We have actual football games to break down no matter how big those spreads are. You're talking ball with the Big Ten Squad. From US-C to Ohio State, from Michigan to Oregon, from Nebraska to Washington, it's the

local experts of the Lockdown Podcast Network bringing you scoops, breakdowns, and the most comprehensive preview of the upcoming Big Ten weekend. No hurt feelings and thin skin allowed. What up, you're part of the Big Ten Squad. Happy Thursday, everybody. Welcome to this week's Lockdown Big Ten Squad. I'm your host, Spencer McLaughlin, neutral arbiter of all things college football back in the house to restore order after the hectic and chaotic week that it must have been without my presence. The last time this show aired, Zach Anderson, Yacht Seymour, of Lockdown UCLA is here. Isaiah Hull of Lockdown Wolverines, Trent Condon of Lockdown Hawkeyes, decided to show up. Nice to see you, Trent. And Roman Tomashov of Lockdown Huskies here as well, guys and entire slate of football games. And you know what? I am not even trolling when I say we have to start with the biggest game of the weekend in the Big Ten. Zach's Bruins against the California Golden Bears were starting there. We'll get to all the other ones and pick who's not going to cover the humongous slate

of spreads. That's in the Big Ten this week because week one in the non-conference. E. Oh, that's not good. But you know what? UCLA's pulling their way. UCLA is pulling their way. Zach, are the Bruins going to get it done against my beloved California Golden Bears? I mean, at this point, you're taking the entire patchwork north under your wing and just considering them, you're, you're not going to do that. Nope. Nope. I mean, he only goes so far north. I mean, he only goes so far north. He only goes so far north. He only goes so far north. I mean, I think UCLA is definitely going to give it a game. We'll be entertained. This isn't going to be some ugly watch at APM Pacific like it was a year ago. We'll get a game. It says even as it gets, obviously Spencer thinks completely differently. I think the Bruins can get it done. It's a spread that keeps growing in UCLA's favor. I think it's two and a half at the moment. Not that big, but the Bruins have enough experience in the coaching staff. They've got obviously returning quarterback Cal does to, but I think overall the vibes, the fit and just the players they've brought it, including the latest with Trent Hendrick,

will get it done just enough in Berkeley. Is that, is that an LSU type latest edition? I mean, LSU, everybody they've added and every sport is at some point just been a pro athlete coming back. Right. Yes, of course. Who hasn't done it, right? I say all the cool kids are so, you know, why not UCLA? They're the coolest of kids. I mean, can you go back and get Zach, or get some of those other types of guys that who I can't even think of any old time like UCLA, like legendary players. So I made my, Miles Jack Brent, honey, you know, that's, I'm telling you, I'm a big 10 network now. That's how we are. I don't even know if I know. I don't know if you both guys are. Let's just be honest. Hold on. I'm trolling and you're not helping. Brent, honey is on the big 10 network. Yeah, no, that's that, that, that threw me for a loop too. I didn't know this. Is it nearly 24?

I mean, Spencer, you're like 16. So, well, yeah, but, you know, I'm not on the big 10 network yet. Brent, honey is 33. What? How do you think Mary Hode is? Yeah, but that's different, you know, because I actually followed his career in the NFL. It was so much better. What a stellar career that was. Good backup quarterback. Yeah, that's, that's what you want with the number two overall pick, right? You want to play off game in Kansas City. The Titans are dysfunctional. Cam Ward is about to learn how bad the Tennessee Titans are as an organization. They're awful. All the sounds. You know what? I think any of these guys. Yeah, we're talking about quarterbacks. Trent is very unfamiliar with what we speak. CJ Bethard. CJ Bethard. Is that the best? You know what? We don't know up to it. Isaiah's got to be allowed to finish here. Go ahead.

