It's the Day the Mollie Show. After a three day weekend, it's our show. We're on to something here with that three. I said that last night. I said, this is a way to do it. How about another one next weekend? All right. Let's do that. Actually, we do have another one. Yeah. This one was federally scheduled. Right. We didn't have it. We're not going to have it. It's federal. It's right we had to. Well, by law. Oh, but. It really does make such a difference that extra day. And then going into a four day work week, which all of us are doing this time. Yep. But the kids have school today, right? Yeah, I think so. I think so. Because, well, one of the men, one of the many grandchildren that I spend time with was so. Nope. We don't have school tomorrow. And I thought, well, I wonder if they, maybe they do a four day thing. I remember how the kids used to try to try to sneak one by you. Yeah. Oh, no, we don't have school today.
And it all happens. Yes. Welcome in one and all. This is the day of the Mollie Show. It's go time. It is the eighth day of September. It is raining now. However, the rain will, will dissipate as the day goes on. And then we're close to 80 degrees. I don't know. Tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm okay with that with a cleansing rain as you put it. That is fine. It poured Saturday night or Sunday night after the concert. That night. We were up very, very late. We were the one stumbling around the Yucacino into the at wee hours. Oh, that's right. You guys stay. Waiting for an Uber and stuff. It was pouring sheets of rain. And just, which was great because nobody cared at that hour. Did you say, Oh, sheet rain. Yes. Did you win? Did you win? I didn't lose. Actually, I, well, here's what I'll tell the story, but the place was packed. And I don't know that the casino realized how many people were going to stay.
Because it's a Sunday night. Yeah. But it was packed. And I'm the lines for everything. Even to get a soda. It was like 12 deep. Ooh. So I sat down. I sat my little keister down at a slot machine. And I was instantly up, doubled my money. But the great ones do. Yeah. It was. It was fun. Super fun. Oh, it was one of the many highlights of the weekend. Oh, yes. Yes, yes. So do you remember? So Friday, Friday ends. And I had home. And I'm getting stuff done. And all in preparation for our fantasy football draft. Do you remember the first fantasy football draft you were ever in? I will never forget it. April. I don't know if you're up and listening. My partner, my friend, my co manager. We were on the phone and on it. And I was at the casino Friday for a while. I had a bunch of stuff I had to do first. But I was winning. And I was like, oh my god, I cannot believe I decided to have a draft. What am I doing? And I had to leave to go home to do it. How did yours turn out? Well, according to the charts and graphs, it turned it out.
Turned out very well. Did you look at the grading thing after? No. And then the playoff percentage. I was like, this is all of their analytics. And that in mind, do. I don't know that I checked yours to be honest. I can't get back in there. I don't know any of the passwords. But somebody who's in there. I think I did get the. The Ram's defense. Yeah. I don't know what's good. Okay. I have three quarterbacks accidentally. Accidentally. Well, I was, it was confusing. It's scary. You don't. Here's the thing I didn't realize is that. They put it all in you can you can filter it by their positions, right? Yes. I didn't know that. So now I'm going down and then I'm putting people. I'm trying to put them in the queue. And then somebody would take them. Right. And when they did that, the whole thing would read. There wasn't alphabetical. It was how are you supposed to pick? How are you supposed to and then I look for somebody and I go, okay.
And we want someone. So we need somebody from this team. And then oh, somebody took it. Yeah. That can be very frustrating. But I did pay attention to the by week situation. Okay. That's good. So that I didn't have a lot and we're like eight. We need an eight. We need a week eight. We need somebody who was not going to be well, we can have them. Yeah. I was very happy with the draft because it went incredibly fast. It we blazed through that. I was kind of thinking, okay, well, this is, you know, usually is a couple hours. And, you know, it was an hour. It was about an hour. Yeah. Well, Quinn was auto drafting because he was working. And so he was taking up the whole 90 seconds a lot of the time. You know, you get the 90 seconds and then he was just letting it go. Well, that's, that means that he wasn't on auto drafted. He was trying to do it, but then just didn't get to it. If you are, if you, if you hit the auto draft, it'll draft right the second it goes to you. Why is that? A lot of time expired. Then it picked one for you. No.
No. Oh, well, that's more on that in a bit with my other draft. Oh, boy. Yeah. That had two fantasy football. The weekend was, it was a, was a bookend with the, yeah, Friday was the David Monley league, Iron Sharpens Iron League. Yes. Yeah. So, and you're in you, you're done your first fantasy football draft and you have a team. I have a team. I just have a couple of things worth taking. Red Army. It's just emotional identify people that look at me. You know, and what are you asking? What is your second spin? tez. For my football football. And it's definitely one of the more part of it, so you know you have a hundred. One of the only corporate ones we use is Robert敢. That's it, so you could know by the time your desire was in his voice is to have fun on that level. And then, Oh, well, that much pressure. Worth the annual debate? Yes. chart thing and then I called them and I said what does this even mean like I need to talk to somebody and then he said all right well let me know why you
picked the Rams defense because he know I know I know he is but I also they're picked they're like the number one pick to win the whole thing yeah so April and I as co people decided that's what we would do for our team the what was your plan team and we said that actually the it is a perfect name for our team because what was our plan well you're in now yeah it's fun it's fun I'll have to look at the league I don't even know who we played the first week or who I play who you play I don't know it's gonna be very exciting April did check and see we were predicted to win but think we need to trade some of our bench players since some of our team isn't going to play because they're hurt okay and then yes Steve thank you Steve for your help you're very excited so that was very exciting and then Saturday morning we did me and my trusty loyal dog she's trusty and loyal she's my trusty loyal dog we did our tide for the longest
walk in the history of all walks wow we did a super long route yeah and we saw coyote you did yes yeah it was a little a little scared now we did not see the coyote but I saw the coyote from a distance and then I'm kind of watching it and he did kind of move a little closer to us but no no issues though it was the first of two coyote sighting sightings over the weekend oh man I've been seeing while I hear them down at the golf course and it's creepy especially usually it's in the fall and it'll be at night and there's like a moon and oh then they all yeah it's like oh it's very unsettling so that was it was a very good start today we I think we finished our walk by 10 o'clock that's great yeah the morning was good and it was you know it's like almost two hours as our is the is the long route and everything so then get home kind of regroup and then Nadine came over and then it was haircut time for humans and creatures
you're hiding your new hair do well I always wear hat anyway I was I was full long full on display on TV but so we did so I get a haircut first and then then it's time to give Maui a haircut and so we get her in the get her in the tub she was very good I think she knows when it's haircut time because it's like okay come on up come on and normally anytime I tell her to come anywhere she's right there yeah but this time we had all the tools up there and everything and we said and I was trying to call her and she was just kind of looking at me it's no come on and then finally she she came up and hopped in the tub and so she got she I think looks pretty good she she's groomed up she a lot of hair came off yeah so she's she's good for a while she needs a bath still but I thought that since so much of her fur came off that's like well it'll be all right oh yeah oh yeah they they always seemed a way to like
though reef the oldest and they don't smell bad anymore I don't know how they do yeah yeah because they're not meant to shower and get think about it like the dogs get bathed all the time yeah I don't think that's a normal thing so that was great and then Saturday was also kind of the start of the college football season and so I'm and I had a few that was a very productive day on Saturday but did all that stuff and had some store outings and everything well then I think I'm just going to sit and relax and watch some exciting college football action so I'm normally a person that is rooting for an upset just just by nature you know unless I have you know a dog in the fight which I kind of did when Michigan was taking on Western Michigan oh okay Michigan powerhouse they've won more college football games than any college in the history of college
football okay but you know my son goes there go blue went there go blue everything's exciting they fill the big house 105,000 people and they pay the difference between a HELOC and an HEI is more than spelling a HELOC means monthly payments a splotero HEI doesn't a HELOC has strict requirements a splotero HEI only requires a 500 minimum credit score with no income requirement visit SPL ITERO.com today and access your home's equity homeowners if you want to sell your house fast for all cash stop what you are doing and listen to this because Osborne homes wants to buy your house right now I am Mike from Osborne homes and I want to buy your house nobody buys more homes in California than Osborne whether it's a total fixer upper or in perfect condition Osborne homes is the easiest way to sell your house fast for all cash best of all when you sell your house to Osborne homes there are zero fees and zero commissions plus no banks no realtors no repairs and no waiting to close we buy our house as is for all cash call us right now to get your free no obligation all cash offer we are here

we've made our own the signature touches that set each piece apart and styles that are distinctively cold water creek for a wardrobe you can count on season after season visit coldwater creek dot com shop new arrivals and save 15% on purchases seventy five dollars or more with code i heart western michigan to come in and and get slaughtered by that part of the deal like well you're a smaller school you guys come over here and will play you in a game and then and then we'll send you on your way with your money because you can't program you came to the big house and you and you got slaughtered uh... michigan was a twenty eight point favorite oh wow so again my by nature i'm rooting for an upset i just want to be close some watching and this western michigan team is is winning like their their winning the game outright it's going on and on and
thinking okay now enough uh... let's not mess around guys let's take care of business you're not gonna cover the spread of course but you know you don't lose don't lose exactly right not the big house not with a hundred five thousand people watching right so uh... it goes all the way down to the final set have you heard about the the controversy all okay uh... i'm going to play the clip because i watched it all live okay in real time everything that happened so michigan is down twelve to seven they have to throw a hail marie to try and win the game they throw it in the end zone incomplete games over western michigan has the stunner of all college football basically a thirty point underdog goes into michigan and wins the game but wait there's one extra second left what so here is the dramatic and oh my god
yeah you got it you got to hear this this is how and i i watched it all happened so it was a rollercoaster of emotions here we go nine second remaining under one five second one under was going to toss a toward the end zone into the crowd and out of bounds time expires it's the attack from the mac western michigan sent shock waves across the college football world and both of the week one stunner they take down the Wolverines twelve to seven the previous play is under further review after review there's one second remaining in the game third down deep drop the unwanted towards the end zone into the crowd and it's called 3G you turn in touchdown a miracle by michigan's studio over so that's what happened
and the michigan michigan is a 30 point favorite basically okay they beat this team on some shaky stuff then they storm the field like they've you know one a national they should be ashamed of themselves for being that closed to 30 point underdog that's right so Bob and he says no day western michigan did win well i think you can make a case for that yeah there was then there's all the controversy on all the social media about the the this secret second that they found and they said well this is the they even had the the you know they have a ref that's part of the broadcast crew a former referee and you say well no if this is the actual footage then there is no time left and we don't know where they found this extra second then there are all the press conferences the day after where they all the you know big 10 officials are well now we have a special
clock that has the tenths of seconds and it was point 0.06 which is closer to one therefore we said let's put a one second on here so when when they go back there's just one second on the clock yes and they get their playoff in one second yeah how is there even time to well because everything is stopped you know so it's just that it starts with a snap of the ball and then that then they throw it down there and then and so everything is fine Michigan oh boy but the thing is that like you can't feel great about it because western Michigan though is legit I think they're you know they were pushing Michigan off the and Michigan is one of those schools that you know they pay for all these players I mean they're they're their budget is off the chart so anyway I know it stirred up a lot of a lot of fire over the weekend well Trevor says rigged cheaters
that was some one second BS Kendra says they lost that game and they know it Michigan I understand I understand well I didn't even see it now I'm yeah yeah now I'm I'm gonna take to the streets I'm gonna tip over a car after the show sure why not we'll get this is for Michigan this is for western Michigan so that was very exciting okay and then of course all of the the text going back and forth my son wasn't even watching the game it was one of those games where it was like you know well they're just it's the opening game of the season there's a lot of teams that will play smaller schools for their first game just to sort of yeah you know get into the flow of everything and pack their stadium make money and then they use hey these other schools to come in and sort of be the sacrificial lamb yeah including the Arizona State game which Sam will be in to talk about
when he comes in around 830 or so he went to the Arizona State game they were playing I believe it's Morgan State and I think the final was 70 to 3 and it was one of those games I'd never heard of this before where they get to the fourth quarter and it's so lopsided that they just said hey are you guys okay if we shorten the game and everybody says yes and so the game was actually not even the full game but they just that's how those games are supposed to be well and I think you can make a case for it you don't want to be get hurt it's it's decided there's no way they come back so why not just wash our hands of it so anyway so that was the that was some some craziness of you know yeah obviously Michigan did not cover the spread then we go to Sunday an apple cup oh yeah what happened but that kuggers and huskies and remember I boldly stated
the kuggers were 24 and a half point underdogs and they're playing you know at husky stadium and then first time ever that the you know apple cup is so early and all these things but I watched almost all of that as well kuggers hung tough they hung very very tough they actually had a chance to make it a game they lost by ten or four they lost by 14 but you know and no and there's more they cover the spread oh they did cover the yeah they cover got kuggers cover you know the kuggers oh right okay yeah they were 24 point underdogs right but so if you just bet if you bet the huskies then that they didn't they would have to win by 24 right to make it right to cover the point so some exciting football action yeah so that was that that was so that was Sunday and then
that also was another fantasy football draft oh boy so so I'm getting ready for for that my second fantasy football drive and this is the league that I've been in for 10 years it's the 10th anniversary of our league and and it started at five but we wanted to leave to go to northern quest by a little after six to be there for the earth win and fire concert more on that in a bit so so I'm on the computer and I'm I'm drafting and everything and then I thought well let me switch it over to my phone because I may need to draft on my phone if we're in route because this draft took a little longer it's like people were taking longer to to make their picks and everything so we get to about the 13th round and I switch over and then it when you switch over on to your phone it shuts off your computer so then it's like oh wait a second I don't want to do that yet so then I you know so it's kind of a weird deal so then I was one of the auto draft guys so for the last three
picks of my other league I was on auto draft as we headed out to northern quest how did it turn out though how's your team there it's okay according to the to the ESPN I have like I had an A plus on the first draft and then a C grade for the second draft who did your defense for let's see I need to check on that I need April to update we're we're up against Trevor's team the hardass rehoodlims that's a great name yeah that is but I don't remember what how we score I she can log in there because we were both logged in but then only one manager can like do the picking okay so she can see our team and stuff but oh it's very it is very exciting so and then we get out to to northern quest and both needing and we're both starving yeah and and the food I know it was like
it was like sandwiches and like potato salad macaron salad broccoli salad it was so good man I went a little crazy I saw I saw you guys come in and then I saw some of the food being consumed while you were in line I saw like you were standing at the end of the line and you were getting stuff but then I was like well there's oh he's already he's already he's already bothered him do you know the difference between a HELOC and an HCI um spelling well they are spelled differently but no while both are ways to access your home's equity they're very different you see a HELOC comes with monthly payments boo while a splitter oh HCI doesn't It's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value. You get cash up front, and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle, refinance, or sell. Hooray! Are you going to cheer through this whole explanation? Yes! Excellent.
