Who's the man sitting there starts the fire? Spin. Oh, the blue pickles. down upon the underworld, just mashed ganglins, comes a friend of the unfortunate enemy of criminal. In its areas, our powerful characters are problem to the police, but a crusade of a law, in reality, Dan Garrett, a rookie patrolman, loved by everyone but suspected by none of being the blue people. As the blue beehive hides behind the strange maps in a suit of imperatable blue shade armor, flexible as silk, but scarier than steel.
Today's episode of the Blue Beetle is entitled The Invisible Ghost. The Tronon Dan Garrett, who in secret operates as the blue beetle, today matches brains and wrong with a cowardly ruthless gang of crooked slot machine racqueteers. Can he strike their plans to flood the city with crooked gambling devices? We'll be able to uncover the mysterious leader who directs their activities. What is behind our endeavour to install a machine that joined our economy? As our story opens, the Tronon Dan Garrett is visiting his old friend and advisor, Dr. Plantz. Danny, I've been studying upon slot machines. Yes, you find out anything interesting? Well, I'm convinced that the difference between an honest machine and a dishonest or crooked machine is very slight. In fact, I'd say the difference was purely academic. What do you mean, Doc? Of course, you realize I'm referring now to Michael and Dime or Quaver in the slot machines from which you'll return if any will be ahead full of cordial. That doesn't include bending machines from candy, chewing gum, filler, etc. Oh, no, no, of course not. I'm speaking about those machines where
you put a coin in the slot, push down the lever, and pictures of fruits or birds or playing cards, roll around and stop in different combinations. Yeah, I understand. Well, if certain combinations come up, a certain number of coins will be returned to you. Sometimes as many as 30 may come up. That's called a jackpot. I know. I think that a boy is on the first play the machines in Charlottes of Garthor. And how often do they hit the jackpot? I don't know. Not often, I'm sure. Precisely. Those machines are fixed in advance to release a jackpot every once every thousand, five thousand, ten thousand. Yes, even every hundred thousand times. In other words, if you were the only one playing the machine, you would have to put in one thousand or more coins before you'd win the jackpot. You know, the Michelopiece, that's fifty dollars. Fifty dollars to win, two dollars. All right, there must be a null of profits in those machines. Yes, there is. Now, let's suppose the machines these racqueteers are trying to install are reasonably honest. Say, one thousand to one. So, with its average, you know, in a place like John Doors Carnival, each machine should
average two thousand players a day. Let's say, ten machines were installed throughout the area. You know, that's conservative. Yes, yes, I know. But let's be conservative. Ten machines would get a play of twenty thousand players a day. And the average amount spent on such machines is about twenty cents per person. No, but one hundred thousand nickels at one thousand to one ratio. The machines would pay back one hundred jackpots or about two hundred dollars. Yes, but the intake would be four thousand dollars. Precise them. In case four thousand dollars, I'll go two hundred dollars. And put that operator's will go to any means to make profits like that. Just a minute, then. I'll see who it is. Okay. Hello, Doc. Is the pride of the police force here? If you mean the Roman damn garrity, he's waiting for you, Madigan. Well, Mike, the car outside here. Are you ready, Daddy? Ready and waiting. So long, Doc. Those crooked slot machine operators are going to get a big surprise when they run up against officer Manigan and the full man damn garrity. Come on, Manigan. Let's go. Off on specialist assignment, they damn garage and officer Manigan in the police car. What
is their destination? What will they find when they get there? Would it be a simple routine clean up job or a little bit of half the swing interaction? Within ten minutes, the police car bearing damn garrity and Mike Manigan is pulling up inside the gates of John Doris Connolly. Well, here we are at the Connolly. Where do we head for? Now let's look around. Okay, Daddy. This car has been parked ahead of the Stopey and Dinosaur. It's part of a dollar. That's down the Kippie down to the baseball. Trying to run up these lights. Maybe you should give it a die. Come on here. Get right up. I used to play baseball with the Brooklyn flag lovers, but I could try your hand about that for me. I think they win. I think they win. I think they win. I think they win a few K-dars for my youngsters. I think they win. They're right up here. They're right up there. Ready? Yeah. Three baseball first. Yeah. I can hear them bars. I'm sure you're what real pitching is. Got to see the tenants. The yard. One, two, three. And we are done. Thank you, tenants. Careful of your arm, Luke.
