2:02some football. It is crossover Thursday. I am Tony Wiggins, the host of Locked On Jaguars. And he is my main man, Spencer German of Locked On Browns. And let me tell you where we're going with today's show. At the end of the show, we'll do our keys to victory and predictions. Right in the middle of the show, we'll talk about the key matchups. I thought it was going to be Shadoos Santos against Travis Hunter, but it's not. And we'll begin the show talking about the biggest storylines. My man, Spencer German from Locked On Browns. The man is time. It's told me he's left the time here in Jacksonville is 90-some odd degrees. It's going to be like that this weekend. So tell all of the Brown fans, those dog-bound fans. They better go to the groomer and get some of that haircut because it's going to be hot down here in Jacksonville, though. I'm getting the haircut on Thursday. So when this air, so it'll be perfect. I'll be ready to go for the weather down there. Yeah, the heat, I think, smaller thing to talk about in this matchup, because I think it is going to play a factor in Tom Munkins last couple of weeks is kind of joked about the fact that it's been 90 in Cleveland through these first couple of weeks of September

3:06already. And he's been taking advantage of it. They've been practicing outside. They've been trying to stay out in the heat. So trying their best to prep for, yes, this Jacksonville game, but then they go back to Florida in week two to play Tampa. So they got kind of two weeks in a row in that Florida heat. So I think that's something they'll keep it in mind. It's going to be a minor factor in this game. Yeah, it's a different kind of heat. And the two teams that we're talking about, the Jaguars and the Browns, they got two different kinds of heat. Believe it or not, after 13 win seasons, the Jaguars have pressure because there are a lot of people that go, oh, I was a fluke. They ain't going to win that many. I don't know how you win 13 games in the league that we're in and it be a fluke. And then the Browns, they're under heat because where's the same kind of heat? That means we've gone through like seven years where we don't know what they're going to get from the quarterback position. We've thought when Kevin's the fanski left, all of the messaging would change. It hasn't. We still don't know what they're going to do at quarterback long, short term. So why don't you fill us in? Yeah, what's interesting about that is I do think there's obviously pressure in certain areas of this team and certain areas of this roster and from, for this franchise, just

4:09in general. But I also think it weirdly enough like this year kind of feels like it's starting with less pressure in general around the franchise because this offseason, they finally kind of embraced where they are in their timeline, right? Trading miles Garrett was the ultimate waving of the white flag that we know we're not ready to contend this year. Miles is at the prime of his career. Let's send him somewhere where he can try to win a Super Bowl. And we're going to sort of get young, get draft capital, try to sort of build ourselves into a contender in the coming years. Now that doesn't mean there's no pressure at all though. Andrew Berry's draft class has to hit, right? These young guys that they added this year on top of the guys they added last year, which was a really good class. Those guys have to perform. So there's some pressure on Andrew Berry because he's now going to be set up theoretically to finally get this quarterback situation corrected next off season. If that's what happens, I think there's a lot of pressure on top monkey because even though

5:09everyone is expecting that he might be a one and done coach. They're saying, yeah, he's just here to sort of be a stopgap until next year when they finally can get their quarterback and all these different things. He has to prove those people wrong. He has to go out and try to squeeze as much out of the roster as he can. And that's going to start week one on the road in Jacksonville with a quarterback by the way that nobody in the fan base, maybe a very small percentage of the fan base trusts whatsoever. And so he made the decision to start to show Watson. If Dishon doesn't perform well, it's going to look bad on top. And that's going to be a rough way to start your tenure here with the Browns. And hey, I chose this guy to be my starter and the offense still doesn't have it. And I think for the Browns, like the biggest storyline of this game certainly starts with the quarterback position. And what is Dishon wants to look like? He's seven and old against the Jags all time. Is that going to continue? Can he dust off some of that old Dishon magic or is he completely shot? I tend to fall into the latter category, but I do think that's the number one thing everyone's watching in this game is like, did Tom McKinney make the right choice?

