1:02the ads will probably not lose the rest of the season because this team is stacked and loaded and it's just impossible to put them away. And I think I think Minnesota knows that I don't think Minnesota felt like, hey, we got the lead in the third and the ads had lost after winning in the third, going into the third or whatever the case may be, I don't think for a second, you're only up one goal. You're not going to think that on any team, especially the avalanche. And while this was not a perfect game, I think this was the game I was expecting. I was expecting a back and forth, almost like you got in Dallas. It was kind of like that game just without all of the scoring in the Dallas game. This was a lot of good back and forth in this game. Some guys had really good games, other guys, not so much, but we'll get to all that individually later. But overall take on this game, like I said, with Codri making his triumphant return in Colorado. So my very first and foremost impression of this game, Colorado avalanche fans love Nazem

2:11Codri. Oh my gosh, that arena was loud when he was just announced coming back into the arena. When he got the assist, that place exploded after Alan Roach calls his name for the, for the assist phenomenal, right? And I mean, I do want to talk about the entire game and everything, but it's really cool to see a guy just get that kind of reception. And I think post game his comments were something of all the lines of, man, I love you guys, but I'm trying to do my job and think and I can't when you're this loud. So right now. And I get obviously he's saying that joking. He wants avspans to be as loud as they can be, but I just, it was so cool to see everybody that excited because you don't get that that often. You got it with Gabe. Now you get it with Codri. It's just a fun experience. And then for him to be on the score sheet was icing on the cake.

3:15Yeah. So cool. And I'm not in Chris McFarlane's head. I, you know, not in the office or anything like that. You wonder how much effort went into getting him specifically was behind going after him. Four reasons like that. Four reasons of energizing the fan base, energizing the team. You go out and get a good player, someone like on Nazum Codri's level. Sure. There'll be some excitement around that, but the fact that it was him, you do. You get a surge of excitement all around everything. And it helps. It helps. So, and, you know, he knows, Benar, he knows the system. All of that helps too. I'm not sitting here saying like that's the only reason he went to go get him. But does that, does that help? Sure. Absolutely. You can't say that. So that, yeah, he gets on the score sheet. And does Jared Betnar know the moment or not when he puts him in as the, the third shooter

4:22for the penalty shot? Because if he gets that one, that's the winner. I mean, he didn't, but I mean, you, you could have put obviously McKinnon in there who did get the winner. You could have obviously put McCarran there. You could have put Brock Nelson. Like, we could go through the roster if you wanted to. I'm not saying cadre's not one of those guys you would put in there. Usually you would, but game one back and you're putting him in that situation. Jared Betnar knew the moment. He knew the moment and good Lord was I, I've never wanted a penalty shot to go in so bad in my life because that place would have, they'd be replacing the roof on ball arena right now. That, that's what I was about to say is I'm almost glad he didn't score because the apps would have had to play their games at the Family Sports Center practice arena in front of like 60 people at home for the rest of the season would have been rough just because it would have literally exploded that would have been the most insane moment possible.

5:23On the rest of the game, though, because I know we'll get to cadre a little bit more in the second segment as well, I was a little concerned for a while that the apps were going to get go weed because they were in control for a lot of this game and if you're a Minnesota fan, he was on the on the trade rumor mill, right? He was bouncing around as a, well, we've got good goal tenders and this is a young guy that can potentially bring us back a big return and give us something that could push us over the top. You have to be feeling good about your future with that guy staying on your team. Granted, he doesn't win in the shootout this time, but good grief. I was like, I ready to strangle the TV and be like, I just need you to let one past. Stop it. Just stop. Well, in a way, I mean, he kind of did get go lead. You came out on top, but what's your, let's see, your expected goals for the avalanche

6:28in all situations are 4.65, that's on natural statric. And you got two. So you did like, yeah, I was thinking the same thing, like you're getting decent looks. I thought the apps had a pretty good offensive game in this one, but yeah, you were getting some good looks and he was making saves and I was thinking like, we've seen this before the share with him. And yeah, but you did enough. And I think that's the thing with this game for the avalanche is you did enough to get enough pucks in it. You got one more than they did. Granted, it was in the shootout. We always call that the coin flip. And at this time, you came out on the good side of the coin flip, but I think the way that the apps played in this game was just maintain, keep pressing, keep forcing the issue, keep playing your game and just let the chips fall where they may.