Luke, tenants, mannequin. Remember you're an old man. Oh, yeah. No, no, no. Cut out the kid and then watch this. Hey, better look out, fella. My father is cross-eyed. Look, keep it up. Down away. Oh, one. Oh, that was just practice. Now watch this one. Oh, two. My sewing mannequin. Oh, the sun was in the eyes. But watch this one. What the hell? Hey, are you Kippie down? Why are you good, mannequin? You hit the proprietor right in the old conks. You sure know you're Kippie down. What happened? Where's the car? It's a cloud around the fence. Come on, look, look, look. Hey, look, look. What's happening? What's happening? What's happening? I can't focus on this. Everybody's hurt. Come on. I'll get back everybody. I'll get back. I'll get back. I'll get back. I'll get back. All right, get back. I'll get back. Come on. Get back. What happened, door? Are you all right? I guess so. I'm terrible. Well, on the years I was sitting at my desk here. Wait a minute. I'll have mannequin call about to you.
Maybe city's ready. No, no, no, no. Don't call a doctor. I'll be all right in a minute. Here, I'll get you some water from the cooler. Oh, fine. What caused the pole to fall? Oh, I don't know. Maybe one of the ribs holding it up brought it through and broke. Or was cut. Here. Drink this. Thanks. Oh. That's good. I'll see you better now. Have those crooked slot machine rackets here have been working on you? slot machine rackets here? No. No, I'm not sure they had nothing to do with this. Mm-hmm. Any of them been out to talk with you recently? Well, uh... Yeah. When? Last night. Any trouble? Well, we had a few words. They want to be to put some of their machines in. And you refused? Yes. Did I threaten you? Oh, in a jungle sort of way. What you know, it's not she's under words. Come on out. They talk, big, but most of them it's blood. Yes, yes, I know, but sometimes... Hello, Johnny.
Oh, hello, Mr. Dawes. Hello, man. Again, what happened? I'll tell you going back in the police car. Okay, Johnny. Mr. Dawer. You better have a couple of your men you can trust. Act as a bodyguard. Do like and get the men from the police department assigned to you. In the meantime, we're going to track down this gang of crooks and put them where they can do no more harm. Come on, man. Back to headquarters. At least headquarters, commission it down way up on hearing Dan's story. What a full speed ahead and a drive to round up the crook and slot machine racketeers. Late that night, Dan Garrett, as in secret conference with Dr. Franz at his little apopacary shop. No, I got a hunch that there is going to be something doing at a time. I've seen something doing at a time of the night after the crowd has gone home. I suppose the blue beetle will be buzzing around out there. Right. And probably nipping, too. Look how he doesn't get nipped himself. Not a chance. At least not permanently. Not for this blue beetle costume and mask.
This blue beetle chain armor has saved my life many times. A long time on the alert, nobody can overcome the blue beetle. I hope you'll always be on the alert, Danny. I'd hate to lose you. Are you a swell friend, Doc? I owe my life to you. And this chain armor you made me. I know that you're on something else that will be as great help to you, I believe. In your crusade against crime. What's that got? A fluid that painted on your body or your suit of armor will make you practically invisible. Have you got any of it here? Yes, yes. But it isn't perfect to get what it likes. Well, you know that every optic we can see has some color to it, you know. And as long as that color is in the color spectrum, the human eye can see the object. Yes, but if the object is some shade outside the color spectrum, it is invisible to the human eye. You see, in this liquid you're working on, outside that color band. Then if I painted myself with this liquid, I'd be invisible. Yes, he is. Can't perverally. What do you mean? Well, I've got to find a fixer, something to add to the formula which will preserve the invisible qualities of the fluid longer. A person, it oxidizes too quickly and becomes visible to the human eye within a few minutes.
