It's a Labor Day. Labor Day. It is Labor Day. And this is the Dan Patrick Show. Rob Parker with a former All Pro Safety, of course, Kerry Rhodes. We normally would do the odd couple. That's right. We're going to be in Berlin for Kelvin Washington. And we're sitting in for Dan in the Danettes. And man. Can the rain stop here in Los Angeles? No, keep it going. It's like rain all day yesterday. Keep it going a little bit, Rob. It's been hot. It's been hot out there. I was like, my goodness gracious. Man, we got a great show for you today. A lot of stuff to get to. Of course, it's a holiday. It might be the new Rob Parker when it comes to that. There you go. There's nothing wrong with that, right? Get there. Get it done. And remember, you can watch us live on YouTube right now. Just search odd couple, F-S-R on YouTube. Hit that subscribe button. And after that,
after you're done, you can tap the icon. The thumbs up icon. I should say comment away. Let us know if you agree with me or Kerry. And go check out the YouTube channel right now. We appreciate everybody just search odd couple, F-S-R and subscribe. Appreciate everyone because people have subscribed to the odd couple YouTube channel continues to grow and we're very, very happy about that. A lot to get into, especially, oh my god, college football, Michigan, all that. We're going to do that. But I guess you could say a little breaking news. I think that's what has been named the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. Where are you on that? Overly surprise it. I'm not surprised at all. Man, he's going to be the best player that they have in this situation to get it done. Pinnick hasn't had a lot of time. This camp has been injured. And for me, this whole thing with two in the Falcons, man. There was a couple years ago when he got hurt and he kept getting the concussion stuff. And I was literally scared for him.
I wanted him to retire, Rob. I had a terrible year last year with Miami. It just kind of, you know, it didn't seem right at all for him last year. Like it seems like he was trying to over and compensate for some of the talk that people have been talking about throughout the year. But it's crazy. This is a guy who put up a 70 piece. Yeah. You know what I'm like? And that's what I'm saying. So for me, in this situation. Some of his numbers two years ago, he had some of the best numbers in the NFL. He did, Rob. That's what I'm talking about. That's why with this team, they have everything else. And that's the crazy part. Like you can't pick anybody in the South to win it really. But I think Atlanta has the most talent. And if he can just go out there and play like two, like we know, then I think that team can be good. So it's tough. It sucks them. It's a good call. But it's one of those things where, come on, man, they gotta get together. And as far as Pentix, I think at some point to Falcons are going to have to cut their Pentix out. I mean, Pentix out. Oh no. Here you go. You started early. You're going to go that way early. Okay. What's you got? They need to cut it up. They're absolutely at some point. I don't know. Pentix.
I've seen flashes, but I mean, Pentix, if he's that guy, should have beat out to him. You know what I mean? Like he's the guy who was drafted there. He's the guy, all the signs are that they're not happy with them. Right? If you're a Pentix, I don't know how you feel anything other than, you know, they really don't believe in me. Yeah. No, they can't. Right? He just had enough time to be healthy either. So and that's been his track record already. I mean, Robbie had multiple multiple injuries in college where we saw flashes, but we never seen enough from him. No doubt, but the big story. Oh my God. Wake the kids call the neighbors. The Michigan Western Michigan. Travesty because that's what it was. It was as bad as it gets. It was so bad, so crooked. I had to make sure I thought at least that Jim Harball was still coaching. Of course. Oh man. It was cheating involved and Michigan was involved. So I just figured Jim Har, as he's still coach, I thought he went to the charges. Now, let me give him over the actual effects of this stuff to Harball.
Yeah. Hey, cheating is cheating and Michigan always seems to be honest. I'm going to say this care. It's moments like this where I think we should abolish instant replay. Because instant replay to me, sure you want to get calls right. Right? Like, oh, there was, but when a call is when you take away something from somebody, I think it hurts even more. And that's what I felt like. I don't want to hear about. There's another clock. Like, like, I watch football. My whole life. What other clock is there? Right? Shouldn't that be there's a game clock? There's a clock in the stadium. That's not the game clock. Like, like, NBC flashed a cup, you know, final 12 to 7 Western Michigan. I turned it off. Of course you did. And Michigan fans.