Okay, a HELOC has strict income and credit requirements. Boo! Hiss! While an HEI from Sputero is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score. And there's no income requirement. Huzzah! Did you say Huzzah? I'm trying to bring it back. Well, good luck to you. Visit spltitiro.com today and access your home's equity. You know what quality feels like? You can see it in the way of fabric moves. Recognize it in a flawless fit and appreciate it in the details that make our styles unique. So, I'm assuming like, oh, well, just hear some raps and sandwiches, but then you get into it and their desserts were really good, too. And we actually picked up the parkers. So I drive on the way there and then Nadine can drive everybody back. Yeah. So we take it all in. I thought the show was everything that I wanted it to be. I know the guys can't really hit some of the notes like they used to, but I give them a pass for that. I loved it.
I loved it, too. I love their style. How old are those guys? Well, Philip Bailey is 75. Wow. And then I think the other, there were three original members in, yeah, that were there. That's crazy. So that's super cool. They just look so great, too. And they're so like, they just have this swagger about them that it's like, and they move. I like when they do the little moves together and stuff. It was, it was super fun. And luckily, that was the other thing. So I'm wearing pants, which I haven't worn pants in forever. So I'm wearing pants. And then last minute decision, I decide to bring a pullover or a hoodie. And I think, well, I'm not going to need this, but I'll just bring it just in case. And then as soon as we got out of the car and the parking right, oh, I'm going to bring, I'm going to wear that hoodie. It was a little chilly, especially with the wind coming through. And while we were eating, it was like, oh, man, I am so glad that I have this because
I was cold. Then we get upstairs and they have the heaters on. And the heater was absolutely fantastic. That became kind of the, kind of the central point of our little gathering. Some of us didn't realize there would be heater upstairs. And I remember Mary, because I was with my friend Mary, she said, we got to dress warm because we had the whole brand new car layout experience where we had to leave the show early. We were so uncomfortably cold. Well, I had a sweatshirt and I had a big sweater that I brought. She had kind of a sweater, but nothing, we had long pants on. Sitting and eating, the wind was whipping through. It was so cold that we both went and bought sweatshirt. Oh, that's right. Yeah, thinking, okay, and I will say this, having the sweatshirt all the difference in the world. I'm fine. I'm just going to use this to wear long pants until after Labor Day. So he's in his shorts and a vest. He has a heated vest though. I saw the heated vest. Yeah, pretty cool. So then we get upstairs and there's the heater.
And at one point I'm like, oh, I should have a little hot. Now I got my $75 sweatshirt on. Here's the crazy thing too is that they want tips. Like when you buy a swag, they turn the thing to you and it says, and you've got to do something. And I'm like, why am I giving you $7? I don't know how this works. I just hope the workers get it. I hope that it goes to them. But I'm sure later on they're like, and do you see how many sweatshirts we have? Awesome. It probably works out great for them when you don't know the weather situation. But you know, as the night went on, it got way better. The wind died down and I, I mean, as crazy as it sounds, I think it got warmer as the night went on. Oh, totally. Yeah. It was just super leaving. It was beautiful. It was perfect night. Once the wind stopped, the temperature itself was fine. It was the wind that was making it. So it was uncomfortable. But then with the heater and then we were up dancing and stuff. And I'd like to apologize for your friend Kevin Parker and my boyfriend Ken because they
were on you like glue. Yes, they were. I was their deal. That's their little bit. I do. But it was like, I said, and then I said, you know what's funny? I said, because we're standing behind. And I said, what would be more awkward than what you guys are doing is if I came up and like settled up. They're like, you have to do it. I said, no, our life will change forever. I said, I'm not doing that because what they were doing is Dave's trying to enjoy the concert. He was there with Nadine and they're dancing and he's having his wine and he's having a good time in Kevin Parker and my boyfriend won't stop. What would they do? harassing? Well, they were like, you know, slightly were like touching my back. And it was like, I think they were trying to make me think that it was Nadine and not them. Because Nadine was doing that too. And it's like, but then I would feel like three hands on me. I know this is something's not right here. And it's like, guys, just, you know, and it was, it was funny for the first few times.
But then it was just, okay, guys, let's. And then they were like almost like doing the, they were dancing on you. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I think I did a couple of times. You guys knock it off like that's. Yeah. Yeah, you gave them a stern warning. I did. I said, leave them alone. Yeah. But we had a blast. Yeah. And even, and the, you know, the parkers, I think Carrie said, I, I love this way more than I thought I would. That was so great. And, you know, they, they do. They got a ton of hits. It was all fun music. So. I was telling her about when Mary and I saw them in LA with all that in the whole Eagles thing and that they were one of our favorite things of that whole festival. Yeah. That they were brought the fun. And when we saw them in Seattle with Chicago, they far outshined because of the kind of show they do and because it was a huge arena thing, they were able to, it hit the every corner, right, where Chicago for some reason it fell flat in that setting.
But we loved Earthwinn fire in that. They're, they're fun. They don't have to entertain. It was great. And the show ended. What time was the show done? It was, it was like nine. Yeah. Nine, little after nine. Yeah. Perfect. And then that was it first, but I know you guys went back in. Be sure as hell did. Yeah. We were all tell the story in a minute. It's a little bit of a debacle. I felt like an amateur in that I bought a sweatshirt when I didn't need to. And then we opted for an Uber to go home. But the Uber situation at Northern Quest is interesting because they don't pick you up at the main entrance. If you call an Uber there, you would think Valley, main Valley, and we're telling this gal, we're at the main valley. It is pouring sheets of rain at this point. It's freezing and we're standing outside. Well, she's at the other kids quest like near BnB. That's where they, I think that's where they send to Ubers Valley is closed completely, but there's still that driveway. And Ken is communicating with her and back and forth and back and forth.
And he's talking to her and she's like, I don't, not from here. I don't know. And we're like, she was very nice, but we finally get in the car and she's like, I'm just not from around here. We're like, oh, we're from Deer Park. Like, what the fuck is from around here? That is from actually, but it's pouring down right and she's driving like 30 miles an hour and she's got a line of cars behind her. And it was almost like, what, how long did you guys stay? Well, we tried to leave at midnight and it was like one, I was almost, we didn't get home till after one. It took so long to get the Uber. And then she was driving so slowly. And so I'm looking behind and I see the line of cars and their big trucks and the lights are flashing on us. And I'm thinking, oh my god, it's like a scene out of dual or something. We're there. And I thought, lady, you got to press on the gas. So once you make the left to go past the college, all of them, blah, like, and they do the look over. Yeah, how is that? I know those situations. We were in no position, Bakers, you know, we're just like, we can't drive.
We don't have a car here. We're loopy. So we got home late. It was after one o'clock. Yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's fun. We had fun. Party in all my life. Yes, I could not believe how late we stayed out because last night we went to bed at 810. And I got in bed. I said, this is the greatest thing ever. Oh my god, we're in bed. 810. It was, it was fun. But the place was packed. And I just think they, I think they underestimated how many people would stick around. Right. And well, I think they probably, they were, you know, when the, when the, uh, concert schedule came out, it's like, oh, it's a Sunday night. I don't know. But then, oh, it's the Sunday before labor day. That's almost, that's a weekend night. And then, you know, more people jumped in. Yeah. It was, I loved the show. It was everything that I, and I, I told everybody the same thing. It's like, I was going to like it no matter what. Yeah. I mean, even if it was, if everybody said it was terrible, I would find a way to like it. But it worked. They were, they, you know, it's, it's just fun music.
It's just, you're, you're paying for those wonderful memories. Yes. So loved, loved it all. Me too. That was a fun night. And then more music. Did you do more music yesterday? Oh, did, didn't you go to Greenbluff? Yes, we did. Yeah. Yeah, I'm trying to think of yesterday, uh, started the day, oh, yesterday was the only day that Maui did not get a walk. Because it was raining in the morning. Yeah. It was kind of, kind of raining and everything. And, um, our plan was that we were going to go to Greenbluff and then go to the Comstock, the, uh, uh, Spokane Symphony, you know, which is kind of a tradition. Um, but then, uh, Nadine sends me the thing. They had postponed the Spokane Symphony in the park thing. They moved it to tonight. Oh, really? Yeah, because of, because of weather situations. Okay. So that kind of opened up the day a little bit. So, uh, so she comes over and we, we get everything figured out.
