roll it. Ciao. After the vote, Golden said he broke with Democrats because it provided passage for his bill that benefits lobster men here in Maine. So that bill is the Northeast Lobsterman Protection Act. It passed the House of the vote of 219 to 196. The bill was co-sponsored by Congressman Michael Waller of New York. It extends the deadline for those new fishing regulations named to protecting the Atlantic right well from 2028 to 2035. Representative Golden called it a win for fishermen in Maine and for bipartisanship in Congress.

3:02While speaking on the House floor, Golden said he is confident the bill can work for the fishing industry and whale protection. Now, there's some who want to say this bill presents us with a false choice between our fishermen and protecting and endangered species the North Atlantic right well. But the truth is we can do both. And here's how I know that. Maine fishermen are already doing it. And what say you? Well, he's not even running again. He's not even running again. And it's like whales or propaganda. Whales or democracy. I think you can have a both-and. You said it, have me explain it. I can't explain it because that's not how you do. And let me tell you something. We have caucus every week. And we have the ranking member of rules where all of this stuff goes through James McGovern. And he says, just one thing, just one thing we need to do. Just vote against the rule.

4:03Don't do Republicans work for them. If you are in the majority, then you should be able to vote for the rule, which is basically the mechanism to say this bill can come to the floor. They should be able to do that. Now, let me tell you something, Don. There have been a number of my bills in another bill. And my stuff is good, but the larger bill is crap. It's janky. It's full of poison pills. And I want my stuff to get through, but I also vote no on the rule because it is not my job to do the Republicans job for them. The speaker is supposed to be able to count and have all of his majority, folks, vote for his rule because that's what it is. So this, I mean, hard to explain my friend, very hard to explain. You're going to do this because it's about your whales? Well, I don't have whales in Los Angeles. And we don't have whales in Texas.

5:03And we don't have whales in the South where they're trying to take away our right to vote, where they're trying to put in the safe act wherever they can, where they're trying to make us debate of falsity around socialism. When we should be talking about Venezuela and oil, the graph that's happening there, what this man is trying to do with this ballroom, how this man is trying to prevent us from having free and fair elections, why gas is $8 in my district? We should be talking about that. But now we can't. I'm wondering when Republicans, Republicans because he's a Democrat, but he voted Michael Lawler co-sponsored the bill. But when do they start caring about the environment and animals and mammals? And I mean, they don't. I mean, they haven't, because let me tell you something. Earlier today, they were, they was an environmental bill, and it's all about drilling. And so they say it's about the environment, but it's really about giving more licenses to private companies to drill is more about taking away our public land.

6:04It's more about privatization. And I have to tell you something, Republicans do this thing. They have a crappy bill that they know they don't have the votes for. So they find a sweetener, and they find a weak, fragile, easy to manipulate, egotistical, Democrat. And they say, hey, I'll give you this little sweetener if you will vote with me on this. And the goal is, the discipline is, the discipline. Don, you've been talking about, Democrats need to be disciplined. The discipline is, yeah, that all sounds good, but I'm not going to vote with you, even if it is something that I like. This is the equivalent of watching someone from your sports team give a goal to the other side. When would you ever support that? Well, if somebody, if there was a sweetener, so to speak, in it that benefited me,

7:05and then nobody else, or if it was just an excuse, to be able to vote with someone who or with people who I may be friends with, or when I heard the report and why he did it, I immediately thought that the Republicans were playing chess, offering something, I'll do this. He's going to need it. It's going to be tough for him to turn down this for people in his district. So we're going to put this in front of him, and that way we'll get him to be able to come over. Yeah, but you know, the other part is, all of what you said, and some of what I'm saying also suggests premeditation. And that's another issue with this kind of activity because it means that you are, you have thought about not supporting your party. You have thought about making it easier for Republicans to pivot and to not have to be forced to talk about the cost of living being so high,

8:07the cost of gas being so high, an unnecessary, unwarened, to $2 billion a day war, the fact that you have an incompetent person running the Department of Defense, you know, all of these, and with the low morale in our military within our ranks, you should be talking about all of the growth, which is what we have been doing. And now, and now because of this vote, you know, we have distracted the American people because this has become the story. And you know, with all due respect, this is someone who's not running for re-election. And so it's like, wow, really? Right before people leave to go back home to their districts, to fight to make sure that we have a functioning government in November? Yeah. So that was a procedural vote for the two, so that offered an englucent camp, right? Also voted for the procedure. What's her story? Why did she do it? So I don't know why she did it.