Disgraceful. You're going to run out on the field after you play Western. What were they 40 point favors? 27. 27 point favorites. And rush to feel and make it like, oh my God, look at what we just did. What an embarrassing performance by Michigan. It was a terrible performance by Michigan. And Rob, the thing about that team, we know that Bryce Underwood was one of the biggest recruits ever coming into Michigan. Had a lot of hype. And it was a former all pro safety that went to their camp this all season. Rob Eric Wettel. He went to their camp and he left. And he said that quarterback isn't as good as people are saying. And then he comes out against Western Michigan plays away play. That doesn't bow well for them. And especially, I mean, how much money they paid the kids. So they're going to have to regroup terrible look. Western Michigan almost almost got the upset. Should have probably got the upset.
No, no, no, stop saying probably should have. They got the upset. I've seen the angles. I've seen a replay. And I saw the clock go to zero, zero. And this other idea that, oh, no, but that's not the clock. There's another second on there. So what they say, 10th of a second was because it wasn't a second. It's just unbelievable that this is where we are. You know what it reminds me of? What? It reminds me of instant replay when guys steal bases in baseball. So they hold the tag on the runner. They watch the replay and he comes up a millisecond like in the slide. He beat the ball there. He beat the tag. The guy holds the tag on him. And at some point, his foot comes like a little bit off the bag during the slide. They have to slow it down so slow to see that is not what instant replay is for. It's for missing obvious calls. They set college football back.
I'm telling you, you know, they set college football back. That's not what you want. That's not you feel like you got cheated. You had to take a shower after that game and go like, what, what did I just watch? A little cigarette or something as well. That, hey, I'm sure Michigan friends had a cigarette and baby oil. You know, feeling good after they just, you know, didn't have their season wrecked in week. A week one against right? Yeah. What's their Michigan? Come on. Yeah. No, Rob. It's, I'm not going to say you don't need instant replay. I'm not, I'm not going to. I'm down. I'm down. I'm down on instant replay. You're down on it. If you continue to do this, which is take away moments seriously. That's true. Okay. As a sports fan, dude, are you perfect? No. Nobody's perfect. Why are we looking for this perfection in sports? It doesn't make sense. And every time because humans are involved, guess what happens?
There are mistakes. You watch the NFL every week. Yeah. There's a hole. There's a plate. It's a, every week. I agree with that. So what are we doing? You're not, you're not fixing it. If you told me it was foolproof and, and you got every call that was wrong, right? And you didn't blow any calls the other way. Then maybe I would sign up. Okay. I was, okay. Yes, you could point to maybe two or three calls. You watch the million game. Just as a couple of games where you go, ah, they blew it or that. But for the most part, for the most part, it's not an issue. Even with the pitch, the ABS system and baseball. Yep. Umpires are nailing it or killing it. Do you know that as far as their rate of getting the calls right? Yeah. And the ones that they miss are just like, I'm just a little bit out. Outside or a little bit like it's like it's unbelievable how good they are. Yeah. To me, it has reinforced how good Major League on Pires are.
Really? And there are bad ones. Don't get me wrong. Yes. There's some bad ones. But go look, go look at the percentage. It's really high or how many calls they get right. And my point is we don't need replay. We really, if you're going to pull victories away and you're going to get it wrong from human error anyway, I don't even, I'm down on replay. That has soured me. And I've seen other, as I say, every Sunday you watch NFL football as a season is about to kick off. And I shake my head all the time because they don't get the calls right now. It's going to be hard. And you said you hit something right there with the human error part. There is a human element to sports that there was, um, I guess there's like a, it felt more natural in that way. Rob, but if you're talking about wanting to get things right and I think that's the part now when you start adding gambling and all these things to, to the equation, like you have
to get it right. I don't care. No, no, I hear you, but you have to get it right. But they don't, but they don't get it right. It's what I'm saying. You know, people had, but who said I didn't get it right? You just say you didn't see the extra clock or whatever, but if they, you can't just say, I watched, I watched the replay with the clock. He didn't touch the ball when the clock. Okay. And now you want to tell me, no, there's a double clock in the back that we keep. That's different. And the referee's new that that, that clock had less than a second on it. Yeah. We had an expert come on. I wasn't, was a mic, was a mic per error that came on and said they sent them use the other clock as well. Did you see that yet? Yeah. He said they shouldn't have. They said they shouldn't have. Absolutely. This is what I'm talking about. In that, in that situation, you got to understand the circumstance and the idea that like, here is my point. A guy makes a big error. Like he should just make the play and it's the game should be over. Nobody goes, come on man, he would have made that play 99 out of 100.
