It wasn't on Wednesday, but on Thursday to this week today. It's going to be Ward Wednesday on a Thursday. So that's coming up here in a matter of, oh, we'll call it 10 minutes, but first you have Brent Key that called out his football team.

2:02And I got to say, you know, from a Tennessee perspective, not necessarily what you want to hear going into that game because it's a true road game. It's in Atlanta. It's at Bobby Dodd Stadium. And you know, I did a show on Friday looking back as they play last Thursday. I did a show talking about the Georgia State game and how they look so underwhelming and how they looked kind of soft to be completely honest with you on Friday. And you know, a lot of people engage with that one and agreed and all that. And I mean, take don't lie. But when you get Brent Key up there to Tuesday press conference and his opening monologue is eight minutes long. And he's talking about how just how much his team looks soft and how that was not the team that he coached. That team's going to come out on fire, right? And that doesn't mean that Tennessee is going to lose. I still think Tennessee is going to win. I think Tennessee is going to control this football game. But I wouldn't necessarily like Tennessee going into a hornet's nest for a football team that's already coming off the loss and straight up got challenged by the said coach through the media. Brent Key was on one on Tuesday.

3:03It was back to work after the Labor Day holiday. I mean, they were already at work and all that. But the media press conference after the Labor Day holiday. And again, it was a 26 minute press conference. But the first eight minutes was an opening statement just talking about everything that's Brent Key did not like from the football game on Thursday. And you know, I got to respect it. You know, he gets up there and he essentially says you go back and you know, a lot of things I said in the post game press conference was dead on. Our football team looks soft, looked undisciplined. I hope you appreciate the transparency that I'm about to have with you guys over the course of the next, you know, a couple of minutes because I'm going to go through a bunch of the things that you guys are going to ask me questions about. So I'm going to go ahead and address a lot of this head on. I'm going to read a couple of the excerpts from his opening press conference. And again, it's pretty, pretty eye opening. So you quote, watching the film practice and whatnot and it's a particular position. Okay, you're coaching that way or you're allowing it to happen, right?

4:05And that's the same thing I look at myself for when you look at the team. And right now, look at the film. We look as if we were a poorly coach, poorly prepared, poorly disciplined, soft football team. And that was extremely black and white. And that's the way I have to be about this thing. Okay, I hope you guys appreciate the transparency that I'm about to give you guys right now. Poorly prepared, poorly coach, poorly disciplined, soft football team. Hello, how many times coach is a coach get up there and say that about anybody much less than you, of course, you wouldn't put ball to more material out there for any other team. But how many times does the coach get up there and say that about their own football team, essentially calling your football team soft. He goes on to say because I sit up here and I take full responsibility. We have four days of long meetings, film sessions, blah, blah, blah. There's an account of building that goes around here as well. He said after reviewing the tape quote, that was not Georgia Tech football. That was not the team I've been talking about for the last eight months. I think one of the first questions I got on Saturday was if you can anticipate the future

5:09of crystal ball, he said, I have extremely high. I've been extremely high on this football team. I'm still high on this football team. I'm not high on the performance that occurred. We had our fans come out, students come out who were outstanding. They stayed the whole game, blah, blah, blah. They were a bunch of troopers. Those fans staying out there to that garbage that we put on the field, so much love and much thanks. I appreciate you to our fans for coming out. We're going to need them this week as well in quote, calling the product they put on the field soft and garbage, which again, it was I was going to play the clip for you. I don't know how I've clearance to do that. So better safe than sorry. I understand it doesn't carry as much way coming from me than Brinkie himself. So hopefully we can play this at some point. But I do apologize to all the Georgia Tech, Georgia Tech fans, alumni boosters by some of the lack of discipline that took place. We talk about not talking to the team, faceless opponent, no scoreboard things such like that. They did not take place throughout the entire game. That's what the game was in a nutshell.