And then I, I'm driving to Greenbluff and then she's going to drive back and, and she said, uh, just in case you want to have some wine and I thought, well, they have wine. I'm going to drink it. Of course. That's what we're going to do. So we, we get out there and, uh, we get a great apartment, but we got there probably around. Do you know the difference between a Helak and an HEEI? Um, spelling? Well, they are spelled differently, but no. While both are ways to access your home's equity, they're very different. You see, a Helak comes with monthly payments. Boo! While a Splatero HEEI doesn't. It's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value. You get cash up front and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle, refinance or sell. Hooray! Are you going to cheer through this whole explanation? Yes. Excellent. Okay. A Helak has strict income and credit requirements. Boo! Hiss! HEEI from Splatero is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500
minimum credit score. And there's no income requirement. Hiss! Did you say Hiss. I'm trying to bring it back. Well, good luck to you. Visit spltitiro.com today and access your home's equity. They went to seven. Maybe it's a little before we got there. But there were people kind of leaving. So we got a great parking spot. This deal that they did up at Green Bluff, our friend's ex-harvest house. They had a home run with this thing. Stopped on the bluff. Oh, it was so great. It was just right when we got there they had all the food on one side. So we kind of scoped it all out. Truth be told we had six different food things. Nice. Because they were doing smaller portions. Some of them were smaller portions but not all of them. Like I had the Italian New York style sausage. Oh my god. That was the full portion.
And I got 99% of that. Then they had the rice bowls. We also had a macaroni and cheese. They had the daddy mat people there. We had two different desserts. They. It was so great. And then our friends Kim and Todd, they're the guys that created this whole thing. And it was their first one ever. They went into it kind of nervous. They were on our show back late July. And then we reran the interview on Friday. Just for people that, hey, if you're thinking about doing something, well, we were chatting with them. And they're telling us the story of how it all came together. They said on Saturday, it was completely full. And they had live music going on the whole time. And they said we were kind of standing on the hillside, looking down, seeing all the people there, seeing the music's beautiful weather. And they said, we almost started to cry.
They were so happy. And they were thrilled with the outcome. It's so much work that they are hard workers anyway. And they sort of put, now they have, they said, usually this Labor Day is their rest day, their rest day. And before the big season starts, well, now, they'll go into their highest season. It was fantastic. So, and we've already pledged that we're going to pick a day next year, either the Saturday or the Sunday, or maybe the Monday. I don't know, one of those days. And we'll make a full day of it. We'll go out there early. And yeah, when we were like sitting on a hay bale, there's live music going. We had had our foot, we had the pumpkin donuts. I brought some of those in. I couldn't go to eat those up. And just kind of taking it all in. It was absolutely fantastic. And the weather held out for them, okay. It was great. Yeah. They had, there was one, I guess, where they are. And just the sort of the terrain,
there's stretches of time where like wind will come through. And they said that on one of their, they call it the beer patio, or what do they call it? The beer, it had a catchy name. But anyway, the wind came through, and one of the umbrellas took off. Oh, oh, oh. They said, oh, we were driving up. And we saw one of our umbrellas flying by. But it was very, very short lived. I mean, there was, you know, maybe a couple sprinkles here and there. That's good, because it was, it was iffy. It was often at all. Yep. And then I think about even when they're not, when it, because of the way it poured on Sunday night, that you wake up to just saturated everything you wonder about that too. But that's a great, well, I'm glad I didn't make it up there. They were just, it was just so, so great to talk to them. And then saw Melinda, you know, the, we always see her on Thursdays. Oh, yeah, yeah. And Cage, Q had the, they were at backs doing part of the show on Friday morning.
So people, so Cage, Q had a, had a big involvement. And they were very happy, but I said, oh, Cage, Q did a great job in covering this and that helped more people come out. Time. Told them about our re-running of the interview and everything. So it was a lot of happy people. Good. Super cool. And then lost in all that. Not only is there live music and the food and all that kind of stuff, but then they have all their fruits and vegetables for sale. Nadine bought a giant box of peaches. Ooh. And then a half of a watermelon. They had all kinds. They had pears and apples and everything there. There was some plums that Noah, because Noah, yeah. He was out there on Friday. Yeah. Yeah. And he brought the plums in. And then actually at first they took a bite. They said it's a little bitter. And then as I got into it, I was like, oh, this is actually really delicious. Now they did do a lot of coverage of that. It was super cool. And then, so then after taking in a lot of food in a short amount
of time, it was very good. All the food was fantastic. There's a little wine stand. And I said, well, I have some wine. And we go over there. And it's Mary Hill. Our friends at Mary Hill, where they jumped in on this thing. And so they'll be a part of it as well moving forward. They said the only thing is we probably should have had more. Food and I told them I said, you will have no problem because everybody's going to want to be a part of this thing next year. It was sensational. Why would they want more food? Just for because they had so many people. When we were there, there was maybe two deep or three deep on some of the food things.
But I guess Saturday, they had lots of people and everything. It was their first year, so it will be even better next year. And it was great this year. I was so happy for that. It was a very, very nice deal. So we took that all in and then perfect timing because on the way home, Nadine is driving now after I had my third or fourth couple of wine. As one would do its vacation. But then it starts raining on the way home. And then by the time we got home, it was like, okay, this is real rain. It was good that they canceled the other thing. The symphony thing or whatever. Because they moved it. Right. Right. The rain was just, it was. I liked it, but I was feeling for all the people. It's still well, we had our friends who were out the gorge and we were getting videos from them. Oh, yeah.
I think it was. Yesterday morning. I can't remember which more. Maybe it was Sunday morning. Them under the hot awning with a fire going. It was pouring down rain. And so I don't know how the Dave Matthews. I don't know how the showtime went for them. But I was thinking if we had so much rain Sunday night at midnight, they had to have had it at 10 on the, you know, a couple hours previous. So I'm just wondering how that all worked out for them. They were sending me pictures. And you would love it here. I'm like, I'm so happy for you. Good for you guys. They loved it. So that's good. So that's it. Yeah, a lot of music and food. A lot of food. Oh boy, a lot of food. And football. And football controversial football. Yes. Well, I left here and I said, I want to go home and get the doggy out on a walk early. So I did that. Ran home, got her on a walk. Then I had to go to the valley and meet up with some young people
who needed stuff from our safety net storage units. Now I'm out the valley. Then got this window. The window. I know what happened when there's windows and when in the world, if I had to make a plan to get home by six o'clock for drafting fantasy football draft. So I had out west and it's going, it's going well. I'm having a good time. All the machines are doing all the things that I like them to do. And I'm not winning millions, but I'm not losing. And I'm very, very happy. It's probably good that I had a hard out because I would have stayed. And I would have sometimes see what like changes. So I grabbed some food there thinking, I'm not going to have time to cook. I got to be home for the draft. What do you get? What kind of food you get? Oh, just some like the Asian food stuff. So. So I get home and I get April on the phone. So now we're on speaker phone. And at first I call D&D Steve. He sends me a whole sheet of stuff, which I don't know all these people, but. Which it was, it was great. So then I get her on the phone. Then we're in and it does that.
And it starts doing the thing about your. So it took me about four rounds to get into the groove of things and to see how it was going to go. And because it was the snake. So it went this way, then back this way. So anyway, we were, we were, you know, looking at pictures of the guys. And we're looking at their outfits. And we're looking, you know, we're deciding. I think that she had, I think her husband was in the background talking sense. But we, she knew, she knew way more. She had, she had done some research. And she, yeah. So anyway, it was, it was very fun. And it went faster than I thought it did for sure. And then I don't know what I don't remember even what I watched on TV. I was in bed pretty early Friday night. I was, I was like, this is going to be great. I'm going to, because Saturday morning was an early morning up, going, gathering things, doing things. And then I had to court a lane to see my mom. And I asked her if she would help me build these, you know, when you do an auction, you got to build all the baskets for the silent auction.
And my mom's really good at that. So I had all this stuff, then she had stuff. And so I get there. And we spent several hours building these baskets, which was great. It was fun. It was, I had not been to my mom's house since my Aunt Margaret's birthday in March. Oh my gosh. That's crazy. That's great. That's for you. Well, we talk six months. I know. We talk three times a day. And she, but she comes to town a lot. She'll stay at can. And when we go to court of lane, we go stay at the, at the RV place. And she comes in. So I see her. But I just hadn't been there. It was a weird thing. Anyway, the house is, it's always, it's always great to see the house and everything. So we had a good time. My brother came in. He made us dinner. And then we showed our little movie to his girlfriend Tiffany Shen. She hadn't seen it yet. So we got, she, she was a good audience. It was great. So that gave us a little boost because you know, we're, we have all of our festival stuff now. All of it is entered. Now we just wait to see if we get accepted. Oh, it's all very exciting. So we did that.
And we stayed up a little bit late. Well, a little bit later. And you know, I haven't been having the bad idea of bourbon. I've been sticking to like the clear liquid stuff. And when in Rome. And it's my mom. Bad idea of bourbon here. Combs. The problem with it is not that it, it's, it's very sugary. And so the sleep is a little bit, you know, sleep as well. And we didn't have a lot. We were in bed early, but I just didn't sleep as well as I could have. So I woke up Sunday just a little. Little out of it entire. But I felt good because we got so much accomplished. But then it's time to go home and meet up with my son and the girls. And so I got to see. So this is Sunday day before the. Yes. So I got to see my mom and my brother. I got to see all of the grandkids and my son and Ken and my friend Mary. And I got to see. It was, it was, it was. This whole three day weekend thing you guys. We need to, we need to pass a law.
Press a law. I am three day weekends up. So yeah, so this is Sunday. Before the concert. We go. And we spend the afternoon together, which was great. And then it's time to get ready for the concert. So Mary picks us up and then her brother met us there. So we're thinking, okay, we'll see. We'll see if we want to stay afterwards. And I said, because I had taken a nap, I was, I was a little tired on Sunday. And I said, I don't know if I'm in a one-on-one state. But usually I don't. You want to have the option though. I want to have the option. I said, what do you think if. If we decide to stay that maybe we just Uber home later. And, and so he said, we'll see. Well, let's see how you feel. Yeah. And I knew what it was only 10 after nine. Yeah. It said, I'm staying. And so I send Mary home. I hear my switcher and my sweater. I always there for the transfer. And then we walked Mary to the parking garage. Yeah. Yeah. So she left us behind. And it was so fun. Because it was, but it was very, very crowded.
And people were, it was like a long lines for drinks and stuff. I just think that they just didn't think that there'd be that many people. I don't know. But I got to play all my fun machines. And so then Ken says, I'm going to go play something. So I come across him and a bunch of young guys. They're playing roulette. And so I came up and I said, now, how are you doing? I said, are you want to play more than the young guy goes, let him stay. I'll buy you a drink. And I said, well, and I showed the ticket. I had he goes, no, you buy me a drink. Wait a second. I said, I said, things are going well. I said, so I said, you, I went and got him another drink. And I said, well, stay for a little while, which was good. It was fun. I said, well, I'm going to go play. I said, well, I'm going to go play. I said, well, I'm going to go play.
And he's calling her and talking to her. So finally, it's decided, have her stay there. So now we marked ourselves back across the casino. We had to go all the way to the other side. And me, I'm thinking, I could have been gambling this whole time. Like, what is going on? I could have been doing this. But finally get her and she was very nice. But not, you know, didn't instill a whole lot of confidence. But it's raining and it's dark and it's the back way. And she's inching us home. And I've never had it take that long to get home. It's 12 minutes door to door from my house to the casino. 14 tops. This was like 23 minutes. Seriously. She was just like, and her, her windshield wipers are going, and I'm like, oh my God, there's people. This is a nightmare. So anyway, we get home and then we stayed up for a little bit. But couldn't really sleep in very much yesterday. And then I spent the day with Alex. We went to see the coyote versus acne. Oh, I love you. Oh, good. And the place was packed.