That guy's out. Just call him out and the game's over. No, no. Yeah. Because that's the human element that's a part of the game. Just like fans have gotten calls go their way sometimes. Fans have gotten calls to go the opposite way where you're pissed and you know sometimes as a fan, you got to call your team got to call and you're like, dude, we been getting job the whole time. I'll take this one, right? Yeah. Absolutely. They always won from three years ago in that play. All I'm saying is I've sown on Instagram, we played that when you take the fans joy away from watching something. And now every time, you know how many people had the money line on Western Michigan, you know what I mean? Like they did. They're like, yeah, they'll get hammered or whatever or the plus 27 or which they wouldn't want anyway. But you know what I mean, they had a bed or something. And you see something and go, what? They cheated for Michigan again. That's what people want.
That's what people walked away with feeling like, of course, they cheated for Michigan. Yeah. No. I turned it off. It was up when they threw the hell marry out of bounds. It's like, oh, that game's over. There's no time left. I turned it off. I get in the group. I see the group chat. The group chat come in. Wasn't even in the end. I was saying it. But when they said Rob, this is the explanation though, just so you, so this is what they said. So the guy was already out bound out of bounds. So as soon as he touched the ball, even at that one second, you see that. That's when the ball was dead. You see the ball touching the ground one zero. It's over. But he was already out of bounds. And when he touched it, that was the explanation. So when they give the explanation, it's right. It's right. And so when you say the replay didn't work out, it worked out. If he was out of bounds, that was the judgment. But I'm saying it didn't work out because because you can't have two clocks. Seriously, you can. And today's technology, you can sync up the clocks.
It doesn't even make sense. Why are people in the stadium watching one clock? That's right. And then NBC's broadcast in the game, they put final 12 to seven Western Michigan. Yeah. That's what I'm trying to say. So if NBC and the people doing the broadcast, nobody on the block, listen, nobody said, oh, wait a minute, we need to check the other clock. No, because nobody knew there was another clock. Did you know there was another clock yesterday from the game? No. This is what I'm saying. So it leaves the sports fan with a bad taste in his mouth. He just feels like this sucks. What? What? It's so bad. And let me tell you something. As bad as I just want to say, Michigan, they cheated. That's when they finally won their national championship. For the first time since Morby Dick was a guppy, we know they cheated after getting like a drum forever by Ohio State.
They finally win. They find out that they stealing signals and all that. And then they put on a terrible performance, lose to Western Michigan. I mean, he's just gonna say it, huh? They lost to Western Michigan. You could say whatever you want to do. And hopefully they won't win a game this year. I'm wishful thinking, but you know what I mean? That is such such bad mojo. You know what I mean? Like you wish something bad happens to Michigan at some point to make up for that. Because they put in a piss poor performance. Yes it did. That didn't warrant winning a football game being bailed out by the officials. We want to hear from you on the Dan Patrick show. It's the odd couple, Rob Parker and Kerry Rhodes filling in for Dan and the Dan that's 87799 on Fox 8779966369 for you. Laman out there who can't figure out the letters and the numbers.
Where are you on this? I'm done. I'm done with instant replay. I just it kills me and it's not a one. It's not a perfect science. We've seen other games where umpires referee and it go to the booth and they go to New York and they go to New Jersey in the command center and still it comes back wrong. Yeah. Yes, there are some two today. I'm just you want to talk about getting your panties in a bunch this morning. That is me over this whole thing. They really bunched up with that tie. Okay. All right. All right. All right. Be sure to catch the live edition of the Dan Patrick show weekdays at 9 a.m. Eastern 6 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio. But to the people who grew up here, it's everything. What happens when a quiet Tennessee town becomes the front line in a battle over the future of America? Developers with right wing ties have purchased hundreds of acres of land in the area. The first thing you see when it pops up is high nears and apple etch. But they weren't just planning houses. We need cities on a shining hill that exemplify and embody the Christian way of life.
Stop right there. Is that normal? A podcast about what happens when a small town becomes the site of a social experiment. God need men to rule. And decides to fight back. A lot of conversations in the past week or so with the travel plans with the Niners and the Rams and who was taking the best route given the travel time, jet lag, when do you get there? When do you get acclimated? The Rams, they left on Tuesday, the Niners left last week and we thought why not try to find somebody who does this for a living. Dr. Metis Singh, board certified physician and psychiatrist concentrated in the applied science of sleep.
