The NBA's regular season has become disfigured and grotesque in utter disgrace. It just set a record with 82 games decided by 30 or more points and that broke the previous record of 80 set all the way back in last season. It is inside the sorry context that I am going to anoint the sons as regular season champions for the 2025-26 season and that's because their victory last night in Memphis was their 42nd of the season which guarantees them a winning record which is an amazing achievement given the rock bottom perception of the franchise after the failed Kevin Durant experiment. After all their victory total compared to the preseason over under of 30 and a half is far better than the Boston Celtics the other great unexpected success story in the NBA.

Now comes the hard part can the sons find a way to win playoff games which are much different in tone and tempo when size and physicality matters when you need players who can make huge shots on command when you have to be really good in the final five minutes of basketball games which is something the sons have clearly struggled with but entering the home stretch it's hats off to a team that was once left for dead a team that is very much alive.