6:12Goes on and talks about officiating. Says he's really not going to get into that. Goes on and talk about game management. Again, into the game, settle for a 44 or 45 yard field goal there with a time out in his pocket and a minute and change. Why not take a chance and go for the sticks there on third down. He settles for a field goal. He doesn't necessarily get into all that. He said essentially we evaluate all of our decisions. And this is what we thought was best. He didn't really get into all that. He goes on to say offensive issues, defensive issues, kicking game issues. At the end of the day, we were way too conservative as a football team. That's not the plan that we went into the game with. We have talked about that and addressed that. You can't play the game conservative like that. Can't play conservative. And like everything I say, it's on me to get it corrected, to get it fixed on that's what we're in the process of doing right now. But it's not like it's wholesale changes. We got to do what we've done through the spring ball through training camp. Get back out there at the end of the day. We got to put points on the scoreboard and keep them from putting up points. He goes on to say quote, the lack of toughness showed in our football team exactly what

7:16I said after the game. The ability to run the ball and stop the run bottom line. And we didn't do either. We had the capability to we have the ability to we have the talent to and we have the scheme to be able to do that. We did not. And it was a combination of everything. But the end of the day when you don't run the football, I put it on the offensive line. That's on me offensive line coach. Myself, Mo, George, we wear it. We wear it every one of us because if you don't wear it and you're not out in front and vocal in honest about it, you got a prayer to be able to fix something or change something to get a better version or improvement this next week. It's about substitution penalties. The issue's there. It was on to say. Last little thing right here, substitution issues, playing for each other, not individualized, emotional outbursts, controlling a lot of scrimmage. I think I've hit on all of them now. So I wanted to get out in front of that clear of the room of those things because I'm

8:17sure the same things that beat me up over the last five or six days are questions that we're going to have or comments that we're going to have questions on here. Man, Brinkie essentially goes out there and calls his team soft. Calls his team a lack of maturity, a lack of accountability. Says he's high on this team. They have a ability to do all those things, but they simply did not. I love that in a head coach. Head coach is now or so coach speak. I think Josh Hoppe is a great coach. Josh Hoppe is great with the media here. He's a good person to get along with. I think he likes it here. I think he loves the fan base. Josh Hyple is good for Tennessee. Josh Hyple is never like that in front of the media. Brinkie, what he did in front of the media on Tuesday, job well done, that transparency, monologue, just going through all the things that was wrong and calling us team out, calling himself out, calling his coaching staff out, all those things. Tennessee going into this game. I don't necessarily like that.

9:18Or I like you know what I'm saying? Like that's tough. That's a tough sell because again, you're rather walking to a hornet's nest potentially, but you got a year up. You can't let all that phase you that George the tech thing and I've been saying it all week long. I think Georgia tech is going to look much better against Tennessee than it certainly did against Colorado because it did not look good against Colorado whatsoever. Couldn't run the football. Couldn't stop the run. I expect those two things to be better quickly. What he said about Tennessee asked about phase on Brandon quote look as far as the quarterback he's talented. He is talented. He's a big man standing back there can rip it. They're doing a good job. I can imagine they will continue to do a good job of putting him in position to go and make plays, but to not have to carry the whole thing. He pulls it down and he could run the thing too. He's a big Joker. You know, he's a big Joker, but the poise he has the command of the offense. He was impressive to watch really in this first game, but seeing him as a high school

10:20player coming up, you saw that everyone saw that he goes on about the matchup as far as the matchup goes. They're a good football team. They have a unique offense that poses problems and challenges. And at the same time, we've got to take advantage of what we can do and take advantage of what we can. Like a lot of teams in the country right now, they have a lot of new guys on both sides, whether it's young guys, whether it's transfers, Jim Knowles is really, really good defensive coordinator. A lot of success in the past. Hell shoot. We're going to we're just looking through statistically over the last 10 years. I was looking at yesterday and I mean just a phenomenal job from Duke, Oklahoma state, Ohio State with Penn State. He's done a great job and puts players in position to go and make plays not real complicated appearing. Then they play a really sound fundamentally sound scheme and they're fundamentally sound players. I mean, they're good, they're good players doing it. So look, it'll be a challenge for us. We're excited about it. I'm excited about it. And if anybody in this building isn't excited about it, they better go find another building to be in. So it's a good challenge. End quote. Branky on Tennessee and Tennessee starting quarterback phase on Brandon.