She's worked as a consultant for multiple NFL teams, baseball NHL NBA, Olympics, college teams as well and large organizations and executives seeking to optimize their competitive performance. Dr. Thanks for joining us. If you were in charge of travel for these two football teams, what would you have suggested going from the West Coast to Australia? Well, so think about the time difference at 17 hours ahead. Science says that it takes about an hour a day to acclimatize. You have to kind of manage that jet lag. I would say at this point, nobody's going to have 17 out days to adjust, right? So the earlier you get the better, I'm really interested in, because I don't work with either teams. I'm interested to understand why they both took such different routes. Because I mean, they're just going to, the, the Rams, I'm going to get, they're there for only 48 hours. So I don't see how they're going to get adjusted there.
But the Niners leaving and getting there five or six days earlier, is that a big advantage in your opinion? Well, it depends on how well they're doing it. Yes. So if they had planned this out, they've like, you know, used strategically used melatonin adjusted their use, you use light, there's a, there's an entire protocol that you can follow to try to get adjusted to the new time zone. If they've done that right, then yes, they would be, they would be, they had the advantage of being better adjusted. You work for the Saints, I can see the footballs behind you if you're watching the show, but you're all, you're now working for the Denver Broncos. Yes. What is your role with the Broncos? So I'm a sleep consultant and I am, my role is to help them, you know, manage travel, manage their, any sleep issues, any, anybody in the building might have on an individual
level. And you know, the culture and the organization is absolutely amazing. Like the owners have invested a lot. Sean Payton of course, you know, wants to follow the science. And yeah, that's what we do. What's your take on melatonin? Well, melatonin is, it's something that, it's a, it's something that is endogenously produced in our brain, right? But you can take it externally and it actually works really well for jet lag because it's a signal to your brain that you are, that you're ready to fall asleep. So for example, when these teams are falling asleep at night, it's their body clocks still think that they're on California time. So they're trying to fall asleep at five or six in the morning. melatonin at that time would send them a signal that you're ready to fall asleep. We look at teams going from the west coast to the east coast.
Yes. As opposed to east coast going to the west coast, is there that much of a difference in performance of, you know, what direction you're going in? Yeah, I mean, so Dan, it's always easier to go to bed later, right? So when you go from the east to the west coast, you're going to bed later. It's always easier. East travel, eastward type travel is always more difficult. And you know, that three-hour difference does make a difference, makes a significant difference. The problem with this trip is that it's a 16-hour difference. It's a flip of a day and a night. It's never been studied before. We have no idea. I mean, you know, there's no real way that you can actually do research for this. But you can going from east coast to west coast and vice versa. Yes, you can. It's much more manageable. It's also more manageable when you're going from here to say London to play, right?
So there's a time difference. But if you get there a week ahead in time, you've given yourself enough time to follow a protocol, that'll help manage it. This is difficult for both. I've been told I don't know if it's true, so that's why I'm asking you, the doctor, if I go from New York to Italy, don't take that nap when I get to Italy, plow through the first day. Yes, yes. So when you go from here to Italy, you want to not take a nap because a nap will take a bite out of your sleep drive. You want that drive to help you fall asleep at night. So yeah, that's good policy. You want to go there and hit the ground running. When it comes to light exposure, you've got to be careful about when to expose your eyes to light, your body clock to light, so maybe where some glasses till about 10 or 11 a.m. But then get exposed to bright light.
I have somebody on my staff, Todd Fritz, who has sleep apnea. What kind of progress have we made in sleep apnea? Oh my goodness, it's amazing now, right? First of all, we no longer do a single night of sleep study. We do multiple nights because sleep apnea varies by night, every night. And then the treatments that are available, if somebody is overweight, you can give them medication for that to help them. But sleep apnea, the machines are really smaller. They're much more easier to use. There are different, like the dental devices, there are surgical options that are available. Are you treating your sleep apnea, Todd? I am using the CPAP for a while. It wasn't comfortable. I tried all the different masks. Someone came to the house. They did the sleep studies and the doctor said you have severe obstructive sleep apnea, where you're constantly stopping your breathing. So I am being treated up with a CPAP machine and it's going fine.
I'm afraid of the whole implant thing. I don't want to do the inspire thing. I have this arrow, sweep machine or something. So I don't love it, but if it's helpful and I'm getting better sleep and I feel better and it's putting less pressure on my body and my heart, then I've got to do with wearing it. Good man. Yeah. That's exactly the right thing to do. Dr. Thank you. If the Broncos win the Super Bowl, do you get a Super Bowl ring? I certainly hope so. I definitely, I'm honored to work with the Broncos. And I'm like working with Sean Bacon is an honor for lifetime. And you guys game balls there that he gave you when you were with the Saints? Yes. Okay. How do you get a game ball as these sleep doctors? Well, hopefully you contribute. So this is when they went, they were in, they played in London and they, the Saints were 20 and the dolphins were zero.
