I'm Ben Thomas with the NAP News Minute. Yemen's Houthi rebels carried out a series of attacks against Saudi Arabia today, wounding more than 70 people and igniting fires at oil facilities. Fay Ebu al-Gassam has more. The attacks come hours after the Iranian-backed rebels blamed Saudi Arabia for an airstrike that hit a prison in northern Yemen, killing at least seven people. The fighting threatens to further destabilize the Middle East and shake the global economy after nearly three years of war. Saudi Arabia's oil industry is already under strain from the closure of the strait of Hormuz, where one-fifth of the world's oil move before the U.S. Iran War. Saudi Arabia has had to rely on the Red Sea and the Babel-Mandib strait, a waterway off the Arabian Peninsula. But continuous attacks from the Houthis now jeopardize that route, as well. Tensions have been rising over the last few months between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen, shattering of four-year truths in the country's civil war. A.P.'s Fay Ebu al-Gassam reporting from Cairo and Abund Thomas.