7:30And this time around, you were lucky enough to get a couple past him and forced this thing to overtime. It was not easy. It was not easy. You could see that it was not easy. I thought for the most part, it was a even game in terms of, like, I mean, even in shots, was it not even what was shots on net for both teams, 34 or 36 or 34 in favor of the app. So, like, you know, I just thought offensively both teams were doing pretty well. And it was just going to come down to who gets the last tip, you know, taking advantage of a mistake or something like that was going to win this game, ended up a shootout when it won it, but it was tough. It was tough. It was. And Minnesota. They're a good team. Good team. They're really young. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. They are. This was. I mean, like you said, it was very good.

8:30I think there were some good things that the apps did defensively a couple of times, but for the most part, you felt like this was an offensive game with really good goal-tending on both ends of the ice. And thank goodness Scott Wedge would had as good of a game he did because he made some really great saves through this game as well. And I don't want to take away from him either. This was, I mean, I would have liked to have seen maybe less nervousness throughout this entire game. I would love if the apps won every game 12-0 and I never had this rest about it. But on the same note, it is really fun to watch this kind of hockey. This fire wagon, back and forth, offensive chances, go, go, go, just quite enjoyable. Yeah. I'm a new one on a Sunday, makes it nice too, because then you have nice actually calm down. Yep. Enjoy it the rest of the day. Yeah. What do we got? All right, the power play, 0 for 5, not good, not good because this is one of those games where it's totally in your control and totally in your hands. If you go 2 for 5 on the power play, this is a whole different game and you're not chasing. You don't lose the lead. You don't have to come back and get a equalizer goal, I mean power plays are there for a reason. And when you're good on the power play, they make it more difficult for the other team. It's weird because no, I don't think the avalanche had poor power plays out of the 5. You did give up another short handed goal, which good lord. I mean, how does that keep happening? For the power play moments for the avalanche with the they had the puck in their own zone, I thought we're good and it just continues to be the end result continues to be that for me.

12:46And you had cadre out there, did he make a difference? I mean, like I said, I thought they looked pretty good. I'll go through the numbers in a second, but I just want to get your thoughts on this power play was just continues. I want to say continues, they were good. I think going into this game, you felt good. And now we're right back to this power play, terrible. Well, and to go over five really makes you fall right back into the this power play is terrible. I like they've been much, much better since the Olympic break. I might have to take a little bit of blame for the power play going over five today. In the power rankings video, I said the avas power play has really turned it around since the Olympic break. Followed up by a immediately going over five. So my bad, I put that in the universe, but I agree. It didn't look bad. It looked still dangerous. It just didn't complete. You couldn't finish. And I wonder does Gabe have that much of an effect because you don't have a big Gabe

13:52Landiscock down at net front presence. I don't know that he, in theory, you wouldn't think him being out would eliminate your ability to score on the power play. But what's been struggling all year? So I don't really think that he's, I mean, he's a difference maker in a lot of areas. I don't know. I don't know if that's the, yeah, I don't think that's the, the smoking gun. I mean, it could, I mean, it helps for sure. But I'm going to bring up, if you're watching over on YouTube, I'm going to share the screen here and bring up over on, on MoneyPuck, not MoneyPuck, natural statric. You don't need to know what that whole, that is, each line is an individual power play for the avalanche, right? So I'm not going to zoom in because you just have to look at the colors. Blue is good, red is bad. There is a ton of blue on there and the shapes mean something different, these ones that look like a stop sign, those are the ones, those are the shots for for the ads.

14:55So when you're first one, you know, you got one, two, three, four shots on goal in the first one. The second one, getting any shots on goal, you had some misses, you had three shots directed towards net. The third one, you had two shots directed towards net. The fourth one, you had two shots on goal and that's the one where they scored, the short handed goal. And on the fourth one, you had four shots on goal. So you had two power plays, we had four shots on goal, another one you had, two, another one you had, three that went wide. You are getting shots. That is not a day of hack stall problem, people, if the power play was a coaching problem, they would not be getting the puck into the zone, they'd be getting the puck into the zone and they're not getting shots on net, you had a plethora of shots on goal. And a ton of shots directed towards the net. That is a player thing. That is on the players.