11:24We'll continue to break down. Branky this match up as the week goes along or tomorrow show the pregame show and all that more. But you know, Branky coming out. Call the teams off. He he wrong. How does George's tech respond and how will Tennessee be ready for that response? Because George's ex is a respondent big way in my opinion. How does Tennessee counteract that on the road in the first true star for freshmen? Tom will tell we'll see. I still like Tennessee in this football game. I think Tennessee is a much better football roster. 14:31Josh Ward, Wednesday right here on lock down balls. Josh pretty good start for Tennessee football. Yes, I know the disclaimer. We have to say a million times. Then I feel like I have to say a million more times because I just I have to you know, people. It's just firm and yet I understand just FCS firm and but still pretty impressive overall with Tennessee was able to accomplish. But the story is the quarterback true freshman phase on Brandon. I don't care who you're playing. I don't care what level it's at five touchdowns in your college debut. That's impressive stuff. Yeah, for sure. We can add the disclaimer that he did it against firmman, but then we could also ask, well, how come we haven't seen it happen a bunch of other times against those level opponents? So he did everything that I think Tennessee hoped he would do. That doesn't mean the performance was perfect. It was not, but that's about as good as you could hope for. I think a true freshman quarterback out there for the first time with him showing the upside him making plays with his legs and through the air hitting explosive plays down the field early in the second half.

15:32And I think it's more about the composer, the confidence, the command and maturity that Faeson Brandon has with his game. He will face adversity. He will make mistakes this season. We know that's going to come. But I expect upperclassmen to make mistakes in college football. Faeson Brandon is unlike most freshmen. Faeson, I know there's not any lasting takeaways. It's only game one, but based on his demeanor, his poise, big, big tests for him this week at Georgia Tech going on the road. First time playing in front of a crowd. I think communication with his offensive lineman with his receivers is going to be paramount. How do you think he's going to fare in an environment that sure is not going to be like Tiger Stadium or Brian Dindy or Ben Hill Griffith or whatever. But it is going to be his first shoe road game. And this will be the most hostile environment he's ever played in in his life. Yeah, I think he'll do well. I think Josh Hypool and Joey Haulsley will have a good plan to try to help him early on. I thought early on against Furman, no matter the opponent, getting him into some kind of rhythm early where he could find success more easily was a really good thing.

16:36They could have taken some shots down the field right away. And maybe they would have connected and maybe he could say, hey, I threw a NADR touchdown pass in my opening drive. It's Tennessee's quarterback. It's easier to get the ball out quickly, get the chains moving, get the offense moving. They did score early and Ethan Davis, by the way, is going to be a great red zone target for him. There are going to be a number of different ways that Bayzon can succeed. I think it'll probably make plays with his legs again. The acceleration he has to go with his size is going to be problematic for opposing defenses. I also expect there'll be times where the offense struggles or has a difficult time finding success. That's the way it's going to go and power conference games against just about anybody. The athleticism he has, the ability to hit explosive plays. Last week or the week before Mario Chris Ball was doing an interview with ESPN, Chris Ball is Miami's coach. And one of the trends he talked about was the importance of being able to hit explosive plays. It's more important than ever if teams are seeing less possessions at times. The ability to hit plays down the field is crucial.

17:39And I think we'll probably see one or two of those this weekend. I mean, it was clearly different. I think Tennessee's offensive line, which I tracked it when phase on Brandon was on the field. So the first team offense, if you will. And some of these guys play with the second team offensive line. I get that. But nine series, six of those were a different combination. So six different combinations on the offensive line throughout the first nine series of the football game. You're not going to do that. At least Lord helped me. I hope you don't do that. I sound it so Southern there. Lord helped me. But you better not do that against Georgia tag. But you know, if you're ever going to do that, Furman's the opponent to do that. So having said that clearly, the offensive line did settle in, but it was bad first quarter. Okay. For a number of different reasons. You're starting center didn't play. How big of a deal is it to have San Pendleton? You would assume for this football game knowing you're going on the road for a communication aspect for young quarterback, but also that offensive line all told Southern play very well against Furman. They got to have a better day. Yeah. I would think Pendleton returning, if he does start will help if communication was an issue with a freshman or a, excuse me, a second year player, soft more at center.

