It's April 21st. I'm Corey with The Story. This is Anchorage News Today, driven by AI. Eight months ago, a canine woman named Aryan Fabrizio Colton had her world flipped during a routine morning run near her home in Alaska. On August 26, 2025, a bear attacked her right after she started her watch, leaving her with severe injuries including damage. To her spine, hip, back broken ribs, road rash, a traumatic brain injury, and a brain bleed. She spent a full month in the hospital in Anchorage right after the attack, and her recovery has been a grind ever since. Colton dealt with vision loss in her left eye and needed reconstruction on her orbital bone, but the medical team has peace things back together. Pretty well so far? The whole ordeal hit her family hard too. Shaking up their mental health and making simple walks outside feels scary. Everyone's been leaning on each other through therapy sessions and constant doctor visits, pushing past the fear to reclaim the outdoors they love.

She's had two major surgeries already, including time at the Mayo Clinic, with a third one coming up in just a few weeks. On top of that, occupational therapy keeps her moving forward, turning pain into progress one step at a time. Now Colton's channeling that fight into her Instagram page, Aryan's 101st Yard, where she shares her survival story and family motto of, Going the Extra Yard. It's inspiring folks to keep battling through their own tough spots.
