0:00We now return to the Dave and Molly show. Hey, welcome back everybody. Dave and Molly show continues live from the New America studio and we're very excited. The Spokane Interstate Fair will kick off on Friday. We have Aaron Grittell. She is the fair director. Exactly. Yes. Executive director. Well, I'm saying exactly. I'll be reading my title there. Just direct. Just direct. Okay. But I'm going to say best director in the history of all directors. What do you think about that? Very sad. Yeah, I'm going to challenge me on it if they want. I love that. I appreciate it. And this is a 75th year of the fair. So this is a big deal. Yeah, very exciting. What's new this year? Oh my gosh. So much. I'm going to put you right up on it. Yeah. Yeah, I made it as a bite into the. There you go. Perfect. One thing we do is we love to shake up our entertainment around the ground. So we're bringing in a lot of new. And we're going to call them free attractions, right? Once you're in the game, bought that ticket.

1:02We want you to turn every direction and run into something fun and exciting. Yeah. So we have an off-axis BMX stunt show. We have a canine circus. A canine circus. Yeah. Hey, honestly. Yeah. A Pirates and Parrots show. Pirates and parents. Pirates and parents. We have a lot of fun for you. Only one will survive. Pirates and parents. A butterfly. Yeah. So you'll be able to go into this really cool space and interact with butterflies. Nice. You know, new entertainment on some of our smaller stages around local bands that we're featuring. Our favorite hypnotist, Mark, he tried to retire for one year, but he's bad. Oh, good. So he's a super popular in the evenings. Our speak easy. We've grown the footprint. I mean, it's supposed to be our best cab secret. But lots of people found it last year. I heard it was a very big hit. It was. It was. So making that footprint larger, more offerings on the cocktails and live music on Friday

2:09and Saturdays, we really want to be kind of like that piano, sing along the bar. Sure. Come check that out. So it'll start Friday. And then it'll run through the following Sunday, the 10-day run of the fair. And then the other cool thing that I saw, like, I know for Friday is like what do you call it, heroes day. There's a lot of different days throughout the fair where there's free admission for certain groups of people, right? Yes. Yeah. So easy hop on our website, thespokenfair.com. Look at all the days that we're offering different activities in those free and discounted missions, picking things off like you said on 9-11 with heroes day. So military veterans, first responders, please come. You'll get in free. And here's one. This is Monday the 14th. Is this a free for everyone over 55? Is that what that said? It is. Sweet. Senior day. We can do it in your day. She gets to get in for free. And we reduce parking to $5 on senior day.

3:10Oh. So it's $10 all other days. Okay. Monday, senior day. Okay. Okay. So you're day two, right? Yeah. And the final Sunday brought to us by STCU. So anyone that works in an educator environment at any school or university gets in free, just need to bring your photo ID for your school. We're also having a food drive on Friday the 18th. So if you bring four non perishable items, you have $5 off your admission. And one other way to save is write the shuttle from SCC. All right. Yeah. It's $2 round trip for adults. Ask for the coupon that you take to the admission gate and you'll get $5 off of your admission. Oh, wow. So it's all kinds of different ways to either get in for free or reduce price. You just pick the day that works for you. And I love that it goes. The fair is always like that 10 day run, where the Friday through the following Sunday,

4:10there's got to be a day in there that works for everybody. So who is Clover? Oh, Clover is our baby, Highland Cow mascot. Oh. And so she will be making her debut at the fair this year, along with both the Nigerian Dwarf Goat, there was our mascot two years ago. Oh. Jack the donkey. Uh-huh. And some of their other farm family friends. Yeah. Well, I'm looking here at the under the SpokaneFair.com. It's the free fair fun. So these are tips and tricks. This is great to know because you can go on the website and it has all the different things that are included that you can do that are just a free barnyard races. Yes. It looks to me. It looks to me. And this is brought to by Ziggy's that there are ducks racing. Is that is that what's part of what's happening? Like real ducks? Real ducks. Oh, barnyard races, barnyard races, all kinds of barnyard stuff. All right.

5:10Can you bat on it? Secretly, maybe. Then I see the, there's like Hula, there's a stunt show that the butterfly thing that looks really cool. And you have a lot going on this year. And then there's the hypnotist. Oh, yes. Mm-hmm. And canine circus. I'm that I'm in the head to the canine circus. And then where is the speak easy? If you're, we're asking for friends because of course we, you know, if we have anybody who needs to know. So I would say if you're standing in the middle of food row, it would be to the north behind the north stage where you're going to see the hypnotist, the canine circus and all of those attractions. It's back in that area. Okay. All right. And then to get tickets, pay at the doors. You order ahead. What's the best thing to do? Well, I would plan ahead. You've got three days this week to still pick up discount tickets. Okay. And then come by the fairgrounds 10 to 6th today, tomorrow, Thursday.

6:14Okay. Our box office is open. No handling fees. You're going to be able to get those preseason rates on your tickets. You can also go to Wheatland banks in the, all their branches in the Spokane area. And you can buy a $40 carnival pass. Mm-hmm. And includes fair admission. So that's going to get you unlimited rides on the day of your choice. Oh. You just want to give that ticket to the carnival of kiosk. The day you want to ride. And you've got your mission into the fair for $40. And one last thing is visit your local yoke store. You can get a four pack of tickets for $40. And all of those specials go off sale on Thursday. Okay. Okay. So that is kind of the, you know, that's the idea. Get it before the fair starts. Because once it starts, you missed your opportunity to get the deals. And then you always have concerts. Like special. What are the, what are the shows this year? Sure. Tuesday evening is Gretchen Wilson in the band Perry. Oh, geez.