15:56Stop this hack stall is always the problem. What is a new coach going to do? Come in and force them to put the puck in the net. Better than they can't already. It doesn't makes it like, does he, like, is he on the block? Sure. I will grant you that went when the, you know, your power play is at the level it's at, it always falls back on the coaching first. So will Dave hack stall last the season, or it'll last the season, will he last the off season? I don't know. I will have that conversation with all day, is he the singular reason why the power play can't score? No. Look at that. There's a ton of blue on there. They're doing what they want to do. The players just can't put the puck in the net. And the one guy on the team who can't put the puck in the net at all is Dave hack stall. Yeah. I mean, I don't know what I said, I can't argue with any of that rant. I do think, come the end of the season, regardless of the outcome of the season. Actually, I take it back.

16:57If the apps win at all, hack stall probably is safe because winning covers up problems. It just always has and it always will. If they do not win everything, they do not make it all the way to the top of the mountain, I think hack stall might be out. And whether it's his fault or not, it's hard to look at special teams this year and not feel wet down by what they should be. And the TNT broadcast brought this up as well. They're like, in three on three hockey, the apps have been weirdly not as good as you would expect. And then immediately goes, and that's exactly like their power play, which you would expect to be the best in the league because of how talented this team is. And he's right. He's entirely correct. So yeah, it's really hard. I think it's easy to say that now, like if the apps don't go all the way, yeah, he could

17:59be on the chopping block. But I think we have to, if somehow, some miraculous thing happens, and the power play is not the reason the avalanche are eliminated from the playoffs, wherever they do get eliminated, if they do get eliminated. If the power play suddenly turns it on in the playoffs, and you can't turn your attention to him and be like, you're like they did last year, maybe he saw it, so I, but I get what you're saying, like the point is taken. If it continues into the playoffs, and you can point to it, just the, just from the sheer numbers, he could be. He could be. We'll see where it goes. But at least for this game, at least for this game, all of those numbers just, just point to me, scream, that's on the players for this game. Anyway, I don't disagree. It does feel like, and this is where too, though, I do want to give a little bit of credit to Minnesota, because wallstep played well.

19:01I mean, obviously he stopped all of those shots and you went through. There was a good amount of shots between those five power plays. There was also a good amount of misses or deflections or solid defensive play. And you don't score a shorthanded goal just because one team sucks, like you also have to be playing good yourself, Minnesota did that, not that I like to give the wild credit, but you kind of have to in this point as well. That being said, stop allowing shorthanded goals. Just stop it. Yeah. I know. And nothing else you fix, fix that. Just stop that, please. Please. Those are just momentum crushers. They are. Yeah. And the one, you're talking about wallstep making saves, how about the one that he made on Nature's that was on the power play? Like, how? That was just insane. It was just insane. It's not fair. Like, they only showed the one replay and I rewound it to see it because like, he's stretching

20:01and I'm like, that had to go in that had to go in and had to hit his pad, while his pad is in the net. And it didn't, it didn't like, it's stuff like that that you just say, I don't know what else this team can do. They're just so snake, but for the clarity of the season on the power play, it is bizarre. It's bizarre. So other players that you thought kind of shipped in here today, like we talked about Coddry, you know, he had the really beautiful pass. Well, and I actually want to talk about that for just a second, too, because that felt like a, the chemistry literally never left between him and McKinnon. It was a, I know where you're going to be and the puck will be exactly where it needs to be for you to fire that home. You couldn't have asked for a better play than that. Also, Quinn Hughes, thank you for the pass directly to Coddry to set that up. Love that. Yeah. But no, I just, it's so cool to see him not only get on the score sheet, but do it in

21:08such a smooth and just pretty way. So I like that. Yeah. Like they just picked up right where they left off type of thing. Other players, too. I love the fact that, um, Waw and Kulak scored, um, same for those you to combine to score a goal. When I saw him take that shot, I didn't even see Waw get the tip at first. I was like, no, my gosh, Kulak just, because I've been talking about him to all sorts of people like, I love that we've barely brought him up. We don't have to talk about him that much because he's just doing his job and then he goes out there and rips a great shot. And I'm like, cool, we get to talk about him and for a good reason. And so I love that to have the guys that you just brought on, make a difference, make an impact in a division rivalry game, then you do really want the two points in order to keep your first place in the central, love it, love seeing those guys contribute all three of them.

