For sports fans in the valley, Tuesday was a case of lost and found, as in the sun's
lost to the magic, while the Diamondbacks found some magic.
It came in the form of rookie Jose Fernandez, who became the eighth player in baseball history
to blast two home runs in his major league debut, and the second was a game-winning three-run
shot that helped the Diamondbacks stack another victory after that dreadful weekend in Los
Angeles.
And this unexpected burst of goodness was exactly what this team and this lineup needs,
because this might not be a fluke.
Because of the WBC and how it featured a lot of Diamondbacks, Fernandez was given a lot
of playing time in the cactus league, and by the end of spring training, he had flash
serious development to go along with his powerful physique.
And if Fernandez is indeed a star waiting to happen, it could solve the pop-gun feel
of the lineup when you get past the first three hitters.
There was also a growing feeling around the valley that the run had ended, that the Diamond
backs had lost their grip after their trip to the World Series in 2023, and that the
2026 season was going to be a full-on struggle.
But thanks to Fernandez, Delirium returned a chase field on Tuesday.
Hopefully he and the magic are both here to stay.
