1:05We talked about everything we talked about the angels being sold because he grew up 15 minutes from angel stadium We talked about how surprised and pleasantly surprised he has been with his particular recovery from Tommy John We talked about the possibility of a workstop and you're like all sorts of stuff. He found it interesting that a team that has struggled as severely as the angels sold for four billion dollars He's like this sport can be extremely profitable and everybody can find a nice balance So agreed I Have listened to a show one of my good buddies puts on they're very financially savvy in the tech world type stuff and they've started talking about how The ownership has changed from guys that you know really care about the organization a la a

2:10Steinbrenner even a craft in the NFL to now it's like businessmen are buying These teams as well. There's a tax shelter. There's a lot of things going into it now Not so much I'm buying this team because I want to be part of the community all these things. So there's that there's that aspect to it I don't know man. I do have advice for both sides. I've said this before Yeah, shut up shut like in the in the media stop talking nobody wants to hear it just talk amongst yourselves That's my biggest advice to both sides. That's like is there's got to be a day where we put in that there I would agree and I you know whatever players might be pissed about it and would I have liked it probably not but

4:21I mean, it's just gonna take one unfortunate instance right right? Well, you have officially reached jamboy dad status with that stance. I know huh. I know players would absolutely Get it that's something they would fight for in the collective bargaining agreement to be honest, but fans also hated it at the beginning They hated it. Oh, they can't throw me a baseball anymore. I can't see through the netting. It's like I got to imagine the netting industry could You know benefit from some sort of What am I looking for what what what am I looking for like how about some clear nets or something like that They got it they got to have technology for that. 5:22trouble for Ronald Acunia Jr It's it deep to last Lion Is out of room and that is career home run number 200 for Ronald Acunia Jr And he said that one to the moon 200th homer to join 200 steals he is the youngest member of that group Do you think that Ronald Acunia is under appreciated? I do not and I'm curious if you have a argument against that I mean the guys one in the p's a five-time all star He won rookie of the year. He's got some silver sluggers I don't know what else we need to say. I mean I think we appreciate the talent on the field I mean he's got one of the best arms in the league. I love one that could showcase You know, I I guess there's a couple in our couple Statistics that maybe are underrated with Acunia because you think about the homers you think about the steals

6:23But if you really want to break it down like what he's done so well as a hitter is his on base percentage Like he's always had a above league average walk percentage for his career He's a 380 OBP guy and I think a lot of people don't have him as that And that's to me is the most impressive part of his game Maybe not the most impressive part, but that's what really rounds off his game You got guys that are sluggers you got guys that can play a little bit defense But the guys that have the full package like him They're just not around. He's a true five-tool player. So I do think though he is Value the right way if anything. It's a little it's a little Jacob de Gramme for me where it's like man like what could have been he missed a bunch of time with injuries But when he's been on the field he's been exceptional um, but I don't know I think I think at least in my mind we have him properly rated I think he's a little bit forgotten to be honest when we have the conversations and those are the fun ones about the best players in the game And who would you rather have and all that sort of stuff?

7:24He doesn't get brought up until the end and you say well, what about Ronald a coon you go? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's great too Because I think I mean he's missed almost 30% of the Braves games since he joined the team in 2018 And obviously the last few years it's really been drastic And I think that's the one thing that holds him back Because he's 28 years old dude he can still He can still run and that that's the the powers always going to be there that that swing is Awesome, and I know that he's had trouble with the high fastballs And that's why everybody was so excited to see him lift that one out there Yes, you're hey, but I think the the Homer numbers are always going to be there for him It's to me the steals you know twice in ACL um But his that in particularly The way the games played now where you're limited on your throwovers And it feels like it's never been easier to steal than it is now Can he steal until age 32 to get him to 400 swipes

8:24That's what I want to know 400 swipes it's a lot I I don't have him getting there And that depends on how long you play as I guess but I Think that's going to slow down that that part of his game will slip you see it from everybody like very few people continue to steal bags at that type of rate later on in their career I mean in his early 30s like Jose Ramirez. I know he missed a month This season, but he's in in the 30s. He's been stealing left and right and he's like 33 maybe 32 so I don't know If you were to have a a draft How high does around old Akuni go? 9:2628 years old 28 years old would you rather have him or James would James would Okay Tatis that's a good one right there freak that's a good one Oh, she's I don't know I'm a I love watching I think I'll go to a tease but that's just because like that's like you just nailed like the guy that I want to watch the most in Majorly baseball, but I think they're very close. So that's what I'm but it gets me back to the original premise Which is is he under appreciated we just had two guys in their 20s to play the same position as him That we would rather have than Ronald Akuni. I mean are you are you answering the same as me both wood and Tatis man Tatis is really close to me. I think James Woods offense a profile right now is just too hot