6:10Is this going to actually work for the offense? Are there going to be some growing pains for the offense with him in it as he's coming off of the twice rupture to kill these and an entire season where he didn't play? So there's a lot to unpack there as far as the court of action is concerned and in Tom McKinney making should or Dishon Watson rather his starter for week one. You know what, man, these two teams are kind of joined at the hip because you talked about that draft class last year. And of course, that's the draft of where the Jaguars traded up with the Browns so that we could take Travis Hunter. So it'll be a little bit of what could have been type thing when you look at Travis. It's not the same for the Jaguars because I don't think the Jaguars would have taken the same players that Cleveland took. So it's not really apples to apples. But there's a very similar situation in terms of this is Todd Munkins first year. And he scares me a little bit because the last time a very, very well respected long time assistant outside of David Cully and all those dudes in Houston. And last time a guy like this got a job, it was Bruce Ariens. It's like, okay, yeah, he's just and look how that turned out. It was really, really good, right?

7:11So the fear of the unknown is still there a little bit with with Todd Munkin and with the Sean Watcher. But a year ago, Liam Cohen took over a team that had won four games that had a quarterback that was in battle because a lot of people was starting to say bust and travel arts. And then they turned it around in one 13 game. Now, I think Cleveland's going to turn it around and win 13 games. But it does gives you a little bit of perspective if you're Jaguars fans. And say, hold up, man, don't be counting Cleveland out as a loss because people did that to us last year. And we beat 13 teams. Yeah, it's a good point. And I do think there's certainly some differences in terms of like the Jaguars roster last year when Liam Cohen came in was in a much better position to start winning. Like that's the reason they made that change was they weren't, they didn't have enough success under Doug Peterson and they had their quarterback situations resolved Trevor Lawrence's their guy. They had built this kind of young core that they were in the right direction and just need some change. So I think from that standpoint, like timeline wise, Todd Munkin is certainly behind in that regard.

8:12But listen, I think you're right. Like I've argued all off season. Why I don't think Todd Munkin should be a one and done coach. Why I don't think he will be a one and a coach because if if in the browser, always make the most sound decisions, they can they obviously can do whatever they want. But by the end of the season, if the team struggles like you kind of should have expected that. So to me, it's like if you're trying to give a guy actual time to build a culture, build this offense, find the right quarterback. He needs more than a year to do that. I'll say this though, since you brought up Liam Cohen and the Jaguars and their coaching staff in the with the with the thought process in the back of people's minds that maybe Todd Munkin is a one and done coach. There's a guy who's going to be on the opposite sideline, you know, Liam Cohen's right hand man who the browns had interest in this off season. And maybe the timing wasn't totally right, you know, maybe that so is this a small preview of like what's to come in 2027 if Todd Munkin isn't still here where they're trying to go back and hire that young hot coordinator, whether it's him, whether it's a Nate Shieldhouse

9:14from the Rams, who was also in the mix. But I find that kind of a fun underlying storyline to this one as well. So wait a minute, we're going in the week one of 2026 and you're trying to steal my offense coordinator and take us into 2027. Oh, no, we were just one 13 game brother. We are not going in a time machine and just going to just skip past this season. We go out to talk about it at least for the day show. We're going to fit this talk about it. We're going to give you some key matchups. And I'm going to tell you right now, man, it's going to start in the trenches. Football is still about blocking and tackling. And of course, turnovers and that means the quarterbacks have to play extremely well to make sure that doesn't happen. I'm going to talk about Travis Hunter and his key matchup with the Sean Watson and why I think that's going to play an integral part in the way that this game goes. I was real close to just, just being petty and sending a little shot, but I have to make sure I watch my mouth because it's a friendly show today. I keep match up. Travis Hunter. I know everybody wants to see it. Browns fans didn't see a whole bunch of it. I think the four of fans only saw like one third of it. He went out after six games last year, more defense than offense for him. See, if the Sean watching starts being Lucy Goosey with the ball, now the difference this year between the Jaguars last year, but the safety and Tony Johnson led us in interception. I think the instinctive nature of Travis Hunter and the fact that he is chomping at the

13:21bed, he's bigger. He's over 190 pounds. He's buffed up. And I really think he's looking to make a huge impact on both offense and defense. If the Sean Watson makes mistakes, if there's a tip ball, you got to watch out for number 12. And I think that they may play a key part in this game. Yeah, I obviously this would be a lot more fun if it was. Should we're starting to do the old teammates playing against each other offense first defense. And that'd be that being awesome thing to talk about for sure. But I'll say this like the Sean Watson, what we know about his game right now, and we saw throughout the throughout camp in the preseason, he's not really pushing the ball down and he's not feeling much. And so I think that's going to give somebody like Travis Hunter a lot of opportunities to be more aggressive and try to make some plays because they kind of can't expect what's coming. If it was should or I think there'd be more of that deep threat ability. I don't think to Sean's necessarily going to give you that. He seems that this stage to sort of be more of a game manager. It was a lot of like think and Doug stuff down the field, which that might just be who