I hope I had something to do. Did my help them? Good for you. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. I'm wondering what the, I'd be really interested in finding out what the thought process was for these two teams and how they decided, you know, to go at these different times. How many teams have sleep doctors? Well, I'm not very sure how many do. It really is, it's a matter of culture because, you know, calling and saying, you know, calling and asleep doctor a week before or 10, you know, 10 days before a major trip is not the right way to do it. Really the culture of figuring out what's happening with somebody's sleep, helping them really starts in the off season and happens mostly in the preseason. And then you, you, it's a multi-year program. You're going to help them through it so that because it takes a little bit of discipline and it takes buy in, you know, the players have to buy in to that.

What was your big takeaway from that game last night? Don't forget Fred Warren, he's probably in. Oh, Boasa is not, but yeah, Fred definitely is in.
So last night, yeah, well this morning it was weird to see the sun coming up. It wasn't a weird though lighting. It was really weird feeling. And it had to be weird for them playing it. And especially the Rams had to be just like spinning. Whoever divides the idea of rolling in 16 hours early for the game clearly, I mean the Rams just looked, I don't know, like they've done what they just did, right? Who's 16 hours and woke up and played at 8.30 in the morning. But it was, I mean, look, the 49ers, if healthy, right, that's the big caveat. But you just said it's probably five hollow famous of the 49ers all older. And if they all are productive and healthy, they're going to be in the mix. And you can see that yesterday for sure. I'm still trying to understand, you know, you athletes are creatures of habit. And this is something so foreign to you, no pun intended, where you're going 17 hours.
And then a quick turnaround. But the Rams said they did research on this, Steve. Yeah, you could, you know, as athletes, you say like the patterns are so entrenched. And like, you know, you go, you go 10 minutes longer and a half time at the Super Bowl. We're like, oh, you don't have what are we going to do? Let alone what this was. And yeah, the research, you know, look, whoever, whoever's the travel agent helped specialist figured that one out, you could just look, you got somebody I'm just talking to. Someone yesterday, it's from Australia and like, I make that trip all the time. You do not want to lay on a plane for 16 hours and land and play football. Like you got to get acclimated. And you can say, wow, now the 49ers are going to be acclimated up from back. I can make it again. And like, play the game. You go down there to play like get ready to play that game and then figure out what's next. And the 49ers spent the time to prepare to play that game.
They did everything they could to get ready for that game. And then some other theory, that's what those theories looks like. Those both there like some crazy help theory. And it's like, oh, and how if you don't ever let's not go to sleep. Let's land and go straight to the game. Then they don't have to acclimate. And we just go right like that's almost what they did. Trent Williams had an unbelievable night. Considering Miles Garrett was basically a no show. How valuable is that if you're Brock Pertie and you know, Trent is going to take care of that guy. And you don't have Aaron Donald to worry about. Well, we said that, you know, it's four guys on the team that in today's game quarterback left tackle, pass rusher in a corner, right? That's that's a bedrock of the team. And if you had to pick, you'd say, well, quarterback for sure. You can't go all the way down the quarterback, but the tackle is the next guy because it's like it shuts down like so much like your whole offense opens up.
Everything about the offense is created because you're not under siege and especially the month with the best players in the league. So Trent Williams could think about it. Chris McAfry and Trent Williams showed up. And you can say kind of out of nowhere for the 40 diners to locks in the Hall of Fame. Just kind of like shows the 40 diners and it's just changed everything. The two of them have created incredible opportunity for the 49ers and Trent Williams. But he's, we say, Hall of Famer. He's a Hall of Famer Hall of Famer. And he's probably the best, you can say he's the best tackle ever played. And then you can get into the best football player that ever played. Well, I don't know, you know, yeah, you can. I get in the middle of that mix. That's how good he is. You would take him over Larry Allen, Anthony Munoz. Yeah, I mean, it's just that he's that dominant. I mean, you saw him a few times when they line up with emotion. Like Kyle, I think it's it's fun to see Kyle Ted kind of thinking of room and
anything like I love what he's putting people in strange places and taking banish leftism. There's a little bit of me. And I thought there's a lot maybe you know, I've talked about this, but like when you're 14 years old, you're going out for football and you're 65 to 40 to 70. You're not going to play quarterback. But there are guys, Dan, who can rip the ball that were forced to play lineman because they, they coach like a camp, like quarterback at that side. One day I want, we talk about this, but I one day I want a huge lineman to be able to give a chance to play quarterback. Cause I think Trent Williams is one of those guys that probably could probably drop back and rip the ball 40, 50 yard, but the tackle is the next guy because it's like it shuts down like so much. Like your whole offense opens up. Everything about the offense is created because you're not under siege.