18:42Well, getting a guy that ran the offense last year at that position should help. Does not mean everything will be fixed. The issues that David Sanders showed in the early part of the game can't happen against quality opponents. It shouldn't happen in Furman, by the way. But it just can't happen in big games because one way that Georgia Tech will try to even up the gap that exists. There's a gap going in. Tennis is a better football team. Tennis is a more talented football team. But if an opposing defense is able to get after a quarterback and force him into mistakes, force turnovers, then they give themselves a shot to win the game. Well, that's what the Yellow Jackets are going to try to do. They're going to try to get after phase on Brandon, confuse him, and see if they can take the football away, see if they can knock him to the ground. The offensive line and how Tennis's offense protects him because it's the offensive line, the tight ends, the running back obviously will play a role. But the offensive line, it needs to be better. It doesn't mean anybody needs to be panicking after the first game. I wouldn't say that at all. But considering last week on the Joe Moore Award podcast, they were talking about Tennis

19:47is a tier one SEC offensive line. It wasn't that on Saturday. So it needs to be better. Defense, you're supposed to dominate in a game like this, front seven. You're supposed to dominate in a game like this. I have no clue about the secondary. They were flying around making tackles. TGMAT cap was everywhere, but they were never tested through the air. That'll change this week. Overall takeaways defensively from what you saw. At least personnel wise, I mean, I was charting the personnel. Tennis see with the, again, an in quotation marks. So the first team defense out there, 19 snaps out of a three three personnel, 15 snaps out of a four two personnel, and then three snaps out of a four three personnel, which I thought was pretty intriguing. Yeah, the three three personnel. It's a four two lug. It's a linebacker set up on the end. It's, well, we've heard all off season go to your strengths, play those linebackers, and that's at least what Jim Noles did in game number one. Yeah. Now, Ariane Carter joins that conversation. And he's somebody that they'll be able to use. So I think we saw an early sign of the versatility that we've heard about with Tlander, with

20:49Carter coming back and what they can do. And I think they're going to make plays on this defense this year. Now they still will probably have some issues. I think coming out of the game, there will be conversations about not allowing run lanes to open as Georgia Tech is going to try to run the football with its with its running backs. And they were disappointed with how they played up front against Colorado. That's that was the big talking point from Brent Key at his press conference. There's being a more physical football team. He jokingly said Josh Hypo was being nice and calling his team physical because they weren't last week. They're going to try to change that. Not allowing the running game for Georgia Tech to quarterback to get out and run. And I don't know how much Mendoza will be trying to do that in this game. But if an opportunity presents itself at the straight line to pick up a first down, he'll take that. I'm confident. So those kinds of issues that would allow Georgia Tech to convert a third and seven when Tennessee is trying to get off the field and all of a sudden Georgia Tech picks up a first down has some momentum and is able to put together a drive.

21:49Georgia Tech was so underwhelming offensively last week. And I sure Tennessee saying, Hey, we can go take advantage of it. And I think Tennessee probably will. But let's see, you want to avoid mistakes. You want to make plays and I think Tennessee's going to have a good chance to do that. I expect hearing on Carter to have a pretty darn good game. He doesn't lack for motivation, but this is his first game. He's been one of the big talking points for Tennessee to start the season with the suspension and then the very positive story this week with how he's giving back this season to turn that negative into a positive, but make no mistake. Aaron Carter on the field is a highly motivated player. It's one of the best linebackers in the SEC. He'll probably show that this week. I love Josh Hyde. But when asked about that and in Monday's press conference at the very end, he's like, Oh, yeah, and the number figure there. It's kind of keeps the story alive. He can't even hold back a smile. Yes. A $427 for every tackle. Well, again, if you haven't heard the story, phenomenal story, $427 for every tackle for every on Carter, that was the amount that that flight that he got suspended for was when

22:52he was declared for the NFL draft that he paid back. Yeah. And if I can just say quickly, I'm so impressed with how Tennessee's handled that situation because the suspension, I think, was absurd. The idea of suspending him over a $427 flight was preposterous. We've covered that. And I know there was the there was the idea. There was the talk, not just from fans, but even national media of just playing in a way. And I totally get that idea, but I just don't think that would have been the smart approach by Tennessee. I think what Tennessee did was smart. One, they got it down to one game. So it ends up not being a big deal. It has no influence on what happens with the season, but they made him the captain. So Aaron Carter's presence, even when he's unfairly suspended, was still felt out there. So they send that kind of message of, hey, he was wrong, but this is who he is to us. He's our loan representative because he's a leader of this team. And then what he does off the field to turn that number $427, which is nothing in today's NIO world of what players are making, including Arianne. And he gives that back.