22:09Absolutely. Um, those are guys that I like. And then, you know, we, we mentioned Wedgewood, but just kind of want to give him a little bit more shine because yeah, great, great game for him. Um, interesting that he was the starter after Blackwood was pulled, you know, I can go either way when a guy is pulled of you throw him right back out there to get his confidence back up. Um, and the, well, the guy that came in and kept the game where it was deserves the next one too. So I can, I can be persuaded on either side of that argument, um, I'm just going off a Jared Bed and ours comments that he made last week of, you know, we're going to ride Blackwood, just get ready for the playoffs. I, I thought because he got pulled, he was going to throw him back out there, uh, but he didn't. Okay. That's fine too. And Wedgewood, once again, up for the task, you're getting a lot of, uh, fan chatter of like, he's got to be our number one.

23:11It's tough to argue that, but it's not like, like Blackwood, it should a bad game. Guys have bad games and he's been, he's been excellent this year overall, uh, give the guy a bad game. I don't want that against Dallas and not, not it's trying to excuse it. You want him to play better, especially against the team like Dallas, uh, but I don't know. I think it's an interesting dilemma for the F's. It is. I don't think I'm there yet to say Wedgewood is the clear number one over Blackwood, um, Wedgewood though does just keep making a strong case for himself every time he gets put out there. He makes a strong case for himself to be the number one gold tender. Blackwood, I still think probably is your guy for now. Um, and the other thing I can say is, yeah, he did have a bad game. Yeah, it's frustrating that it was against the stars. You're still able to come back and win that game because your team's so talented. And remember, really, really good gold tenders can have bad games. Um, in particular, it netted you two times Stanley Cup with the Avalanche champion,

24:15champions, uh, Patrick, if he doesn't have a bad game and get, yeah. And get left out to dry, um, he's not here in Colorado. You don't have that same situation. So give the guy, give the guy a break, let him have a bad game, um, especially since we won. But, right. Yeah. Wedgewood, he, Scott's making it hard to drive you against him really does want though. And that's, that's what his job is to do is to make it difficult to say you have to sit behind someone else and he's doing it. Good point. Good point. So, um, all right, let's get our last break in. 26:18All right, let's check in with some of our subtext crew. We got Adam here felt like the ads were a little unsink today, especially on the power play. Well, stat kept coming or kept them in the game, but I hate seeing the ads give up another short handed goal. They really need to get that figured out. I'm happy they could dig deep and when get the window, shout out to Nick Waffer, the game time goal in the third is unsink the word that you would use to because I thought they were I wouldn't I think it wouldn't call it unsinked as much as Minnesota played some like pretty good opposition for you, especially because through this season, I've seen plenty of games where the avalanche have felt discombobulated or out of sync or any of those things. And I don't know that this one quite gives me that by I there were moments, yeah, yeah,

27:21yeah, no, there were moments, absolutely, but again, like I think that was just some some bad place. I saw Brent Burns make some plays where you're just like, bro, who are you throwing that to? Like a simple cross the ice pass that just goes out of the zone. And now you have to cycle back and like, you know, he had a rough game, Brent Burns. He did. So you had moments like that. But overall, I thought I thought it was an enjoyable game and I don't know. I think I know he's going with saying unsinked, but well, like I said, and I don't fault fans for thinking this way, but because it's a way that I used to think a lot, but something I really try to keep in mind all the time. And we've said it before, there are two teams out there just because something didn't go your way. It doesn't mean it's all because you did anything wrong. The other team could in fact be doing something right. So it's it's hard again, not trying to like tell you you're wrong on that opinion.

28:23But I just I didn't see that as the same way. Not always self-inflicted. It's the other team is causing it could be talented. Yeah, they're professionals, believe it or not. Not the judge Napolitano, cadre already with a point, it's chemistry with Nate picked off right where it left off. Side from the one goal they generated a few more chances even in overtime. Powerplay looked like it was moving out okay, but I think they just got stuck doing the same thing over and over. I just wouldn't give them anything in the slot. Sound check for not the judge Napolitano is imagine dragons believer for the cup run. So okay, I like it. Believe it because of the cup run. I like it. Imagine Jack, dragons fan or no. I mean, not particularly early stuff was okay and like, I don't know like it's not what I go and seek out. But I don't, I think the Imagine Avs honestly kind of turned me off of Imagine Dragons.