I don't even know what we were talking about. I was just trolling you. The UCLA. You feel like Cal? Is that what you're talking about? Yeah. Well, you know, we were going off on former UCLA players that would be, you know, worthwhile additions, not just, you know, the guys that weren't good enough to play to Oregon. I mean, I think, yeah, I was going to say Dante Moore, or that would be it to like, you know, wait till he goes pro and maybe you could bring him back. I mean, if that's what we're just going to do is just troll UCLA. That's what I got. And Jack, I'm only doing this because I gave you so much praise last week. I'm just trying to bring you down just to make you a little bit more humble. But I mean, you choose UCLA. I'll take all this that you just said. If you take UCLA, anything you said is fair game. I mean, 36th in what was it that I was looking at in 24, 7th sports team talent? Like that's not chabby, right? They're not in a bad place. They're ahead of a lot of teams that you'd think that would be ranked higher. But I mean, that's exciting. Just the fact that we've got football coming up, right? Like how I don't know about all of you. I am tired of essentially talking about what might be and what could be over and over

again for eight months. It's just like, all right, well, it's Thursday. Let's talk about linebackers again. Let's close them off. Michigan's got the following. The head size, they apply the hips. Like all right. So happy Friday. We're going to talk about Bryce Underwood. He's the former number one overall recruit. He's got that freshman campaign. He hopes to be better this year. Is he making some money? He's coaching staff. Yeah. What was his journey to Michigan? Was it unique and special in news? I don't know. Let's recap. That's the beauty of the offseason. We can see it over and over again. Yeah. Let's go to Trent on something. Because I want his thoughts desperately on UCLA and Cal. I'm sure you're up to speed, Trent, on the California Golden Bears who have the most underrated quarterback in all of college football in JKS. Are you taking Cal to win the game at home or are you following Zach Anderson Yonkseimer

down a road that is not paved and leads to hell? I love Sega Patel. He's fun to watch the Hawaiian kid. He is. He's big. He's strong and he can make throws. He's an athletic kid that I think is going to give them problems. I do have a question about UCLA because I like Bob Chasney what he did. But I have heard from so many people radio podcasts all over the place about his hampsiness. Oh handsome this guy is. He is a beautiful looking man. Can we just move on? We need football games. If I have to hear one more time that he's handsome, he is handsome by the way. I thought you had a question. I was going to say you had a question. I was ready and it's like, oh, our coach is good looking. I was like, oh, damn, good looking. Would there be much buzz for UCLA coming into the year? Are you telling me, Trent, that Bob Chasney is kind of the victim is that he's benefiting from the long established beauty bias that we have in society. It's Hollywood Bob. Come on. Hollywood Bob is all about it. So I've been waiting to do something here on the show because I just need Roman to know

that Craig Sheeman and Zach Seiko are waiting backstage and I'm about to add them. And you are currently by coincidence in the last position as per usual. Yeah. Yeah. And then I added Trent and then you got put there. So I'm going to add them one at a time and we're going to see where it puts you. Okay. Hey, hey, look at that. Not last. Yeah, Seiko with the flip. Yeah, that was me. That a boy. Seiko, you're the only other one that has control in the street yard chat. Well, just blame it on the new guy. I'm just going to blame Spencer and be be okay with that. My hands were off the mouse. We can roll the tape where we can't. Definitely, definitely be seen. Craig, which one do you want to opine on? Who moved Roman into last place or how attractive Bob Chesney is? Bob Chesney is definitely a handsome man. There's no question about it. And by the way, I love Zach's UCLA. I guess Christmas came early. Is that the theme that I missed at the beginning of the show?

This is the best time of the year. Week one college football. We don't care about week zero unless it's about USC's attendance. All right. So, I'm going to go back to the first ball and say go any early thoughts before we transition to whatever is going to happen in segment two of the game. I didn't have a take on this game or anything. No, that's all that's. Oh, sorry. That's my bad. My bad. Sorry. I had a week off. Rusty getting back into the swing of things. Yeah, go ahead, Roman. No, you're still warming up. I'm very excited. Sorry, Zach. I am taking a cow on this game. I love this cow offense, man. Yeah. All the transfers they brought in, which we've been strong during time as Adam Muhammad. This offense is really, really talented. I don't know how good they're going to be overall. I don't want the ACC. I don't want the travel. They have to face everything. But this is a game where I'm really excited to see what Cal can do early on. I this is going to be fun. Seiko, make your pick in the Calamoney game. I take Cal. I mean, for that organ, former organ coordinator, right? And talk to the boy. Lot and lot of turnover at UCL.

