Authorities uncovered what had been described as numerous anti-Trump social media posts linked to the suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old tutor and amateur video game developer from California. The suspect was taken into custody at the dinner on Saturday night. Allen legally owned a semi-automatic pistol and a shotgun. He is believed to have traveled by train from California to Chicago and then onto Washington, where he checked himself in at a guest at the hotel where the garlic dinner was held. Cole Thomas Allen is believed to have acted alone and is set to face criminal charges today. Meanwhile, President Trump's Justice Department is using the shooting to try to pressure preservationists to drop their lawsuit over his planned $400 million ballroom at the White House.