7:15Yeah. Good guess. Selling really well. Yeah. Yeah. And then Dottry, another big one, and then we've got the awesome country artist Nate Smith on Thursday. And I can't get you guys. The ticket's still available. Gretchen Wilson in the band Perry. That's. Yeah. That's legit, man. Uh-huh. And Dottry. Well, and Nate Smith, all of them. Well, this, um, your website is amazing. I love the, it shows like it's broken down really nicely to all the places you can get your tickets and then what to expect. Everything. That's, that's, that's really well done. Nice, nicely done. Thank you. Well, we'll be talking about the fair as we, as we get closer to it. But the, but it's, it's go time. If you're even thinking about one of those 10 days, take advantage of the sort of the preseason specials, I guess you would call them. Yeah. Save yourself some money and then, uh, and then get in there and, and then go crazy once you're inside.

8:16Yeah. Watch the kite, canine circus. Yeah. And, and all the, uh, all the different animals and, uh, more on the animal, we have an animal that will be coming into the studio tomorrow, right? Yes. So, um, sensory day, talk about sensory day real fast. And then we'll, we'll tell you who we're going to meet tomorrow. Okay. So, three days on Tuesday and that is a day that we limit sound and lights. And we just try to create a peaceful experience for our fair guests. We provide a number of free activities, a lot of arts and crafts hands on. We create a quiet zone. Our, um, partners of providence are sponsoring free carousel rides, um, from noon to three on, uh, Tuesday as well. Like, Kittyland Carnival will be open, but again, no sound, no lights. Just trying to make it a peaceful experience that maybe it's not overstimulating. The fair is a lot going on. Every way you look. So, um, so this will be a week from today.

9:16Yes. Okay. All right. And then, uh, and then we have, uh, pancake to pig, pancake to pig, a real pig. A real pig is coming into the studio tomorrow. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. I haven't even met pancake. I'm excited for you. I think it's going to be cool. What could go wrong? Yeah, really. We've had a go. Right on the stuff before. How big is pancake, do you think? I've seen pictures. I mean, regular size peg, I would say standard size. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But you'll be the experts. You'll be pancake. Okay. We'll see. We'll see. Yeah. We've never, uh, well, we've never had a, we've had a, we've had a, we've had a, we've had dogs in here. Your daughter's dog was in here trying to think of, I don't know that we've had any other infants in here. Yeah. It'll be, uh, it'll be a first for us. Maybe, maybe he made, maybe a pancake makes an appearance. We'll let the TV people know that pancakes coming into just in case they want to get in on the action.

10:16Yeah. Because celebrity. They're coming in a little later. They'll be here around nine. So yeah, we'll let them know. pancake doesn't wake up that early. Yeah. And we have, we have pancake, the pig and then the, what, what was the goat's name? Uh, bow. Bow the goat. And then the mule is a jack and then the cow, the little bit clover over. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, plus all of just the regular livestock. Yeah. Yeah. And the kids will all be out the first weekend showing all their animals and a lot of projects, a lot of work have went into this moment. Yeah. So when my grandson was, I think about four, we were at the fair and we did the thing where you throw the ping pong balls to get the goldfish. Yeah. But you can buy your way to success. You slip them 10 bucks and they're like, you get through the, but you're going to get a fish, right? At the end, and a little cage and like they are a thing. A cage. Well, a cage. A lot of it doesn't stay in the cage very long.

11:17So, uh, so we buy that and maybe he was even three. And then he sinks like two of the three balls that the snowy three fish coming home with us. So they put them all in the thing and they were all named after Paw Patrol. It was like rubble, chase and sky or one of those things. Well, then they can be lies. So then that you know, they eat it anyway. One of them survived the strongest chase. The dark side. Be a chase for four years. Really? Yes. It was a good one. Yeah. It was like, no, I'm going to survive and it's going to be survival of the fittest and this is going to, it was like three and a half four years. Something crazy. I kept getting him more of a situation like upgrading his situation because he kept living. So he got a bigger cage. He didn't have a goldfish cage. Some pet store was saying, thank you. Yeah. Exactly. But I was, I think what I liked about it was because it's hard to get the ball into the little thing so they have a way to kind of guarantee it.

12:20Yeah. And then they had a three year old sink and shots from 20 feet away. It's like, well, now we've got a manage. Now we have a whole collection of fish. And then you had to carry them around the fair all day. We did. And their little plastic bag. Yeah. Well, and they had given us the cage. Temperature. Actually, there's a picture of us. He's got his stroller. My friend was with me and we got the three fish here and then everything. Wow. Crazy. And the fish are like, oh my God. What is going on? Put us back in the bucket. They are tough fish if they didn't have heart attacks from the stinger. Yeah. I know. I think, and I kept thinking, no, this is going to go. But it was, it was, it was pretty, a pretty amazing buddy.