23:52And that's going to raise more money and more attention. Everything that Tennessee has done to handle this. And the way Josh Hyple spoke about Arianne at the start of camp, I think was so well done by UT. No doubt couldn't agree more. Last thing Josh, as we do, Ward Wednesday on a Thursday this week, you mentioned it a moment ago. You talked about it on the radio yesterday. And Brink, he's post game press conference too, but his month or his earlier this week price guy, I guess it was Tuesday press conference, eight minute monologue to opening remarks to kind of get underway. And he just he took accountability for the loss. He called his team soft. He said coach, he called out his coaches, called out himself, called out his team. He went through about every single avenue. And he says, I think you guys are going to appreciate the transparency I'm going to give you here. And a reporter I absolutely do, pretty eye opening stuff there. Brink, he's clearly not happy with how his team performed and kind of, I would almost go along the ways of saying kind of shocked, you know, seeing that in real time, seeing it on tape, just how again his words not mine soft, that football team wants.

24:56So you've got motivation. I think Arianne Carter is going to be motivated. I think Georgia Tech all told is going to be pretty motivated on Saturday. Yeah, sure. My expectation is that Tennessee will go down there and play well and will win the football game and probably win by multiple scores. But Tennessee's mindset cannot be, hey, this is an easy team to go play. They were soft against Colorado. That's what Georgia Tech is. Tennessee's mindset has to be that Georgia Tech is a tough football team that they will respond because what Brink, he said, I thought was well done and that he called his team soft, but he said it was the coach's responsibility. And the coaches were to blame for why they played that way. He kept going back to the why did they struggle with this? He did not question their ability. He did not question whether they can respond this week. And he said his expectation is that his team will play more physical, that their mindset will be better. They'll get the first step, not the opponent. And that's where they need to make some changes. So they he was transparent at the press conference, like it sounds like they were in film sessions

25:59over the last few days. Again, I think Tennessee's the better team and will be the better team on Saturday. Josh Hypo means it when he talks about what Brink, he's team is capable of being when he calls them a physical team. It's because he's telling his team, you better be ready along the line of scrimmage because if Georgia, if Georgia Tech is closer to what Brink, he thought his team was 10 days ago, well, then it's going to be a hard football game to win. No doubt Tennessee and Georgia Tech on Saturday, seven o'clock. And of course, we'll have post-con coverage for you right here on lockdown. Voluz, Josh, appreciate as always, man. Thanks so much. I went back and even watched the Texas game against Ohio State last year. Now it was the first game of the year. You know, a lot of things change, but going back, Texas was the better team. They just got in the red zone specifically inside the 10 and the play calling by Steve

29:06Starkeeson and the execution was absolutely horrendous. They outstatted Ohio State 336 to 203. Usually when you correlate that, the score should have been something like maybe Texas 20, Ohio State 7 to 10. Instead it was Ohio State 147. Here's what I see now with Texas. I think that as long as Steve Starkeeson just doesn't choke, he has the weapons in the red zone to be able to score much easier. So last year, their number one receiver was Wingo. Wingo when he was matched up against the number one cornerback just couldn't do much for Ohio State. Now you add Cam Coleman and he's the number one guy, 6th to 3, great in the red zone. And you make Wingo your number two and he even looks better this year a little bit quicker and thought his routes were better.

30:09He's going up against the 2 or 3. They're going to have a little bit of an advantage and then I think Hollywood's mother's no one nationally really knew who he was because he played for NC State but he has a great move when he's one on one with defenders. He's able to plant and make that first guy miss most of the time. So he might, if he has a big game, he gains 120, 140 yards. He could be in the Heisman race there if there are more of a running team but I think Ohio State's kind of similar to last year. Obviously, Julie and Sand, Jeremiah Smith are incredible. Not sure if they have a second or a third weapon there and I think Texas actually might even be better in the trenches here. I like Texas. I think they win and cover 27, 21. They finally get over the hump. If not the most talented roster in the country, it's top two, top three. I mean, Texas is absolutely loaded. Let's get back into the SEC. Missouri, a five and a half point favorite versus Kansas. Look really, really good in the opener. But again, you know, didn't play anybody.

