Hello Brian. How you doing? Hey Bob, how are you? Good. Now you have never been a big fan of teams blowing their brains out at the trade deadline, right? You know why? Because I checked. Yeah, I know the answer to this. There's plenty of the only awarding one Stanley. I know it's, you know, it's hilarious.

2:03We have people that sit there and cast a spurs. You know, look, you know, all Connor has a one and Leon has a one. And I'm like, they went to a seventh and sixth game of Stanley Cup finals and back to back. Oh, Connor is not a winner. He scored in overtime in the foreign Asians. He was the best player, best skater at the Olympics. He just ran in a corner. Hello. Hello. It's just, it's there is only one team that wins the Stanley Cup, right? Brian. And there's 32 and counting the 32 teams. And the least they'll expand on telling you it's coming. It shouldn't come, but it's coming. So great work. Was a great player hockey. Hall of Fame. Stanley Cup winner. Eric said and told me before he won the cup, he said, you telling me that Ray Bork hadn't left and gone to Colorado and won a cup. They wouldn't be in the hockey Hall of Fame. He said, that's on me. Me as a GM. I didn't put enough good players around Ray Bork.

3:05But Ray never always did the Stanley Cup. And then he got to Colorado and won the cup and it met the world. But the orders beat the Bruins twice in 88 and 90 in the Stanley Cup final. When Bork was, you know, he was a 10 year pro eight and 10 year pro by that point, generally regarded as the best defenseman in the league. And Paul Coffey in 88 and 90 had moved on. He was no longer with Edmonton. Brian Burke for ultra shine. So Brian, Stan Bowman got ahead of it this week. Multiple teams were in on Conor Murphy. Edmonton gave up a second in 2028, which has about a 20% chance of playing more than 150 games in the NHL. And probably a second round pick in 28 couldn't help the orders until 32, 33. That's right, 20, 32, 20, 33. So he gets Conor Murphy half retained by Chicago for his second round pick. Very good defensive defenseman and a good penalty killer. The orders PK stinks. Then he gets the divest himself of Andrew Majapani, who struggled here.

4:05And Andrew was a pro. He just had a crappy year. The orders get out of the extra year on Andrew Majapani with his Chicago black arcs. Give up a conditional number one. Get one of the best third line centers in the NHL Jason Dickinson. And a prospect, you know, young forward, that Stan Bowman drafted Colton Doc. The orders come into tonight's game. Ron, I'm going to read you. Or Brian, I'm going to read you the numbers. Edmonton comes into the game tonight. 26 and penalty killing 25th and goals against. Okay. They're not going anywhere unless they can shave that down a bit. What do you think of the additions of Dickinson, a third line center and Murphy, a second pairing, right shot defenseman who are part of the best penalty killing unit in NHL in Chicago? Well, I'll leave Doc out of it because it's too early to say whether he'll have an impact or not. But the other two, I had Toronto Murphy played for me in the World Championships for a team you ought to say. What a great kid. What an effective penalty killer. A shot blocker.

6:05Physical presence. Great kid. And same with the other guy. They're going to be just fine. The team is better today than they were before the two deals. Your old team, the Calgary Flames, sent Nazum Cadbury back to the Colorado Avalanche. I was a little bit surprised at Murray Edwards is going to retain 1.4 million times three more years on Cadbury. They got a conditional number one and number two. Given that Chris McFarland who used to work for Scott Housen in Columbus, Chris McFarland went out and got Nicola Law. Leaves did not retain on that. Got Nicola Law. Great third line center roll. Wait. Now Nicola Law is the fourth line center because they got McKinnon's first line center, Nelson's second line center. Cadbury is third line center and law at fourth line center. That is going to be a challenge to get through, isn't it? That's going to be a really good line. My challenge to Nicola, who I like, I think he got it.

7:05He's got to crank it up a little bit. He plays at that same level as his play in Toronto. He's not going to help them. I think he will. Yeah. Because his players know that he'll crank it up there. No questioner better off. Yeah. You know, I was a big Nicola fan from his time in Vegas and I repeatedly said on the show going back three months. I thought the orders needed a big right shot center. That's Nicola Law. The end of the day, Emmett and also needed a team to retain. And Brad Trayliving did not retain. He tree worked for you in Calgary. He ended up getting a first round draft choice for Nicola. He got a second and a fourth for Bobby McMahon. And he got a conditional third that could become a second if the LA Kings make the playoffs from Ken Holland and the LA Kings. So he moves out three players. What do you think of that body of work from Brad Trayliving? Well, I think if you're selling it's a good piece of work. I don't think people in Toronto are sold on the concept of being sellers at this point.

8:07So he made good deals on all three of those players for me. But they don't have players for a place in right now. So the step backwards, the necessary step backwards. I like the deal. But there's still going to be some criticism. Brian Burke joining us for Ultra Shine. Brian, you worked in the agency's title of business. You negotiated against agents for years. The St. Louis Blues have come out and they say, it's not us. We did not leak out Colton Paraco's name in a trade. I'm looking at this going, okay. There's no way Buffalo did because the last thing Buffalo wants is word out there that a player turned down the trade. And there's no way the agency leaks it out. I'm trying to figure out who exactly leaked it out. But what is your thought process on, you know, you give really good players, traditionally really good players, not average ones. And some might argue the orders have given out too many no movement clauses to average players.