14:21he is at this point. How long can it's going to have to get the most out of that. I'm fascinated to see, you know, what Travis looks like in a full time corner back role. This bronze team has some really good receivers now to think about. It's not just Jerry Judy anymore. Denzel Boston is the main ex guy now because he's that deep threat 50 50 ball guy and he was tremendous throughout camp. He had maybe two drops the entire camp that I saw. And then Casey concepts you on the slot. I know that Travis Hunter's not going to operate as much in the slot, but he's going to be a real weapon, I think, for this offense. And I think that he'll transcend whoever's at quarterback for the Browns. Like he'll make plays no matter what because they're going to try to get him the football. So yeah, I think in general, seeing how Travis, who Travis matches up against and how he does against this revamped receiver receiver core that the Browns have and how aggressive he can play with some of the limitations to Sean have will be to Sean has will be interesting. I do want to know how what are Jaguars fans expecting on the other side for Travis Center because he has moved more to full time, but they did leave that door open of like, yeah,

15:25we'll have some packages for him. And this was always kind of pre draft where people thought they should do, right? So how often do you expect to see him on the offensive side of the football? Yeah, that's a good question. He'll be there. I do believe though that he needed more on defense last year when they came in. I think he needed the reps on offense. And that's not an indictment on coach primer or anything like that. But Travis Hunter can play cornerback rolling out of bed, right? We know that when the difference between a college corner and a college wide receiver when this entire organization was learning a new offense, I think if you're going to play him on both sides, you've got to put him over there so he gets in tune with his quarterback. On defense, yeah, the communication and all of that stuff matters, but he's an outside corner. It's not like him being in a slot where he has to have a whole bunch of communication. They do play off. So he has to key off with some of the offensive alignment with the way he's going to attack and whether or not he's going to play up or bail out a little bit.

16:28So it's still not as much. I think it was harder to learn a new offensive receiver. So that's why they did that in my opinion last year. I always felt like he needed more refinement at receiver than he did at corner just from the nature of coming from college to going to the pros. I will tell you this though since you just put that out there for me. There's something I'm not going to lie to you. When you all traded Miles Garrett, I had a big smile on my face. And I'm going to tell you who had a bigger smile on their face, probably Liam Cohen, Trevor Lawrence, and now Anton Harrison who's moved over the left tackle, but they shouldn't smile too much now. We reckon like, you know, Jared Versailles, libra and onions. Now he ain't Miles Garrett, but he ain't like the sweet peas on your plate that you don't want to eat. He's a good football player too. He is. And that's the thing like the Browns were adamant when they made this train that they wanted Jared Versailles back in which is they wanted to plug the whole immediately with a guy who's been a two time pro bowler in his first two years in the league, one defensive

17:29rookie of the year, his rookie season, and has been a tremendous player in his own right. He's like a fringe top 10 pass rusher himself. And he does it a different way than Miles. And I think that the most important thing for him has been, you know, since he got here, he's gotten lots of questions and been asked a lot about filling those shoes. And he's made it very clear like, you know, Miles might wear size 13 Nike's and I wear size 13 Jordans. Like he's not trying to fill my shoes. And I think that's the important thing Browns fans need to know kind of going into this game. But yeah, he's going to he's going to give some fits to those those offensive linemen that you mentioned the guys on that front, the certainly the tackles. And he doesn't a different way. He's more of a power rusher than like the finesse, you know, juke move type stuff that Miles used to do and he was so good at it. So I'm not going to sit here and tell you the production is going to be the same or he he keeps Liam comb, combing up at night as Miles did. But he certainly is somebody that the the Jaguars are going to have to account for and that, you know, Harrison and even Cole Van Lennon Van Lennon, if he's if he moves to the