Every seat was taken. It was a 135 showing yesterday at Northtown. And the whole place was packed. And we were, there was a lady next to me. Look, young, a little younger than I was. She was by herself. Just one seat. You know, I could tell when I reserved the seats. Yeah. That it was one seat. And there were only two really good seats left when we reserved. And I thought, who is that person? I thought it's going to be some guy like, you know, but no, she was. So she and I were both giggling at the same stuff. And Alex would look at me like, why is that funny? Like because it's old school and it's bugs funny. And he is the informant. Like that's funny. But remember, um, Dr. Laurie, remember? Oh, he had the big eyes and he took like, he, oh, this and this. He's, he was like the one of the main characters that were, you know, part of the deal. But it was really clever. I liked it a lot. It was funny. I probably won that I will see. I won't, I won't see it at the theater. But when it comes to a streaming thing, yeah. And there's this lady. She's in the, she's in euphoria.
And her whole thing is that she's. This is Dave Roberts. If you're heading into summer without a medical emergency kit, you're taking a risk. Most people don't think about until it's too late. Monitored and that's how she is in everything and she's in it and she's she's pretty funny. It's a cast of people that I've never seen before. Just besides Will or not or you will for tape. I loved it. So we went there. I ate way too much popcorn. I was hungry. I went in hungry. I ate a bunch of popcorn and I woke up feeling very puffy.
Puffy. Puffy. So we got him home and then came over and then we had some dinner and we did a rewatch of Liar Liar. The Jim Carrier movie. Yeah. He is exhausting. I was thinking about a lot of Jim Carrier and that what it would be like to they have some bloopers after the movie that run under the thing. And I said that it would be exhausting to do a film with him. I would imagine you'd just be like, okay. Bring it down like settle. This is enough with you already. But it was funny. And then we were in bed at 8. I was watching Seinfeld. Oh, I think it was the big hands one where she has the manhand. Oh, yeah, I got. So I got. Yeah. So it got to see all those people that got stuff done for the auction, which was really good. Went to a concert. Went to a movie. Saw the kid.
The doggy only got one walk though. She was. She was because I got Saturday morning. I was up early. Oh, and then our friend, Jen, who is one of our really good listeners. She and her wife have a new puppy. And I had her baseball mitt. And I said, well, I'm going to bring the baseball mitt by. And can I, I want to get hands on that puppy. I'm going to get hands on the puppy. And so I got hands on it. His name is Franky blue eyes. He's so cute. And I was just. It's not a pizza. Yeah. I had it. So that I guess it's. I know. I know. And then put them to get home and the dog. And my dog is like not only is she not getting walk, but I speak of their two dogs. And then she was just very upset by that. So I had to take her out to the valley to. To Ken's house to drop her off. And she got a big walk there though. He took her for a walk. Anyway, it was a great weekend. It was a wonderful weekend. Yes. Yes. There was one other thing that happened. So right before the draft on Sunday. Yes.
And this is right before. You know Sunday night is the earth. When in fire concert. So getting ready for the draft. The dog start going crazy. I'm thinking what is going on? And I think, Oh, I'll bet it's somebody. Out getting books from the book library, because it's the lot of activity with the book library. So I look out there and I see this guy. And the whole library thing is crumbled to the ground. Like it's all like it's just the roof is off and he's trying to you know fix it And I'm kind of watching this through the window and I thought oh no and then I but then the draft is starting like it's like it's happening It's okay. So I tell my daughter. She was she was she was getting ready to go to the concert too So I said oh the something happened with the library thing But let me get this draft started and then I'll be able to break away Well, I go back to the computer within two minutes. There's a
Doorbell ring. Oh, no, and it's the guy and I've seen the guy in the neighborhood He lives there. He's he's walking around everything and he says hey, I am so sorry. I was trying I you know I had a book I was closing the Your little library thing and it just just he caved in and And so I said oh I said I saw that I said don't worry I said I know it might have been a little shaky or whatever and I'll I'll figure all this out He was super apologic super nice guy. So then he leaves I go back to the computer and then I'm like making a pic And then I go out there to see the remains of this you know the little you know library house No, dang it so Get out there and what has happened is the there were so many books in the thing. Oh, it was so heavy So I pick up all the
debris it was very sad And I carry that in while I'm making pics. I'm like my thing is the done And it was oh geez. I got to make a pic and then I was like you know running back So I bring it all in it's sitting in the in the living room We're going it will be rebuilt. We're going to you know give it the support that it needs So the whole thing just fell apart Well the the top part the bass is rock solid. Yeah, so what we are they dented You were in charge of building the house right yes, but the house is the house Was it was just it was just too heavy So and I think you just it just tumbled but anyway the bass is rock solid so we need we need more support You know like two by fours and then the support the sides of the house. Oh no the the flat part to hold that down because that was
That was a bit wobbly. That was the part where when it was dark She's under there with the nails and the nails that they give you are There are little tiny nails. It was like I don't know how that's going to work anyway Anyway, everything will be fine But now in front of the house is just a base with a thing sticking up and some little flowers on the bottom Everything will be fine. Maybe we need to limit you need to say like you know 20 book limit or something. Yeah, so that were they books that Christie had put in or that people know it's it that that little library High activity man. Yeah, there was books coming and going in fact there was two of the same book You know, it's there and they're all inside now But it was heavy. I mean I had to I brought in the other pieces and then I had to really Carry that whole base or the whole you know the little house part a lot of books Yeah, but I don't know if it was made for for that much weight. Yeah, maybe not
Anyway, everything will be fine. So that was the that was a minor tragedy of the of the weekend Other than that and then that everything's fine. I have one little minor tragedy that happened as well, but it's not It my Alex was playing with my erotag on my keychain. Oh, yeah And somehow it was in the car He flipped it off of the thing and it fell on the side, but there's Panaling like there's the carpet and it slipped in under that so it's now in the body of my car somewhere It's just in there and I don't know so now anytime I Take I go anywhere away. It says your keys have been left behind. Well, no, they're in it's in the thing So I I don't know how I'm gonna get it. You almost have to disassemble the floor It boy, that is weird. Yeah, I need like a strong magnet and it made me think of the acme stuff from the Coyote versus acme because a lot of magnets and a lot of things that Wiley coyote tries
There it the movie has heart too. You kind of like all It's he doesn't I don't think even knows why he wants the roadrunner so badly like it when it's if it is obsessed with it That's this it the way they did the cartoons and the people together Things have come a long way since What was the one that they did? Remember years ago what Roger rabbit. Oh who frame Roger This one it's seamless. You just believe that these cartoons Because it's half cartoon world popular that judge has to pick which gavel he wants to use the regular one or the cartoon one And then and then he picks a cartoon when it goes It was funny. I like that Sorry about your little library. Yeah, the library came crashing down Yeah, and it couldn't have been I mean it's never a good time for your library to crash But that was like oh geez. What am I gonna do not doing draft? Yeah, but everything turned out fine. Yes All right, we have a we have a full day on the shoot today

I call it a very good start to the program. Yes, go time everybody welcome to Tuesday the eighth day of September This is the david mollie show from the new america studio You We now return to the david mollie show Hey, welcome back everybody david mollie show continues from the new america studio And we're going to talk about the fair coming up here in just a little bit of the fair kicks off Uh, and it's a very monumental year for the fair but it kicks off on friday so very exciting And the weather's going to be perfect. I think oh yeah. Yeah, it actually is. I like I enjoyed the fair It's where I got the world famous fish Oh, yeah, the fish that lasted a long time and then uh met it's untimely demise at uh one time Any one day. I'll find out what really happened to chase
Hey, he had a long rich life was good. Yeah, you're gonna go good run. Oh, let's talk about beer you want to talk about beer? Sure Yeah, we have the a new survey on beer What is the best tasting beer and what states like the beer the most okay? Okay, so according to the new report the most popular beer in america is Michelob ultra what Question marks fill the air. I don't mind Michelob ultra. I think it's a tasty beverage Especially if you're doing a low-carb situation. Mm-hmm. It is in no way the best beer that we have to offer though I can't really comment because I'm not a not a beer person in fact some a lot of these beers I haven't had in Over 10 years, so I don't know one of the other ones. I think I had one the other night Bud light is second. That's what I have Yeah, Bud light Uh-huh very popular then Budweiser
Then Guinness Coors light Bush light Miller light Blue Moon and Corona boy blue moon is the only kind of Well, it's um it's not an IPA. It's a I call it a wheat beer Can't remember if they call it but that's the only one that's sort of not a mass Little more The Stella though isn't that that's yeah Stella Stella and the Budweiser and Stella all those now they make great Zero alcohol beers that tastes just like the regular beers It's great Budweiser. I tasted one of those. He's just like Budweiser. What are they called bud zero or what? Yeah, okay All right, uh the least popular beer I don't know milwakies best ice Ha Followed by something called Sierra Nevada. Uh-huh
Harp Yeah, you've heard of these I've heard Sierra Nevada Sierra Nevada was really popular for a while at least in my circles It was what people dream keystone all Molson LaBat blue Hams And then keystone light What's the one that uh H drinks that I well I know that natty oh perhaps blue rib Yes, perhaps blue ribbon and I will say that we had one of those when we were camping and it was delicious It was very and and the good thing is you can drink a whole giant one of them and you don't get drunk Where is the alcohol? Oh, yeah Which you? I haven't had a beer in a long time Not even at the ballpark? No I'm trying to think I think there was one time when When I did I enjoyed my bud light the other night but I only drank half of it because
I'm not interested in the bottom half Right as with the top half the half of my hot dogs multiple hot dogs that I won $10 In the stuff your or the oh yeah, yeah Now you want to know the states that love the beer the most yes, what do you think they are the states Michigan They're not on the top 10 West Concent is your number one beer really yep number one beer state followed by Wyoming Kansas Nebraska and Iowa what does that say it's like oh Right in the middle of the country yeah, we're doing our farming man. We're gonna have beer Chagwon Mac not to stereotype Now the states that care the least about beer California California is in the top 10 why No, Hawaii is in the top 10 yes You're two for two. That's Utah Utah number two. Mm-hmm. You got three out of the 10 you're three for three
New York Alaska Utah Georgia Washington We don't care about beer here. Uh, that seems like not right not right Then you got Mississippi California Virginia Maryland Oregon boy And then they also give us the States favorite beer and again, this is not the like most sold beer in the state. It's the state or it's the beer That there's the most Difference between the other states. Okay, so for our state Washington. It's Rainier Rainier Obviously, that's you know, it's kind of a you know regional thing. Yeah for Oregon. It's rolling rock California. It's corona Idaho, mm-hmm. They love their Keystone. Yeah And we just learned something about Keystone earlier. That's the least popular Mm-hmm North Dakota's a cruise light state. Okay
Keystone light South Dakota Anyway, I I told you I saw a big it was in Idaho's I'm away home from Silverwood when we went to do our little a thing for the scholarships and They they they had a huge barrel full of ice and they had Mickey's big mouth on ice because Mickey's big mouth is a barrel And that and it has the big that you know It's a screw off top which is weird for a beer then screw off top But anyway, and I thought you can display this however you want and you can you can put it on ice It's still gonna taste horrible like a skunk took a crap in it. That's what it tastes like Gross skunky What's the other the rolling rock was one the and then hina kin is in a green bottle There's something about and I know the green bottles are supposed to make it like oh they keep it, you know
less skunky, but oh I Can do whatever you want to those Mickey big mouth. They're not gonna taste good. Still not gonna work for you now Gonna work for me not anymore We have this is very exciting news from the TSA. Yeah So there used to be a time and some of our younger listeners probably don't even know this that There used to be a time when you could have your friends go right to the gate with you before you got on the plane Yeah, yeah, well, they're bringing that back and I was thinking it was six or eight airports. It's actually 13 airports. Oh yeah um The TSA has launched something called gate side By TSA pre-check pilot program get it get it Did you get it pilot no I get it you get it because of pilot Airplane. Yeah, yeah, good one. Really good. Anyway, it's allowing approved non-ticketed visitors to pass through security at 13 different airports. Okay The participating airports are
