Clarecastle Quay Reopens Following Repairs

Clare FM

About this episode

Clarecastle Quay has finally reopened following a significant act of accidental damage. The entrance to the historic Port of Clare was struck by a large vehicle in early March, leading to the collapse of a stone pillar and the original sign. Ennis Municipal District has completed its repairs of the structures. Clarecastle Sinn Féin Councillor Tommy Guilfoyle says it was a major effort.

It wasn't a quick fix unfortunately, I taught myself maybe you might be able to bend back the actual gear and straighten it again, but unfortunately because of the damage that was done and because of the nature of the finish to the steel that couldn't be done. So the halting had to be brought away and made a new pillar then had to be rebuilt as well and reinforced so that the pillar wouldn't come down as easy the next time.