18:33other side at all, are going to have to think about a little bit here. So we'll see how that plays out. I'm glad you went to the old line and the D line because one of the most talked about and and players that the that Browns fans are most excited about. Obviously, is Spencer Fano, their new left tackle who they took ninth overall and the matchup between him and Josh Heinz Allen is one that I am very fascinated to see because Spencer got better as training camp went on cemented himself as the starting left tackle. He was going against Jared verse every day and he saw that style of like a power rusher. But I think Josh Heinz Allen is going to give him a little bit of a different look. And so how he adapts to different styles of of rushers starting the week one and throughout the season is going to kind of be that next step he has to take. And so I'm fascinated to see how he holds up against one of these better past rushers in the NFL immediately in week one. It's a really good test for him. That is a good test and I'm glad you brought that up because it was something that I actually wanted to pivot to a little bit because what he's going to say, I'm going to give you

19:37an idea what he's going to say. Josh Heinz Allen is a power guy who can also he can go from speed to power from power to speed and trade one walkers the same way and they do a little bit of interchange. But mainly for Josh Heinz Allen, what it is with him is he keeps giving that second and third effort. It's not necessarily the first move all the time, but it is the second one, right? And then when the Jaguar goes to a little bit more of a sub package, the key with Fano is he's going to get this different type of defensive end maybe three times in this game. You're going to get Josh Allen who's 65, 265 pounds. And then you're going to get BJ Green, another kid out of Colorado who was one of the better rookies last year. He's 61270, but he's twitched up and he's like a 500 and he's different. And then Brian Thomas Jr., no, not the Wyver secret, the other one that an undrafted rookie that flashed and had four sacks, well, he's 62235. So I think they're going to possibly throw the book at Fano over there with a bunch of different looks to see how it plays out.

20:38By the way, you guys added like 17 offensive linemen in free agency. So how that going to? Yeah, listen, I think one of the biggest questions, when you when you when you separate from the quarterback part of this because we know the quarterback's going to be the story all seasoned for the Browns and what they're going to do there next year and all that, when you move on from that, the next biggest question I think for this team is what is this offensive line going to look like? The phrase that I keep going back to was they addressed the offensive line, which was a problem for them last year. That group had aged out a couple of years ago. That was one of the best of lines in football where you had Wyatt Teller and Jack Conchlin and Joe Patoni in those guys. But last year they were getting hurt too much. They had aged out. They just were not as strong as they once were. And so it was time to turn a lot of these guys over. Now you don't want to over an entire offensive line in one off season, though. That's a tough thing to accomplish. And a tough thing to sort of count on being solid for you the next year. So did they address it or did they fix it? That's the big thing that we're sort of waiting to see and they're going to try to answer during the season.

21:38I think we saw some signs that they can be an effective running offensive line and effective running team during camp in the preseason. And I do think Tom Munkin's offense calls for that. He's going to want to run the football. I also think because the quarterback situation, he's going to want to run the football. But how do those guys hold up in a live game scenario? How do they hold up in pass pro? Those are some of the big questions we still have to answer. And I don't know that this entire group that's here this year will be the exact same next year. Other than Spencer Fano, I can I can guarantee you will obviously be here because he's their future at light left tackle. All right. We're going over winning formula and keys to victory and maybe even a prediction. Yeah. You know, maybe we're going to give you a prediction. 24:49Something tricky about this game for me is this Cleveland had a lot of competition because they had a new coaching staff and a lot of young players similar to what Liam Cohen did last year and they played a lot of people right? They played 75 quarterbacks. No, just joking. They played all of their quarterbacks, all of their running backs, all of their office and I'm on the diva. Everybody, everybody got involved. The Jaguars did not play any starters at all. If they did, it was very, very rare that you saw somebody who's going to be consistently on the field. Most of the time they had 37 people on these preseason games standing over there with T-shirts on. So the one thing that they didn't do is get all greased up in the preseason. However, they did have joint practices with every one of their preseason opponents and they were extremely physical all week. So I hope they don't get off to a slow start. That's the only thing that could absolutely scare me about this because football is a game of repetition and continuity. I just, that scares me just a little bit for this game and but I don't think they're going to take Cleveland lightly at all because that's just not the way that they're going to. Yeah.

25:50And I do think that's one of the luxuries for Cleveland of them playing a team like Jacksonville early in the season like this because there tends to be some trends around the league where teams sometimes do start slow, right? Especially teams that have maybe like these high powered offences or visions of a high powered off and sometimes it takes a little bit to get that that their identity figured out and sort of settle in. I think we've seen that over the years and by like week five six seven. Sometimes where they really start cooking. So the fact that Jacksonville is in week one and they could get off to a slow start. Maybe plays rounds hands a little bit. Those are always games where you can sort of steal one like last year. They open with the bangles and it was a game that they should have won if not for a missed PAT and a missed field goal. And so it's like sometimes you can steal one early in the season because of that. So yeah, it's it'll be interesting to see what that looks like for Jacksonville. Even though the Browns played their starters a little bit, it wasn't enough for me to think that they're going to be some well oil machine necessarily right off rip. Now maybe that maybe that's the top monkey effect and he will have those guys ready.