And especially a month, month with the best players in the league. So Trent Williams, if you think about it, the Christopher Kaffrey and Trent Williams showed up and you can say kind of out of nowhere for the 40 diners, two locks in the Hall of Fame, just kind of like shows the 40 diners. And it's just changed everything. The two of them have created incredible opportunity for the 49ers and Trent Williams. But he's, we say to the Hall of Famer, he's a Hall of Famer Hall of Famer. He's probably the best, you can say he's the best tackle ever played. And then you can get into the best football player that ever played. Well, I don't know, you know, yeah, you can, I get in the middle of that mix. That's how good he is. You would take him over Larry Allen, Anthony Munoz. Yeah, I mean, it's just that he's that dominant. I mean, you saw him a few times when they line up with emotion. Like Kyle, I think it's, it's fun to see Kyle Ted kind of think, thinking of room and anything like I love what he's putting people in strange places and taking
bandit athleticism. There's a little bit of me. And I thought there's a lot. Maybe you know, you know, I've got this, but like when you're 14 years old, you're going out for football and you're 65 to 40 to 70. You're not going to play quarterback. But there are guys, Dan, who can rip the ball that were forced to play lineman because they coach like a template quarterback at that side. One day I want, we talk about this, but I one day I want a huge lineman to be able to give a chance to play quarterback because I think Trent wins is one of those guys. If probably he probably could drop back and rip the ball 40, 50 yards. And I, you know, we don't even know it. Talking to Steve Young, by the way, he ran a 4-8 at the combo. Yeah, that's that's that's probably a ball of average for the quarterbacks in the Conway. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I would see if you could throw it. I get like there's guys that could rip off as of lineman that I played with could rip
the ball because lineman don't want to touch the ball. They go out before practice every practice where lineman doing warm up throw in the ball. They want to throw the ball touch the ball because I never touch it. And you watch some of them throw you like throw. You sure you didn't play some quarterbacks and well, no, it's too big. I wouldn't love you play quarterback. He's Steve Young, the Hall of Famer joining us, Dan Patrick show. Give me your biggest question for this season. Either team, player, coach. Is there an overriding one? Yeah, I guess, you know, you always look for the for the domination. You're always looking for the team that's going to get into that. That like the chiefs had that have had that run. Patriots had a huge run like you always want to say who's that next team that's going to run like that and and it could be the sea hawks that could get into that kind of a run. Now that they did it last year. So I think the question is who's going to who's going to become dominant and can can make that kind of run and who's going to show up or maybe those days truly are over.
Like I like to get the side to say that just got done with the chiefs. Like it's never going to be over, but you wonder about the charity and all of the stuff they've been clamoring for for all the years is it finally going to show up and just going to trade, you know, trade paint all over the all over the the league. And there's no one that's going to dominate. It's that that's to me is kind of fun to think about. But everybody is kind of anointed the Rams. They're going to be super bowl champs and they might be and even had people talking about they, you know, maybe they could go undefeated. You're talking about football. It's such an emotional game because you have to ram into other, you know, it's like you could you have to ram into each other. It changes the dynamic where the emotions really matter how you prepare them kind of emotionally. And I think that's also because you play every seven days, not every other day, every day like baseball. The media and the chatter matter in that in a way that gets into their gets into your psyche so that the Rams who were really good and then sign mild scared and now they're
like, oh, they're going that no one's ever been better than you know, this is amazing. But the lock on really hasn't it's like they were good. But now everyone tells them you're great. You know, it's July. You're like, you are amazing. You know, it's really, I haven't played a game yet. I haven't warmed up, but I am great. And you're going to be one of the all time great teams. Oh, that and it does. You can't help it. Even even the body lots and the guys that are just grind like it, you can't help it take in some of it and then you get punched in the mouth and we'll see how it goes. But that's fun. That's a fun part about football is that the emotions can really change and the expectations and the build every week. Now what do you think is going to be written all week for the NLA? I have this team's a boss. No, no, I think it'll be, oh, this is a good loss for them. We get rid of the undefeated season possibility. Oh, we, you know, cut, you know, good. We're back down to earth now. Like, I didn't lose another one.