Who doesn't have turnover? Penn State's got a ton of turnover, right? But I do like Cal's chances because of quarterback certainty. I do really like Nico, though. Just different coaching and everything, right? Change another change in the system. I think that's kind of my biggest concern with how quickly he gets going. Maybe mid season, things are different. But for week one, I don't know. Yeah, that's a sharp pick from Seiko. Enter in the chat and just sharpening things right. There are a bunch of spreads that are a little bit larger across the big 10 this week. Who isn't going to cover an oh gosh, it's a good thing she isn't here. Or maybe it's a bad thing she isn't here. Nobody mocks Michigan State like Matt Sheen, all of that coming up next on the Lockdown Big 10 Squad. Brought to you by our friends over at five hour energy. Today's episode is brought to you by the Dell XPS. I'm Wes Goldberg from Lockdown NBA Daily and Lockdown heat.

So what does it feel like to have a better laptop like the Dell XPS powered by Intel Core? With a premium design that's thin and light, it feels smooth. With a responsive touch screen, it feels fast and precise. And with long lasting battery life, it feels like non-stop energy with a laptop that can keep up. Built for those who want better, the Dell XPS built for you. All right, it's not necessarily a loaded lineup of big time games in the big 10. I mean, not that UMass couldn't keep it close with Rutgers, but they're probably. How dare you disrespect the Apple Cup like this? First of all, I mean, this is insane. Are you saying that's a game that should be close? Roman just saying it's a game that deserves to be talked about. Not before UMass and Rutgers. This is crazy. Look, I was just making a point about, you know, the big 10 slate this week isn't exactly spectacularly awesome.

But you know what, Roman, you brought it up and let's go to the Apple Cup. What's your punishment if Washington State wins this game at Husky Stadium on Sunday? Oh, man, I probably have to go jump into Montlake, man. It's probably freezing already this time here. I'd like 90 degrees in this summer. Okay, we are going to come up with a punishment. You're going to jump up. I like this. This is why I don't care. Oh, it's only, oh, it's only 70. Okay, crank, you are another neutral big 10 arbiter here in the chat. If Washington State beats Washington, Roman has to do what? Let's do an ice bucket challenge. I've seen that you see it before, right? Didn't you do one last year? It's when they lost in Northwestern and I was like, they're not going to lose in Northwestern and they did and then responded by meeting Penn State. Do you were confident they weren't going to lose in Northwestern last year? That was like, I think I said that in the summer. Why would you say it ever? Why would they lose in Northwestern ever?

Because Northwestern has been a better program for the last 10 years, mostly, kind of. It depends on the year. But like, of all the programs to say, they're not going to lose to this one. You picked one that's routinely in a bowl game. We already dumped the water on my head. We're throwing apples at Roman. It's an apple cup ticket, apple to the chest. Now we're talking. See, I like, I like that. I like that. I like that. I like that. Okay, okay. I'll buy the pie. I will Venmo you back for the pie show. You should. Okay, it works for me. Okay, Roman, handshake agreement here on the show. Handshake agreement. You got your hand has to come up towards my hand or else you're not shaking my skirt left hand. This is the problem. Left hand. Okay, shake hands like you're supposed to. Washington State wins. I buy you an apple pie and you got to shove it in your face on camera. All right. That works for me. Okay, great. Great. Great, John. That's a legendary crossup. Done. Done. Go Coug, scotch.

That is going to be utterly fantastic. You know the other game that needs to be recognized here. Has anyone seen the line for dear old Michigan State against Toledo? The nine and a half. Some of them. Oh. Yeah, but Toledo is good this, respectively. Yeah, we might put upset special for she out. That's upset alert right there. Well, that's the thing is if you just look at the history of point spread outright upset wins. Nine and a half is within the margin of this is possible. Oh, sure. Like it could happen. So we're going to go around anyone want to take Toledo to knock off Michigan State. Craig. I feel as the host of locked up big 10, it would not be my best interest to do so. However, I miss the reaction shows pop off. I am not going to be shocked if it happens on Friday night. Seiko, give me Toledo and the points. I don't know about him. But it is a it is a worthwhile good good sprinkle type of investment.

Seiko had me go in there. Give me Toledo. I was like, oh, come on, send it. York Siver. Any any interest and take it taken Toledo outright. After seeing some bad years, I know it's like to play close with the bad team, but I do think Michigan State will get it done in the new era. Trent. Can you be the points 94% of the money right now with wager talking 77% of the bets? On Spardy. Yeah, I'm going to be jumping aboard Grabby the Rock. It's a maybe just a little down there on the money line. Oh, see that's that sharp action right there. Trent down there, fade in the public. All lines of course provided by our friends at Fandall. Roman, do you think that Michigan State wins big? I don't know about wins big. I think they cover it. I say this mainly just because our our brother in arms here, matchy hen has been through enough. He needs one little win before, you know, whatever happens. This guy's a boss. He needs needs needs to get that breakthrough victory against checks notes. The rockets.

