Bills Playoff Odds and Drake Maye's QB Struggles

I wanted to mention it because the phone little exercise here, Benjamin Solack of ESPN, only person I've seen predicted say he thinks the bills will miss the playoffs. He posted his little NFL bracket and I'm looking through it. He's in seed Houston. You know, there's Jackson Valley. I'm looking. I'm looking. I'm looking. Where's the BUF? No, no bills. He's predicting the bills to miss the playoffs. And he later responded to my just simply noting that by saying there's a lot of good teams in the AFC. And I don't expect the bills to miss the playoffs. I'm not sure many of us do. Is it possible? Sure. I decided to look up the numbers of it. Like what are the odds that the bills miss the playoffs? Because it's a bet you can make. I'm not asking anybody to bet it. But for you guys, like what do you think the number is to miss the playoffs for the bills? Right?

2:01Miami to miss the playoffs is minus 4,000. I think it's very safe. But to miss the playoffs for the bills, you know it'd be an underdog bet. What do you think the number is? Hmm. Plus 2000? I would say 4,000 plus 4,000. I'll go. Yeah. Plus 950. Plus 280. Whoa. Plus 280. I knew it wasn't going to be that extra. Yeah. Just to give it context, well, there are odds to win the Superbola, plus 1,000. There are odds to win the AFC or plus 500. Like to miss the playoffs, it feels ridiculous. But in terms of where the books want people to bet plus 280, it's not that crazy. No. Not that nuts. Injuries, something could happen. We don't really entertain it. The schedule is very difficult. All the other teams that have been good in the last seven, eight years, every one of them has had one at least one year where they trip. Yeah.

3:01All of them. The chiefs last year, the Ravens have, the Bengals have had multiple misplayoffs. I mean, the bills have had a lot of consistency. It's one of the things that sets them apart is how consistent they've been. So I don't think we'll ever predict it to happen as long as Josh Allen's a quarterback. If it did happen this year, somehow no injuries, just call it a bad luck season, things don't go well. You know, the chiefs were going to miss the playoffs before Mahomes tore his ACL. Agreed. What are the chiefs do about it and fire the coach and fire their GM? What would happen if the bills did miss if Benjamin Solaik is correct in his prediction, which I don't anticipate. But what would happen? Probably nothing. Probably. Probably not. I tend to agree. Probably nothing. Because I'm thinking about in a, in a, in just the reality of them potentially missing the playoffs, there might be two scenarios I could think of that it would be with Josh

4:04Allen fully healthy for all 17 games. And it's just like if the defense is just terrible, like worse than they were last year, just terrible. And last year they were about middle of the pack and the regular season. Sure. So worse than last year, but let's just say they would have to be either their defense is terrible or DJ Moore is not good and they are in the same position they were last year and other schedules really tough and they're not scoring as many points. Like to me, I don't know there's a lot of other scenarios where it's Josh Allen is healthy and they're missing the playoffs. It's, you want to entertain that it is possible, but also feels like it's very unlike almost not possible. Yeah. Even though we know it is. I thought it interesting. It's the only person I've seen predict them to miss. And if you would have say, if they did, it would not be hard to find today. Seven teams in the AFC you think are good.

5:06Now New England's having a rough, a rough morning. So maybe you don't count New England. But I mean, the chargers, the Broncos, the Jags, the Texans, I can get to the Ravens and Bengals pretty quickly. I think I'm at six. You could get to the end of theapolis if you wanted. If you want, but if I include, I didn't even include New England. That's seven good teams that could push for a playoff spot and then the bill. So one of those teams is not going to make it. Maybe New England's the team that doesn't make it. That would be crazy. Was it teams that won the Super Bowl or lost in the Super Bowl that always that missed it the next year? There's a crazy stat about how every season for maybe not last year, last two years. But for a while there of the final four playoff teams, one of those four missed the playoffs the next year at a very high rate. Yeah, like at least one has a bad year of their final four. Anyway, 803 05 50 is our phone number. Maybe Drake May isn't good anymore. Maybe he never was. It was just a flash in the pan against a lot of bad teams.

6:09I certainly don't believe that. I think he's still probably good. We had one color, you know, one color that thinks he's two of and one color that thinks he's a young Josh Allen. I think it's closer to a young Josh Allen. Would you find that clip from Jadair from the Seahawks defensive back talking about me in the Super Bowl? Oh, Julian love. Julian love in the Super Bowl. Yeah, former Nurtingham. During the Super Bowl, there is a like graphic of him saying like, this is young quarterback. He's basically waiting an extra second. He wants to see the player open. This isn't like Stafford who will throw it blindly. And I think Stafford will literally look away and throw. True. He does that. But like, it just feels like that is spot on and it feels like that's what I'm watching. There is during that run last year and this can happen to young quarterbacks too. And this could absolutely be part of the equation with Drake May.

7:10It's not that he's bad. It's just that sometimes it goes to show you a how difficult it is to play quarterback in the NFL at a high level consistently. It just is. It's hard. But when you don't feel when the vibes aren't there, it can be really hard to and how important it is to play with confidence at that position. But like, think about any sport in how important confidence is to success. Like if you think you're going to miss a putt, it's a good chance they're going to miss a putt. But if you're standing over, you could be the same bad putter. When we played two weeks ago, I was playing with show, but he's kept saying he got to do it. He's like, you keep missing these putts because every time you walk up to the ball, you're like, here goes another one. I'm going to miss another putt. It's like, and then it really is true. If you do not have confidence at the quarterback position, it starts to show in ways. And I think it's showing right now where he's not just letting it rip. It's either a showing it in arm strength and whether the zip is off his ball.

8:11But when you are a quarterback in rhythm with confidence, you're, you, that arm arrogance term I used earlier with Josh Halein, it's there because you're confident you can make every throw at any moment. And right now, it's either he's waiting for receivers to get open. He's not trusting his offensive line in front of him. He's not trusting what he's seeing, but it does not look like it did last year. It, listen, there's going to be a lot talked about in the next, honestly, unless that tonight's game is just a 40, 34 unbelievable game. There's a good chance tomorrow is still going to be talking about Patriot C-Hawks and not the outcome of tonight's game. There's a really good chance until Sunday, it's going to be all Drake main, the Patriot's conversation because if you want to look back last year, it's like his record versus winning teams, versus teams above or below 500, the numbers are stark. Like and there's a big enough sample size now with the playoffs. So I don't know how we can all have a conversation because you just can't do this anymore with,

9:18with how, and the NFL is consumed to really figure out what is wrong with Drake may. But I think the first thing you have to do is anytime there's a problem, you kind of have to admit there's a problem. I think you have to admit there's something wrong here and whether it's injury, I don't know what it is, but the first step to, you know, admitting there's a problem is admitting there's a problem. New England might have one, especially if AJ Brown's out for a long time. Oh, they're in deep. It's it is a worse group without AJ Brown than it was last year. Oh, yeah.