And that's like this. It can happen. Pretty bad. More likely to win a Super Bowl. Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson this year. Oh, man. Just. I really thought five years ago, I even, I said many times that Patrick, Lamar and Josh were just going to trade paint, taking Super Bowl for the next 10 years. And they really have. But then they, you know, the other two haven't gotten there. Then close. Look, I think Josh Allen, because Lamar needs to come back and show me that he's healthy again. And if he's healthy again and this offense and, and remember, I've always said 1000 times a sophisticated pass of the Lamar Jackson could be people can say, what are you talking about? It's great. Like I'm talking about a sophisticated passing game around him and asking to do kind of that settled, like, highest level, you know, in pocket passing game.
If he could master that, no one could stop him. He'd be the most, he'd be the first unstoppable football player. And history. And so I'd love, I keep waiting to see the full measure of that. We've seen a lot of it, but to see all of it. So I always have to say, why Lamar, man, if it all came back together, he, no one could stop him. But I guess he's healthy. And so without that, I'd say Josh. Dan Arlovsky of the mothership said, if Matthew Stafford were to win another Super Bowl, he could see him as a top five quarterback of all time. Well, those are the kind of things that get you into a fight in the bar, right? So that's, that's what's fun. And that's why you say it. I think he's a great player. Wait, when's the last time you were in a fight? You've never, you're not in a bar. When, have you been in a fight before? Okay. It's funny you asked that because the other day, I'm coaching the girls flag again, the high school. And it came up because it's like, they're not that they're tough football players.
All the girls like, so how many fights you've been in, you know, and like, okay, I talked my way out of a lot of fights. Like, I like, do we really want to fight? I mean, honestly, we're really going to have much difference. I mean, I got out of a lot of fights. I once, someone after my buddy of mine, when I was in seventh grade, and I, you know, was really out of just pure emotion. I punched a kid and got into trouble. But that's it. It wasn't even a fight. It was like a, it's almost a cheap shot. I just pissed it out of interest. Wait, wait, wait, you're not, that's not you. I know. I, I, I looked in. I look. Life is about learning and growing, right? So stakes are made. And then the key is, you learn from your stakes, you know, and so you know, pretty much talking my way out of a fight ever since. What do you think? I will say this then. A lot of guys want to fight me on the field.
A lot of guys. Who? And unfortunately for me, I had a lot of really large guys that were, had my back and so, you know, wait, who wanted to fight you on the field and why? Well, any depend, I mean, how many frustrations, like back in the day, I was the guy that was running around and making people kind of like, there's like, we played great defense and then you go do that. So they're the frustration, especially for middle linebackers who were running the defense. It's like they knew they played good defense. And then I'm running down the field for first down or touchdown and they just, they just inflamed them. And so, yeah, it would always be, you know, but I had a lot of different behind me on that one. So no problem. If any cheap shot happened, anything, I mean, Harris, Barton, Jesse, Paul, Chipotle, Steve Wallace, these guys like, they keep an eye out, right? And if something happens where they actually go in the tunnel, okay, they don't even care what play I call. Then I listen to this go, we're, he's going down, right?
And so they just take the guy, they just take the guy out, you don't understand over him and, you know, tell him that, you know, so it was awesome. It was awesome to play quarterback for those guys. It drives me crazy when a quarterback throws an interception. And the analyst says, boy, he'd like to have that one back. Was there ever an interception, Steve, that you threw where you were like, no, I'm okay, that I, I don't want to have that one back. So that's what's amazing about playing quarterback because as you let the ball go, not the tip to balls from linemen, you don't really see common, but a lot of times when you let, when you're letting it go, you're going, oh, and then you want, they have to watch it. You're slow motion. Yeah, it's literally like a slow motion train wreck. You're like, oh, this, especially the bad ones, right? And so if you want it back, when I first started playing the great Sid Gilman was my coach,
remember that name? Yeah. I see the thought that's not a rubber band, you know, like it's like, can't take it back. And the thing that, look, look, whether you, you know, there are, there are great passes. The ones that I said, oh, that was beautiful. That maybe got tipped at the line of scrimmage or the receiver didn't react exactly the way that he should have, but you just say to yourself, wrong. That was, that was, was art. That was beauty. And I ended up having to chase that down and clean it up. Like, that's when you like, that's not right. Like it's just this, that ball was perfect. And now I'm, I'm not chasing beyond standards down the, I chased everyone down there. I cleaned up my work. You know, this fritzie knows this too. I cleaned up. I never let anybody go pick six on me. You never had a pick six? Not that I, I cleaned up my, my, my, my, my messes I cleaned up.