10:26Yeah Tatis is a coin flip and I think I agree with you on wood just because we don't see guys his size hit lead off and I mean, I really think he's gonna be consistently a 40-homer guy Yeah, and he's you know he's 23 right now so that you talk about Entering his prime like he's still got those years ahead of him. Yeah Oh interesting. Yeah, Tatis and Akuni is a great one. I the more and more I think about if I don't if I don't like have Tatis in my mind is like I love watching this guy which I do Push that out. I think I do go Akuni Rank those three right fielders. 14:40They're both fantastic and they get the job done different ways is which is really cool You know talk about Dylan cease and you know he's a guy that throws well primarily he was a two-pitch pitcher Um, and then this year goes to Toronto and learns to change up and that's helped them and equalize some things and slitler's just like a bully with these three different fast ball That's it's great to see Are you more impressed that Schlitler In his first real full season of matrily baseball has gotten this good this quick or that cease after inking a 210 million dollar deal has been worth every penny I mean, I love that I love guys that go and hold up their bargaining contracts and he's still got some time left on that contract So you know, it's not over yet, but I think I'm more impressed with Schlitler. I mean If he was on a different team. I like a chase burns I don't know if I feel the same way, but there's a men's pressure on this guy who he's become the ace of The Yankee staff a staff that has

15:41Garrett Cole and Max freed on it as well. I mean has he not I mean he's pitched the best out of all those guys Now is he the veteran is he did they say that probably not? But if you're looking objectively at who the best pitcher has been this year. It's been came Schlitler And to do that at 24 in that market hit a remarkable postseason last year Like that to me as a young guy and like he's one of these guys like Talks his shit too, and I don't know. It's very impressive To not let that end to your head at all like the mental fortitude that he has um It's just It's very very impressive. Love what Cease is doing up there, but To be a young guy in this environment in the playoffs in the Bronx American the East and and to do what he's done. I think is more impressive So I had a fascinating conversation yesterday with with Matt Blake the pitching coach of the Yankees And I said tell me something about Schlitler that I just don't really know and he goes

16:41Most people think he's just a goofy kid and he's got that side of him But he really at this young and age pays attention his craft and he utilizes the fact that he does have Max freed and Garrett Cole and Carl Sorghane his disposal he said not every young pitcher does that sometimes they think when there is talented as Schlitler is Living at a hundred with every fastball in the fact. He's got three different fastballs that he can throw We'll just kind of say hey, I'm good. I'll figure it out on my own. What do you got? I don't believe that The three different fastballs. No that like I just think that anybody that has that Starting pitcher room is gonna. I would hope from guys. I would hope I mean he If you're saying if they didn't but he said it for a reason he said it for reason and then I brought up the point I said do you remember at the beginning of the year? I said I like cams Schlitler so much that even when Garrett Cole returns That he will get game two in whatever series he has to pitch behind Max freed remember when I said that

17:45This was before he obviously has turned into what he has turned into a true sion contender Well now I I asked Blake and he wouldn't answer the question of course. I said how do you go about figuring out which of those guys you pitch because most likely You're gonna end up in a three game series to start He said Chris. That's a great question. He says you have to manage egos you have to figure out and you have to be able to be very clear With your explanations the guys has to why they're pitching where they are and I said which game in a three game series is most important to you or more important is it one or two I think it's two as well He said it's he said we when you're in the in the dog digs of it you don't sit down He goes it's a great question. He goes we just have not sat down to figure it out yet He goes but I can see game two because of the way you're either saving your season or trying to end somebody else's It's that'll be interesting for them because I to me and he's showed the poise already again He's pitched the postseason last year and he's been phenomenal this year

18:48It'd be interesting to me to see if they're like hey you take game one We'll give you the nod is like the opening Starter in the playoffs and then you have a max freed. I think probably go game two who's got More experience and maybe a little less nervous although like more. I think but he this guy doesn't ever seem like he's nervous That they have a fascinating decision there because they have three guys that Four guys really that on any other team will probably start the most important game Uh, chatted up max freed too when we both agreed of course that you've got a good life Yeah, I love maxi Okay, I do have a good life. Thought you know hear me complaining. No, you don't No, you and good for you. I want to say one other thing about Dylan Seas I'm not gonna say I was wrong because I always appreciated his talent I was skeptical that he would be as consistent as he's a you're a hater I was not a hater. There's a big difference. I've never hate why in the world do

19:50Just because you bring up a point and that has been his mo right there Been years where he had walked the world and you'd be like god is so frustrating to watch It has been nothing But a pluses across the board for him this year You know, I went back to his Sevant page as well as prepping for this show And there really hasn't been a year with been like a crazy walk percentage like he's always like You know 10 and a half you know, it's more he's he's been around 25th percentile his entire career I thought it'd be way worse because the way we talk about him is like This guy is gonna be in the first percentile like the like the worst in baseball. He's just not except that Twice in his first four years he led the league in walks and in 2023 He must have been second or third because he even had more walks in 2023 23 he was 25th percentile walk percentage at 10.1 so that he walks because he's making all his start