31:11Right. I think that Kansas made the right choice going with the young quarterback. Mallor was just not a player, you know, that takes you to the next level. Might be a little bit of growing pains with him. Here's the thing about Missouri. They beat teams that they should be able to beat. They just can't beat the big boys. Never pull off the big upsets. And I know that Kansas fans will be fired up. It's the board of war, you know, this and that. But they just don't have the type of talent. I think that Missouri's offensive defensive lines will have some trouble against the better teams, but against someone like Kansas doesn't get top recruits on the defensive line. I think they should have their way. I think they win this game, something like 31 to 20. The biggest spread in the games we're picking here today, A&M 14, 14 points favorite against Arizona State. So I think A&M is still under the radar. Their defense. No one talks about it. They just shut down. Missouri State team last week. Think that they're really good and I think read except for the last two games was exceptional.

32:15The one weakness is they got to decide on a bell cow running back. They have returning guy to freshman. They're going to have to decide between those three what the order is going to be. But you see the chemistry that he's got with his top two receivers. It's really good here. I think they pull away. I think they win this game, something like 37 to 17. You know, in a game that I think had a lot more juice a week ago before Michigan looked like that and you know, got to win. I didn't deserve to get a win in my opinion. It's Western Michigan, Oklahoma, Michigan. I think this game has got a lot less juice now just based on that performance. But Oklahoma, five and a half point favorite on the road of Michigan. How do you see this playing out? So I have a test before the game, Michigan game was played. The line was Michigan minus one and a half. That was the look ahead line. Wow. Now it's five and a half. Oklahoma. The Sooners offense scored on all eight times. They had the ball first eight times. So John Matier 100%. Finally, he was probably operating at like 65, 70% last year.

33:17You just, when you're coming back from a, you know, a fractured figure. We're not talking about dislocated figure. Fractured finger, depth of surgery on this. Just too tough in your throwing hand. Sooners defense last year was like top five and almost every major statistical category like expected per play attempt yardage. I think they're going to be that good again. They're front seven here. So I don't think we're going to see a highway robbery like last week. They're not going to be able to get away with the highest here. But I think Oklahoma wins by two touchdowns 27, 13. Well, that's something last week. That was crazy. We're going to do Tennessee here because I'm going to say the last one for your game of the week. Tennessee, of course, Furman, look great. Did exactly what I was supposed to do. George Attack, look like dog. Do do against Colorado. Tennessee 12 and a half favorite on the road of Bobby Dodd. How do you see this point out here for the big orange? So I thought that Tyree withersby is, I mean, the kid that has a burst off the edge.

34:18You need the, if you're going to be good, you have to have a good quarterback, can't have a good defensive line. You have those two. You're going to stay in a lot of games. And I thought withersby has a burst. Could be a stud. I'm going to have a good pressure. And then the sophomore knows tackle slash defensive tackle. Xavier Gilliam. Wow. I mean, he's got three or four different rushes. He comes over from Penn State. He's a monster. So everyone talks about the quarterback, but yeah, Brandon looked great, but the defensive line, which is going to keep him in games against the big boys look really good also here. So I think that I think Tennessee is probably going to win this game. There's the crazy thing about Georgia Tech and people who played them last year as a favorite. If you play them as a favorite, you're going to lose a lot of money. Their offensive line is not good. Maybe they get a little bit better here. Alberto Mendoza, kind of like he's a, I don't know, what you would call him, but he's not as good as his brother.

35:19Fernando Light maybe we'll call him. I think he's going to be better in his second game. It looked like he had the jitters or center. He had some bad snaps. I think Tennessee wins this game. I think they're just flat out better than Georgia Tech, but I don't like to lay near two touchdowns here. I think Tennessee wins this game, something like 30, 34, 25. You'd take that certainly any, any win against quality opponent with a true freshman starting quarterback first time on the road. That's a big deal. Game of the week. This one I think you get dicey. I think this one can get dicey for sure. Alabama, it's in and a half point favorite on the road at Kentucky. Game of the week, of course. You can call into yourself a paramount sports. It's a free game, free game of the week. Kentucky, Alabama, Alabama, 10, a half point favorite. Just call 800, 400, 97, 412, freshman quarterback. This Alabama's talent just going to be too much to the role or Kenny Minchi, another freshman quarterback and Kenny, keep it close from maybe pull the shocker 800, 400, 97, 4,