29:26If I'm being completely honest, that whole video series they did that one sort of, yeah, I don't know. I think it's because that was around 48 point season. And so I just associated with on happiness and imagination totally okay with that. We got bears as pretty sure I just lost three years of my life. Games are starting to get that playoff vibe need to figure out that power play or find a way to decline the penalties like the NFL. Great seeing all the new guys contribute. Sound check aim on Amaranth. Ride for vengeance, okay, back for last week's loss and Mac closing it out after the penalty. I like it. All right. So the Mac penalty also I do and not to not the judge brought up over time. We didn't really touch on that at all. We've said all season the Avs have not looked great in overtime. They looked good in this overtime until that penalty which I, I put on social media.

30:29Not so respectfully disagree with. Usually I would put, you know, like I respectfully disagree with the referees. That one I'd not as respectfully disagreed with. I didn't like that call. But the Avs dominated I thought at three on three for most of that overtime, which was nice to see it's really a strong change of pace. I saw a lot of unhappy wild fans online going the blame the refs route in this loss for them. I mean, the Avs had five power plays, I'm going to say it had four. It's not like you had one and the Avs had five. So they seem like the refs were obviously called nine penalties. So they're calling penalties, but they were calling like the, I have to call that penalty and letting the, in different ones, maybe yes, maybe no go. And when you have nine penalties that were all, was there any where I was like, what

31:34are they calm trying to think if so I think that's why I don't like the one against McKinnon in overtime. And it's not even a situational thing. Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm most of the game they let the physicality go. And it looked to me like, I think it was Hartman, right, kind of pick McKinnon is what it looks like. And McKinnon just sort of skates through him. He's already on that path. And then Hartman drops like he is an absolute down, so I wasn't a huge fan of that one. But otherwise, I agree. I don't think they were, I don't think the refs were on fair. I just didn't like that particular call. I can see that. Yep. Devon says, power play still moving like a pillowcase filled with oatmeal and doorknobs. But nods looks amazing. The wedge wall is still wedge walling. And the shootout doesn't seem so scary right now. I gave my thoughts on the power play. I disagree with what Devon is saying about it, but I think that's just frustration coming

32:35through from the fan base when you go over five, which I can totally understand. But I do agree with him on the shootout where you kind of dreaded going into it, at least these last two games, you feel pretty good about it. You do a pillowcase full of oatmeal and doorknobs is quite the description there. That's, that's going to be one that's going to stick with me for a little while. So I'm not really asleep tonight because that's, that might haunt me. That's a weird one. No, I agree. I don't think it looked as bad as people are probably feeling like it looked. But I also will not fault a single abspan for saying it looks bad because over five with a shorthanded allowed is not good. Yeah, I'll totally understand that. Yep. And Matt says wild game pun intended good did a good job at limiting five and five chances, but special teams is killing us score one power play goal. It never goes to OT. And if we don't give up the shorty, it never goes to OT.

33:36So he's right. True. He is right. Um, yeah, I thought five on five. This was a pretty, where is it over on, uh, got over here on natural stat trick. I think on five on five, uh, your coursey four for the avalanche is 48. Your course against is 50. Yep. Almost 50, 50, right. So pretty even for your shots directed towards the net. So, um, let's see. We'll get to one more here. Heather says grateful our shootout is looking better. It was a lost cause before shootouts. The shoe skins shootout shot is dirty. Um, I love it now, uh, to bring up that power play, uh, and the sound check for Heather is M&M. Guess who's back. Back again. Nice. Cadres back. Telephone. So. Love that one. I don't know. So, um, yeah, the, the nuke, uh, shootout shots the last couple of games.

34:38Those are zebras. It's my friend. Wow. Good. Look at that. This one was solid because that was in tight. That was in tight in the paint on wall stat and he just went from right to left right in front of him. Yep. Uh, uh, that, that was a dangerous play because and if that's not perfect, that can, that just bumps up against wall stats pad is stick anything, but he pulled that from right to left and beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Can't say much more than that, man. That's a good one. That is a good one. I am going to focus on like post-trade deadline, yeah, Codre is the big one, but you got wide and cool act. So kind of like your new guys that came in and now here we go, like deadline is over. We got our team looking forward to the end of the road with the regular season away we go. We got all our new guys. So I'm going with Marilyn Manson and song is this is the new stuff, but that's stuff for a family show here, so yeah, don't play that one with the kids in the car.

36:43So yeah, because this is the new stuff, so we got our new guys. I want to throw out I almost went, I almost went that exact same route.