Isaiah. Well, if this was two years ago Toledo, like, you know, peak Jason candle and all of that, I think that Toledo wins the game outright. If it was two years ago Toledo versus right now Michigan State, because right now Michigan State, I understand they're going to sit there and say like, wow, this is really coming together. It is the least talented team in the big 10, quite literally the least talented team in the big 10 right now. They are not like and like, oh, we've got to fix the program. We haven't modernize it. Here's what we're going to do. Let's get a guy that hasn't been around college football for like the last three years. You can't bring anybody with him, right? Doesn't have a program they can be like here. I'm going to do like Matt Campbell did coming from Iowa State. So I think Michigan State is going to be in trouble. I think Toledo covers. But I think Michigan State wins. Yeah, that's a big brother stuff right there. Are you telling me Isaiah, you haven't seen any of the social media work that Michigan State has done with Pat Fitzgerald?

That guy's electric. Come on. I did see and I love Pat Fitzgerald. I have a picture of me telling him he's awesome. Much like Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Ricky Bobby and Taladega Knight. Do you have like the thought bubble or what's in the picture? No, it's just literally me shaking his hand. But I literally walked up to him when he was at North Westernet, Big 10 Media Day several years ago. I'm like, hey, man, I just want to let you know I think you're awesome. You're right. Like I did with the accent and everything. And Brian Kelly style. Nice. Yeah, you know, when in Chicago, you know, so it's I do remember their social media. I do remember seeing something about spring game and them spinning around bats and running and things of that nature. I mean, it looks phenomenal. How does everyone forget this already? I don't think I ever even heard of it. I remember that. I don't know his program. That looked like a championship team. Let me tell you. They do the thing where you spin around on.

Dizzy bat. Yeah, that they did that at the spring game. Yeah, they tell me they might be a little void of talent. It was it was a circus. That's that's not it's not confidence inspiring necessarily there. But okay, when we get back, there are every other game except for Northwestern hosting South Dakota State is at least a 20 point spread one way or the other for a big 10 team. And each of us are going to have to plant our flag on which game will be the closest. Will anyone give love to Ryan Herring's Wisconsin Badgers? Find out next. Episode brought to you by our friends over at Fandall of course giving us all the lines that we talk about here on the show. Guys, we have a bevy of big time spreads this week. The big 10 should be rolling in the comfortable wins and not losing too many games if any at all. So here are the options. I'll just run through for everybody listening here. UMasset Rutgers Rutgers minus 29 and a half.

Minnesota minus 42 and a half against Eastern Illinois. UAB is a 27 and a half point dog at Illinois. Indiana State is a 35 and a half point underdog at Purdue. Well, I might be a tough year for Indiana State. If that's accurate Toledo, of course, we talked about that. Fresno State 22 and a half point dog at USC. Boise State 24 and a half point dog at Oregon. North Texas 40 and a half point dog at Indiana. Ohio 23 and a half underdog at Nebraska. Ball State 50 and a half at Ohio State. That's a lot of points. Marshall 24 and a half at Penn State. Look out, say, go Northern Illinois 31 and a half at Iowa. Don't look out. Trent, you'll be fine. Western Michigan 27 and a half at Michigan. Hampton 45 and a half at Maryland. And finally, Washington State 23 and a half at Washington. Wisconsin 20 and a half at Notre Dame. Craig, which one of those games is going to be the closest? I got two games to keep an eye on just for betting purposes, of course.

First of all, Michigan almost never covers the non-conference early season big blowout spreads because they run the ball so much and they run out of possessions. That game won't be close, but I don't think Michigan covers. Now, let's do a little history lesson here. With Oregon and Boise State, the last time this game happened in 2024, I believe Oregon was an 18 and a half point. That's a wrap for Craig Scheeman today. Wait, I was actually going to pick that one too. Am I done too? Well, I mean, you're going to be done. You can be done anyway. All right, Craig, you can finish now. I was just going to say if it weren't for two special teams, kick returns for Oregon, a misfield goal by Boise and a field goal at the horn by Oregon, they would have lost that game. So I don't know. Maybe that one will be a little closer. I also think Oregon's loaded, so it would be hard to do. But I'll just for show purposes, I'll say the Oregon game. All right, Seiko, choose your next words very wisely. So Oregon and Boise State.