9:07But Paraco helped those guys win a cup. He's been a, you know, he was on team Canada at the Olympics. It is his prerogative to turn down a deal if you give him a no movement clause, isn't it? Absolutely. 100%. And he had the right to say no. I have no problem with that. But the notion that that many people are going to know on behalf of two teams that they're contemplating a trade. And the word's not going to get out as absurd. It has to get out. There's no way to keep it quiet from probably 20 people knew this too many. They did shake things up in St. Louis. Doug Armstrong, in his last go round in St. Louis, of course, Alex Dean has taken that job over. I wonder where Doug Armstrong ends up. I guess upstairs is present. Anyhow, Justin Falk got moved to the Detroit Red Wings and Braden Shen gets moved to the New York Islanders and St. Louis got a pair of number ones.

10:07Are number ones overvalued, Brian? It depends on where they are. People talk about number ones like they're all the same. You break them into thirds. One third of the first round picks. Second third of the first round picks. Third third of the first round picks. The disparity between the number that play percent is that play. It goes from like 15 to 20 percent to that top 10. Like 30 to 40 percent that don't play. The 80 percent that don't play. Like it drops dramatically. And the notion that we got three second rounders. Well, where are they? Where are they in the draft? The second round can be 33, or it can be 55 or whatever it is. Where are they? No, I don't buy that. Let's see where they are. Who's the favorite right now? Too early to tell? Or is Colorado the favorite? Colorado. Yeah. Go away.

You have any fun with all of the stuff that was occurring over the course of this last week?

15:13It was busy. They made more moves than I thought they were going to make the Oilers dead. So, yeah, I thought it was an okay to good week for us, Dan Bowman. Now, did you? I noticed you just put something out that somebody was scarring and grading who was breaking the most. And Elliott Friedman won the day there. Did you happen to listen to Wednesday's show at all during the course from like 345 until the end of the show? I've listened to almost all the shows, Bob. So, you know, they all kind of blurred together, but I think I did. Yeah. Well, if you listen closely, you might have been able to figure it out. Would you call me the Master of What? Some reference to the Game of Thrones Master of Whispers or something like that. That's what it was. Having some fun. All right. Tell me what you think. What do you think of the additions of Murphy coming over Monday for a second round pick in 2028? Dickinson and Doc for a, you know, first round pick, which is lottery protected in 2027.

16:19And the order is dumping and remind Japan in the process. The starting point for this, Bob, is this was always a tough year for the oiders because of the cap. They hit their top four players, like the percentage they take of the cap this year. This is high, I think, as it's ever going to be. And it's hard to win the cup when you have your top four players taking so much of your salary cap close to 50%. So huge challenging year for a stand moment. The fact that the four top, well, at least three of the four top salary players and the orders are really, really good help. So with that constraint in mind, I think, you know, he brought in a couple goalies this year. You can argue about those trades, but I thought they had to happen. He brought in a defenseman, which I thought was the top need. And Connor Murphy, by all accounts, is kind of like an Adam Larson. Ish defenseman, a big rugged defensive defenseman on the right side who can penalty kill.

17:23And that was the main need. And he addressed it. He also was able to address moving out of tough contracts in Magiapani. And bringing in a really, I think, a useful player. And again, with all these players coming in, I haven't watched them closely like a scout would. Or someone who's really on top of things, so my opinion, you know, it's not really credible. It's just kind of based on impressions that I've seen Dickinson over the years. But I've always been impressed with him. He moves well. He checks well. He's aggressive and, you know, they need Bob to fix their defense. And they took some steps towards doing it. My one concern is you recall last year, the trade deadline floor to picked up Brad Martian. Yeah. The last moment. And it just felt like a stab to the heart. And that's what you're feeling about now is him. I got the same feeling today, Bob, with the now is him can't really like that hurt. Because that's a he's a good hockey player. He's a veteran. You see, you know, he's older, but so is Martian, but he's he's still really good. And that can make a huge difference to Colorado.

18:23And that's what it is. The Colorado has to run the gauntlet of the wild and Dallas. And hopefully they'll all beat the hell out of each other. And whoever wins. The on the Edmonton side of things. We'll be in position to face a team that's been through the ringer. David, final question and it pertains to a stat I throw today. Too low a save percentage is five on five in the NHL or Vegas and Edmonton. Does anything better explain why Vegas and Edmonton aren't further up in the overall standings and that statistic? Nothing does. Doiders as a team are not have not been committed to playing sound defensive hockey this year. And they've had iffy goal tending, but it's really on the team. They are not doing what it takes to protect leads to. Stop the other team from scoring when you really need them to stop. They have been unable to do that.

19:24And it's not a good signal for the Oilers that it hasn't happened yet. But it's not too late. They've got 20 games left to prove it. Let's see if they can do it. David, great stuff.