20:50So that's you know, you're gonna lead in some categories when you're making all your starts But I mean did he need to get better or did he did he need to get better sure? But it wasn't as bad as I thought Well to me it's I guess it's the strikeout to walk rate That went because when you're can all those guys and he is just a lot of pitches Yeah, he makes every freaking start That's when that's when it gets when you watch a guy and he's and he's striking everybody out and then he's walking guys too It's like it's almost like go on dude like let him put the ball in place speed this thing up a little bit that cadence of the game gets you a little bit Yeah, he's just That one two punch soriano go this afternoon in Cleveland. That's it's pretty good between those two It's all they have right yeah, that is all they have right no, okay, that's not true I'm like they've been running a bullpen game every fifth. I think it's more than that I think I think there's like two bullpen games through the rotation dude. It's like

21:52Oh, they're gonna have to figure that out yes, they are They're definitely gonna have to figure it out no question Uh, okay, where are you currently one and a half games back in the wild card? My twins could have made it two and a half last night. Oh, they blew it last night. They blew it They sure did and when you're at home and the other team does not score twice in In extra-annings no, they didn't they scored Once and they were and they had a runner on third base. He's got a command is fastball if he doesn't command his fastball He's he's good, but he's not You saw what happened tonight and he walks people so Is there something you can take away from that you're often saying or wins mask the problems that it's a good thing to to feel this right now I don't think it's a good thing, but I think it's it's something that we got to work on we got it We got it he knows he needs to address it. 25:01He was slipping on the mound don't know And he explained to us because the reporters did a great job saying when you slip on the mound What does that mean for you? I respect it Okay, deep Now this was the first time all year that miss had allowed more than three earned runs in a start and it's start 26 I believe I will be curious to see if they kind of curtail his innings Dial him back a little bit because if he is not the miss that we have seen through most of the year They're going to have zero shot of getting to the world series So I I thought the same thing, you know going back to his last star He's like we mentioned some of the stuff that he's talked about with the mound and the Velo being down and all these things

26:06And that's my first thought was like okay, well like maybe like we need to You know space him out as bet and they and they do as best they can they space him out and they You know try to give him an extra day or whatever it may be they're they're doing They're doing they're proactive about it But when you watch him slip on the mound. I mean that is a real problem Chris And I don't know exactly what you do To prevent that like he's getting I To me when you get that far down the mound and nobody else's land here That's usually like a good thing. Hey, I can create my own hole and I can have my own landing area like if you're in a batter's box And if you play a youth baseball you surely know this if you stand in a different part of the box and everybody else You know have to deal with the massive holes in the batter's box. It's a it's a good thing But when you watched him pitch last night Like he against that first a bat against PCA who had never gotten on base against him He was slipping all over the place And I think when that happens Whether it's every time I mean if it's every time that's a different case or even if it's

27:08Three or four times in inning like your conviction on pitches is going to be Nil You know you you having to worry about hey, is my front foot gonna move when I plant like that is the first thing That's in your mind now instead of I'm gonna rip this Pitch and I'm gonna you know again, they have the conviction that I need so I think he's fine like the arm strength is fine. So like I talked about that A week or so ago and some people pointed out like hey like go look at what his foot is doing on the mound That needs to get cleaned up and I don't know how you do that on the road Unless you go to the guys pregame or the hey man like you need to add some more clay where I land Because there's not enough clay there for me to stick And I don't know To visiting Ground screw guys like okay. Thanks man. I'll do it for you or they're like no dude like we're just gonna take care of the mound Like always I don't know how you fix that but that that's in me. That's a real problem It's a real problem because he keeps talking about it too and and like is it Was it happening earlier on in the year two? It seems like it's just come up

I can only talk about The innings I mean he's at 90 more innings right now just regular season So I would expect them to dial it back you know a couple weeks ago I had them on dugout discussions and I asked him if there had been discussions With the organization about what the plans were moving forward to make sure he's a hundred percent when we hit October

29:17He said no And I said how's your you know what's your feeling gonna be if they say hey dude We need to dial it back he goes I'll be pissed but I understand it Yeah, and I don't there's not a perfect There's never buzzers or alarms that go off when guys hit certain certain innings because you everybody's body is different So right the history shows that when guys make this monumental a leap from one year to the next in terms of innings and workload that at some point There's you got to pay the piper but Yeah, I mean look I don't know what what do you want them to clearly they want no help they want the buy and right now They have a significant lead even and they're gonna their four games up and on Atlanta four and a half games up on the Dodgers Right now the Dodgers would be in the wild card which they did last year Right It's possible That if they get to where they think like hey like we're going to get this buy I don't know when that will come It's possible at that point they skip a start and just do some sort of