Columbus, Ohio Dallas, Fort Worth Detroit Indianapolis Vegas Los Angeles San Diego Salt Lake and And That is all of them Those are some pretty bigger port. Yeah Exactly So the non-ticketed visitors who are approved for the program still have to go through screening which make sense And then they have to apply through TSA and receive a gate side pass One to three days before arriving at the airport all right, so there's some pre-work involved here TSA says the program is designed to make airport visits easier for families Especially those flying with children or elderly passengers. You can take them right to the gate Sure They say it's also an exclusive benefit of our most trusted travelers Makes it easy to return to the gate for welcomes and send-offs meet friends during a layover What we were talking about and enjoy dining and shopping along the way
well Good for them and I would say in places like Vegas It's then come on in and camp while you're here. Why wouldn't you And the restaurants and then there is like Seattle. There's lots of shopping A lot of the airports may have great beautiful areas to shop That reminds me that one of the things I watched over the weekend well two things one was the decoy plane Have you seen that it's called an insta It's called an insta Dock Insta doc or something where it's like a documentary that is Made quickly so this is about the events the summer wind Donald Trump actually changed Plains in a cargo. Oh, you went in the food cargo thing. Yes, and they it was really interesting because they had him on and he ended up flying in a third jet Back from um, I can't remember where he was he was somewhere. Oh, he's in turkey Anyway, there was that but then also there was the 9-11 thing that they had on and it was basically the 9-11 generation
And it they were talking about how everything changed that day and so there's generations of people 50% of the population is either Was not born yet or was a little little teeny kid when 9-11 happened. That's 25 years. Yeah, so the Friday It'll be 25th anniversary. Yeah, the reality of it and that they don't know what it was like Airports before that happened and in Airports airplane travel it already kind of declined a little bit anyway But this just gave everybody permission to not have real silverware and to not To do all of these things that who knows if it's protected us or not I don't know But it's time to kind of reel it back in but I was trying to remember like when we were kids What was security like was it just a metal detector that you walked through? Yeah, I do well. I've told the story about when we were flying to New York our basketball team And we went through security we got shut down because we had an idiot on our basketball team
We had the volcanic ash right and you could not there were clear signs to say you cannot Talk joke about Explosives or drugs or all all that was clearly yeah, even this is 1979 1979 Right, right Even then that was a thing but you could You know, you could have people walk you all the way You're touching them as you're going off Giving the ticket to get on the plane. It used to be people could do all but but you all had to go through security I remember taking things out of pockets or putting your purse like on a conveyor mm-hmm But I don't remember as many carry on that was the other thing too I don't remember having to carry on bag because Luggage was all free to check so it was just easier if you just checked everything I don't think people were bringing carry on bags now we do it because we don't want to pay $35 you know to And because I think it lost a lot but I just remember like a purse Change guys with wallets maybe a belt would have to come on. I just was minimal right? Yeah
I do remember there were some disrobing member because they make a A bit out of it in One of the airplane movies where the guys taken off different things Then he takes off his leg. Oh, that's right. That's right. That's something they did pass it through. Oh Well, I'd say bring back the visitors. Yeah, nice And I had there was lots of times when I would fly it through somewhere and Yeah, have a friend that would come out and oh, hey, I'll meet you for lunch and whatever You remember that for that well our famous story So in 1983 We my mom and Jack and I were going to Europe and we went through went through New York and my Annie my uncle Craig came to the airport To have dinner with us and I wanted to hold my own passport And my mom said I really think I should hold your passport. I said no, I can do it. I'm held are you at the show? Oh boy I want my own passport. Well, what did I do? I left it at the restaurant so they walked us all the way up to the gate It's time to get on the plane and I don't have my passport and so my uncle Craig has to run like OJ through the airport jumping over leaping over he runs back to the restaurant
come And then we get on the plane and I'm crying My mom's like I don't want to say it told you so but I told you but yeah, she clearly does But yeah, that was one of those where they drove out Yeah, because otherwise, you know, when were we gonna see me again? I know yeah I just the thing that was the last straw for me on the frustration was The whole shoe thing. Yeah, I hated the shoe thing and it was all that one guy the guy memory tried to start a shoe on fire and all that Yeah, I don't like that. I don't Anyway, hopefully things are shifting back and then and I know they have different things where well the TSA thing is is the first of You know the different thresholds where you pay the 85 bucks and then you don't have to do some of the things There's different levels that are clearly coming now that okay Once you've been all the way Prescreened and checked you can do whatever you bring back bring ammunition back on
Well, I didn't you have firecrackers. We had a brick of firecrackers 100% true that was on the airplane. Yeah Do you know the difference between a HELOC and an HEI um Spelling well, they are spelled differently, but no while both are ways to access your home's equity They're very different you see a HELOC comes with monthly payments Boo while a splotero HCI doesn't it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value You get cash up front and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle refinance or sell Hi, are you gonna cheer through this whole explanation? Yes, excellent Okay, a HELOC has strict income and credit requirements Spoo While an HEI from splotero is open to people with homes that are worth $200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score and there's no income requirement Haza Did you say haza? I'm trying to bring it back. Well good luck to you visit spl itero.com today and access your home's equity

Oh, my mic open. Yeah, I'm still eating mine. I didn't quite finish mine you guys are You're poor man. Mm-hmm. That's what we do if we need to scarf something down quick Maybe a maize is really good those were from back harvest house. So good uh, yeah, well, Molly reheated him Yeah, that's a pro move to reheat him 15 seconds in the microwave all in that there were four of them and that why is that this doesn't look good for TV purposes? That's not a good look for us Um, yeah, sometimes there's good product placement sometimes it's just in a wrinkle of bag then But anyway, I just kept it in the bag. I haven't quite seen Sam Adams great to be yeah, yeah, we have missed you You've had a lot of adventures lately. Well, Aralais is adventure taking my son off to college for his junior year and Phoenix for college and Did that junior junior? Yeah, he's got this year and next and that's it is collize daughter one year behind correct Okay, so she's starting her second year today They go back to school today. That's the first day of school like moving week was last week and it starts today
Yeah, what kind of classes does he take? He has one online class everything else is like the super specific to his major now. So it's business and Marketing and and then he he wants to minor in sports. So nice. It's it's really cool He's getting it do the good stuff. And what is the little thing? How do you do the thing? Oh the low So it's like a quiet coyote kind of, you know like this um If he had started golfing earlier, which he'd he could have gone on a golf scholarship You know that there's a like little known secret or well, I don't know well known For girls. Yeah, you can go on a golf scholarship and you can shoot in the 100s And you still because there's so few female golfers you can still but is that a legend is that no that is true It is true. Thank you. May have gotten a little bit over the years, but I know as like five six years ago Okay, because I mean I I was talking to a friend she works here kind of part-time. She used to be full-time
um But she had a daughter has a daughter who was was in high school at the time in super competitive You know going to state and all this stuff But really like getting a true scholarship to a program that she wanted to go that was like okay It's not like everybody's coming out of the woodwork to get you They're not full-ride scholarships, but they're scholarships I mean least the ones that I had heard about and they and they'll say oh I'm I played in college like oh Well, what kind of score do you? Oh, yeah, I break 100 once in a while like And you got to go on a scholarship Wow They would have let me in I'm sure they also had to have good grades and stuff, but anyway Yeah, so well, that's exciting that he's back. Yeah, yeah great and and it's kind of interesting because like I've been in Dad mode for you know first 20 years of his life and and You know, I would say sometimes I'm like buddy. I'm I'm sorry. I'm I'm here to be your dad first I'm not here to be your friend. I'm here to be your dad. So there'd be times where you know
Have to lay down the lawn Teach him life lessons and all that and less about you know if you if you did something funny or inappropriate I would laugh privately Right But not enable and encourage the behavior and now this time it's it's like Yeah, the restrictor played is off and and we're I feel like friends first and Father son second you did all your hard work That's what happens when you put in the hard work then you lay the groundwork and then you've created a nice human being So then the life lessons that's that's that's how I feel yeah, honestly I don't want to jinx the no-hitter, but I feel really good. Yeah, my mom and I are like that. I think after about 20 And once I started making better decisions we became really good friends and then it was always just that But they're you know shaky times when you're 17 18 and 21 Now it's just bet bud. We're good. We went and played two rounds of golf down there. We did he beat you yet He did he beat me it happened. Oh
Yeah, this is very exciting I mean we knew what's gonna happen, but of course it happens on basically the last day of summer like last day before Now I'm we're not gonna play golf again until you know who knows The difference between a HELOC and an HEI is more than spelling a HELOC means monthly payments a splotero HEI doesn't a HELOC has strict requirements a splotero HEI only requires a 500 minimum credit score with no income requirement visit spl ITRO.com today and access your home's equity homeowners if you want to sell your house fast for all cash Stop what you are doing and listen to this because Osborne homes wants to buy your house right now I am Mike from Osborne homes and I want to buy your house nobody buys more homes in California than Osborne Whether it's a total fixer upper or imperfect condition Osborne homes is the easiest way to sell your house fast for all cash Best of all when you sell your house to Osborne homes there are zero fees and zero commissions plus no banks No realtors no repairs and no waiting to close we buy your house as is for all cash Call us right now to get your free no obligation all cash offered

I actually played well on the back nine, but he could catch it He had rated me on the front. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Was it a course that either one of you had played before? No Brand new is it is a resort course and I love this about Phoenix. It's it's a little known gem But these golf course they have so many golf and people like from Washington and Idaho Can wherever
You know you want to go down there October november tocember jenny worried February because it's like you can't golf here Right, but there it's primo it's 75 degrees well on the flip side You go and play an early september late august and of course it's cost a hundred dollars for around 45 bucks. Yeah with a car it's 89 billion degrees Or 106 not that i was looking out Oh It was a cooker, but the ball ball travels a little farther. It does yeah All rolls how long was the drive and where'd you stop? We stopped off in salt lake That's that's almost the halfway point you lose an hour because of the time change Oh, right and uh, so we stayed we've got a family there on my wife's side So we were to stay there and like south salt lake Um and and it got in like 10 o'clock that night stayed one you know quick and then got on the road about eight 30 the next morning and got into phoenix that that evening we gained an hour back this time of year So Arizona doesn't change they're all with the always the same yeah, so it was it was a you know
He did most of the driving which was nice. Oh my gosh You did raise him right. I did. I loved it. Yeah, it was great And then even the moving was easy. Yeah, yeah in a dorm or is he in a house? It is on campus, but but apartment style living, but it's definitely a dorm, you know I have a question about on campus. So at Gonzaga, you know the big main Hemings worth like their their main where they're cafeteria and all that like that made building right across the street So you get in there and there's the parking thing then there's that then there's the field in front There's a house just a house. I mean, that's a neighborhood, right? But is that just a person living that house or is that a What it looks like a regular house it looks like it's decorated like a regular house It's got Gonzaga flags and stuff obviously their fans, but there's a little neighborhood in there sometimes the school will own some houses around Sometimes I don't know You know it's interesting you ask that at Grand Canyon University of Phoenix
There's the you know, there's the football or football the baseball field the you know all the dorms the all of the the campus and then smack dab right in the middle of the camp not middle of the campus But part of the campus is just a random house See that's what I'm saying about this Gonzaga house But wasn't the cells refused to sell yeah, to this day He will he will not sell he's got signs up and like no won't sell refused to sell and He's got one dude In his house right in the middle of the college campus is college kids 1819 20 year olds are all walking by See it seems like I see that the holding out thing, but then Then all of a sudden you're living in the middle of a college. Yeah You really have to like you're in it at that point At one point are you holding out for like a better price or is it a principle? Oh that ship sailed I think Yeah Well, but here like I think GCU is looking at like if we if we get this person to sell them We can do all of this around this