No, I was sponsored in Notre Dame. So Notre Dame, I think wins comfortably, but is Wisconsin really in, are they in blowout territory? That's a neutral site, neutral site game, right? That one's in Wisconsin. That one's at Lambo Field. So Notre Dame's got to, they got to be perfect this season. They, because they're schedule, I know they play like, right? They'll, it's a, it's a makeshift schedule. They don't play a conference. They don't play in a conference. So they're schedules so easy, they belong in the big 10. Yeah, I shouldn't say that because Penn State schedules. But I think, I think three touchdowns is too many. I like, I like Wisconsin covering. That's, that feels like a 10 to 14 point game to me. Zach, plant your flag, which one of these big spread games is tight. Well, I'm pretty intrigued by USC Fresno State. USC played in the middle of the Saturday. They have a short week on Friday.

So while they do have the one game edge of being, you know, having already come back, Fresno State's intriguing at the Coliseum. Will there be sold out crowd? Will there be nobody? I lean more nobody. Six PM on a Friday night and a holiday weekend. It's traffic. Ain't nobody getting anywhere to the Coliseum. Maybe by the end of the game, but definitely not by kickoff. So I think in Fresno State, whether it's a backdoor cover, just like how San is a state scored a bunch of points in the fourth quarter against SC on Saturday, maybe that's what gets at the closest. But I think that one can really get the Trojans on a short week. I'm going to, I'm going to put myself in a Yacht Simer's camp there. I'm also going to go Fresno State Fresno State to G6 playoff content or this year. I've been saying that on my show this off season. So I'm going to, I like the short week part of it. All right, Trent, which one you think is tight? I was or are you feeling okay? I'm not feeling great about that one, but I'm going to stay away from my hawk guys because I ripped them enough as is. We're going to go to Seiko Squad. Matt Campbell sucks in September. He has been awful. Losses to Ohio, Louisiana, Latvia, Northern Iowa.

This is a guy that year after year struggles early on. Their teams do get better, but usually it's tinkering with the offensive line. It's normally not at the spot. And this martial team brings back their home all offense align from a year ago. A returning quarterback. This thing is snug in the fourth quarter. And Seiko, he's going to fire up his computer. He's not going to be real pleased after this one goes fine. I've heard, I've heard it about Marshall. They're, they're good team. They're a good team. But ah, this is also Matt Campbell's most talented team. And three and one against Iowa in the last four. They games they played. So just want to remind you about that. He's having a straight. He's having a straight. He's having a straight else. Roman, are you going to take Boise here to cover 24 and a half? You know, I really wanted to. And I wanted to get myself kicked out of the squad just like Craig did. But I think that the real answer here is the Fresno State game where I wasn't totally sold on USC watching everything they had. And in the opener against San Jose State. And I like the point of the short week.

And I think that would probably be my realistic answer. The other one I wanted to keep an eye on is I think Indiana State can cover against Purdue. I just with everything that they're trying to do, Purdue. I'm just not sold on any of it. So give me that 35 and a half is what you said Spencer. Yeah, that's yeah. It's a lot. There's no no doubt about it. That is that is a lot. Isaiah and Isaiah's dog. I declare that good dog on the show. Which one? Well, I harbor grudges. So therefore Trent, your Iowa Hawkeyes. Because we're never if we're going to forget the disrespect from what was like a month and a half ago, two months ago, whatever like that. We're never going to forget. So I was honest, you know, Iowa having 30 some points or whatever the spread was over another team. Any other team score that many. I mean, how many defensive touchdowns and safeties and fieldwork can we get in a single game? I don't know if you'd score 30 plus points against us.

Like us playing against. I mean, if we put together a lockdown, big 10 squad on defense, I say you and Craig have got to be on the interior. I'm putting Yachtseimer safety Trenton Roman feel very linebacker ish. Seiko's going to be a stand up edge. We need to get. What do you want to know? Does anyone else? Oh, I'm definitely the kicker.