30:22Extended bullpen instead of game situation. It's possible. They do that. But I think they're really looking for this buy Yeah, I mean Look, I don't expect him to have any more eight inning efforts this year. I mean His 162 average Throughout his career is 34 105 this is people. Let's just talk about this This is what the guys pay to do. It's hit homers and drive-in runs I don't need to know anything other than that you talk about counting stats all you want that is his job And he's so for his career again 162 average 34 105 what's he at right now? He's at 32 and 83 The slash line is right on par with his career slash line like

32:28He just needs to be a hitter and so far so good Especially this year in San Francisco. He's making them what 31 to 33 million dollars going forward If you're a 30-100 guy you're living up to the billing that's he needs to be that and he's he's doing it right now So yeah, I think he he him alone can't he can't bring the giants back to relevancy We know in baseball as a sport one guy is not doing that. They're just not like he needs the surrounding cast to be there for him If they want to make any moves in the NL so Rafi Devers needs to be a 30 and a 100 guy and he's basically been that so I think that is how you live up to the billing Yeah, he had that little dust up earlier this year He in Vitel O and other than that He's been fine. He is not the problem for this organization like if for years and years They have tried to go after guys you can question how hard right it always felt like they were offering much shorter

33:30Contracts To certain guys and then they had the Carlos Carrera one fall through because of the ankle But they have tried to get guys they ended up getting one it cost them Kyle Harrison we get it um Was tib's also in that deal by the way I can look right now. I got it. Yeah, he's up Tib's in one of the deals. I know. He was traded. Yes, it was tib's it was Jose Bayo James tib's the third Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks Okay, there you go. So they did give up a lot to get him no question But that's sometimes what you have to do if you're gonna swing and miss in free agency He once again he's in his 20s. He's not gonna be the problem moving forward Yes, he starts making 33 million next year. That's a big chunk of change But you're paying for delivery You know the guy's going to deliver big numbers He has hit the most homers in a season since Barry bonds hit 45 back in 2004

He was born in Russia. He talked about his love of baseball. This is great So I went to their match last year. I lost first round So I had a lot of time to practice and stuff like this and the last day before leaving to New York I'm like actually to my to my team back at the time was Jill Let's go watch some baseball and I absolutely loved it It was actually a great match with two extra innings and they lost unfortunately, but the atmosphere was crazy because it was Saturday So on weekdays, it's a bit less, but I do know at the time. So I came on Saturday lucky day I guess I was like this is so cool and I know that in New York with a grand slam

43:54You're not gonna have time when we're playing young wells etc It's not the season yet. So I have to be a Cincinnati fan. So every year I come there I'm gonna have so much fun watching them and they were the first team I watched the first team I supported during this match I was like it's a good story to support them And I actually really liked the sport the way it plays. I enjoy watching it. I feel interested watching it And so yeah, I watched I tried to watch all their matches I love that he's a Cincinnati Reds fan You know, it's funny that I had no idea about this and he's my favorite tennis player And he's not a lot of people's favorite tennis player because he's kind of like the bad boy like get under your skin type of guy But that's exactly why I like him and I've seen him play. I saw him in Indian wells before and That's really cool. It's a great story It's a great origin story for a family. Hey, I got knocked out of the terminus go check a ball You know, it's a great ball game and I like the fact that he's like I'm just gonna be a reds fan because I know I can go watch him play

44:55So I'm in that's that's really really cool. I'm gonna share that with Olivia as you know, she's she's playing tennis right now. Ah I dig it. I love it because unfortunately this sport does not get a ton of national press outside of Basically what we give it you know the people who really cover it closely So you don't hear that comment you'll hear it a lot about the NFL You'll hear it about the NBA. You'll hear it about some but you don't hear somebody come out nationally and say hey I'm a Cincinnati Reds fan and here's why I think We need more of that and there's a couple NBA guys that are super into baseball as well. It's like Josh Hart And who's the other guy? It's a meds fan Donovan Mitchell But his dad works for the meds. Yeah, so like When those guys say like baseball is cool that does more for the game than maybe anything Maybe anything as far as getting new fans in is like when those people say oh, yeah, baseball is awesome

45:55Too often in my opinion are we interviewing people? I'm like who's your favorite player like they're jeeter like oh, I don't watch baseball. It's like okay We don't need that like let's find these guys or at least let's prep them before we ask the questions so they have a good answer Because I really feel like that When when stuff like this happens that changes the way people proceed baseball One of the great things that happened during the 2016 World Series between the Cubs and the Guardians was when LeBron led All the calves into that suite and when Rajay Davis they were going nuts They're going nuts and Lesson they were partying their ass off god knows what they were having up there in that suite But they were there they were supporting And that's really good to see the Guardians this year because the calves played the nicks when the Guardians were in New York They all went to I believe that's here.