There's only so much you can do what you can't say in which it in like Was up was that the movie up oh? Right with the house sales house and but remember it's like this this this little home And then there's skyscrapers right up against oh, yes Yeah, it's not quite like that situation. We're waiting they're waiting Now I got to ask you about the because we had a discussion about the Michigan western Michigan game and how these teams these big schools will pay a smaller school to come in for their first game of the year and basically Be a sacrificial lamb they are too. So and you went to the Arizona state Morgan Morgan state. Yeah, not a workout for Morgan state. Well, they got money. Yeah I think they got about 650 grand or something like that. Okay, that's huge. That's vital They really budget that in because that that's going to pay for travel for scholarships for all the things You need to do to keep the lights on the program right and so yeah, it was I think it was 49 to 7 at half time
Okay, and then and then I've never had this I've never heard of this either So so we left at a certain point backups are in and me and my son are like let's let's let's go We got the experience. This is Arizona state and Morgan state correct. It sees no per for ASU It's 63 to 7 at this point Do you know the difference between a HELOC and an HEI um Spelling well, they are spelled differently, but no while both are ways to access your home's equity They're very different you see a HELOC comes with monthly payments Boo while a splotero HEI doesn't it's essentially a smarter way to access your home's value You get cash up front and then you can repurchase your option when you cash settle refinance or sell Hurray are you gonna cheer through this whole explanation? Yes, excellent Okay, a HELOC has strict income and credit requirements boo Yes, while an HEI from splotero is open to people with homes that are worth
$200,000 and have a 500 minimum credit score and there's no income requirement Haza Did you say haza? I'm trying to bring it back. Well good luck to you visit spl itero.com today and access your home's equity No monthly payments just cash in hand splotero Homeowners if you want to sell your house fast for all cash stop what you are doing and listen to this because Osborne Homes wants to buy your house right now. Any house any condition all cash right now just call 8 000 957 three one five one cash for your house now eight zero zero nine five seven three one five one You know what quality feels like you can see it in the way a fabric moves Recognize it in a flawless fit and appreciate it in the details that make our styles unique That kind of quality doesn't happen by accident It happens with imagination creativity and intention At Coldwater Creek it's the design standard we've honored for over 40 years Our rich mountain heritage has shaped how we think about clothing from the very beginning With a commitment to quality that never quits Exceptional fabrics considered design silhouettes we've made our own The signature touches that set each piece apart and styles that are distinctively cold water creek For a wardrobe you can count on season after season Visit coldwater creek.com
Shop new arrivals and save 15% on purchases 75 dollars or more with code iHeart I believe and we're like we're good and so we we leave the stadium we do the the walk up we we uh We're waiting to get on the little light rail to get back home And as a guy there's there's a bunch of other ASU fans at this point came over and the guy's got his phone And I look down he's why I'm going There's 650 seven left in the fourth quarter. I'm like what happened how much did how long was that walk to The train station and then somebody said oh yeah, they shaved five minutes off the clock for for mercy rule I'm going in college football and I know it like I covered sports collegiate sports High school athletics. Yeah, I know it's like high school. There is a mercy rule for for football They'll turn on a running clock for baseball, you know you ten run them they'll stop I'm like I raised my umbrella what's going on here?
And I found out after the fact that the coach for Morgan state had basically gone to the referee and said Can you shave off five minutes off the clock and then you need permission from the other coach who I don't think Dillingham Kenny Dillingham the ASU head coach. I don't even know if he was aware of this We said yes, sure take five minutes off the clock and there's a rule that I've never seen happen Period in my life where both coaches agree and I'm sure the officials have to agree too They take five minutes off the clock and they did yeah, they cut five minutes out of that when they said they shortened the game I thought well, what does that mean? I thought they just you know run the ball and let the clock run no they Said we're taking five minutes off of the game. I've never heard that. I've never seen it in my life. Yeah Don't look at me. I just started fantasy football for the first time Friday night. I'm a draft Oh the big draft If I can take five minutes off a fantasy football draft I will take that and then some we did our draft in record time. It's only an hour. Whoa. Yeah, that's cool
April my co-captain and I were the fastest. I think we're pretty pretty efficient Just because we didn't know what you're doing. So did you just use the tier system? Do you have like your S tier your A tier your B tier I don't know what that means. What about you Dave? Are you a tier person? I think I had a pretty good draft. I You know, I know who my starters will be in my head at least Okay, I'll put it and you've never done fantasy. Oh, I used to be hardcore. I was I would eat, sleep and breathe this stuff Yeah, no more. Oh, no, I quit cold turkey. You had to quit. I was a commissioner of the league And awful. It's not fun being because you get you get people button heads and all the stuff like I was supposed to have the way for this person's making this move This person's in kuhuts with this person, you know like But we're friends here like you guys are arguing about this like they they would get into epic We're not gonna have that kind of a league. It's gonna be very very friendly. Good. That's very friendly Um, hey, Michelle says that isn't that the being crossbe house on the guns like a campus
Maybe perhaps it looked like somebody was living there and it looked like they were renovating in the back No, they you could see through and they looked like they were I just noticed it because I was there for something the other day And I just thought this is a regular house right in the middle of the Love it. Well, I love the randomness don't know if I would want that I just like doing a little He likes the love that the analog He learned that when Grand Canyon played here in Phoenix or or or on the road from Phoenix and spoke in now at that time Did you he was considering okay? It was considering. Yeah, it was considering he was a I think a senior or a junior in high school Okay, he was very much considering Grand Canyon and then between that and his visit down there that and they still do the thing You know they have the discovery trip Where you can go there they will pay for the airfare. They'll put you up on campus lodging I think they even give you a per diem for food and you can check out Grand Canyon well free of charge can I do that?
I'm wondering about that. I don't know. I'm I really want to go back to school Here's my transcripts, and I'm just really gonna check it out. I'm gonna guess you have to be an active high school student I'm gonna get that big son. Yeah, what if I have the education level of an active high school student? I've heard that about myself. So But that that I remember that basketball game that we were because we were in the same we were in the same little room there And I just thought these people are so much fun. And I said the what that was a cool school And they were all doing the little thing and that was enough to win him over to go there. I mean it kind of was the the tipping point for Yeah, yeah, there were not this year, but uh maybe last year when we did the The thing for silver would we help with their scholarships? They give like 12 kids a thousand dollars Remember how many grand there were a lot of grand Canyon so many grand Canyon kids. Yeah, that's a growing school Two it is yeah, they've got a big online program to a lot of people go to gc But don't actually go there they take a lot of the classes online works. Glucyfully online. It's a massive online presence
But I like the campus too. It's it's it's not the people if you know Phoenix, you'll know this is uh in Glendale It's not the best neighborhood I wouldn't I wouldn't compare to like USC's campus where you're you're kind of in an oasis But but the campus itself there's security, you know, there's checkpoints and all that stuff to get in But I love their campus. I love the vibe there UCLA has a great campus. That's in the heart of Westwood like that's a fun I had some friends who managed an apartment building kind of like you're managing an apartment building Tell me you're managing the apartment building story. You didn't tell them managing the apartment building story earlier Yeah, I told it on the air No, you told me off there. Oh Yeah, oh, so little did we we went to green bluff Visit our friends back service house. They had the big thing. There's a huge hit massive Stuffed-on-of-la it was fantastic. This is the first year they did it. Yes And they're they're already full steam ahead for next year. It's gonna be wonderful rate Well, what I didn't know so we're we're talking to Kim and Todd at the end and then he says hey, I gotta ask you
Did you use to manage apartments back in the early 80s and I said yeah actually I did it was you know a little spot on the south I says My dad owned that building you you actually worked for my dad way back when Yeah, and it was then it all kind of came back to me his name was Gordon and he owned the he owned the building and I was basically a manager slash Everything person I had to paint. I had to change the elements and the hot water tanks at the you know Have the people come in clean the rugs when new people would come in and out and everything did you get free rent for that? I got I had discounted rent. I think I paid a hundred bucks For rent. Oh, yeah, it was a good deal. It's a great deal for me. Yeah, yeah But I also learned a lot about You know managing apartments. There was a lot of Hmm a lot of stuff that went on Uh, that you know, but you I learned the box and you built relationships apparently Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, it was good all those years later. Mm-hmm small world. Mm-hmm
Yeah, they uh the Melinda who was the girl the from here who was up there yesterday. Oh Melinda. Yeah Yeah, yeah, I got a k HQ coverage tomorrow. We have a pig coming in. I was telling Collein Kache you guys want to talk to pancake the pig. Oh, what time to real pig nine o'clock? Okay, be after hours But I didn't know but it's part of the sensory day at the fair on Tuesday. Yeah, yeah We don't have to we do a teacher of the month And I can't tell you what school because it's always a surprise Yeah, you you know with this about the teacher the month So what will always do wonder in the school year every month that you get you know It's doing will write a nomination letter It's always heartfelt and the most surprising teacher during a uh an assembly. Yes, but they they keep us in like cloak and dagger Because they don't want us to like you got to park off on the side because if they if we walk in they you know The kids will start to go what's going on? Yeah, so they they'll get we've been in in a closet before essentially We've been in uh where those have you seen those The wrestling room, you know where they have the mats. Yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, we'll be in there next all the stinky
You know singlets and stuff and well we got to hide and be there so I can't even tell you where and so this So what they tell the students is oh, it's a regular assembly. Yeah back to school assembly Everybody's gonna meet here and then you guys Come out with a big surprise. We introduce ourselves. We get the crowd all excited It's it's one my career and it always a teacher could it be any Staff member is it an educator in general? Or he said he I can't remember ever not having a teacher for him, but I don't know and the kids nominate them The kids nominate. No, uh So he's sweet because that's hard especially you're like a eight-year-old or a 10-year-old or 12 however old Writing a letter taking the time to do that open yourself up because it's usually about a personal thing like that, you know This year has been really difficult for me and and this teacher Would always put a smile on my face with a dad pun and and you know make me feel good about my day And if it wasn't for this person, you know, I would I would hate middle school or whatever And those kids are so courageous writing those letters. So now for this first one is this from
A last-years letter or did somebody write a letter super fast like school or how does Yeah, I don't want to I guess I can reveal it I think there was basically something where we were supposed to do it to end last year. Okay, but I have to speak very vaguely but something happened where we couldn't do the Teacher of the month presentation then so now they've pushed it to this year But both the teacher and the student are still at the same school as sometimes we have had it where it is a carryover or something where It's like a nomination that had happened But it's and now that the student is in a new school even like they'll have gone from elementary to middle school or whatever Okay, and so many times it will be then that the kid will come in and get a you know day off or at least an hour off Like the dentist appointment you get a little no Do you know the difference between a HELOC and an HEI um Spelling well they are spelled differently, but no while both are ways to access your homes equity

Yeah, yeah, let's talk about that in terms of people like us. Okay fair enough Well and and truly so had a 401k and then When you get dismissed early then it turns into an ira Ah, yes, you can turn it into a yes, but now So and then and I because nobody else is contributing It's just me now so you turn it into an ira but you're talking about 401k's that people can start themselves