9:08She did say she was helping out a friend, and then there was a tweet that said, her son went fishing and, you know, environmentalism is good. What I do know is she was also before the Rules Committee, and there's a video of the chair of the ranking member of rules like having no time for her, turning away. Because it's really a slap in the face to many of your members that are standing with you. And you know this, not everyone in the party votes the same way on a lot of bills. You have a lot of different kinds of Democrats, but we have to be disciplined when it really counts. And why should I give my vote to a Republican to make their job easier when they have been working every single day to make the lives of my constituents harder and more expensive and scarier? You know, like I'm not here for that. I have told people, I have told Republicans,

10:09you know, you're kind of okay, but my job is not to save you. And oh, by the way, do you hear that bus? It is coming for you. And I'm not the driver. It is your own president. And I'm at least telling you, but it is not my job to save you. And so when you get in the business of saving a group of people that are out to get you, you know, it really does warrant a caucus conversation with the members, not necessarily the leader, but with the members about how we treat each other. And so many folks are pissed. Hello, sorry, we're booked out at least three weeks. Yep, sorry. Another one you had to turn away? Yeah, third one today. Sunday night, my son pulled his first fish out of the Columbia River. What the DC bubble doesn't get is that working waterfronts require working people. Nature is not a teary, and you don't get effective environmentalism without the input of people who make their lives with his inheritance on the water, whether we're talking about lobsters or sea lions, working people need to seat at the table and electives need to listen to them, not data from the 1990s. Yeah, so I'll just tell you, my district is not connected to the water, but we are dealing with wildfires each and every day. So I'm helping you. Are they helping? Yeah. That's what I'm saying. We haven't got our money, and we have asked to lean in to get the FEMA money. We have asked to lean in on issues around sort of a national insurance program so that

12:14people can get insurance that they can afford. We have asked to lean in to hold this administration accountable. I would like everyone to be helping California, because if you're helping California, then you're also helping North Carolina and other states that have not gotten their FEMA money as well. And we are talking about working people, helping working families rebuild. But at the end of the day, that's not even what this is about. That is about having the discipline to be unified with your party to tell the opposition if you want to get something passed, you figure out a way to do it on your own. Work it out, people. Work it out. But don't work it out on my vote. Well, I think eight Democrats finally came over for the final vote, right? And so what pass? What does that mean? And we have a report or at least a post-screen of that. So what does that mean then represented? Well, so I think what was in that also

13:14was about denouncing socialism. And this is a messaging bill. They want to have Democrats fighting about what socialism means. And hey, look, we have socialism. First of all, there's two kinds of socialism happening right now. There's the one that many of us see when you're going to a public park, a public library, a public school, when you're calling 911 or the fire department, when you are using a highway or a freeway or a stop sign with the stop lights, when you're going to the emergency room, the county hospitals, when you're getting your Medicare, social security, that's all socialism. We all pay into those programs and so that everyone can benefit, right? And then there's what this president, your president is doing, Donald Leman, when he is going in and he is saying, hey, company, I want 10% stake of your company. I want a share of your company. I want to give tax breaks to my friends and family.

14:17And you will give it to me if I give you that contract because I want to buy in to your company. That's also a form of socialism, but that socialism is the game that this president is running. And that socialism is only helping Trump and the people on his friends and family plan. So his people are benefiting from his corrupted idea of socialism when everyone else is working really hard and paying a lot more for a lot less. So I don't have a problem with denouncing that kind of crookedness, but that's not what Republicans want to do. And that wasn't what was in this bill. Because this does not help the enthusiasm around the Democratic Party. It doesn't. Don't take it out on me. Take it out on everybody, on the people who was acting up, because let me tell you, we are, I'm walking around. People are pissed about this, you're right. So throw some lemons. Throw some lemons. People are pissed. Thank you, Representative. Go ahead, go ahead. And be engaged and still be enraged. So I tell people, look, you could have your whole j-gos. You could be cursing all your way, all the way to the polls, but you better vote. And you better vote with base in your chest, because we have an opportunity to change this, to check this, and to, you know, we've been fighting.

16:20Now it's time to do. We have an opportunity to do, and we will still be held accountable every two years. That's what happens. But we've got to, like I'm pissed, real talk. Pist is hell. My plan is to vote and get everybody in the house, even the young ones that forget, when it's time to vote, everybody's got to get up, because we've got to put a stop to this. And I also believe that, you know, it's, this was, this was out of the ordinary. This was out of the ordinary. Now, for me, once shame on you, film for me twice shame on me. Me, yeah. But we, you all have been great at holding folks accountable, and showing the receipts, so people know why and what they are voting on when it comes time to vote. Thanks for watching everybody.