I, I chased out a lot of guys and I, so, there's a badge of courage. Yeah, but I don't want my starting quarterback chasing down a guy. I was, well, you don't want him throwing stupid things in there, right? Like, you know, so, but I cleaned up my mess. And, and I, when I see a quarterback start to clean up his mess and quit, you know, I, I'm curious. I feel like you're not doing your job. I chased down a, I, that's how I can prove how it's fast. Like, you know, there's no other way to prove your fast, which you can chase down the whole ball. So, actually, we got to find out how many career tackles I have. That's the real question. Let me, Ray, can you find out how many tackles he's looking right now or how many hits I have in the dog or either one. I know which. I am, I have zero tackles for you. Shut up. I had, I know there's a good game that they don't, they probably don't keep the stat then. It's why not a tackle because it's the interception, maybe figure that out with the liest sports
bureau. Oh, George Kittle that attack old last night. Who did George Kittle? Yeah. So did he get credit for it? Well, then they didn't keep the stat. That's just ridiculous. George Kittle. I have no tackles that I never threw an interception. Steve, right? George Kittle had more tackles than Miles Garrett last night. We'll say all that. That means the Rams, they're going, they're finished. Do we have pick sixes for Steve? Did you get that time? According to Chad G.P.T., only four pick sixes by Steve, which are only be 3.7% of his interceptions returned for a touchdown. That feels, that feels reasonable. Wait, you just told me you never threw a pick six. I mean, I don't remember any. I, I, I may be convenient of you, Steve. How convenient. Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, if there's three, how many did I have for two in my whole career? I think I probably have 47 in my whole career for interceptions.
What was it? How many interceptions did Steve Young have? I like that you act like you don't know the stats. You know all your stats. I, well, it might be 48. I have you at 107 interceptions, Steve. I knew that, but I just didn't. I didn't want it to come out. I was trying to, I know what you're doing. Thanks in there. 107. And you'd like to have all 107 back, wouldn't you? Well, I'll tell you about I would have saved 40 of them were beautiful. Oh, they were. So you did your job. They just did their job better. They were perfect. Okay. But that's just life. That's again, football is life. The great metaphor. Yeah, you throw a perfect ball, something got screwed up, go clean it up. And who did I blame myself because you got him? Well, in the end, if the ball was in my hands and ended up in their hands, if you don't own it,
then we're a deep trouble. So how about a round of applause for Steve Young with that being the ultimate team player? Great. Wow. That's so good. That nobody pets themself on the back, quite like Steve does. He is something else I can't. Great to talk to you. Thanks for joining us as always. Way to go. Thank you, buddy. That is Steve Young, one of the best analysts in the business. Hold a favor. Yes, Martin. Did he switch his golf stance? Is he back to like, oh, I, yeah, did you change your golf stance because of how bad you played in Tahoe? What do you, what did we say, middle of the pack? And you're like, and I like, it was, it was the best I'd played. I'd look, I understand why the people are the cable. Did I be the cable guy? Yes, yes, you did. I be partly. Yes. Did I, like, it was a huge success. But you can't brag about beating Larry the cable guy and, Barkley, you finished 55th.
When you suck at golf, you do take what you can get. But you said you were going to change and then you were going to be, oh, yeah, that's right. If I did go, I was going to go lefty. You're right. I did, my wife did mention to us me after the, after the things she was you promised that if you, it was a top half, right? It was I had been the top half. Yeah. Yeah. And you got to go lefty. So we got left, we do have lefty clubs. We're on the, we're on the project. All right. Thank you for that update. I really don't want to update this anymore. This is the last. Until next year in Tahoe. All right, boys. Man, that's Steve Young. Quite a good background. Anybody other cheap, cheap, cheap, the cheap, see comments about you? Yeah, like, you know, what, what, what if anyone else you want to remind you about anything else I screwed up in life? You heard the one thing. You talked about the. Oh, you poor thing. You poor thing. Man, you got it so tough.
I don't know how you did it. You grew up in the mean streets of Greenwich. You go to BYU. Well, you know how to, you don't have to voice the fight out of that. That's how. No, I don't. How many guys have fought out in Greenwich, Connecticut before? Not a lot. I don't think anybody had to fight out of Greenwich. Thank you, Steve. She was. That's Steve Young, all the famous.