So that works well yeah, there there are a lot of different retirement options The most common one would be the employer provided 401k and the reason it's so powerful is sometimes it comes with a match And it has you know things like if you're making student loan payments You can sometimes get the match from your employer, which is really cool But yeah, so for folks who don't have access to an employer plan. There's lots of options They can open up an ira or individual retirement account. They come in a traditional or Roth flavor as I call them And really that just has to do with when you might want to pay the taxes on those you want to pay them Now or later and so for a lot of folks who paying them now means, you know, no less income taxes in retirement And the Roth you pay the taxes upfront and then when you get the money later It's free money. Absolutely. Yeah, and so can be especially powerful for young adults because they you know You're gonna be in a low tax bracket now, especially if you're just starting out and you might be making more money in retirement So so there I think one of the things there's always options for folks even if you're you doing like Uber or DoorDash Side hustle stuff. There's still options to begin to saving for that retirement. So okay
So that we just go do you go to an American say hi one talk about my 401k? Oh, it's a great question. Yeah, so so for folks again, so for folks who have a 401k One of their best resources is gonna be their plan provider whoever options so like at numerica We have a fidelity is our plan for writer and you can get access usually to a lot of resources for free And so because again your employer is paying for that plan and so and they want you to be successful And so that's gonna be your best option So talking with your HR team or whoever manages your plan because a lot of folks they you know They don't understand what is this thing? How does it work and how can I really take advantage of it? And you're almost always and in fact, I think always always you want to max out on the Number that you need to hit the match. Yes, that's because that's the free money. It's great Yes, in this life if anyone wants to offer you free money the answer is yes And the nice thing about a match is employer is saying hey based on what you contribute will match it dollar for dollar up to a certain amount Common it can be common maybe a 4% match So first you know 4% of your paycheck and and then the powerful thing is your employer might be doing
You know half of the heavy lifting for you Which is a pretty generous thing and so yeah if we can now some folks can't yet afford that So they have to slowly build up to it But plans have lots of flexibility like some have a annual increase option where you can automate it So where hey, I wanted to increase 1% per year up to a certain amount So you don't feel the pain of that paycheck as much as doing it all once And you can have them take it out just let's say you're on our on your own like we are You know, so it's up to us to create our own retirement plan But you can still make it so it automatically just gets taken out of your bank account every 30 days or whatever yeah absolutely I mean like so for myself, you know for a time I was not working a traditional job. I was a freelance writer doing financial writing And so yes, I set up my Roth IRA to just do automatic withdrawals and then contributing into the investments that you picked inside of it And so the you know, I always like to think about money is we're trying to kind of get it into a lazy river You know, I was just it silverwood so I'm thinking about this Of like hey, this this is moving us along and it's improving our financial situation
And the automatic contributions just like you said can be a real good way that we do that because it's just building in the background And it's moving you towards that long-term financial role so and then with the the market the way it's been it's just everything is Growing things have been yes, that is true. I know it's so interesting right because you know when folks are looking at the prices of things You know, the economy is really challenging Yes, when you look at the market itself it has been we've been in a very healthy market for for quite a while And so one of the ways that one of the benefits of 401ks it lets you participate in that life is really expensive But right now the market has done well and we want folks to participate in that in that at the same time because otherwise The price of gas the price of housing the price of health care price of groceries Um, that's going to be incredibly challenging if we're not participating in that growth that's happening at the same time So years ago I did the 509 Mm-hmm for my grandson. Oh the 529. Oh, yeah, 509s are Hurry up. That's that's amazing. I do $50 a month. That's all I've ever done
That's great though. It is built up. He's 13 now But the time he's ready for school The what I love about that too is if he doesn't want to use it for education one of the other kids can use it It's transferable and you can use it for all parts of education. Yeah, housing for really flexible Oh, yeah, you've talked about remember we talked about that before and Cool thing as well is if they're if a grand kiddo or a kiddo or whoever like so yeah I have one for my six-year-old daughter. Yeah, if there is the option to begin to roll that over into a Roth IRA for them Slowly over time. So it's up to 35 it's up to 35,000 dollars Lifetime right and then you have to it's based on the max contributions into a Roth IRA, which I think is about 7500 bucks a year It's like you know a 22 year old who graduates and let's say there's still 35,000 in that 529 By 26 they could probably have all of that rolled over if they're working So that's seed so the nice thing about that 529 is it can be a kiddos first retirement account Yeah, so that's kind of how I'm viewing it for my daughter if she doesn't need it for college which The difference between a HELOC and an HEI is more than spelling a HELOC means monthly payments a splotero
HEI doesn't a HELOC has strict requirements a splotero HEI only requires a 500 minimum credit score with no income requirement Visit splt ITRO.com today and access your home's equity homeowners If you want to sell your house fast for all cash stop what you are doing and listen to this because Osborne homes wants to buy your house right now I am Mike from Osborne homes and I want to buy your house nobody buys more homes in California than Osborne Whether it's a total fixer upper or in perfect condition Osborne homes is the easiest way to sell your house fast for all cash Best of all when you sell your house to Osborne homes there are zero fees and zero commissions plus no banks no realtors No repairs and no waiting to close we buy our house as is for all cash Call us right now to get your free no obligation all cash offer We are here and ready to buy your house 24 hours a day seven days a week eight zero zero nine five seven three one five one Call 8 000 nine five seven three one five one right now don't wait Sell your house to Osborne homes and put the cash in your pocket right away any house any condition all cash right now

We'll see yeah, it can be a good option. So there's a lot of flexibility with those. Yeah, yeah, I like that part about it doesn't have to be a traditional Just you know, okay, you're going to a university and you're definitely doing if it's a trade school and you have it Yeah, you need school whatever so it's it's and there you know There's all sorts of different ways to kind of slice and dice that creating financial security for yourself in the future I mean one of the thing again, this isn't really the 401k's but health savings accounts or hsa I did that and i'm sorry I heard that so if you're on a high deductible health plan that has an hsa That is one of the only true tax free accounts you can get money you contribute you don't pay taxes on You can invest excess proceeds if you want to and then if it's used for health care for you or anyone in your Family, um, you don't pay taxes on the withdrawals. It's all tax free So if you're like I want to avoid all the taxes on the hsa can be a good option So I did that and then I had a lot of dental stuff come up this year and there was perfect It was like yep just use that yeah, and so and I think you know one of the things that I always tell folks because
You know, we've thrown out a lot of different terms right and it can feel really daunting like okay 401k hsa 529 Um, there are often resources especially at your credit union or at your employer that can just help you understand how to maximize those things And the number one thing I always say to folks is small financial moves made now that are given time to work Can make a big impact you talked about it with the 529 plan for your drink 50 bucks a month Trans can translate into much more depending on the circumstances And so you know people always say oh when should I kind of start this retirement journey? It's like well, of course the best time was however many years ago But the next best time is today, right? And so whatever we can do today even you know logging into your account if you haven't looked at it in a little while Maybe increasing the contribution if you're already contributing or if you're not They just take it to 1% and so we know life is really expensive, but if we can make some small moves it can make a big time impact I like that today's the next best day. Absolutely. I mean, it's true for so many elements of life, right? Every hey, I meant to go to the gym yesterday. Okay, you didn't go to gym yesterday today is the best day
And so I think it can feel like It's like one of one of the things I'm doing this year I'm teaching a personal finance class at the community school for a semester And we're giving and we're giving students some We're taking a small investment portfolio splitting the class into two groups and each of them is going to manage a thousand dollars And they're going to invest it over the course of a semester. Okay, I'll see how they do I did this with students In this spring and they did well. They generated about a 8% return and and so I think you know so many people They haven't gotten to experience that investing piece and so what I'm always telling those students is hey This is going to feel intimidating But we want to get over that fear so that we get into it because there are there can be significant potential benefits to it And so yeah, and so I'm hoping for the young folks They'll be like I know exactly what a 401k is because I talked to that gentleman It goes right back to the 401k because usually you can't As a just a regular person you can't buy into the stock market But you can with a 401k you can manage different Parts and I want to more aggressive one or I'm a young person
I got lots of time ahead of me. Absolutely. I can you know Yeah, it's so much your hot tip. What's the hot? What's happening? Oh, well, you know, don't give a specific investment advice But what I would say is I think the number one thing I would offer to folks is and I said this to students in the class This class last Friday. Yeah, I said many people are are scared of losing money Right, I genuinely understand that the reality is in our lifespan. We're all going to lose some money And you're going to see that balance go up and down. It's going to happen So if we can embrace that and get over that fear we can get into that 401k and we can use it to our advantage and time is always your friend Time is always your friend and you know what I'll I'll again, I keep using this example of students But I'll ask that you know one of the things I'll also ask them is hey, what is a resource that you have a lot more of than I do Now it was hilarious in my last class one student said hair Wow, Lori is flowing locks. I was just like this kid is amazing But and then another one said I think time yeah, yes
And so when you have time time is the most powerful financial resource that anybody has and I don't I don't even think money comes close And so yeah, so a small financial moves that are given some time can make a big difference. Oh, I could And then you have all this information online. Where where do people go if they want to yeah, there's lots of good resources Yeah, if you're looking for new America specific resources go to new america cu.com You're going to go to the financial wellness section of our website, which is right up there on the top page We have options for you know, hey connecting with new america financial services Which is the investing portion of our credit e lots of articles on what is a 401k? What is a Roth IRA or a traditional IRA and how do they work? And I think just again what I would offer to folks is if you feel like you don't have someone you can connect with The place that you're keeping your money is one of those resources. Okay, connect with them and say hey I'm just looking for some advice of what I can do. Who can I connect with? Right So Well, this is all very good information. Yeah, it is. I always learned something when we talk to you I think that's very generous. I think you know normalizing money conversations is one of the things that I live for and so
Any time that I can do that I consider it a real honor and I didn't know that you were you were freelance Financial writer. I had yes. I wasn't a past life. So my what do you write about? Well, that's a great question So my journey into banking is very eclectic I when I went to college I studied theology and religion and ministry and I became a youth pastor for four years I went to grad school for for pastors, but one of the things I was just interested in how money worked because I knew I wasn't probably going to make very much Transparenly and so my wife and I started a financial blog for young adults It was called two copper coins at the time and it was really just us writing about our own finances so paying off our student loans Learning how to invest for retirement when we were in our 20s Buying rental properties, which is something we did and then when we moved to Spokane I had a gentleman that I met who was in the military and he was looking for financial wellness resources for Veterans and so I started doing some side Financial writing for him and so yeah, young to business called military crash pad which was which provided
rentals for Airmen who are going to be deployed like you know for maybe six months to a year by a particular military base And so he's like hey, we just want to help them level up their finances because they have they make quite a bit They're young and they tend to spend a lot of it and I was like no problem And so that was kind of and then my journey into banking kind of evolved from there I thought hey, I just I'd like to be able to talk to people about money in a A quality professional capacity and so thus I've landed where I am now So and then how long you've been at new America? I've been I started there in March of 22. So just over four years Okay, and it's been I mean one of one of the things I love at new mericas We kind of have that combination of We know we're a credit union so money is our business But the we want to normalize financial conversations and we want to use the money that we're able to generate is a credit You to make a real impact in the communities that we serve and you guys are doing that Me and oh man everywhere you turn America's doing something great. I work with me today. It makes me very proud to work So yeah, but so that's my journey and my journey into into banking I didn't like if you ask people at New America many of us did not intend to get in banking