Here, here's some of it here in this jar. Hmm, so that's very interesting. Well, if you had a perfection, I can use it on this book. Quiet, quiet. There's someone out in the front of the shop. You stay here and I'll see what is. Hello, hello, anybody home? That's all I need. Hello, hello, officer Manigan. And what brings you here at the Sauer? Oh, I was passing by and you started dropping. Is Danny here? No, Danny's not here. Well, no, I think I'll wait a bit if you don't mind, Doc. Maybe he'll turn off. Well, I hardly think you'll find out and got it here tonight, Manigan. Hmm. By the way, have you seen the blue beetle around? The blue beetle. You mean the fantastic character who's always out withing the police? Yeah, he won't out with him forever. Someday I'm going to catch up with that baby and when I do... If you'll excuse me, I have to... By the way, Doc, some neighbors of yours was telling me they've seen the blue beetle in this neighborhood late at night. What? Would you be no one anything about that?
Well, I really go up at night. I spend most of my time in my laboratory. Is that it, Doc? That's right, Doc. Yes, yes. I never saw one of them things. You mind if I take a look at all of them? Well, I thought you were... You see, I've made some expected things. I won't touch anything, Doc. I just want to know. Well, you're right. Where's the van? What is it? What do you see? Hmm. Sure, that's a laboratory. What a place he is. Yes, that's a laboratory. It must be great to have brains like you, Doc. Well, so long I've got to be gone, Doc. Tell Danny I was in. Yes, because I will, Managan. Good night. And keep your eyes open for the blue beetle. Danny, Danny, what are you? Right beside you, Doc. Yes, when I heard Managan outside, I quickly caught him myself with a new formula. When he looked into the laboratory, I was standing right in front of him. Really? Well, that certainly was a great test. But the effects are beginning to went off. I can see a slight tinge of the blue of the blue beetle armor shining through.
Hey, Doc, I've got to be on my way. I'd like to take some of this liquid along with me and use it tonight. All right, Danny. All right there. But be careful. Remember the effects stayed away quickly. Thanks, Doc. Say those racquet tears will get the surprise of their lives when they hear the blue beetle but can't see them. You better hurry, Danny. It's about closing time for the carnival. Yeah. Now the blue beetle will have to really light the night wind tonight. What will the blue beetle do over a John Doors carnival? Will you run head-on into a band of flat-wishing crooks? Can he again make himself invisible with Dr. Fran's magic formula? On through the night speed the blue beetle and his fast motorcar.
As he hears the carnival he pocks his car in the hidden spot and approaches John Doors' tent on foot. So you won't sign up, eh? No. Not for any crook or skins like yours. Okay, it's your funeral, Doc. We're kind of pretty. Do, do, do. How about it, Doc? Yes, it's still not. Give it to him again, Fenty. Do, do, do. So you won't sign, eh? But it's about the same. Whoa! The blue beetle. Yes, the blue beetle. Oh, there is no blue beetle here. It's a trick. Good, get a phonograph plan and some private soul. Well, here's something planted and it wasn't the phonograph. So, hey, Fenty, what is this? We are doing a no-ah, I do not do. Maybe you can see stars. Come on, come on, let's get out of here before I go up meet up. I can't fight, don't wait a minute. Let me help you on your way with my foot. Now get going, both of you. Let the blue beetle ever see you again. I'll blast you wide open. Come on, Fenty.
We gotta tell a boss about this. Are you all right, Doc? I can't see you. Am I doing it? No, Doc, you're not blind. I knew it was I telling you. Home police had quarters in report, what just happened. All right. I will do it. And don't worry. The blue beetle's on the job. I'm going to trail those men, maybe they'll leave me to their hangout. I'll get going. The blue beetle's got a lot of nipping in the nose. Well, the blue beetle catches up with a thug to a beating gun, Doc. What about the invisible tank? What about the well off before the blue beetle reaches its destination? What will he find when he gets there? Out of the corner of the ground, dashed the blue beetle, just in time to see the two folks drive off in a long sedan. Generally they don't car the blue beetle gets chased. But he allows on the river road.