26:51The Ravens offense from from jump street was really really good last year was their defense that wasn't issue. So maybe he'll he'll have that sort of ironed out. But yeah, I do think that tends to kind of be the trend around the NFL that all teams kind of early in the season are figuring out who they are because they don't play much in the preseason. And so how do you kind of combat that and figure that out once they once the bullet really start flying will be something to certainly monitor on Sunday like who gets off to a hot starter who starts quick. I do think the Browns will have a good opening script like I can see them coming out and having a really good drive put together from Tom monkey and to score on the first drive or whenever the first possession is. But then it's going to kind of come down to like all right, what happens after that? And that's where I have my doubts about how things kind of go from there. Yeah, so with this game, I kind of go back to when Jacksonville wasn't considered a very good team. But I remember John Harbock saying during the game in Baltimore was beating Jacksonville. During the time out, they had a miced up and he told one of the Jaguar players, man, you guys play hard. And in the NFL, we just saw college football starting some of these teams in week one had

27:55the pansy schedule, right? These teams, they were 45 point favorites. You never see anything like that in NFL. The most you're going to see is 17, 18 points. And that's when it's like the very best team against the team that's not very good because the evidence flow of the NFL doesn't allow somebody to beat people 56 to nothing like it does in college. With that being said, my prediction is, this is going to be a workman like NFL game. This is going to be a game where you going to see the Jaguars working out the kinks and look, Cleveland, Cleveland's Javier versus Schwestinger, where I'm over at corner. They got a pretty good team when you think about it. And that defense, even though Jim Schwartz is going and Miles Garrett is going, that's still the core of a good, good solid defense. Mason Graham in the middle of course, that's the Travis Hunter trade partner and all of that. I do think we get to the point where though, Cleveland gets a little desperate because at some point, the Jaguars are going to end up getting maybe a two score game. I think we're going to see a different quarterback. I don't know who's going to be. I know he was talking about Taylor and Green and all of this stuff.

28:56My prediction is the Jaguars win a workman like game 26 to 13. Yeah, I think we're, our heads are in similar places. It turns like a score prediction. I think, I think you're right. I think the Browns showed throughout training camp in the preseason. Todd Munkin's kind of in stota, a very tough, gritty personality in this group. Like they're going to play hard. I think they're going to be more competitive in a lot of games this year than they maybe that they maybe weren't competitive in last year. Maybe that starts immediately. I do think they'll have a really good opening script. I'm predicting here that they'll score on their opening drive in some capacity. Maybe it's a touchdown. Maybe it's a field goal. I think they'll score on their opening drive. And then I think after that, things will kind of go to the way side. I mean, this is a young team. They're going to have, there's going to be some kinks to work out. They have some weapons that I'm excited about and that Browns fans should be excited about, you know, Casey Concepts you own is going to be a real, a real tool for them. Denzel Boston, same thing. We know about Quinch on Junkins. I think they want to run the football. What I think is interesting in this matchup is Jaguars were like the best run defense

29:58and football last year in terms of yards allowed for game. So they did a pretty good job of stopping teams run games. We'll see if they can lean on that or if they're if the show wants and is going to have to make some plays. And if the show wants is going to have to make some plays, I just don't believe that they're going to they're going to come from him. So I think the Browns defense is still going to be pretty good, but there's some, you know, mystery to how Mike Gutenberg is going to do things versus how Jim Schwartz did things. You kind of knew what to expect with Jim Schwartz. So we'll see if they're as good, but if the offense can at least raise the bar a little bit and balance that out, that's again, where I think you get a more competitive Browns team in general. But I think ultimately there's a reason there's a reason Fandall has this line at eight and a half. And I think it jumped from seven and a half to eight and a half like just this week. So I think the Browns will be competitive. I think the Jags pull away in the second half after they kind of work out some of those kinks. I'm going to say Jacksonville wins 24, 14 and the Sean Watson's undefeated record against the Jaguars finally gets a bluff in Sean.