It wasn't like our what we thought about in college, but um, but I think it creates a really cool flavor of folks that we have So I just I just like normalizing those financial conversations and so a lot of good people there. Yeah, I would agree So I feel lucky to be among them All right, John thanks for having me love being a love. I love it. Yeah, I was just gonna say I want you to Be here all the time. Oh, I'll do my best. Yeah, love it. That's better when you come in and then tomorrow Don't be a pig in your seat. So oh well. I'm not sure Okay, you're gonna find out. I don't know how big pancake oh, okay, that's okay That's I don't know that if you could lift pancake or pancake as a walker Yeah, all I know is that if there's going to be a pancake the pig in studio We've got to make sure that people see him okay, like I don't want to I don't want to be down here I say oh trust us. There's a big right down here. You gotta get him on camera. Yeah
Yeah, so I don't know if you figure it out. I think we have another we have another chair We put pancake cup on a chair. I don't think if he's too big or she. I don't know Can we hold him? I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I guess they tune for tomorrow because you find out right? Well, and also um we could maybe move the camera if he has to stay on the ground We could move the camera around and then I'll we could also do Facebook live and yeah two of the more like Straight on pig. Let's see if I know one of them or five for well You know the ellen Ella Langley choosing texas eleven heard it which I took some heat on over the weekend because Nadine also watched the video and she said you didn't think that girl was attractive Yeah, and I said boy, she's attractive, but I didn't I don't think that's the reason the song was such a massive No, no, no, that's not no she's very pretty I don't think any of those songs. I don't think that The videos don't impact the way they used to so I think all all the songs stand on their own
I don't know if anybody cares what the person looks like who's singing them Fair point Uh, according to spotify They say the song of the summer Was Ariana Grande's hate that I made you love me Oh Go ahead and sing part of that for us. No, oh my god that guy first of all I know my son did the load-in for the lights and stuff and he said it's the most lights
He's ever seen for a show which is something well his stage Went all the way to the back of the floor so he would run up and down this ramp So he wasn't just on stage He was if you were on the floor you were right next to him and he was running from like they had a big brown thing Which I think is so cool. So if you're at the back of the arena he's then right there And I don't know if people know that when they buy their tickets. I don't know how that works, but anyway The videos he he's like Nobody there was no rules about cell phones Did his back flip and he's like shirtless. He looks amazing. Oh, yeah, that's his thing I had a lot of friends that were at that show. Yeah, they have um and close-up video I think it's cool because he doesn't have the same rules that Where were we what was the one the other night where there was like you couldn't even bring your oh was your uh the comedy show Comedy show John Mulaney yeah, um, but a lot of the concerts won't let you do any of it and he was Fine but yeah, it was packed and it looked great. Okay, one more famous than the other All right celebrating his 66th birthday today from the world of music Who is David steel David steel who is it one of the bands is to find young cannibals? Okay, and the other one is a band called beat You cheated You would know the English beat so you didn't get it right because you have to have full you have to have both of them perfectly correct Well When Edwin said he just said beat and finding uncannable I um that is correct over the weekend I Yesterday we were playing Uno and I um cheated and I got laughing so hard about and instantly I got

No There is a story about that and I saw it there was a whole nerdy star trek thing It was like the beginnings of star trek and it talked about all of the movies It went through all the movies all the everything that all the different iterations and they mentioned that and I can't She it was because she was the head of the
The studio that was or she was part of it. I don't know john you'll have to elaborate but yeah She she was a big part of why star trek update and I forgot about that until john just brought it up I have not heard that story Now you have and you know they so ball yes, I do well I screwed her made You're welcome Jack Pannins favorite Joe right I have a friend you screwed her made I should listen to that My ex-boyfriend screwed That actually is very funny it is Uh 41 years ago today the late great Pete Rose broke tycobs career hit record At the time everybody thought he had tied it with 4,191 hits But then it turned out that the league accidentally double counted one of Cobb's games And so he actually broke the record on this on this day was right the very end of the baseball season well And they must put him in the hall of fame for that right Well, Molly it's complicated is it
Turns out that if you're the manager of a baseball team you're not supposed to bet On or against the team that you manage Oh, I'm not supposed to bet on baseball period and he for years Said that he never bet on baseball and then later he did have to say Indeed, I did And against my team I think as long as you're betting for your team. I think I don't think he ever bet against this Oh, I thought you said he bet against it. No, I think you know, well, you can't do either. No, I know Um But if you bet for your team, that's just putting your money where your mouth is yeah, you have a team You're the manager you're saying I think they're so good. I believe in my guys so much I'm going to put X amount of money there for them Right, yeah I peaked he liked to gamble He's gambler You know what happened 40 years ago today the Oprah Winfrey show broadcast nationally for the first time. Oh, hey, the very first Oprah
He said My first ghost I don't think she talked like that back then that evolved she might of no, I don't know. I became a thing Yeah, and then 39 years 39 years ago to this 1987 right during the you know all the presidential race and everything and like who's gonna be Representing the Republicans and the Democrats were on the Democrats side. They had a guy named Gary Hart Remember Gary Hart's or do yeah, it was on this day that Gary Hart admitted In an interview that he did Indeed committed adultery And that he had no plans to re-enter the presidential race Is he the one that invited the cameras to follow him? Yes, he said I'm not cheating follow me if you want to so they did any was I don't understand When you know you have you I'm not judging you do whatever you want to do But when you know you have that going on. Why would you run for office? They're going to find out and nowadays
Oh now are you forgetting you got skeletons in the closet. They come tumbling out Mm-hmm. Why the hell do you think we do a show like this? We don't want you to be looking behind the curtains. We don't want any skeletons. We don't want any glasses being open Um Back really quick to this whole Lucy about desi Lou was her production company. She took a chance with Jean Roddenberry and his idea for Star Trek Oh, it was desi Lou factions. Okay. That's pretty good very good. Good But back to this whole Gary Hart thing. Yeah So it was Donna Rice. Yeah, remember and then they were on the the boat. You remember the name of the boat Oh, was it the I'm cheating SS. I'm cheating. Uh, no, it was the it was the bus called monkey business. Oh, yeah Okay But it was on this day that he said yes, I did indeed have the affair. He'd made where great new anyway. Yeah And then he had no plans to reenter the presidential race. However, he did have plans to reenter Donna Rice
That happened later because then they got back together and then they said okay, well we can be together now since I'm not running for president anymore And are they still together? No, don't remember then she had a fight Darryl Konger or something and she didn't have a bill Donna Rice. Was she on the fighting with slubbers? I think it was somebody else. It was a It was another person that like that. It was the other who is the other person it got into the controversy She was sleeping with a guy with a politician. She was in there Oh, celebrity boxing. We just looked it up the other Jessica Han. No, who is it? I think it was Jessica Han who she's sleep was she was the one that was the with the uh with the preacher guy Oh, yeah Yeah, let me see hang on a second There was a lot of that stuff going on around this back in the late 80s. Yeah Yeah, um Todd Bridges and vanilla ice that's uh I want to see it Donnie Bonnady and Barry Williams, but um
Uh, I know that there was hang on a second Jones Paula Jones Paula Jones was uh But she sleeped. President. Oh, that was Clinton. Yeah And she had to fight uh tiny hearted Darryl Konger was fighting with the Ongo Corbett And then they got Screech and Horshack Which I thought was pretty funny They're all very funny and these were all people that willingly You know, they decided to do this. They took the money. So they got you know, there was yeah some benefit for them There's no one got in there like oh no, I don't want to fight anyone. They throw them in the ring and they fight right No, they all agreed to oh boxing match So good So Joey but a Fuku was supposed to fight John Wade Bob Who wait But Laura Laura he he instead fought a girl uh, Johnny China Laura
This gal you know where she was like a wrestler so so but a Fuku Not only are you big jackass to start with because you're famous because your wife got shot because your mistress was insane Now you're gonna fight a girl There's no good optics you if you lose your loser if you win your loser. There's just no way they that looks good And the words of the great Kali Chok Mm-hmm Even if you win your fantasy football league You're still a loser That's always funny to me. That is funny. It's true though kind of Uh 29 years ago today the very first alley McBeal Premier did you watch alley McBeal you like dally? I love dally McBeal sure I did yes And more baseball stuff 1998 this is the day that Mark McGuire of the St. Louis Cardinals big giant guy Roy Yeah, I all beefed up on the right he broke Roger Maris's 37-year-old record for homeruns in a single season hitting number 62
off of the Chicago Cubs He ended the year with 70 homeruns and then Barry Bonds another steroid user broke that record three years later when he hit 73 that's crap Yeah, Royates all about the Royates. Yeah All right, I tell you And you know what happened four years ago today? Mm-hmm Queen Elizabeth passed away four years ago. Yep. Well, I saw that Harry and Megan were back in doing some stuff in the I think they I think they may have come crawling crawling back a little bit Maybe they're running that line. Oh, oh Stirring they were out shaking hands of stuff Queen Elizabeth was 96 years old when she passed away 70 years on the throne man And when you sit on the throne that long and you haven't had any Success you could go Well, that's what happened Elvis Elvis was on the throne for a while and then he passed away on said throne. Yes. I'll get about a ring around your
Know what? Yeah, I know that her son She was obviously the queen his whole life, but I'm sure he thought certainly by the time I'm In my prime in my prime my 60s. She'll be Gone or show. I don't know. Could she have handed it over if she wanted to I don't know if you can do that, but he was also you know, he was with Princess Dye and then he So But he's still with the person that he It's tough. Well, that's who he wanted to be with. I mean, that's the screwed up thing about it That's who he wanted to be with all along. They made him be with Princess But just kind of coming away Do you know the difference between a Helac and an HCI? Yes, the sea hawkson Basically a rematch of super bowl 60 which we convincingly won 20 and 13 crushed them crushed them like a grape Um, so we're rematched that tomorrow night and then Thursday night football will be in Australia right and that's the 49ers and Rams And it's our friend john i believe is telling us that the 49ers have been there All week or the Rams have been there all uh the 49ers have been there all week the Rams are going at day before which is
Crazy the jet lag will be rough, but I would also make a case the less time you spend there The easier the reentry will be when you get back because you go there for a week all the sudden you're on that time Now you do your game then you have to come back and read just so But he was saying that they've made a lot of fans. They've been doing a lot of out So yeah, I think it'll be it'll feel like a 49er home game There and then looking ahead to sunday Now again the 49ers and Rams play it on Thursday Sunday all the football starts like everybody's playing with it's back all the way back Well on 60 minutes Sunday night the premiere that's like the 60 something season of 60 minutes They're going to have a whole feature on Sean McVeigh who is the coach of the Rams Oh, wow And he's one of those guys that kind of like your friend uh Mary Lou Hinner member she can remember a day Sean McVeigh true studio he can remember every single play he's ever called
In professional football even when he was an offensive coordinator. Oh my god Like if you say well in you know 2012 when you were the offensive coordinator for so-and-so You guys had the ball in the 40 what was the what played at you run there and he'll he'll remember it. Oh Regina cleverly pointed out uh JJ Watt will be with Uh Jim Nance. I think that's right All right, I think I heard something like that. So And next year probably have Travis Kelsey. He'll be doing it. You know, I think this is gonna be his last year playing football that yeah You know, we don't ever need to be a commentator who
Yo go look there out there in the 40 go go go go go go Yeah, I don't know Jim. I just think that they need to play their game and We don't need that Right he could get paid a lot of money if you want to do it. Yeah, I think his voice is a little higher than that. I have Chicago Las Vegas um see out all Buffalo New York Detroit, Tennessee, Los Angeles and Indianapolis and then I got a Denver kicker on my yeah You whose journey Bernard he's a Pittsburgh wide receiver You got him yeah, he's one of our backups
But I could put him in and let him play but he's not playing this week is he I don't know I got to figure out So do you do it game by game or week by week uh Well week by week, but you can make a change oh, that's right all the way up until kickoff as long as you okay But it's just our teams going up against Trevor's team so it's whoever scores the most points So I just need to play like I'll have my see hot guy and eat him to do well I'm trying to get into my league here.