Those folks are taking the road to the old haunted house. That must be the headquarters. I'll have to take a chance and then visit those places wearing off. I'll pour some off the road and they'll have to stop. All right, you're welcome. I thought I'd make a snapping. It's the blue beetle. Oh, you are. I can see him now. Come on, I can't. See, time will know if I go. Come on, me hoties. I'll take your both at once. I'm the one who has the blue beetle. That's for all men, doc. That's for all men, doc. That's for all men, doc. But, tell her frankly, help her out. I'll keep him in the air. Oh, no, you won't, please. That will take care of you. Put up your head, bro. Feel her out. Clear, sir. Not tonight, you won't. Here's a faithful of knuckles for you. Well, he's done for a while. Let's see, I better not use my invisible paint. And they need a little of less to use later. How can I get into that house up there? I think I'll just take one of these farts over here and...
What are the rubies, plan? Here's the haunted house, the head flutters, and the cooking slot machine, my cataroos. Let's look here on this weird and mysterious looking place. Look through the people and see what that is, Maggie. Okay. It's Kroka and Frankie. All right, very good. I'm Carmen and it's Nathan. Okay. Hello, Steve, me and Frankie back. Yes, R.I.E. What have you two reports? Well, Frankie and me, we went to see all men do, like you told us, and we're giving the works. But he wouldn't sign up for the machines. Did you tell him to do, Xavier? Sure, boss. Why didn't you use private persuasion? We were just going to one semi-divide with a funny humming sound and crackle. No, I'm not from out of the air, a voice, what said he was a blue fetal. Told us to lay off the old man. Was it dark? No, it was light enough. But we couldn't see nobody but the old man. No, I'm doing what happened. The blue fetal started slapping us around. Very ridiculous. You must have been drunk on me, word chief. We were sober to judge. Am I right, Frankie? We. It is, as you say.
What's the matter, Frankie? Why don't you raise your head? My neck. She is hurt. A blue fetal, he hits me hard. Like I said, chief. When we couldn't see no one, a fight we beat it out of there. But the blue fetal followed us in his car. And just down the road, he forced us over the side and we had to stop. Then he rushed us in before we could plug him. He confessed his fault on a plane that we passed out. When I come to Iowa, in the car, and French, he was driving. No, no, blue fetal. He had disappeared. And likely started, OK? Suppose you step aside. I want to talk to French. Well, he'll tell you the same story. Chief, we've got to be ready. The blue fetal may be here any minute. Yeah. The blue fetal is here. What do you mean? Frankie, take off that fatten cough. He's just a blue fetal himself disguised as French. Yes, the blue fetal. And he is going very well. Blue fetal. I've got to cover it. What a way that gun. You can't injure the blue fetal. The blue fetal seems fond of appearing and disappearing.
Every tiny does appear another bunch of rats. A bop to justice. I'm happy at last I've met the blue fetal face to face. But I regret that the meeting must be so brief. I have seen you. I wish to see you tomorrow, so... Hey, don't you go, blue fetal, through the crud door into my subterranean sword. You like to chase the right, as you call it? Well, you can get your stomach full of them down there. Maybe they'll turn the table and chase you, Mr. Blue fetal. Hi. Yeah? You're in court at class at class, don't you? Sure, boss. Yeah, sure, until you say, boss. Listen to me. You'd better get there straight with no fungly. If you don't want to join the blue fetal. Not me, boss. It was Frenchies for the other time.
He didn't slip the old man high enough before the blue fetal showed up. I don't want any excuses. I want for his love for his time. Yes, boss. You go and see John Doar again. Tell him there's a grander weekend at for him if he finds up with us. If he refuses again, tell him the blue fetal is dead. Off a compulver to him by bringing him here. No easy on him this time. If I do, I get his signature to a contract to install our slot machines at the carnival, I'll bring him out here. Have you got that straight? Sure, boss. You better have. One thing more. If you don't come back with Doar's signature, or with Doar himself, you'll be pushing up daisies when spring comes round again. Listen, boss. It's a cop here. How did they find out? Stupid fool. You must have left up right in the mile, right? No, boss. Nobody told us for the role, Beto. You're right, brother. Behind that screen over there. There we have nothing on me. I'll meet them. You say that, boss. I'm going to take the table along. Right. Right around the corner.
All right, boss. Is that your gun? No, come on. Good evening, gentlemen. Calling Robert late, aren't you? The law is under job 24 hours a day. That's admirable. Is something wrong? Yes. You. Me. What have I done? Your friends have tried to kill an old man. And you were trying to install your crooked slot machines at the carnival. I'm sure you made a mistake, Sergeant. I ate a sergeant. It's playing Officer Manigan. And we ate Madenow's steak. The blue-beatered phone was 10 minutes ago. No, I know you're mistaken Officer Manigan. The blue-beater couldn't have fallen. The blue-beatered people. Yes. The blue-beatered people. It must be a ghost. The blue-beatered people are not dead. Just invisible. I don't know. It can't be. I saw him cut down. I'm trying to tell you, Manigan, that he saw me drop to my death. Through that prepped door you're standing on. How he was, I never noticed. How you get off with it? Hey, where do I go, blue-beater?
I'm here. There. Everywhere criminal tries to hide. Let me out of here. Let me out of here. Not till you confess to this crime. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm on, confess you, cook around, choke it out of you. No, no, no, no. Take me away from here. Take me to police headquarters. I confess only to the blue-beatered people go to heaven. All right, bye. Put the hand touch you. All right, Madigan. Very good work, blue-beater. Wherever you are and thanks. But John, forget. Someday I'm going to catch up with you. And when I do, I'm going to ruin your win. Just on your role, principal. That's okay with me, Madigan. But remember, you first got to catch me. So long, Madigan. Give my regards to the commissioner. And so the blue-beater broke up another racket
that was trying on unsuspecting amusement speakers. What happened when he fell through the trap door? How did he escape from his living tomb? Let's look in on Dr. Fred and Zillapurthakari's shop. Where Patronum Dan Garrett is relaxing after a springy was night. Oh, fuck a Danny boy. You sure have luck. And don't I? No, and I thought myself falling. I twisted myself so I landed on my feet. The twist must have thrown me to one side so instead of landing on the concrete floor, I landed in a fairly deep stream of water that throws under the cellars of that haunted house. Every mark of a man, wasn't it? What did you do then? Well, I let myself be carried along by the stream, keeping my head above water whenever I could. And how far did it carry you? Oh, about 500 feet underground. When I came up in the open, I quickly covered myself with your invisible paint. Rushed back to the house and entered with a police. Excuse me a minute. Someone's out front in the store. Oh, God! What's in the corner? My host has got to touch the food dear dear. I'm sorry to hear that. Just a minute.
Here you are. That will be tensets. Here's a quarter. Sing did you hear? That mysterious killer on horseback is killed in other cop. Another one? That makes the stick in his mini-dose. He is good. Thanks. Yes. Strange a police can't seem to do nothing about it. Well, here's one policeman that's going to do something about it. And right now. The police put Droneman down there. Yeah. Along doc, if mannequin calls, I'm over at police headquarters. What is this new scourge that has struck the city? Six policemen shot in one roof by a mysterious forceman. Undoubtedly a strange deadly maniac. Will the anger it run into earth? Over the take of Blue Beetles. To avenge these deaths. These questions will be answered in the next episode of the Blue Peasle. And now here's the Blue Beetle to stay a few words.
The moral of this story is that courage will often win against any and all armed. If you are right, stick to your gun through thick and thin. You'll come through somehow. All of the real leaders of our day and every human endeavor have courage. Call it nerve, bravery, whatever you will. But acquire it if you haven't already got it. And hold onto it. Or it's very, very precious. This country we live in was built on courage. The Blue Beetle is a copyrighted box feature, appearing in Mystery Men Comics magazine and the Blue Beetle magazine on sale at your newsstand. The Blue Beetle is on the air, fighting with the same situation. You can help us love to ask for your local newsspapers. And don't forget to listen into...
